  • It’s a Love Thing! Inspire Create Share Blog Hop

Holy mackerel!  Valentine’s Day has snuck up on me and I can’t believe we are less than a couple weeks away!  Good thing is… there is still time to make your Valentine’s Day treats and cards.  And yes, there is still time to order those last minute supplies and get them in time to play before the holiday!  Smile  So, to get you all fired up and inspired for all the love-filled creations, I’m joining up with the Inspire, Create, & Share crew on a Blog Hop all about Love!

    12417846_10153838682348048_338791290049439201_n

I’m one of 14 stops on the hop, so if you are joining me from Darla’s blog, welcome!  I have a fun project to share today… a Valentine’s Treat Pouch I made as a bonus project for my Stamp Club.  It is fun to make and quicker than you might think!

Love Blossoms Envelope Punch Board Valentine Treat Bag

    Jennifer’s Project Tips:

    • It all starts with an adorable owl – The very first thing I designed for this project was the Owl.  If you haven’t used the Owl Builder punch before, you are missing out on so many cute projects!  From owls, to penguins, to reindeer, it is a super versatile punch!
But even when you are making a simple owl, don’t hesitate to dress her up!  I used the small flower flourish from the Bloomin’ Love stamp set and stamped it onto a scrap of Pink Pirouette cardstock before punching out the tummy for my owl.  It is like she is wearing a pretty dress!  Then punch out two of the hearts from the same punch and glue them together over her ear for instant bow.  BAM!  Cute or Super Cute??Valentine's Day Owl Builder Punch
    • Create a custom treat holder with the Envelope Punch Board – I was trying to decide what to put my owl on, when it hit me!  I could use the envelope punch board along with the cute Love Blossoms paper stack to quickly make the treat holders.
      –  Start with a 6×6 piece of patterned paper (good thing this paper pack comes as a 6×6 pack!)
      –  Use the envelope punch board to create an envelope. Start at the 2 5/8″ score line and score and punch as normal.on all sides (video tutorial for the punch board).
      –  fold in 3 of the sides but do NOT fold and press the 4th side.
      –  decorate to your heart’s content!
    • Have fun with layers!  I next created the sentiment – the banner stamp and the sentiment are both from the same Bloomin’ Love stamp set, but did you know? The banner has a matching framelit over in the Large Numbers framelit set!  Or trim by hand.  Either way works.  I stamped my banner first and THEN added my sentiment.  But then don’t stop there, add more layers!  Try wrapping the treat bag with the Watermelon Wonder satin ribbon and then layering your sentiment and the owl.
      – Want extra credit?  Keep it going!  Add a gold metallic doily to the front of the bag and adhere a 2 1/2” Crumb Cake cardstock circle for a shiny backdrop.Valentine's Day treat bag layers
    • But what adhesive to use for what?  I used a few different adhesives for this project so I thought you might like a quick guide for it:
      –  Holding together your treat bag = Fast Fuse, you want something stronger than your average tape to make sure your treat doesn’t come apart!
      –  Layering your Owl = 2-way glue pen, with all these small pieces you are trying to stick together, the glue pen is easy to handle and not messy with your little pieces
      –  Attaching your Owl = I used one Stampin’ Dimensional to keep her in place
      –  Everything else = viewers choice!  Though my preference is for SNAIL or Fast Fuse, basically some kind of tape runner

So I hope you enjoyed my project and found some new ideas for inspiration!  Click the next button below to see what Claudia has created for the blog hop!  The next in your 14 stop hop full of love!

Lots of great stuff including the Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine… it is great for subtle but pretty embellishing of your cards like I did in this one:

Get all the details on this card on the original blog post here

The envelope punch board… in addition of all the cool non-envelope projects, don’t forget it is perfect for those cards (or in this case a gift certificate holder) that don’t fit a custom envelope!

to fit this gift card holder:

Finally there is the Floral Frames framelits, which worked perfect with the now retired Daydream Medallions stamp set, but it also makes really pretty projects without needing stamps too!  Like this table decoration for everyone at my spring retreat (don’t forget! you can still register for the Fall crop weekend!)

So, hopefully that gives you a few ideas!

  • Festival of Trees–a Christmas Card and a Gift Certificate Holder

I thought I was done with my Christmas projects, but I found 4 more I wanted to share with you. Smile  I had been having fun the last week or so and thought I’d share them with you before Christmas is officially over!  Especially since some of the accents on the projects are part of the Year-End Clearance Sale!  Including:

    imageimageimage

#1 – Festival of Trees Gift Certificate Holder

Yes, there is still time to get a gift certificate if you need last minute stocking stuffer (just email me at jennifer@nwstamper.com).  It won’t come in the cute holder, but you could make your own if you are feeling crafty tonight!

I had to pull out a lot of my Holiday Catalog goodies because I had been neglecting some of them… like the Trim the Tree designer paper stack and this AWESOME Red Satin Woven Ribbon.  And of course there is the easy and funky Festival of Trees stamp set.

I mounted the trees on a Deco Label die cut that I popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals so I could slide the ribbon underneath to allow it to be opened and closed as necessary.  Then on the inside I added more trim for the gift certificate by adhering a strip of cardstock on the bottom of the inside to form a pocket and then used the matching Trim the Tree designer paper to accent it.  What a fun present!

And then, since this was an odd size (7” x 4”) I needed to figure out an envelope.  Then it hit me!  I have an Envelope Punch Board and can make my own custom envelope!  I reached for my Under the Tree specialty designer paper because it was made from Kraft cardstock and so it is heavier (ie – will hold up better in the mail) AND it is stiff enough that it helps smooth out the bumps to make sure bow and embellishments on the front of the holder don’t get caught up in the post office.   Plus it just looked cool. Smile

Under the Tree kraft envelope for gift certificate

Ok, then on to matching project #2

#2 –  Festival of Trees Christmas Card

I thought this coordinated so well, I’d share it today too.  This also uses the Festival of Trees stamp set but adds the sentiment from the Endless Wishes stamp set (sniff, sniff… so sad Endless Wishes didn’t make it onto the carry over list!  Love those snowflakes and sentiments!)

I really liked the color and weight of the Under the Tree specialty designer paper, it added to the vintage feel I was going for, so I used that for the Red and Kraft trees pattern paper in the background.  Then I was back with more sparkle paper for the front tree and then the little Christmas tree from the Clearance Rack Merry Minis Punch Pack.  It is just such a cute accent!  I even had to use it for the inside as well.

See the little green trees on the inside? Fun, right?

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas eve full of fun Family and holiday traditions – or at least good times remembering some special Holiday memories!

  • A Sweet Card with an Envelope Full of Butterflies

A Sweet Card with an Envelope Full of Butterflies

Happy Sunday to you!  Today I have one of those cards to share that is a little bit of this and a little bit of that from around your craft room.  But in the end doesn’t it turn out to be such a sweet card?

I had seen a photo of a card that had the idea of an envelope with lots of butterflies flying out from that and so I tried to capture that with the supplies I had at home.  So I started out with my Strawberry Slush cardbase and had to add a bit of texture and so I pulled out my much under-used embossing folder – the Fancy Fan embossing folder.  Then I layered on a strip of Smoky Slate cardstock edged with the Scallop Edge border punch and a piece of the Gingham Garden washi tape.  Again… why don’t I use washi tape more often??  It is so stinkin’ easy and so cute on your projects.

Finally, the center piece of the card!  I created my own envelope using one of the smallest dimensions on the Envelope Punch BoardSee?  It isn’t just for envelopes for your card!  Put your envelope together, punch out a variety of butterflies and glue them on to look like they are exploding out of the envelope.  Not hard to put together but think of how much of a smile this will bring to someone’s face when they get it from you!  Smile  See, I’m smiling just thinking of mailing it out.

    Have a wonderful Sunday!
