Painted Season Ideas for the Last 2 Days of Sale-a-Bration 2019

I love when you find a stamp set and coordinating patterned paper that work for a wide range of seasons and sentiments; and that is what the Painted Seasons bundle turned out to be for me this Sale-a-Bration! So, since we only have 2 days left of Sale-a-Bration 2019, I thought I would share with you some of the projects we have been making in my classes in the Seattle area over the last few months with this bundle.

I got the Painted Seasons bundle (free stamp set and paper pack – with your $100 purchase) because I loved the paper, and thought the stamp set was ok. Turns out, I love the stamp set just as much as the paper because it stamps beautifully every time for me!

Keep your colors simple and let the images POP for you!

Take the same idea of the first card and change the orientation of the layout and switch up the images from the Painted Seasons designer paper and stamps. The base supplies are all the same, so with just a change of colors and images you can get another beautiful card.

See what I mean? Really pretty cards! And you could change up the images but leave the colors the same in the first card and turn it into a Christmas Card! But, still need convincing with more ideas? Check these out:

This is one when you are feeling fancy and want to go for all the layers! Use Vellum to mellow out one of the brighter patterns in a designer paper pack, and then let your favorite bold pattern shine front and center.

And finally, a sweet and simple card that uses a single stamp and just some basic coloring for a bold statement.

Floral Phrases makes a great quick and simple card that is perfect for any hello or notecard

  • Sale-a-Bration Countdown–6 days left!–a bit of Sweetness with Honeycomb Happiness

The countdown is on!  We only have 6 days left of Sale-a-Bration, and I’d hate for you to miss out. Smile  Today I’m sharing some ideas from one of my FAVORITE options from Sale-a-Bration, the Honeycomb Happiness stamp set.  The funny thing is, you actually get a few different images from the set, but I’ve pretty much only used the Chick from the set… as you’ll be able to see from my multiple samples below, ha ha!  So, just so you know everything that is in the set, here is what it looks like:

    image

NOTE – they are RUNNING LOW on the clearmount version of this stamp, so you might want to grab yours sooner rather than later! Since they are not making more at this point!

But let me share a new-to-the-blog card with another idea for this set.  This was a card from my new Terrific Techniques series.  Last month we did Heat Embossing and this was one of the cards everyone made practicing the basics!

heat embossed honeycomb happiness sweet card

The other thing about this card that is cool, is that it is an example of how AWESOME the Project Life Grid Cards are.  But this isn’t a Project Life album page you say… that is right!  The cool thing is that the grid cards are a really economical way to have precut 3”x4” layers for your cards.  One side has a light grid pattern and the other side is plain white.  It isn’t as glossy as Whisper White cardstock, but when you are doing things like simple stamping or in this case, heat embossing, it works great!  And you get 50 cards for only $3.50.  Which is a steal of a deal!

In this card, you ink the chick with VersaMark and stamp onto the grid card and then cover with Black embossing powder.  Heat with your heat gun to set and then you can color to your hearts content with your Aqua Painter!

    white embossing on dark cardstock

Then we showed how great heat embossing looks on dark colored cardstock.

    • Rub the paper lightly with an Embossing Buddy (if you press hard, the white powder will show up on the paper)
    • Ink your stamp with VersaMark ink and stamp on the dark paper (this was Blackberry Bliss, one of the retiring In Colors)
    • Generously coat with light colored embossing powder like this White embossing powder
    • Tap off the excess and then heat with your Heat Gun
    • Only heat until the powder becomes shiny.  If any part is not shiny, you haven’t melted the powder enough.
    • TIP – if you are using metallic embossing powders, make sure to stop heating as soon as it becomes shiny!  Overheating will cause the metallic finish to dull and it will look tarnished instead.

Sponge the edges and layer with some of the Pretty Petals designer paper.  Add some of the White Perfect Accents (currently on the Weekly Deals!) and you have an oh so cute card!

close up of honeycomb happiness card

See why I love this chick?  He is just too dang cute!

NEW Terrific Technique Class is coming next week!  We’ll be playing with Vellum and different variations with it!  You can get your instruction sheet, samples, video instructions, and supplies to make two cards FREE with your $40 purchase through Monday!  Just use hostess code MZ2REKD7.

  • Using up scraps with Perfectly Artistic Paper

For the next few days, I’ll be featuring the Perfectly Artistic designer paper – one of the free with a $50 purchase options from the Sale-a-Bration catalog.  See, I’ve been holding on to this paper since it came out, but something about knowing it was retiring in a few days (it is only available until Feb 15th), got me to actually start cutting into it and turns out it is super fun to use!

Perfectly Artistic scrap paper thank you card

This card was my way of using up scraps around my craft table.  I had cut a bunch of the marble strips for a different card for class last week but I couldn’t bring myself to recycle these little bits.  That said, if I saved them, I knew they would just hang around forever and never get used!  (Know that feeling?) So, I challenged myself to use them up in a card now!  This was a whole lot of a little of this and a little of that, but I really like how it turned out…

what do you think?  Funky fun or funky weird?

Little scraps layer for big impact

When you have these scraps that are too small to stand on their own, but too big to just throw away, try creating off-kilter layers to help work with the differing sizes!  I used a strip of Basic Black cardstock to ground everything and then just started stacking on my Perfectly Artistic paper.

stamped vellum over perfectly artistic designer paper

Once you have your basics down… keep up with the layering! Vellum is a perfect way to break up a pattern on a paper without adding one more design into the mix.  I decided to try adding a stamped image (from the Perfect Pennants stamp set) to give it something to pull it all together.  But then, of course, I decided I needed some sparkle, so a scrap of Gold Glimmer paper was just what the doctor ordered!

Have trouble making all your layers even?  Don’t even try!

Since everything else in this card was not straight, I didn’t have to bother trying to make my matting around my sentiment even either!  I actually use this trick a lot when I think I will have a hard time stamping letters (or images) straight… if you intentionally stamp or glue your papers at not quite straight lines, then when you stamp or glue something down that isn’t even… it looks perfect!  It will match the rest of the card and look artistic, not like you messed anything up. Smile

endless thanks for the perfectly artistic card

Finally, I had to add one last touch, and that was to just hand draw a border line around the left, top, and right side of the card above my black cardstock.  I love sketch lines and like the fact that it isn’t perfectly straight.  Though it is easy enough to make them all nice and even with the help of a ruler. Big Day Birthday Card, Fun Idea for the March Paper Pumpkin Kit, & LAST CHANCE on Sale-a-Bration!

    ******************************************************

Ok, so I have A LOT to catch up on… so, big breath in, and get ready to dive in to some project ideas for you!

First up, this fun birthday card idea using the Sale-a-Bration stamp set – Big Day!

    Tips for making this card:

    • This was my first time using the new Chalk inks… and with it my first time playing with the new Chalkboard paper!  This paper has the COOLEST texture and is so fun to play with.  You want to stamp on the SMOOTH side with the chalk inks so that the ink will sit on the surface and give you that pretty chalkboard look.  (this is the Coral Rose color)
    • Add your own extra touches with the Chalk Pen!  The white dots under the cake and the white lines along the side of the chalkboard paper are made with the Chalk Pen.  As you can see, it is really vibrant on the Chalkboard paper, but more “chalky” when drawing on regular cardstock.
    • Make a fun embellishment piece by using the new Ornate Tag Topper punch… only don’t just stick to one side, do both!  I had a 2” strip of Whisper White cardstock that I punched both ends.  Then run some ribbon through the holes (and tie together on the inside of the card) to hold it in place.
    • Jazz up your Ornate tag by grabbing a Stampin’ Write marker and drawing a border about 1/16” in from the edge of the tag.  Really helps you see the design, huh?
    • And don’t hesitate to stamp your image and then stamp & color a second version to pop-up on top!  It keeps it interesting to look at when viewed at different angles, but you only have to color one. Smile

Lots of fun… and if you need another idea, here is a reminder of one of the official cards shared in the Sale-a-Bration catalog.  I love the colors and the little pop of dimension with the “Celebrate”

Big Day birthday cake card from Sale-a-Bration

  • You Are Amazingly Amazing Scrapbook Layout with the Best Year Ever designer paper

After a fun weekend with the Live Chat about the scoop on the Starter Kit and perks of being a demonstrator (if you missed it, here is the recording) and then a great card class, then finally working on details for running my first Crafty Escape Weekend in June!  So much fun and exciting stuff!

But now with it being Monday, I realized that there are only 2 more days of Sale-a-Bration & of the Paper Pumpkin Subscription sale!
(PS – for those of you who have been thinking of joining my Fun n’ Crafty group, that means tomorrow is the last day to get the bonus items or project kit!)

I still have lots of projects I wanted to share, so first up is this fun scrapbook layout I did recently using the Best Year Ever designer paper that you can get free with Sale-a-Bration:

I loved the goofy and sweet faces that Caitlin was making at lunch while we were at Legoland and so while I didn’t have a “story” behind the pictures, I knew I wanted to have them for our trip album.  And as I started thinking about what I wanted to use for my layout, I realized the light and bright colors in the Best Year Ever designer paper would be the perfect backdrop for my sweet girl!

I wanted the pictures to be the focal point, so I didn’t do a ton of embellishing, but I made sure to add a few spots of fun, starting with a couple flowers using the Bloom For You stamp!

    image

It is a single flower stamp, but the cool thing is it works with two different stamps – the Fun Flower punch and the 7/8” scallop circle punch.  So you can do things like stamp the flower in one color and punch out and then stamp in a second color and punch out with the 7/8” scallop circle punch and layer it on top!

Its also really subtle, but I wanted to do something else and so I added some Neutrals Candy Dots in Soft Suede onto the Soft Suede cardstock.  It’s a little touch but it works!

For my journalling, I created a block with white cardstock and then stamped my sentiment from the Painted Petals stamp set…. don’t you love that saying?  And then wrote my thoughts with a matching Stampin’ Write marker – the Hello Honey marker.

This layout goes together quickly and highlights your pictures so that they stand out and can make you smile each time you flip through your album!

Sale-a-Bration Reminder:  Just a reminder of what you can pick for free with your order today and tomorrow:

    image

If you decide to Join My Fun n’ Crafty Group, you can pick 2 of the items above to get free with your starter kit or any of the project kits from the Occasions Catalog!  Plus all the fun and perks of being a demonstrator and of being part of my group. Smile

And then I’ll be back tomorrow with a couple more project ideas including some fun ones with Paper Pumpkin!  And don’t forget, the discount on the 3 month subscription is only good through tomorrow as well!

    image

These are so pretty and you can either color the vellum like the background in that top card using your blendabilities, or you can just use the vellum as a layer like in this treat bag above.  They used it for a pocket and for the base bag.  Adorable!  (and that butterfly and flower are stamped using the last new item and that ribbon is from the Sale-a-Bration Best Year Ever accessory pack!  So combine what you already have with the new cuteness!

  • Bright Birthday Card with Celebrate Today and Sale-a-Bration Accessories

Did you catch my Occasions Catalog walkthough video?  If you did, you saw me showing this card when I talked about both Sale-a-bration products as well as the Celebrate You stamp set and framelit bundle.  It was my first time playing with this set and I just had too much fun!

    Tips for making this card:

    • If you like the Celebrate Today stamp set, then you definitely should go for the bundle!  You get framelits to cut out almost all of the shapes including those cute balloons (and pennants, which I didn’t in this card, but could have).  Plus you save money in the process.
    • When picking colors for your card, pick your papers or your accessories to get inspiration from. In this case, I reached for my Best Year Ever (FREE) Sale-a-Bration accessory pack and used the ribbons and buttons.  So, the rest of the card was centered around those colors – Crushed Curry, Calypso Coral, and Coastal Cabana
    • Don’t be afraid to go “off the page”!  I let my elements (like the sentiment and the balloon) have their edges peek over the edges of my white layer.  This gives the card more interest and keeps it from being too stiff.

Get those buttons and ribbons free!

You can only get them for free (that’s the best price, right?) and you can do it one of two ways:

    1. Place a $50 order in my online store and you can pick their bundle as your free Sale-a-Bration item
      OR
    2. Purchase my I WANT IT ALL Product Sampler from me.  As a bonus for getting the full shebang (all for only $26 for all the papers and accessories in the catalog) you’ll get a sampler of these ribbons, buttons AND the coordinating designer paper!  Sweet right?

Have fun and enjoy the new goodies!

  • Another Sneak Peek with Simply Wonderful and Tip for Using Your Patterned Paper Scraps

If you are like me, you have a pile of paper scraps on your desk… some punch outs, some larger cut pieces, some stamped images.  And I have a heck of a time convincing myself to recycle them because I just know they will be useable in another project.  Unfortunately, I don’t actually use them most of the time and they just pile up.  Like so –

    2015-01-01 15.18.40

So, I decided to spend some time this week using them up!  I’ve been sharing some of my progress on my Facebook page – www.facebook.com/nwstamper – but I just loved how this card turned out and so I had to share it here.

This is also a sneak peek of the Sale-a-Bration set Simply Wonderful.  I can already tell I’m going to have LOTS of fun with this one.

But the thing I really wanted to share was the technique for using up your scraps of paper to create this diagonal pattern for the card.

    Tips for making this card:

    • This is perfect use for 6×6 paper packs or pieces from my Paper Samplers!  New Occasions Catalog Paper Sampler is coming soon!  Watch HERE for more details.
    • Cut your strips of paper to 3/4” x 3” and adhere at an angle across a scrap piece of cardstock.  (I did two at a time and had two 1-1/4” x 4” pieces next to each other when glueing)
    • Trim the excess paper off the edges to get your final piece of patterned paper
    • The All is Calm specialty designer paper makes a pretty backdrop but it is only available until January 5th!
    • Add some baker’s twine and some Sequins (like the In Color Sequins) to add some coordinating bling to your card.

Check out a video for how I put this card together –

(viewing this post in email, click here to see it on my blog)

Did you know?  There are extra perks beyond placing your order during Sale-a-Bration!

    1. • Sale-a-Bration countdown with Scallop Tag Punch Boxes

Ok, after spending almost an hour fighting with my computer on formatting of this blog post, I’m just giving up and I hope you don’t mind if it scrolls a little long! 🙂 I’m starting the Sale-a-Bration countdown today and so I’ll be spending the next 4 days sharing Sale-a-Bration projects, and I just know I will have a bunch to share, so I figured I’ll post a few each day to fill you up with ideas! scallop tag punch boxes Last weekend was my first ever Stamp & Share for my group of Fun n’ Crafty demonstrators.  I am so grateful for these ladies and I wanted to make sure I was helping created events and opportunities for everyone to get to know each other, stamp together, and share ideas.  So, I put together an afternoon of stamping fun and business tips.  It was a huge success and I can’t wait to start planning the next one as I’d love to hold these each quarter! This time, I had some great presenters who shared some tips and tricks for some of our tools – specifically the Scallop Tag punch and the Thinlit flip dies.  Kathy Thisted (below) shared on the Scallop Tag punch. She had a TON of good ideas and tips but I’ll share the one that was new and exciting to me!  The idea that you can punch paper that is larger than 2”! I know, that shouldn’t be as mind blowing to me as it is, but I thought you could only punch paper that was 2” or less; but she showed how you can make borders, cut box flaps, and more with larger paper.  The big trick though to making sure you have the scallop edge where you want is to mark the front of your punch with a piece of paper or post-it showing where the edges of the tag opening are.  That way, you can align your score lines or markings on your paper so that the scallop tag end is exactly where you want it! Then she shared a bunch of great boxes including this one – all using some great Sale-a-Bration items including the Sweet Sorbet paper, See Ya Later stamp set, Banner punch, Sweet Sorbet accessories, and the Heartfelt Banner kit :

It is a simple 2” strip of cardstock that has been folded in half to make your basic bag shape.  Then add small strips of cardstock to the sides (adhering to the inside of your tag) to make the walls to keep your goodies from falling out the sides!  (side note – aren’t those little banners stinkin’ cute sticking out from behind the label framelit cut out?) Next was another box she made, only this time she took two of the flaps and cut the ends using the scallop tag punch.  The opposite flaps were trimmed and decorated.  But the scallop top makes for a cute decorative touch and a great place for a ribbon to tie your box closed.

Oh!  I totally forgot to point out the coolest part!  See that canvas banner on the side of the box?  Guess where it is from?  And no, she did not hand cut it! Give up?  It is from the Heartfelt Banner kit!!  How clever to cut up the banner kit into cute pieces to use in other projects.  Love that multi-purpose functionality. I just LOVED this third box though.

Another tall box with the scallop tag punch… but my favorite touches?

    1. The belly band with the huge flower using the Blossom Punch
    2. Tying the Sweet Sorbet twine through the top and anchoring it with a Vintage Faceted button!  Those buttons are really pretty but I never know what to do with them.  Looks like this is a really good answer! Smile

So, hopefully you saw some fun ideas and inspiration here.  Have a question about one of the boxes?  Leave me a comment or shoot me an email at jennifer@nwstamper.com and I’ll see if I can get the details for you!

Don’t forget, everything you see here that is from Sale-a-Bration is going away after Monday March 31stSo take advantage of the last 4 days of Sale-a-Bration

  • My Favorite Banner Card Yet!

    My Favorite Banner Card Yet!

I just realized this morning that I hadn’t shared this card yet and I love it so much that I figured I needed to fix that!

This is my favorite card yet that I’ve made with the Sale-a-Bration set Banner Blast and I know a lot of it is the color… and the bling… and the sentiment.  Ahhh, don’t you just love it when a card comes together for you?!  Smile

Isn’t Bermuda Bay and Basic Black a GORGEOUS color combination??  I just loved the colors and so I wanted to keep the whole card to those tones.

From the sentiment that I love from the See Ya Later stamp set – “I don’t believe it’s your birthday.  You don’t look any older than you did last year.”  to the clean white background to show off the banners.

Now, I don’t know why it took this long for me to think of stamping one of the Banner Blast pennants onto colored cardstock… for some reason I kept only stamping a colored ink onto white cardstock.  But look at how great the black ink looks on the Smoky Slate cardstock:

I also connected the banner by adding rhinestones instead of bakers twine or some other line.  Just the right amount of glitz.

Yes, both of these stamps sets are only available during Sale-a-Bration, so don’t forget there is only 1 week left to get them free with a $50 order!  Shop online and then pick out your favorite free item(s) and they will appear in your box!
