  • All About Carols of Christmas – a blog hop

All About Carols of Christmas – a blog hop

Carols of Christmas blog hop banner
I’m back and sharing today another fun idea using the fabulous Carols of Christmas sneak peek bundle!  If you have stopped by my blog recently, you saw my totally different Carols of Christmas card, and that is why I love this bundle – you can make such a wide variety of cards and styles of cards with the same stamps and dies!

*** Don’t forget, you have until Monday night (7/31) to get this stamp set & essentials pack FREE when you purchase the demonstrator starter kit or anyone can purchase the stamp set and dies as a bundle starting August 1st as part of the Holiday Catalog early release sneak peek! ***

Tips for making this Carols of Christmas forest scene card:

Last post I focused on the card front edge dies, so this time I wanted to play with the scenery dies instead.  I came up with a fun forest scene for you to use as the highlight of your card.  Its so easy to pull together with just a few pieces, so you could totally mass product the scene for multiple holiday cards.

    • Stamp and die cut all the pieces you need first and then quickly assemble them with your basic tape runner and Stampin’ Dimensionals!
Here are all the pieces you need to put together the forest scene:
Carols of Christmas die cut forest scene pieces neededYou’ll notice the wavy stitched circle on the right.  That is just the same stitched circle die from the Stitched Shapes framelits (largest circle), only cut out from the edge of a piece of scrap paper.  Then I took my paper snips and cut a wavy edge, similar in curve to the bottom of the double tree die cut.  You’ll layer this over the full circle to create a snowy hill.
    • Make it POP! Adhere the double trees directly to your large stitched circle, then add the wavy circle with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then add in your single tree and deer, and any other elements you want to add.
    • Don’t stop with the die cuts! I added Clear Wink of Stella to the wavy circle to make it like twinkling snow.  I also used the Chalk Marker to add dusting of snow onto the tops of each of the branches on all the trees.
Carols of Christmas die cut forest scene christmas card detail view
    • Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals are perfect! They are exactly the right size for holding up the body of the deer and the top of the single tree.  No needing to fuss with cutting up edges or larger standard dimensionals.
    • How to easily adhere skinny ribbons – I really wanted to add a touch of color and a border to my patterned paper.  I love this plaid pattern from the Merry Little Christmas designer paper in the Holiday Catalog but wanted more than just green and neutrals.  I was looking at my ribbons and the Fresh Fig 1/8″ ribbon was perfect!  The only problem?  How to glue it down!
      Check out my solution:
how to cut tape to use with skinny ribbonI tried liquid glue, but it would leak through the ribbon and make an ugly dark circle.  So I knew I needed a tape.  I reached for my Tear & Tape and it hit me! Just trim off a very skinny piece from the end of the tape spool and it fit perfectly onto the ribbon.  I added 4 pieces of tape  along the ribbon and it held great.
    • Sentiment doesn’t fit? Cut it up! Finally, I wanted to use a sentiment from the stamp set, but the blocky sizing just didn’t fit my card.  So what’s a stamper to do?  Why cut it up, of course!  I stamped the sentiment on scrap paper and then trimmed each piece out.  Tape it down and it can now fit wherever you need!

Then I just added some pearls for snow and a bit of the burlap ribbon for the finishing touches.

Fun Idea for the Sunburst Thinlit Die

So, are you ready for some inspiration?  Maybe even some things to add to your starter kit Winking smile.  This was a card I created for my Stamp Club as a way to mix and match some supplies in my craft room that I didn’t normally think to put together.  Check it out:

Fun things to try on this card:

    • Create a cool background with the Sunburst Die and Vellum!  I love the look of the sunburst die, but I wanted to do something a little bit different with is, so I used it to create a background pattern for my card.  The neat thing is that when you use Vellum for your sunburst, you can layer it over your cardbase and depending on the color of your base cardstock, you’ll get a cool muted color where the vellum overlays.
    • Only adhere the vellum where it is covered – just a tip for gluing down your Vellum, only put the glue where the sunburst will be covered up.  So, in this case, I just glued down underneath the square and not all the way to the ends of the sunburst rays.
    • Create a frame for the sentiment of your card – I love doing this with my cards.  I stamp my sentiment onto a piece of cardstock and then on a SECOND piece of cardstock (slightly larger than the sentiment piece) punch out a window using a framelit (like the Circles Framelits for a card like this) or a punch.  Then pop up that cardstock with a cutout over your sentiment using Stampin’ Dimensionals for a cool layered look.
    • Add extra texture by using an embossing folder for your frame piece – I took it up a notch by using the Woodgrain embossing folder on my circle frame piece.  Now, word of caution – you want to put in as few shims as necessary when embossing with this particular folder because when you go to cut out your circle, you end up with skinnier areas of cardstock around the circle which will be prone to tearing if your aren’t careful.  Good news though, if it tears a little, you can always put a dimensional behind the tear and it will hold it together and hide the rip.

I also created my colorful background for the sentiment by using the swoosh from the Work of Art stamp set and stamped in three different colors

    • Pool Party
    • Delightful Dijon
    • Wisteria Wonder

But mix and match the colors to coordinate with the colors of your card!

Try another color combination for the same card idea!

I thought I’d also post another version of this card that I created for the April OnStage Display boards – I changed up the colors to make the emphasis Mint Macaron, one of the colors I needed to highlight for the boards.

So you can see that changing up the colors on this design still looks great!  In this case, I used

    • Pool Party
    • Sahara Sand
    • Mint Macaron
    • Watermelon Wonder (for the heart)

So give it a try and let me know what color combinations you discover and love!

  • Endless Thanks Spring Thank You Card and More! 6 Card Ideas to get you Started with the Starter Kit!

Ever have one of those days where the mojo just couldn’t seem to get in gear?  That was me yesterday, I think it took me 4 cards before I started coming up with something I liked!  But this all stemmed from a fun challenge I came up with yesterday…

Pick out a Stampin’ Up starter kit and create class samples that a new demonstrator could use for their first event using just what they got in their starter kit!

I often get people asking me,”What should I get in my starter kit?” and I have a general list of what to get and where to get started, but I thought I’d try to put together one that uses the kit to it’s full potential.  Especially, when you have promotions like the Two FREE Stamp Sets with Starter Kits ordered by 6/30  (that’s TOMORROW!)  But this is what I came up with:

June 2015 Starter Kit value suggestion

    >> Order your Starter Kit here <<

See?? I told you it was an amazing deal… especially because it comes with no obligation and just lots and lots of opportunity!  So, on to the opportunity part, I told you I was having some Mojo struggles yesterday, but thankfully about 4 cards in I started putting together this card and I just LOVED IT!!  What do you think?

    Tips for making this card:

    • Grab the Endless Thanks stamp set and your favorite ink colors and you can use the curved vine to make your own custom wreath!

      image
    • Stamp the larger flower with Watermelon Wonder onto a scrap of Watermelon Wonder cardstock and then cut out by hand for a wreath focal point.  (Its only one little flower so it isn’t that bad for all you folks who don’t like fussy cutting! Winking smile)
    • Spice it up by adding one of the In Color Blossom Accents.  You’ll want to use a Glue Dot to adhere your Accent to the cut flower.

    • The sentiments come mix & match style in the stamp set, so have fun and mix & match your ink colors!  Here I have Memento Black and Delightful Dijon.
    • Use different colors for your wreaths to fit different times of year!  Add more leaves in orange, red, and yellow for the fall…navy, soft sky, and sahara sand for winter, etc.  This summery combo is just the 2015 – 2017 In Colors – Mint Macaron for the vine, then Cucumber Crush, Watermelon Wonder, and Delightful Dijon.

    • If you cut your cardbase to be 5.5” x 8.25” and fold in half, you can easily wrap some of the Cucumber Crush dotted lace trim around the front of the card and tie into a pretty knot to the left of your wreath.

This would make an easy card for a class or workshop.  If you want to make it slightly more economical for a large group, instead of using the Blossom Accent, cut out the large flower and then add a rhinestone in the middle.  Voila!  A pretty flower for your wreath!

Now, I told you, I was trying to come up a few cards you could make with this starter kit.  I mean, really, what is the point of getting a starter kit of lots of fun stuff if there is only one thing you can do with it? Smile  So, while I will not claim these are all my best samples ever, they are all ones you would be great for some classes or workshops.  Plus, with your starter kit, you would have supplies to make LOTS of all of these cards – So invite lots of people to join you for your kick off event! You could even do 2 or 3 at your first event and then do 2-3 more at your next event…how is that for planning?!

If you decide to join my Fun n’ Crafty Stampers group, I’d be happy to send you close up pictures of all of these cards and cutting dimensions for all of the paper pieces.  Smile   I also give everyone in our group copies of my class by mail project tutorials each month.  So you’ll continue to get more class and project ideas throughout the year too!  We can’t wait to welcome you to our group!  Get started by ordering your Starter Kit here

Coming to my Playing with Color – Meet the In Colors Class or getting it as a kit by mail?  I’ll be including the supplies for this as a bonus card for you!  I just loved it so much and you’ll have all the ink, so I figured why not add it in to the class!  RSVP here or order your kit by mail!

  • One Day Doorbusters and a Great Starter Kit Deal!

It’s official!  We are kicked off into the holiday season!  I for once am actually almost completely done with my holiday shopping… and now need to focus on finishing up my Christmas Cards and also putting together my December Scrapbook album.  Every year I’ve ended up putting together a scrapbook of just the happenings in December.  And with 3 birthdays in our family (mine and both my kiddos) plus Christmas, there is always a lot of photos and lots to talk about.

This year I’m trying out an idea I heard from the December daily style albums.  Basically, I’m putting together the basic skeleton of my album together in advance using the Stampin’ Up 6×8 Project Life Album and Hello December Card Collection & Accessory Pack.  That way, I can add in my pictures as I go and then add in extra pages as needed along the way. Smile But I don’t have to start from scratch at the end of the month!   You know, something like this:

    image

So, while I’m working on that, don’t forget about today’s Doorbusters from the Online Sale!  (See ALL the sale items listed here)

A few FAQ I’ve been asked:

    • What are the requirements if I sign up?
None!  This is a no obligation, try it and see if you like it kind of thing.  If you buy/sell $300 by March 2015, then you will continue to receive the perks of being a demonstrator for the following 3 months.  At that point, you just need to sell/buy $300 each quarter to maintain your active status.
    • What if I don’t meet the minimums in a quarter?
Your active demonstrator status is dropped and you keep everything you’ve earned or purchased and just continue crafting and creating however you;d like.  There is no penalty at all!
    • What are the perks of being a demonstrator?
Get 35% off your first order of $150 or more, get 25% off all your purchases in December, earn money on anything anyone orders from you, be connected with other enthusiastic stampers through the Stampin’ Connection demonstrator forum, my team’s Facebook group, see the spring catalog and sale-a-bration promotion first and even order from it in December with your discount, be the first to hear about Stampin’ Up news and share your excitement with others and be inspired in your crafting.  Plus I’m here to help you navigate it all and get what you want out of your experience.

Don’t need Blendabilities?  Pick anything you want for the $125 value!
Plus, get 25% off all your orders in December if you get your starter kit during the sale.
