  • Sending off Hip Notes & I Like You with a Sparkly Sweet Thank You Card

It’s that time of the year where I need to start saying good bye to some wonderful Stampin’ Up stamps and products as we count down to the new catalog change over in June.  So over here on the blog I’m going to start sending off many of my retiring products by featuring some of my favorite projects using them (and next week. you’ll start seeing some of the new Sneak Peek stuff popping in as well!  That UPS man can’t get here fast enough!)  But here is my first card share for you –

    Featured Retiring Products:

Get them before they are gone at the end of the month!

    Tips for this project:

    • The Striped Scallop Thinlit makes a beautiful background, especially when you use it to die cut glimmer paper – like this Dazzling Diamonds glimmer paper.
    • Make it easy and NOT MESSY to glue your scalloped background by using the 2-Way Glue pen to draw glue on the backside of the thin cut image.  I LOVE using this glue for all of my thin cut dies like words or butterflies!
    • The I Like You stamp set is one of those full of images that is perfect for coloring!  I colored this using Blendabilities, but you could also color with your Aqua Pen or your Blender Pens for similar pretty effects.
Tip – This stamp set is a hostess exclusive set – which means you need to either host a party (online or in person) or place a personal order of $150 or more.  There is still time to earn this for free, so let me know how I can help!  Plus, hostess benefits are changing with the new catalog in June so consider doing your order now and get a little bit more for your $150 order!
    • Break up your background with a strip of white cardstock stamped with your sentiment, like this Thanks from the Hip Notes stamp set.

Have fun using your stamps and picking one to color or highlight with a pop of color!

I’ll be back with more fond farewells and starting next week some fun new goodies to share!

Need a new catalog?  Let me know!  If you’ve placed $50 in orders with me in the last 6 months, yours will be on your way starting late next week.  If you haven’t ordered, you can do so in my online store

Or fill out my form here – New Catalog Request Form – and after I hand out catalogs to customers and Stamp Club members, I’ll start sending them out based on the request list!

  • Patriotic card, Thank you card, or just a fun Star framelit card? You decide!

Tell me I’m not the only person who stamps images or cuts paper thinking it will be PERFECT for my project I’m working on, only to put it down on my paper and realize that it doesn’t fit AT ALL!  Then when I realize they don’t work for my project, I have a hard time just throwing them in the recycle bin because I know they are perfectly good elements for another card or project.  So, I collect them in a small box to use for later.

Well, I periodically decide it is time to just start creating using my scraps because otherwise they take over my craft table, that box, and everywhere else in my craft room!  So, today I thought I’d share a card I created using only scraps from my pile.  I think the only thing I cut fresh was the Baked Brown Sugar twine!

I think the stars were originally from an idea I had for a patriotic card.  I used the Be the Star stamp set and the Star Framelits (which are on the weekly deals this week – btw!)  So I just layered them using some dimensionals and then added some of the thick baker’s twine in Baked Brown Sugar and my main element was ready to go!

Then I just used a scrap piece of patterned paper from the Trim the Tree designer paper stack (still on the Clearance Rack for a great deal!) and a stamped sentiment from the Sale-a-Bration set Simply Wonderful.

So you never know when you will be able to mix elements for many times of the year to get a great anytime card!

    Just a few reminders:

Oh, and don’t forget the new weekly deals!

  • Customer Thank You Cards with my New Favorite Color Combo!

This weekend I needed to make some more thank you cards for Stampin’ Up orders this month.  I really appreciate all my customers and stamping friends who support me and my business, and so I like to send them a card they can use themselves (so if you get a card from me and wonder why I wrote my note to you on a post-it note, now you know!)

I was looking around for inspiration and came across this card by Glenda Calkins and I just LOVED the color combination and knew I had to make my own!  So, here is what I am sending out to anyone who orders from me this month!

    Tips for making this card:

    • First up, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this color combination.  If you haven’t tried it already, you should.  Especially since we only have a couple months left with the fabulous Coastal Cabana!

      image
    • Use the Crazy About You bundle (save 15% off too when you get the stamp set and thinlit at the same time!) to use this same card design for almost any sentiment you want!  Birthday, thank you, Mother’s Day, Easter, you name it!  The fun combo of the die cut word with the stamped sentiment keeps it interesting.
    • When cutting out your word with the thinlit die, it will come out so much more easily if you put a piece of wax paper between the thinlit die and your cardstock!  Best trick ever!!
    • The Oval Framelits give you a perfect die cut for your focal point and a nice mat around it by just going up one size in framelit.
    • Adhere your patterned paper from the Sale-a-Bration Best Year Ever designer paper onto your Sahara Sand cardstock, and then wrap a piece of Coastal Cabana ribbon from the Sale-a-bration Best Year Ever accessory pack making sure to only glue the ends of the ribbon.  When you leave the middle of the ribbon unglued, it lays more nicely and lets you take a second piece of ribbon and slide it under your first ribbon and tie a knot.  So, you get a perfect faux bow everytime.

And just in case you want to make your own, here are the dimensions:

    Card base – 4 1/4” x 11” folded in half
    Sahara Sand cardstock – 4” x 5 1/4”
    Best Year Ever striped designer paper – 4” x 2 5/8”

Don’t forget, this designer paper and ribbon are while supplies last and only available until the 31st with your $50 order!  So, don’t miss out!

Curious about the Starter Kit or have questions about becoming a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator?  Join me for a Live Chat this Saturday!

I often get a number of questions from folks such as –

    • Can I join for the discount?
    • Can I really earn money with Stampin’ Up?
    • What comes with the starter kit?
    • Do you have recommendations for what I pick in my starter kit?
    • What are the minimums required for staying active as a Stampin’ Up demonstrator?
    • Do I have to actually sell anything?
      • Why would I want to sign up?
    • What do I get for signing up before Sale-a-Bration is over?

So I thought I would put together a Live Chat as a chance to not only answer these questions but also give multiple folks a venue for asking YOUR questions!  So if you have been curious about what it means to be a Stampin’ Up demonstrator, register and join me on Saturday morning at 10am PST.  If you can’t make it, register anyway and I’ll make sure to send you the recording afterwards.

  • LAST DAY for the Holiday Catalog and one more Sneak Peek with the Hello You Thinlit Dies

It’s true, it’s the last day of the Holiday Catalog. So if you were wanting some of the items from the catalog, now is the day to make sure you grab them!  Plus, it is also the last day of the Year-End Clearance Sale and many of these great deals will go away after tonight.  There are a few items that are carrying over from the Holiday Catalog and I’ll share that list at the end of this post.

In the meantime, I wanted to share one more project that came out of my “Use up all the scraps on my desk” project. Smile

I had extras of the wreaths that I had stamped and die cut using the Wondrous Wreath bundle, back when I was experimenting with colors for a class this fall.  I kept them lying around and so I though I would finally use them.  I decided to pair them with the retiring Color Me Autumn designer paper (50% off through tonight!) and use the new Hello You thinlits that are available starting tomorrow to make my own unique thank you cards!

    Tips for making this card:

    • The Hello You thinlits include the words “Hello”, “Thanks”, “You”, and “Happy”.  Snip off the “s” on the Thanks and you can create your own custom Thank You sentiment!thank you sentiment from Hello You Thinlit die
    • Just because a paper pack’s name implies it is a “fall” or “christmas” pack… many of the papers can be used anytime!  Like this yellow painted looking paper from the Color Me Autumn pack.  It totally works for anytime of year.
    • When stamping your wreaths, not only mix and match the colors you use, but mix and match the ORDER you stamp them as well!  In the sample above, I stamped first with Hello Honey, then Soft Suede, and then Blackberry Bliss.  In this sample below, I stamped first with Crumb Cake and then did Hello Honey and Blackberry Bliss.  I still can’t decide which I like better. Smile
    • Don’t want to hassle with a bow? Tie a knot in a piece of ribbon and trim the ends.  Attach to your project with a glue dot! Easy peasy!

I’m getting excited!  I’m going to try to film a catalog walkthrough tonight of the new Occasions Catalog so you can get the full scoop tomorrow.  So, if you have any questions, let me know and I’ll try to make sure to cover them!

  • Another Sneak Peek with Simply Wonderful and Tip for Using Your Patterned Paper Scraps

If you are like me, you have a pile of paper scraps on your desk… some punch outs, some larger cut pieces, some stamped images.  And I have a heck of a time convincing myself to recycle them because I just know they will be useable in another project.  Unfortunately, I don’t actually use them most of the time and they just pile up.  Like so –

    2015-01-01 15.18.40

So, I decided to spend some time this week using them up!  I’ve been sharing some of my progress on my Facebook page – www.facebook.com/nwstamper – but I just loved how this card turned out and so I had to share it here.

This is also a sneak peek of the Sale-a-Bration set Simply Wonderful.  I can already tell I’m going to have LOTS of fun with this one.

But the thing I really wanted to share was the technique for using up your scraps of paper to create this diagonal pattern for the card.

    Tips for making this card:

    • This is perfect use for 6×6 paper packs or pieces from my Paper Samplers!  New Occasions Catalog Paper Sampler is coming soon!  Watch HERE for more details.
    • Cut your strips of paper to 3/4” x 3” and adhere at an angle across a scrap piece of cardstock.  (I did two at a time and had two 1-1/4” x 4” pieces next to each other when glueing)
    • Trim the excess paper off the edges to get your final piece of patterned paper
    • The All is Calm specialty designer paper makes a pretty backdrop but it is only available until January 5th!
    • Add some baker’s twine and some Sequins (like the In Color Sequins) to add some coordinating bling to your card.

Check out a video for how I put this card together –

(viewing this post in email, click here to see it on my blog)

  • Gratitude Month Week 2 FREE Tutorial – Patriotic Thank You Card

As promised, though a little late, I shared this tutorial with my newsletter mailing list earlier this week (if you aren’t on the list you can sign up here).  But I also wanted to make sure to post it on my blog as well!  This was my card for Veteran’s Day and so it is a thank you card with a patriotic touch.

November Gratitude Month – Week 2 PDF Tutorial – Patriotic Thank You Card

    Tips for this card:

    • Emboss the three main stars from Be the Star stamp set onto your favorite colored cardstock and heat set with white embossing powder for maximum punch.
    • Each star can be exactly die cut using the coordinating Stars framelits and did you notice how well they nestle together?
    • Take the banner shape from the For All Things stamp set and stamp in Crumb Cake ink and cut out.  Then cut it in half to create two banners for your card.  Staple together with the mini stapler from Stampin’ Up and you have a cute accent for the top of your card.
Personally, I like stapling twice for decoration. Smile

    • Add a button and some ribbon, but keep it neutral so your stars can take center stage.

And most importantly, make sure to give this card to someone who means so much to you!

  • Wondrous Wreath Gratitude Card for the Fun n’ Crafty Blog Hop

Wondrous Wreath Gratitude Card for the Fun n’ Crafty Blog Hop

Fun n Crafty Blog Hop badgeIn keeping with the theme of Gratitude this month, a few of us from the Fun n’ Crafty Stampin’ Up! demonstrator team put together a mini-blog hop based around the theme of Gratitude.  This was my card I wanted to share with you today!

I LOVE this Wondrous Wreath stamp set and matching framlits, especially because you can easily cut out your wreath both outside AND IN and have all the little leaf shapes. Smile

For this card, I used more “Fall” colors instead of the reds and greens like I did on my Christmas Wreath card.  I used the following colors:

    • Hello Honey ink for the full wreath stamp with all the leaves
    • Soft Suede ink for the partial wreath stamp with about 1/4 of the leaves
    • Blackberry Bliss ink for the berries and the bow

And speaking of the bow, how awesome is it that you don’t have to hand cut that either! Smile  I stamped my bow and cut it out with the matching die but I’ve seen super pretty cards using glimmer paper for the bow or just plain cardstock as well.  Gotta love having options.

Then you can kind of see the card base is stamped as well.  I used the Hardwood background stamp ….
(TIP – I love my clearmount stamps, but when it comes to background sized stamps, I ALWAYS recommend to my customers to get them in wood.  Sure, you save a little space when you get it in clear, but then you have to get the $17 clear block to use with it, and in the case of a stamp like this, it is pain in the rear to get the sticker on right onto the back of the stamp!  I just think it is way easier and often more economical to get the background stamps in woodmount.  Though I’ll still love you if you decide you want it in clear. Smile )

but anyway, I used the Hardwood background stamp in the same color as the paper, which in this case was crumb cake.

I also made this card the same except for using Sahara Sand as my background instead of Crumb Cake.  Both are pretty… not sure which I like better, actually.  Swing by my Facebook page and cast your vote which paper you like better!

And now, check out a few more ideas for sharing gratitude this month!:

    10353106_10204078100138887_7954284539736439010_n

We don’t have a long list this this month so it’s easy to check everything out and enjoy the inspiration!  And please leave Sara and Pam some love on their blogs… I know it would mean a lot to them. Smile

Gratitude Month–Thank You Card using Kinda Eclectic and In Colors

Happy November!  As I mentioned yesterday, I’m kicking off my Month of Gratitude with a free gift for you and a project tutorial.  Today I’m sharing a card I created as a different way to use your Kinda Eclectic stamp set and have a neat thank you card that you can use for guys, girls, and any time of the year.

November Gratitude PDF Tutorial – Kinda Eclectic Thank You Card

    Project Tips:

    • Stick with a color family or In Color set (in this case the Stampin’ Up 2014-2016 In Colors) to make your background and for complimentary cardstock colors.  This gives you a variety of colors but you know the tones will work together no matter how wild you get with you stamping.
    • Use the starburst stamp from Kinda Eclectic to make a great background layer to your cards or projects.
    • Use the starburst framelits to cut out on of the stamped starbursts and do it off center.  This makes it more visually interesting, especially when you add an accent like the wooded elements.
    • When stamping on wooden pieces, use STAZON ink to prevent yucky bleeding and fuzzing of the ink.

So, click the link above if you would like the full tutorial for this project.  And if you would like to order anything, don’t forget I have a special gift for you each week with orders.  This week, you get a cool ribbon sampler from the Holiday Catalog as my thank you to you!

November Gifts of Gratitude for You

November is Thanksgiving time here in the US and so it is often a time to remind ourselves of all the things that we should be grateful for.  Whether that is a roof over our head, wonderful family, or the ability to do the hobbies or jobs that we love.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have a job that allows me to constantly explore and learn the creative crafts that I love and, more importantly, to be able to share that joy and what I learn with others.  I have met such wonderful and amazing people since starting out and so I wanted to give back this month with some extra gifts for everyone who makes this possible and who takes their time to share this wonderful hobby with me.

  • Fun Fall Cards with the Rock n’ Roll Technique

Sometimes you have to go back to those techniques have been been around forever… in this case, I created a card to share with my Stamp Club folks using the Rock n’ Roll technique.

I combined a few of my favorite fall items – like the Autumn Wood Elements and the Fall Fest stamp and framelit bundle.  It was a way to use those fall stamps and accents for a card that isn’t necessarily fall specific.

And of course there is the Rock n’ Roll technique which we used on the pumpkin here –

How to do the Rock n’ Roll Technique:

    1. You want to start with a solid image – in this case, the pumpkin – and ink it up with your lighter ink color.  You want to start with your lighter color, both for the look of the end result stamped image, and because you don’t want to get dark ink all over you lovely light ink pad!
    2. Before you stamp the image, grab a darker complimentary color ink and “roll” the stamp with the lighter ink around on the ink pad.  Basically, tilt your stamped image so that it is at a 45 degree angle (think a car up on two wheels like it is driving on a curb) and then roll so you are only touching the outer edge of your stamp to the darker ink pad.
    3. The more flat you hold your stamp when you roll, the less of the light color you will see.
    4. NOW stamp your image on your paper!

You should get a lighter color in the middle and the darker color around the edges.  Easy Peasy!

Now, I’ll admit, this is the card we made in Stamp Club, but this is the card I originally made and had planned to use for the class (I just managed to lose the stamp set at the time and so couldn’t bring it to class!  Darn craft room, eating my supplies!)

It is almost exactly the same, except that I used the For all Things stamp set instead.  I love how that leaf looks with this technique, don’t you?  I used the Hello Honey ink pad and edged with Cajun Craze for the pretty fall colors.

REMINDER – Don’t forget about the 6 months of free paper!  3 Days Left!

Just a quick reminder!  That you only have until October 31st to join my Stampin’ Up family and get in on the free pack of designer paper a month for the next 6 months!

  • A Fall Colors Thanks with Seasonally Scattered

Do you ever have one of those cards that seems like a great idea in your head… you start to put it together, and it just doesn’t exactly work out like you were picturing.  Then when you are done, you just don’t quite love the card – even though it looks totally fine to everyone else BUT you?

Well, this card is one of those for me.  I made it AGES ago but something never quite turned out the way I was hoping – not that I could tell you what that something was, I just knew something was bugging me.  So I set the card aside and moved on, and now, I can look at the card and start to like it again.

See, not bad…. actually has some fun parts to it really. Smile

    Tips for making this card:

  • Yes, I colored those flowers and leaves with markers. And yes, it took a while. But I found it to be very calming and relaxing which was nice.  I sat there with my 2014 In Color marker collection and patiently colored all the leaves, flowers, and lines.  It is worth it in the end!
  • Make your letters of your sentiment stand out more by outlining them with a marker – in this case with the Hello Honey marker.
  • Use the stamp again, only this time stamped with Crumb Cake ink to form a decorative border around the outside mat area!  Since the center will be covered up, you can have the word part be in the middle of your Crumb Cake cardstock and just cover over the “thanks” part with your White stamped cardstock.

    • Tear the edges of the Crumb Cake cardstock for a more rustic look to your card.
    • Wrap a piece of Blackberry Bliss ribbon around the front of the card and slightly under the bottom edge of your stamped sentiment.  Then tie your bow with a DIFFERENT piece of Blackberry Bliss ribbon and attach to the ribbon on the front of your card with glue dots.  Keeps it all nice and clean and smooth.

You can mix and match this same design with different colors and stamps for lots of fun different looks for your card!  In fact, I actually rejected this card for my Convention Display Board submissions because I thought it was an almost identical design to this love card!  If you don’t look closely they don’t seem the same, but check out the layers and elements and you’ll see what I mean!
