Embossing Two Ways with Dragonfly Dreams
When I had a hostess ask me this month to use Dragonfly Dreams for one of her event cards, I smiled and said “of course!” Then I did my best Winnie the Pooh impression and sat at my craft table poking my head and saying “think, think, think”. I had played a little with this set, but I hadn’t actually completed a full card yet. But, as I started thinking about what other supplies I had lying around my desk I wanted to play with (the Sale-a-Bration Glimmer Paper assortment and the Hexagons Dynamic Embossing folder), some ideas started coming together. In the end, what was left on my table was this finished card and a great opportunity to mix embossing styles and lots of textures all in one card!

Beautiful Botanicals For You–It’s Not Just Flowers!

Fun with Color – Botanicals For You Card
This was one of the cards we did in Stamp Club this month
This was a fun card to pull together. I used a bunch of my favorite products… but even more fun was playing with color! I used the 2015-2017 In Colors to pull together my card. The big letters on the Just for You is perfect for coloring with your markers. So I used Mint Macaron, Watermelon Wonder, and Delightful Dijon as my focus colors here. Don’t they look awesome together?
Then I used the fun follow on sentiment and created a banner to go along the bottom of the card… because, really, people need to hear they are awesome more often don’t you think?
I stamped the flower in Watermelon Wonder and cut it out and it is hard to see, but used some of the Gold Wink of Stella in the middle for a little bit of shine and color.
And what are we thinking of the Brick Wall embossing folder as the background? I used it for texture along the back of the card… I kind of like it in Mint! Then add a hint of the Watermelon Wonder satin ribbon… seriously the BEST ribbon in the Occasions Catalog!
And don’t forget the finishing touch of the Mint Macaron/Black Baker’s Twine from the combo pack! Tie it in the crease of your card for the just right final touch!
Keep it Simple – Emboss Resist Botanicals For You
Now, if you want to keep it really simple, I have one more option for you…. this sweet and simple emboss resist card.
All you have to do is stamp your sentiment in Versamark and then heat emboss with white embossing powder.
Sponge your favorite color over the top with the yellow Stampin’ Sponges and and the color won’t stick to your words but will make them really POP!
Layer on coordinating cardstock and then pop up on Stampin’ Dimensionals over your favorite ribbon and/or twine… love that gold baker’s twine! And you are done!

Sale-a-Bration Countdown–6 days left!–a bit of Sweetness with Honeycomb Happiness
The countdown is on! We only have 6 days left of Sale-a-Bration, and I’d hate for you to miss out. Today I’m sharing some ideas from one of my FAVORITE options from Sale-a-Bration, the Honeycomb Happiness stamp set. The funny thing is, you actually get a few different images from the set, but I’ve pretty much only used the Chick from the set… as you’ll be able to see from my multiple samples below, ha ha! So, just so you know everything that is in the set, here is what it looks like:
NOTE – they are RUNNING LOW on the clearmount version of this stamp, so you might want to grab yours sooner rather than later! Since they are not making more at this point!
But let me share a new-to-the-blog card with another idea for this set. This was a card from my new Terrific Techniques series. Last month we did Heat Embossing and this was one of the cards everyone made practicing the basics!
The other thing about this card that is cool, is that it is an example of how AWESOME the Project Life Grid Cards are. But this isn’t a Project Life album page you say… that is right! The cool thing is that the grid cards are a really economical way to have precut 3”x4” layers for your cards. One side has a light grid pattern and the other side is plain white. It isn’t as glossy as Whisper White cardstock, but when you are doing things like simple stamping or in this case, heat embossing, it works great! And you get 50 cards for only $3.50. Which is a steal of a deal!
In this card, you ink the chick with VersaMark and stamp onto the grid card and then cover with Black embossing powder. Heat with your heat gun to set and then you can color to your hearts content with your Aqua Painter!
Then we showed how great heat embossing looks on dark colored cardstock.
- Rub the paper lightly with an Embossing Buddy (if you press hard, the white powder will show up on the paper)
- Ink your stamp with VersaMark ink and stamp on the dark paper (this was Blackberry Bliss, one of the retiring In Colors)
- Generously coat with light colored embossing powder like this White embossing powder
- Tap off the excess and then heat with your Heat Gun
- Only heat until the powder becomes shiny. If any part is not shiny, you haven’t melted the powder enough.
- TIP – if you are using metallic embossing powders, make sure to stop heating as soon as it becomes shiny! Overheating will cause the metallic finish to dull and it will look tarnished instead.
Sponge the edges and layer with some of the Pretty Petals designer paper. Add some of the White Perfect Accents (currently on the Weekly Deals!) and you have an oh so cute card!

Fast and Fun Birthday Card with Birthday Blooms!
Sometimes I need a card, but my brain is just struggling when I try to figure what exactly to make for that card. Anyone else know that feeling? Like, you have your supplies in front of you and you just stare at them, willing them to start arranging themselves into some awesome design… but sadly, they just lay there looking back at you. Well, the other day I was having that same problem when I suddenly remembered the amazing Emboss Resist technique and had a flash of inspiration! Check out this cute card that is so easy to do with this technique:
Jennifer’s Project Tips:
- Emboss Resist is an easy WOW for your cards! Here is how it works:
  1. Find your favorite line art image… this works great with lace, doily, and outline flower images like this one from Birthday Blooms… the important thing is that there are skinny lines with lots of non-inked space in between.
  2. Rub the surface of your cardstock with an Embossing Buddy (this prevents static or other dust from causing stray embossing powder to get stuck later)
  3. Ink your stamp with Versamark ink and stamp your image
  4. Cover with clear or white embossing powder and heat set
  5. Use a wedge cut from one of the yellow Stampin’ Sponges and sponge ink over your embossed image
  6. Use a kleenex or paper towel to rub over the top of your embossed image to remove any excess ink
- For best results, use one of the yellow sponges – I find that the yellow sponges are more poreous and so tend to do a better job lightly applying ink and keeping it fairly smooth instead of having a stark circle of ink from a sponge dauber or makeup sponge. Grab one and cut it up into 6-8 wedges and you can play with lots of colors.
- Experiment with lots of colors! I was making a bunch, and so I grabbed a bunch of left over cardbases (when I cut a paper in half for a card base, I keep the extra half in a plastic bag to use later) and then made the same stamped/embossed image and just changed up the ink color to match cardstock!
- Keep the rest of the card simple to let your embossed image really POP! I used just a few rhinestones and stamped my sentiment in Tip Top Taupe ink so that I could have the focus be on my embossed image.

Christmas Card Joy with Peaceful Pines
I really did have grand plans this year to get all of my Christmas cards out early. After years of being terrible about NOT sending out cards at all, last year I sent out around 70 holiday cards and it felt great to be putting a little cheer out through the mail. So, I was all gung ho that I was going to be all organized this year and get them in the mail at the beginning of December.
But then suddenly, I turned around and here it is December 16th and they have yet to hit the post office! Anyone with me? How many times do we have grand plans but one reason or another keeps us from making it happen? Well, I’m here to say, it is never too late! In this case, there is still time to make and send Christmas cards (or send the cards you have!) Today’s share is a simple card idea that you can pull together quickly for those people who need some holiday cheer from you.
I actually made this card as a swap for the November OnStage Local regional event. I decided the day that we were leaving that I wanted to make swaps after all and so I pulled these together. They are clean and simple, and easy to pull together!
Tips for making this card:
- Keep it simple and cost effective by choosing ONE color plus white – I picked Always Artichoke because I had an almost full pack on my desk and thought the muted color would be good for this design. Use that color for your card base and for your smallest layer. Then just use Whisper White cardstock as your matting layer to create a nice border around your stamped images.
- Use heat embossing for an easy-to-create WOW – I kept in the deep green theme by stamping a tree and my sentiment in Mossy Meadow ink, but added layers and dimension by stamping one tree in Versamark ink and then covering it in White embossing powder. Heat set for a snowy tree that really catches your eye.
- Make your embossed images more interesting with sponging – I sponged over my white embossed tree with Always Artichoke ink to give the tree some depth. This is a great technique to use on any project you are heat embossing though. Just match the ink color with the color of the underlying cardstock for a rich addition to your image. You can also make your central cardstock have more dimension with the same trick only by sponging the edges of the cardstock with the same color ink.
- Try out different size banners! – I had left over Always Artichoke cardstock strips after cutting for the smaller piece on this card. So I decided to use them by cutting them in half and stamping my sentiment (the Joy from the Your Presents stamp set). I normally do longer and skinnier banners, but this smaller size was just right for this card.
- Make banners more easily with the Banner Triple Punch – The best part about adding banners is that I don’t have to try hard to make the ends look even and nice thanks to the Banner Triple Punch (I still want to call it the triple banner punch!) Even if your piece is small, you can slide it in to this punch and with a press, you have perfect banner ends! Easy Peasy!
So, if you still have Christmas cards to make, you still have time!

A Clean and Simple Embossed Happy Hello with Blended Bloom
Sometimes I get all caught up in the fun of playing with all my punches, ribbons, and accessories, that I forget to go back to the basics…. ink, stamps, and paper! But I shared this card with my Stamp Club recently and loved the elegance of it and the simplicity.
Tips for making this card:
- Pick your favorite color and feature it on your card and then stick to simple neutrals to break it up. In this case, I just used Rich Razzleberry and Whisper White… and it turns out, that is all the color you need!
- Keep it from being too flat by spicing it up with two of my favorite tricks: Heat Embossing and Sponging!
- I started by heat embossing the Blended Bloom flower in the lower left corner of my Rich Razzleberry cardstock. To do this:
  – Lightly wipe over the area with the Embossing Buddy (it is a little cloth pouch with powder inside), this de-statics the paper and makes sure the embossing powder only sticks to the stamped lines and doesn’t give you speckles in other places!
  – Stamp your image using Versamark Ink (the clear watermarking ink)
  – Generously dump embossing powder over the stamped image to make sure all the ink is covered in powder.
  – Tap off any excess powder onto a piece of computer paper or the grid paper mats are perfect for this! And then dump the excess powder back into the container.
  – Use the heat tool to blow hot air over the embossing powder to melt it into the shiny awesome raised image that you want!
- Once you have your embossed flower, tap a sponge dauber into Rich Razzleberry ink and then swirl it over the center of your flower to get the darker middle. Easy as that!
- Sponge all the way around the edges of the stamped card for a darker edge.
- Do the same thing with the sentiment by heat embossing, I used the “A Happy Hello” from the Tin of Cards stamp set (LOVE IT!) and added a bit of the trim from the same stamp set in Rich Razzleberry ink.
- Then just adhere your layers and you are done!

Washed Watercoloring for a You’ve Got This card
Do you ever experiment with a card or a technique and when you are done you think… WOW! That turned out better than I expected? Aren’t those the fun surprises? Well, that happened to me with this card. I just loved how the flower turned out for it!
A combination of heat embossing and watercoloring came together to make a pretty and delicate looking flower. I can’t wait to try it with other colors and images… can’t you just imagine?
Tips for making this card:
- Got bold patterns of paper, or just paper that you aren’t sure what to do with it? I had that with a couple patterns from the Bohemian designer paper pack (which has grown on me a TON, since I started using it!) and so I decided to make them background pieces. They stand up great as a backdrop for the main element of your card.
- Layer in some ribbon for another way to break up your background. This Jute Ribbon is somewhat stiff, so it makes a great layer to peek out from behind your central image. Plus the horizontal lines go great with the crosshatch stamped image too!
- Don’t be afraid to mix your greens – I used Cucumber Crush for my card base and the stem of the flower, but then used Old Olive for the stamped background using the crosshatch stamp that is part of the You’ve Got This stamp set.
- For the flower, you can get a really delicate look by mixing heat embossing and watercoloring. Here is how:
  1. Stamp your flower image onto watercolor paper using versamark ink
  2. Cover with white embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool
  3. Use an aqua painter brush to pick up ink from the inside of the lid of your ink pad, and then paint onto your embossed image
  4. Wipe off any excess ink that got onto the embossed lines of the flowerNOTE – the ink won’t stick to the embossed lines so you can just brush over them when coloring your image and not have to worry about being super precise! Yay!
- Let your flower really stand on it’s own by cutting it out by hand and then adhering to your card front using Stampin’ Dimensional foam dots.
This is an easy technique and so beautiful when you are done so I encourage you to give it a try!

You’ve Got This Lace & Vintage Embossed Flower
As soon as I started seeing samples for this stamp set – You’ve Got This – I knew I needed it! And as I’ve been working hard to finish out the Stampin’ Up year and get those last few points I need to earn the amazing trip of a lifetime from Stampin’ Up… I decided today I needed this sentiment.
I’m pretty sure I found this or a similar card online and was totally inspired but now I can’t find the inspiration, but I just loved playing with the new ribbon, embossing, and the pulling out the Vintage buttons that I had totally forgotten about!
Tips for making this card:
- Don’t always feel you have to color in your flowers – try embossing on colored cardstock instead! Yes, I had to hand cut out the flower head, but isn’t it pretty? I stamped with Versamark onto Watermelon Wonder cardstock and cover with white embossing powder and heat set. Pretty huh?
- Pop the flower head up for extra dimension! I stamped my flower onto the card front with Cucumber Crush ink and just used that to tell where to place my cut out flower head.
- Layer your In Color dotted lace trim over Whisper White paper to allow the pretty pattern to show through!
- Tie some linen thread through one of the Vintage Buttons and tie in a bow for the perfect extra accent.
Try this card out with any of the new In Colors for a bunch of different looks all with the same basic design! Mint Macaron and Delightful Dijon would both be awesome versions as well!

Sharing Thanksgiving Memories with the Happiness Is Project Life Kit
Yesterday was National Scrapbooking Day and while I normally like to celebrate by actually trying to catch up on some scrapbooking pages, this year I opted for some family time as my husband and I had both returned from business trips on Friday. The kids had been with Grandma and so it was our turn to hang out and have fun with them.
But I did have the honor of getting to create a couple layouts using the Happiness Is kit for Stampin’ Up’s National Scrapbooking Day blog post and they were posted for you to see this weekend! I’ll admit I got a little school girl excited when I saw my name in print on their blog. Though, I discovered that the photos they shared were TINY! So, since one of the coolest things about Project Life is how easy it is to add a little pizzazz to your quick and easy pages, I thought I’d share some up close photos of the details of my layout with you today.
Bear with me, I’m still trying to figure out the best way to photograph my layouts. But the thing I love about Project Life is how easy it can be to put together layouts. I grab a card kit & the matching accessory kit (seriously, this is the BEST THING EVER!) and lay them out on my table and just go.
1. Pick a few photos you love
2. Print them out wherever is most convenient for you
3. Slide them into pocket pages (look! almost done!)
4. Pick a Project Life card kit & matching Accessory pack
5. Grab some matching cards and write what is happening in the pictures – add embellishments if desired
6. Put in your album and you are done!
Here are a few of my favorite things about this layout:
- Layer 3×4 cards onto 4×6 cards with Washi Tape (it’s included in your accessory pack!) for a quick title card. I just had to add the year numbers (also in the accessory pack) and write in the dates!
- Don’t feel like every card has to have writing on it! Sometimes just a couple embellishments or even just the way it is printed is perfect.
- Bust out your “fancy” techniques like layering vellum over a 3×4 card and heat embossing the sentiment (in this case the “love” from the So You stamp set)
- Don’t forget you can stamp on your photos too! It was hard to photograph, but I stamped the sun image on the bottom photo with the Metallic Gold ink and it was the perfect touch!
- The Happiness Is kit also comes with these little wood accents that are laser etched with images and words.
A fun little bonus for your layout… especially with that adorable face, am I right?
- I also liked taking multiple stamps and putting them on my clear block at the same time – like these hearts (also from the So You stamp set). They are two separate stamps but I wanted to use them together. Position on your card, press onto the block, and then ink and stamp!
So this layout had a lot of little touches and accents, but it took me way less time than a traditional scrapbook layout and still has all the personal & handmade touches.

Get those photos out where everyone can enjoy them and you don’t need a craft room of supplies to do it! It’s fun, it’s easy, and your family will love it!

A Kinda Eclectic Convention Display Board Sample
How about another quick share using the oh so pretty Kinda Eclectic stamp set? This was another card I created for Convention last year and I realized I hadn’t shared it yet.
It was one of those “a little bit of this and that” cards and so there were lots of fun little touches.
Tips for this card:
- Stamp the sunburst image in Crumb Cake onto a piece of scrap paper. Then I heat embossed the image with clear embossing powder by inking up the stamp again with Versamark and stamping on top of the Crumb Cake image. After heat embossing you can sponge over the embossed lines with So Saffron ink to make a soft sun background.
- Use the Starburst Framelits to cut out your sun image for a different textured edge
  (Save 25% off these framelits through Monday 1/19 with the weekly deals!)
- Use the Bitty Butterfly Punch and the Elegant Butterfly Punch to create your layered butterflies.
- Create your own background by using the rows of dots stamp from the Kinda Eclectic stamp set and off set each row. I used different colors of inks to further mix it up!

Christmas Card Kit including a Festival of Trees Christmas Card in Blue
See, I told you I’d be back with more projects to share! Today’s card is one that I put together for a Christmas Card stamp-a-stack last month. We were making a bunch of Christmas cards and I had seen this one on Pinterest and thought it was so pretty. It was created by Amy O’Neill and I had to make a few tweaks to get it to fit with the supplies I had but I think it turned out rather cute!
One thing that is a bit hard to see from the first picture is that I made the silver garland on the tree especially shiny thanks to silver embossing powder. Awww… once again, totally forgetting about heat embossing until I do it and am reminded how fabulous it looks on a project!
You can also see that pretty All is Calm designer paper and the coordinating Lost Lagoon ribbon – both from the Holiday Catalog. Don’t forget, that catalog is only good for another couple weeks and than most of the items (including this paper and ribbon) will no longer be available!

Gratitude Month Week 2 FREE Tutorial – Patriotic Thank You Card
As promised, though a little late, I shared this tutorial with my newsletter mailing list earlier this week (if you aren’t on the list you can sign up here). But I also wanted to make sure to post it on my blog as well! This was my card for Veteran’s Day and so it is a thank you card with a patriotic touch.
November Gratitude Month – Week 2 PDF Tutorial – Patriotic Thank You Card
Tips for this card:
- Emboss the three main stars from Be the Star stamp set onto your favorite colored cardstock and heat set with white embossing powder for maximum punch.
- Each star can be exactly die cut using the coordinating Stars framelits and did you notice how well they nestle together?
- Take the banner shape from the For All Things stamp set and stamp in Crumb Cake ink and cut out. Then cut it in half to create two banners for your card. Staple together with the mini stapler from Stampin’ Up and you have a cute accent for the top of your card.
  Personally, I like stapling twice for decoration.
- Add a button and some ribbon, but keep it neutral so your stars can take center stage.
And most importantly, make sure to give this card to someone who means so much to you!
