  • Seasonally Scattered Valentine’s Box & NEW Product Shares!

You’ve probably seen my projects and others using Seasonally Scattered and many of them were focused on the Thanks and Merry sentiments.  You know, because they fit so well for fall and for winter.  But before the stamp set disappears in a couple days (last day to snag it is Jan 5th!) I wanted to share this project I created for the Convention Display boards this summer.

You may have seen this project on my blog from a long while back:

Seasonally Scattered Love Card blog post

And with that card I did heat embossing and sponging, but I had an idea to do something similar but wanted to really make the “LOVE” sentiment POP!  So I started working and I kept grabbing for things I hadn’t used in a while and this box came out:

See?!  Now do you see why I can’t believe this set is not continuing on for Valentine’s Day?

Anyway, I had lots of fun making this box and you could totally use bits and pieces from the box to make a card or make your own special box for someone you love.

    Tips for making this project:

    • Use the kraft gift boxes for your base.  They are very inexpensive easy to pop together, and very sturdy for your box.
    • Start by heat embossing your LOVE image onto a piece of Watercolor Paper using versamark and black embossing powder.
    • Use the Aqua Painter and your Real Red ink pad to color in the paper EXCEPT for the “LOVE” sentiment.
NOTE – when picking up color with your Aqua Painter, make sure to pick up the color from your ink pad LID and not the surface of the pad itself to avoid diluting your ink pad in one spot.
    • Cut out the sentiment using the Oval framelits and then cut out a bigger Oval from the white crepe filter paper.  Fringe the edge of the larger oval and layer behind.
    • Stamp around the edges and heat emboss another piece of watercolor paper for your top using just the scatter design portion of the LOVE stamp.  This gives you the coordinating look on top.
    • Add a spiral flower using the Spiral Flower die (use glue dots or liquid glue to hold your flower together) and add some watercolored scraps of the filter paper to the middle of the flower for filler.

    • Did you know? You can color the Vintage Faceted buttons with your Blendabilities to make them custom fit your projects?  That is what I did here with my Cherry Cobbler blendabilities!

And there you have it, a great little box for that special someone for Valentine’s Day or any time of the year.

  • The Convention Swap that Made Me Need the Alphabet Rotary Stamp

~~ LAST DAY to Shop the Holiday Extravaganza ~~
~~ Join Stampin’ Up with me & pick out $125 in any catalog or sale items to receive for only $74.25!~~

With all the hub bub about the Online Extravaganza, I was looking through the list and seeing the things I loved and the items I totally wanted to grab.  For example, the Alphabet Rotary Stamp.  I had seen it in the past and didn’t think much of it, but now that it is 50% off Today ONLY, I thought I would share the card that got me super excited about it.

This was a convention display board card by Jeanna Bohanon that I received as a swap card this last summer.  I’ve totally been meaning to share it but thought now would be a great time.  Can’t we all use a little sunny rainbow in our day?  I also love how complicated it looks, but how simple it is to create!  My kind of card!

    Tips for making this card:

    • Heat emboss your image (in this case the LOVE from Seasonally Scattered) with white embossing powder.  Then do some quick coloring with your Stampin’ Write markers over the top of the embossing powder.  The dye-based ink will not stick to the embossed image, letting the white show through.
    • Add your own sentiment touch by using the Alphabet Rotary stamp!  It gives you 13 spaces for numbers, letters, or characters including these cute hearts.  You can add spaces too so you could make it be more than one word.  It is a perfect way to add your own touch to sentiments on your card.
    • Add some scraps from your craft table, like some Black Chevron Ribbon (or pick one of the colors that is on sale today for 50% off too!), some Brights buttons, twine, or even that cute 1/8” Silver Taffeta ribbon.

I can’t wait to play with my rotary stamp and have fun making lots of customized sentiments for my cards and scrapbooking!

Reminder – Today is the last day for the starter kit deal and the chance to get 25% off all your purchases in December including new Occasions Catalog items and Sale-a-Bration 2015 items!

  • Holiday Gift Bag for Christmas using Seasonally Scattered

How about something a little different today – a fun gift bag that is WAY QUICKER to make than you might expect using the Seasonally Scattered stamp set and those great chevron printed bags from Stampin’ Up.

I created this for the Convention Display boards this last summer (yes, I’m still working on finishing up sharing all the projects for that! Smile) and I was asked to make some 3D projects for each the stamp sets I was given.  I started adding a little bit here and there and finally it all came together in a fun festive bag.

    Tips for making this project:

    • Start by gluing down a tea lace doily to the front of the preprinted chevron bags from Stampin’ Up.  The preprinted bags are great for small treats or gifts and since they already have the pattern it makes it easy to just add a little bit here and there and have it look great.
    • I stamped the Merry sentiment from the Seasonally Scattered stamp set on a piece of scrap paper and cut it out.  Layer over some scrap Old Olive cardstock and tear the edges of the Old Olive paper so it is just longer and taller than the stamped image.
That is right… just tear… no tricks or special tools.  I usually just rip my paper pulling at a slight angle so I expose some of the core of my cardstock for a more textured look.
    • Loop some seam binding ribbon and adhere to the back and you can add everything to your doily with Stampin’ Dimensionals!

    • Then just punch out some extra banners using the Banner punch ( 1- Cherry Cobbler, 1- Old Olive, 1- Whisper White stamped with the snowflakes from the merry sentiment stamp)
    • Stuff your bag and then staple some Gold Sequins and the banners to the top corner to keep it closed!

The only part that takes any time with these bags is the cutting out of the Merry sentiment, but you could use a framelit and die cut it to make it even faster!

  • A Fall Colors Thanks with Seasonally Scattered

Do you ever have one of those cards that seems like a great idea in your head… you start to put it together, and it just doesn’t exactly work out like you were picturing.  Then when you are done, you just don’t quite love the card – even though it looks totally fine to everyone else BUT you?

Well, this card is one of those for me.  I made it AGES ago but something never quite turned out the way I was hoping – not that I could tell you what that something was, I just knew something was bugging me.  So I set the card aside and moved on, and now, I can look at the card and start to like it again.

See, not bad…. actually has some fun parts to it really. Smile

    Tips for making this card:

  • Yes, I colored those flowers and leaves with markers. And yes, it took a while. But I found it to be very calming and relaxing which was nice.  I sat there with my 2014 In Color marker collection and patiently colored all the leaves, flowers, and lines.  It is worth it in the end!
  • Make your letters of your sentiment stand out more by outlining them with a marker – in this case with the Hello Honey marker.
  • Use the stamp again, only this time stamped with Crumb Cake ink to form a decorative border around the outside mat area!  Since the center will be covered up, you can have the word part be in the middle of your Crumb Cake cardstock and just cover over the “thanks” part with your White stamped cardstock.

    • Tear the edges of the Crumb Cake cardstock for a more rustic look to your card.
    • Wrap a piece of Blackberry Bliss ribbon around the front of the card and slightly under the bottom edge of your stamped sentiment.  Then tie your bow with a DIFFERENT piece of Blackberry Bliss ribbon and attach to the ribbon on the front of your card with glue dots.  Keeps it all nice and clean and smooth.

You can mix and match this same design with different colors and stamps for lots of fun different looks for your card!  In fact, I actually rejected this card for my Convention Display Board submissions because I thought it was an almost identical design to this love card!  If you don’t look closely they don’t seem the same, but check out the layers and elements and you’ll see what I mean!

  • Getting Merry with Seasonally Scattered

So, turns out I am really good at making projects… I can even do a pretty good job of photographing my project…um, NOT so good at actually editing and posting my photos! Oops!

I love creating and I love sharing the ideas with everyone because goodness knows how much inspiration I get from seeing the ideas from everyone else.  So, this week, I took a day and finished editing over 100 pictures that were left sitting on my computer begging me to post and so today I’m working on getting some of them up and posted!

This card is one I created for the Stampin’ Up Convention Display Boards this summer using the Seasonally Scattered stamp set.  Kinda fun figuring out different ways to use this big sentiment stamp.

    A Blue Christmas

I had wanted to do something different with the stamp and so I actually colored it with 3 different markers to get the look on my sentiment:

    1. Start by coloring the letters portion with the Night of Navy marker
    2. Then color some of the snowflakes around the letters with the Lost Lagoon marker
    3. Finally color the outermost snowflakes with your Soft Sky marker
    4. Done!

I also “got creative” aka layer, layer, layer… and did some coordinating cardstock layers and added a touch of silver by glueing a border of silver baker’s twine around the edge of my sentiment (if you want to do this, I recommend the liquid glue with the green cap and putting a very fine line on your cardstock that you can squish your twine into).

And my accent point, I added some Smoky Slate chevron ribbon and a Subtles button to the corner and frayed the end of my twine a bit for some extra texture.

  • A Bit of Merry with Seasonally Scattered

It’s Monday and I’m still catching up from the weekend!  But I wanted to make sure to get a post up to share (I have sooo many projects to share I need to get crackin on getting them all posted and ready!)  Today is a quick Holiday card:

This was another convention display board card and I was trying to come up with something different to do with the Seasonally Scattered stamp set.  So, this was one of my “experiment” cards

    Interesting things on this card:

    • I started by stamping the “Merry” sentiment from the Seasonally Scattered stamp set with Versamark ink and then heat embossing with white embossing powder on some patterned paper (from the Moonlight paper stack).  Then to make the word really pop, I sponged over just the letters with Cherry Cobbler ink.
    • Not sponging over all the embossed image allowed the words to stand out and keep some of the snow clean and white Smile
    • Use sponge daubers to create perfect inked circles on your paper but in random patterns
    • It’s hard to see, but I sponge daubered in Versamark, some circles and then embossed with Iridescent Ice for some sparkle circles too!
    • I tied some Silver baker’s twine and some White baker’s twine around the front and then take extra pieces of twine and tie them to your strands for your knots.  Fringe the ends and voila!

It’s quick and easy and lots of little touches everywhere!

  • A Monochromatic Thanks with Seasonally Scattered

I was thinking last night about blog posts and realized that I had been so good about posting my display board projects from the 2014 convention, but then got sidetracked with other projects (and to be honest, I wanted to mix up the stamp sets I was featuring here) and completely forgot to finish sharing the display board projects!  I had saved some of my favorites for last and so I want to make sure to get them posted…. like today’s card!

This was one of the first I did with the Seasonally Scattered stamp set that I LOVED.  It’s not flashy, but I like it’s understatedness.  What do you think?

    Tips for this card:

    • Did you know, the Lovely as a Tree has a leaf stamp that goes PERFECTLY with the Seasonally Scattered thanks stamp??  Stamp your thanks image and then start stamping some falling leaves in Versamark and heat emboss with gold ink for a pretty fall touch.

    • Wrap some linen thread around a few times to add some texture and a simple rustic touch to your card.
    • In keeping with the brown monotone look for the card, I sponged the edge of my Very Vanilla cardstock with Crumb Cake to help all of the cardstock pieces transition nicely with each other.

Its delightfully simple and yet elegant to do… and you could mix and match your colors to get exactly the look you want.  For this card, I used:  Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, and Very Vanilla; but shake it up when you try it at home!

  • Speedy Scrapbooking with Seasonally Scattered

I realized this weekend that I haven’t done traditional scrapbooking in what feels like a long time.  And I really do miss it!  So, after I get all caught up with the samples for my next few events, I will be for sure doing more scrapping.  And I may just have to plan a cropping day too… anyone want to join me?

Today’s share however is a page I created for the Stampin’ Up convention display boards using the new Seasonally Scattered stamp set from the Holiday Catalog (which I’m finishing mailing out this week, so if you need a copy, let me know!)

    Tips for this project:

    • Keep it quick by using the designer paper packs, like the Moonlight pack here, and just overlap full sheets of the paper to make your background.  No cutting means fast designs!
    • Use up your ribbon scraps by trimming the ends and then adhering them in a group behind one of your layers of paper.  I mixed 1/8” Taffeta in Melon Mambo and Satin Ribbon in Hello Honey & Blackberry Bliss.

    • After stamping your sentiment in Melon Mambo and then outline the letters of the stamped image in a contrasting marker – in this case Blackberry Bliss.
    • Use vellum for a subtle way to add journalling to your project without the journalling block dominating your scrapbook page.
    • Add a few sequins for some bits of color and shine along the top of your page.

The fun part about scrapbooking is that you get to enjoy the memories while you are working because you are looking at your pictures… plus you get to have fun will all your tools and techniques as you build your page.  It is like a really big card to play and experiment with!

Scrapbook even faster with Project Life!  If you have tons of pictures you want to get documented but don’t feel like you have time to scrapbook, don’t forget to check out Project Life.  All you need is a few essentials:

  • Holiday Catalog Sneak Peek–Seasonally Scattered Thank You Card

I know, I know… I’ve been super slow about getting more Holiday Catalog sneak peeks up!  Eek, my bad!  Well, I have one for you today and I’m sure I will have more for you next week – my holiday catalog preorder just arrived!  In the meantime, here is a card I put together for the Stampin’ Up 2014 convention display boards using one of the sets we were given at convention called Seasonally Scattered.  This is one of the new sets from the Holiday catalog and has this Thanks image along with a “Merry” and a “Love” image with background images speckled behind the letters.

    Tips for making this card:

    1. When I got this set, the first thing I wanted to do was heat emboss (which I did… a lot) but then I wanted to do something different and this image screamed at me to color with my markers.
Which I admit took a little bit of time, but it comes out soooo pretty.  The only thing is that there is no outline for the letters.  So I found that to make them extra readable, I outlined the letters with my Hello Honey marker for a subtle emphasis and separate of the letters from the rest of the image.
    2. Add your own little flower element too by punching out a couple flowers using the Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack and offsetting them for a pretty dimensional touch.
    3. Grab the Autumn Leaves Bigz Die to finish out the fall look and layering them behind your image.
    4. By keeping it all in the 2014-2016 In Color family, you can add lots of accents but not have them get too busy because you know the colors will all coordinate!

I have lots more projects where this came from with this set and while this set was a little hard to get started with, let me just say there are no end to the ideas and inspiration I saw that make me not sad at all that I have it. Smile

Special Invitation to Seattle Area demonstrators

If you are a demonstrator in the Seattle area and like the idea of getting together with other demonstrators to chat, share ideas, get some new tools and class ideas, then I’d like to invite you to my teams Stamp & Share.  This year I’ve started a new event for my group called a Stamp & Share where we get together for essentially a mini-regional (on a much smaller scale).  We hang out for an entire afternoon (12:30-5pm) and there are stamping demonstrations and presentations, a business presentation, card contest, games, make & take that you can use as a class idea, and of course, Prizes!!  I always feel the more people there to share the better but as I’m getting this started I’m confined a bit on space.  That said, we have room for a few more folks join us and I’d love for you to join us.

We’ll be meeting August 23rd at 12:30 in the Newcastle/South Bellevue area.  If you’d like to join us, just register here and I’ll make sure you have all the info!
