  • A Simple Elegant Card Perfect for a Birthday, Wedding, or White Christmas!

Today is my Birthday and I am so excited for an afternoon where I don’t have to do anything except kick back with some great music and pull out all my preorder goodies and craft, craft, craft!  But before I got elbows deep in paper and ink, I wanted to share with you a card I put together for Stamp Club this month!

I had had someone ask about a birthday card and I had seen a card that used white embossed paper over a white cardbase that I loved and so I set out to replicate and tweak that idea using my Stampin’ Up supplies I had at home.  I just love how elegant it turned out and I was so excited to share it with everyone at my events this month!  I made mine be birthday but switch out the sentiment and it would be great for just about any occasion!

    Tips for making this card:

    • Emboss a smaller piece of cardstock (in this case 2-3/4”x 3-3/4”) with your favorite embossing folder.  I liked the Mosaic embossing folder because it was a simple repetitive design that felt elegant and gave the card some visual structure.) and then mat it on a 3”x4” piece of white cardstock.
    • Since everything is based in white, pick a contrasting ribbon to anchor your color.  I love Black & White and so this Black Chevron ribbon was just the thing!
    • Punch 6 Petite Petal flowers and crumple each one up into the smallest ball you can in your hand.  Don’t worry if the petals are smashed in all the wrong directions, that is good!  The important thing is getting them extra wrinkled and textured.
    • Adhere the flowers together using glue dots and add a rhinestone to the center for sparkle amongst the texture.
    • Need extra sparkle?  Add a strip of Dazzling Diamonds glitter paper for a mess-free glitz on your card.

You don’t need a lot of supplies to make a card that will wow them everytime. So, grab some paper and a flower punch, and have fun creating!

  • More Ideas for those Big Shot Bundles with the Fun n’ Crafty Blog Hop

Fun n Crafty Blog Hop badgeWelcome to the first Wednesday of the month… otherwise known and the super, awesome, and amazing Fun n’ Crafty Stampers blog hop!  Well, at least it is fun for us and inspiring to you hopefully. Smile

This month we are taking our cue from the Big Shot promotion going on this month and sharing with you some ideas for using this must-have tool, as well as give you some ideas for the bundles (including a holiday catalog sneak peek!) that you can get for FREE when you purchase a Big Shot this month.

But to get you started, here is my card for the hop today:

    Tips for this card

    • Pick a color palette and run with it!  In this case, I decided on Melon Mambo (pink) and Basic Black with a touch of Whisper White for a third color.  I find that the rule of threes seems to apply to colors on my cards too.  I try to pick 3 colors for each card and have a really good reason if I need to add more than that. Smile
    • Another fun function of your new Blendabilities, color over a mostly black image!  I stamped my image in Black & White, but thought it needed some color.  So I made sure I had inked using my Momento pad so that I could color over the outer edges with my Melon Mambo blendabilities.  I didn’t do any fancy shading, just different colors for different elements of the image.
    • I also noticed that the background pattern of the Umpteenth Birthday image from the Oh My Goodies stamp set matched the mosaic embossing folder and so that had to find it’s way into the card as well.

    • Don’t be afraid to pull things apart if it just isn’t working.  I stared at this card for about 15 minutes knowing it was probably good enough but just not happy with it.  I decided to be bold and us the vanilla smooch spritz but I over did it and so it just made the card worse.  So I pulled up the black paper and started over again.  Thankfully this time worked!

Like I mentioned, this stamp set and matching dies are part of the Stampin’ Up special this month and you can either get the bundle FREE when you puchase the Big Shot or choose to save by getting 15% off the bundle (prices listed below are after the discount.)Big Shot Bundles Flyer 2014

  • Chalkboard + Polaroid = Unexpectedly Cute Card!

Chalkboard + Polaroid = Unexpectedly Cute Card!

My brain has been filled with getting things ready for my Demonstrator Stamp & Share event I’m planning for Saturday (I’m super excited though – 4 hours of stamping, demonstrations, displays, and door prizes! How can that NOT be a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon? Smile )  But that means when it comes time to write a fun blog post for you all, my mind is a bit of a pile of mush.

So, I think today is going to be a bit short and sweet, but I made sure to share a card that I am totally in love with right now so at least the pretty eye candy will make up for the lack of writing!

My “Chalkboard technique meets Polaroid pictures” card:

I don’t know why this card just makes me happy when I look at it!

It all started with me wanting to do a Polaroid picture style image for a card.  And for some reason, I had in my head the chalkboard technique (where you heat emboss a sentiment in white on a piece of black cardstock and then sponge some extra white ink over the top to look like chalk dust) and so they just came together…. even though if you think about it, they don’t make any sense together at all!

But it is art, right?  There is no right or wrong here!

I also am loving the Petite Petals bundle I got recently and just had to use it again.  This time I spiced up the flowers with the little bitty flower from the Itty Bitty Shapes punch pack.  Add a silver mini brad to the middle and it is a whole new flower!

The card still needed a little bit of something extra, so I embossed the front of the card with the Mosaic embossing folder, rounded the corners, and then added some Gold bakers twine for the last little pizzazz I needed.

I may make simple cards, but sometimes they just come together and you don’t need all the extra fuss and muss!

This was my first time really going all out with the Strawberry Slush new In Color.  I was afraid I was going to be overwhelmed with pink, but I think it turned out more summery bright than eye-searing pink.  Do you agree?

And with the punch and embossing folder, this card comes together in a snap too which is always a bonus!

  • Using Punches to Create a Fun, Colorful Bookmark

Each year when the new Stampin’ Up! catalog comes out, they release the latest set of In Colors.  So, I usually figure that when I’m sending out my catalogs to customers that it would be nice for them to see what these new colors look like in person.  So I create a little bookmark to show off the different colors.

This is what I came up with for this year:

2013 In Color Bookmark with Mosaic Punch

I had just gotten the Mosaic Madness stamp set, Mosaic punch, and Mosaic embossing folder.  Plus of course the new In Colors:
Crisp Canteloupe, Coastal Cabana, Baked Brown Sugar, Pistachio Pudding, and Strawberry Slush.

Oh, and I had to throw in there the new core color – Smoky Slate as well. Smile  I mean, if you are going to play with some new products, why not jam as may new things as you can on your project!

And this is what it looks like when you are trying to mass produce 36 copies of a bookmark like this:

    2013 In Color Bookmark pieces

Let me just say that was A LOT of punching!

But I love how they turned out and if I end up with one left, I may just mount it on a card for another fun use of the bookmark.

Still need a new catalog?  Shoot me an email at jennifer@nwstamper.com or let me know with my catalog request form and I’ll get one in the mail to you right away!  Plus, you’ll get one of these cute bookmarks too!
