  • Peek-a-boo Washi Tape Card with a Quick Tip video tutorial

**LAST DAY!  Don’t miss out on the Stock Up & Save Sale!**

I’m so excited to share these cards with you today.  Not only because I love them, but also because I actually have a Quick Tip video tutorial to go with them!  Turns out I really enjoy putting videos together… who knew?  Anyway, let me share with you a fun card that you can reproduce with these punches or your favorites at home.

There are two main “fun” elements to this card – the washi tape strips and the layering of punches for the butterfly centerpiece.

First, here is how you would create the butterfly centerpiece:

    1. Punch out a butterfly (this is the Elegant Butterfly punch) from a piece of scrap Whisper White cardstock
    2. Set aside the punched out butterfly and grab the scrap paper with the butterfly hole in it.  Punch out a 2-1/2” circle using the 2-1/2” Circle punch so that the butterfly hole is in the middle of the circle.
    3. Sponge the edge of the circle with Coastal Cabana ink
    4. Punch out a 1-3/4” circle from a piece of Soft Suede scrap paper
    5. Set aside the punched out circle and grab the scrap paper with the circle hole in it.  Punch out a 2-3/8” scallop circle using the 2-3/8” scallop circle punch so that the 1-3/4” circle is centered in the middle of the scallop circle.
    6. Adhere the scallop circle to the front of the 2-1/2” sponged circle
    7. Adhere to the front of your card using Stampin’ Dimensionals

The other tip I have for you today is laying down your washi tape!  For my cards I used the sets from Stampin’ Up (Retro Fresh above, Beach House below).  You just lie three strips across your card front so that you can position your butterfly over the tape for a pop of color.

Video Tutorial – Check out this video for a quick tip for how to make sure you Washi Tape goes on straight.  (note – if you are reading this in email, click here so you can view the video)

Now, as you saw in the video you can use different colors of paper and washi tape to give slightly different looks to your card.  Here is what the exact same design looked like only with Strawberry Slush cardstock and the Beach House washi tape:

Let me know what you think about the video!  Please leave a comment and let me know if you’d like me to do more and even better, if you prefer quick tip videos, walkthrough for projects, or product reviews!  I so appreciate the feedback!

  • Bloom with Hope using Blendabilities on Window Sheets

I swear, if it wasn’t for the girls over at Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration, I would be even more behind on my blogging!  Smile  They are always so cheery and enthusiastic, and sharing such great ideas.  Today we are sharing ideas using Blendabilities markers and so I wanted to share another sample using one of the EASIEST techniques to use with your Blendablities – coloring on a window sheet!

It’s like the stained glass technique, only way less messy and just about as pretty!

    Tips for creating this card:

    • For this technique, you want to stamp on a window sheet with Stazon ink and then TURN IT OVER and color on the window sheet on the other side with your blendabilties markers.

    • With window sheets you can’t really blend your colors, so you just need to plan to go for one color or color different areas of the stamped image with different color markers – like I did here with the Cherry Cobbler and the Daffodil Delight blendabilities.  But you get such a shiny bright look, you won’t mind. Smile
    • Cut out your stamped image and adhere with glue dots to your project to prevent the adhesive from showing through.
    • Keep the rest of your card subtle – sponging the edges of the cardstock with Old Olive ink and using the large Polka Dot embossing folder for the background; so that your colored image can really pop!

Love this stamp set?  It is one of the hostess sets in the annual catalog and you get for free using $17 of your free hostess benefits – all for 2 jam full boxes of stamps!  They are so pretty and PERFECT for coloring with Blendabilities.  So, if you are placing a $150+ order or have some friends who would be interested in picking up some craft supplies (or holiday gifts!) let me know by emailing me at jennifer@nwstamper.com and we can get you hooked up for your freebies including this set!

If you are curious to see another idea with this technique, check out my Christmas card using this technique.

More Holiday Card Ideas from the Fun n’ Crafty Stampers

Did you check out our Fun n’ Crafty Holiday Swap blog hop?  If you did, you saw some great ideas using stamps and other products from the Stampin’ Up Holiday catalog.  Well, we had more people participate in the swap than could participate in the Blog Hop and they were all such great cards that I wanted to share more of them here today.

Here are more of the great cards that were shared:

For All Things watercolored card by Kathy Thisted

Festival of Trees Christmas Card by Tobe Buffenbarger

I loved all the little details from the tone-on-tone stamping with the trees to the stars embossing folder in the background… and of course, sequins!

Holiday Home Christmas card by Jill Cantorna

I love how she made it look like there were snowy hills by layering the white cardstock and adding a bit of sparkle along the edge of the each hill slope!  So creative!  And I thought it was awesome too how she was able to use the photopolymer santa image from this set and curve it so it fit in the moon!  One of the perks of bendy stamps.

This great Halloween Haunted house using Holiday Home by Cindy Espino

I wouldn’t have thought to make this stamp a haunted house but it was great!  And that Screamy Spooky background paper – all handstamped!  Yup!  From the Mingle all the Way stamp.  Didn’t she do awesome pulling all the different elements from different papers and stamps together?

Love this Seasonally Scattered swap by Rosemary Bryson

Rose is always so great at layering and having lots of little touches to her cards.  Like in this card, there is the embossing of the hearts in the background, the embossing of the sentiment, the marbling watercoloring, and of course the faux stitching!

So, what do you think?  Great ideas, right?

I hope they inspired you like they inspired me!  Seriously, one of my favorite things about getting the new catalogs is this great team swap.

  • Holiday Catalog Project Inspiration from the Fun n’ Crafty Stampers

I am so incredibly grateful for my Fun n’ Craft team of demonstrators.  They are an awesome group of crafters and just overall wonderful people.  In our group, we have Pam Wu who has started organizing card swaps for our team each time a new catalog comes out.  We usually have a good amount of people participate and let me say… the cards are off the charts awesome!  So today we thought we would do a little mini-blog hop to share them with you.

Here is my simple card that I swapped:

    Tips for creating this card:

    • The new Fall Fest stamp set makes this card quick and easy to create because the leaves and pumpkins are all part of the same set.  Plus, with matching framelits, cutting them out is a snap!  So, definitely grab the bundle and save 15% while you are at it.
    • Use the same color ink as your card base for stamping the little leaves randomly all over the front of the card.  This gives you a nice tone-on-tone look without being too busy or overwhelming your card.
    • Cut out both pumpkins with the framelits and pop them up on dimensionals for dimension to your card while still keeping it super simple

Use a small strip of the Burlap Ribbon to give it a real fall look.

And for the sentiment, I used the Host Special stamp set – Good Greetings!

    Good_Greetings

This set is fabulous, especially for holiday cards and you still have time to get it free!  Host a party (it can be in person or an online only party) or place a $300 order and you’ll get it free on top of your regular hostess benefits.  Email me at jennifer@nwstamper.com if you would like to set something up so you can get it! Smile

We had 4 more people participate in the swap (just for one reason or another, they weren’t able to participate in our little blog hop) , so I’ll be sharing their cards here on the blog tomorrow!  I hope you can come back and join me!

  • A Bit of Merry with Seasonally Scattered

It’s Monday and I’m still catching up from the weekend!  But I wanted to make sure to get a post up to share (I have sooo many projects to share I need to get crackin on getting them all posted and ready!)  Today is a quick Holiday card:

This was another convention display board card and I was trying to come up with something different to do with the Seasonally Scattered stamp set.  So, this was one of my “experiment” cards

    Interesting things on this card:

    • I started by stamping the “Merry” sentiment from the Seasonally Scattered stamp set with Versamark ink and then heat embossing with white embossing powder on some patterned paper (from the Moonlight paper stack).  Then to make the word really pop, I sponged over just the letters with Cherry Cobbler ink.
    • Not sponging over all the embossed image allowed the words to stand out and keep some of the snow clean and white Smile
    • Use sponge daubers to create perfect inked circles on your paper but in random patterns
    • It’s hard to see, but I sponge daubered in Versamark, some circles and then embossed with Iridescent Ice for some sparkle circles too!
    • I tied some Silver baker’s twine and some White baker’s twine around the front and then take extra pieces of twine and tie them to your strands for your knots.  Fringe the ends and voila!

It’s quick and easy and lots of little touches everywhere!

  • From Scraps to Shiny Sweet

Yesterday, I was trying to finally unbury my craft table…again!  I had everything piled up from the last two weeks, including all the odds & ends from my spare table that I used for prep work for my events that I took down over the weekend.  I was sooooo excited to be down to just all my scrap cardstock that was sorted and just needed to be put away in my file folders, so I thought I’d get it all wrapped up.

What is it about a clean craft table that makes you want to get crafting again?!

As I was putting away scraps, I had this stamped strip of paper and the scrap strip of Gold Foil paper.  I thought,” why not make a banner out of the gold paper and glue them together?”  Then I grabbed the Vintage button I had colored for my Blendabilties class and stuck it on the end… grabbed some sequin trim scrap, some lace scrap, and cherry cobbler scrap… and things just started coming together!  Gotta love it when that happens. Smile

    Tips for making this card:

    • Take a regular ol’ white or vanilla button – like this Very Vintage Button – and color it with your Cherry Cobbler blendabilities!  Use the PEN TIP to color so you don’t risk messing up your brush tip.
    • Add a single sequin to the center with a glue dot for a complimentary bit of shine.

    • Did you know, this sentiment is from the Happy Hour stamp set and is 25% off with the weekly deals this week!  Love it!
    • Want to add a bit of shine to a corner of a card?  Staple a string of sequins for some not-too-overdone shine!  I used my Stampin’ Up mini stapler to staple the strand into a twist first and then stapled that onto my card.  (yes, I’m sure that made no sense, but if you just staple it to your card front, that works great too!)

So, don’t forget to use those scraps!  You never know when they will come together just right. Smile

    Card Supplies Used:

  • A Little Bit of Love with Seasonally Scattered

Wanna see the very first card I made of the convention display boards this year?  And the very first one I made with the new Seasonally Scattered?  Well, here you go!

This card is pretty different from my usual style… in fact, I actually made it and then set it aside for a while to see if I liked it or not.  In the end, I decided I did like it and had fun with the mixture of patterns and textures!

    Tips for making this card:

    • The sentiments from the Seasonally Scattered stamp set are pretty big and the letters are part of the un-stamped image (meaning, when you ink up your stamp, where you see the letter “L” it does not get any ink on it).  But that gives you some fun other options, like heat embossing your image!
    • Once you emboss your image, sponge over the top of the embossed image for a varied saturation of color.

    • Tear off the edge of your embossed and sponged cardstock layer to give you a rough white edge since you’ll be ripping off the sponged surface and exposing inside of the white cardstock!
    • Color a pearl with your Cherry Cobbler blendabilities and then place it in the center of a Vintage button for a matching pop of color.

Oh, and I tucked my chevron ribbon under my white cardstock layer, to make sure the torn edge showed up and to mute some of the boldness of the chevron.

The nice thing about a card like this is that the big bold patterns and images give you a lot to look at when you look at the card but its actually super easy to put together.  Smile

Join me for some stamping fun!

My class calendar has been updated for the rest of the year!  As you heard, I have my Too Cute Curvy Keepsake box class coming up in a couple weeks; but I also have card nights, technique nights, and more.  Make sure you check out my calendar online or join my meetup to RSVP or stay in the know.

And YES! You can get my classes by mail as well!  Just let me know if you are interested in that option.

  • A Monochromatic Thanks with Seasonally Scattered

I was thinking last night about blog posts and realized that I had been so good about posting my display board projects from the 2014 convention, but then got sidetracked with other projects (and to be honest, I wanted to mix up the stamp sets I was featuring here) and completely forgot to finish sharing the display board projects!  I had saved some of my favorites for last and so I want to make sure to get them posted…. like today’s card!

This was one of the first I did with the Seasonally Scattered stamp set that I LOVED.  It’s not flashy, but I like it’s understatedness.  What do you think?

    Tips for this card:

    • Did you know, the Lovely as a Tree has a leaf stamp that goes PERFECTLY with the Seasonally Scattered thanks stamp??  Stamp your thanks image and then start stamping some falling leaves in Versamark and heat emboss with gold ink for a pretty fall touch.

    • Wrap some linen thread around a few times to add some texture and a simple rustic touch to your card.
    • In keeping with the brown monotone look for the card, I sponged the edge of my Very Vanilla cardstock with Crumb Cake to help all of the cardstock pieces transition nicely with each other.

Its delightfully simple and yet elegant to do… and you could mix and match your colors to get exactly the look you want.  For this card, I used:  Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, and Very Vanilla; but shake it up when you try it at home!

  • Blendabilities Technique Fun with Starburst Sayings

Last week I had my Blendabilities technique class and it was a lot of fun.  As I’ve mentioned before, one of my favorite things about running a technique class is not only to I get to share some really fun ideas and tips with others, but I also spend a lot of time reminding myself and learning more about the technique and really spending a lot of time playing around.  And let me tell you… playing around with Blendabilities is AWESOME!

You do have your Blendabilties already, right?

This was one of the cards everyone did and it showed off using Blendabilities 3 different ways including:

    1. coloring in a stamped image using shading (the flower)
    2. coloring in white space on a black stamped image (words in the starburst sentiment)
    3. and coloring in designer paper for a really great effect (the pattern paper strip across the card front).

    BAM!  3 techniques – 1 card!

    Tips for this card:

      • When coloring with Blendabilities, I like to start with the lightest color first and color in all or almost all of the image and then start building up with the darker colors to shade in and get tone and dimension to your image.
      • Don’t forget you can color in stamped images – just scribble over the black ink and white spaces… the marker coloring will fade into the black image and pop out on the white spaces.
      • And if you have designer paper that seems a bit plain or boring to you, spice it up by grabbing your Blendabilties and start shading!  I started with this black and white pattern:
        image
Then I shaded half of the diamond shape with the lightest color of the Coastal Cabana Blendabilities and then shaded about 1/4 of the shape from the right with the medium shade.  And then finally just added a dab of the darkest color.

I’m also sharing this card as part of the Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration Stamp Set Spotlight!  They are sharing a number of cards using the Starburst Sayings stamp set which is what I used for that fabulous main greeting.  Plus, don’t you think the starburst is just so much more fun and interesting on a card than a plain circle?  Sometimes you just need those spikey bits. Smile

    Enjoy all the ideas!
