Easter Punch Art & Why You Should Buy the Clearance Easter Egg Dye Kits

Happy Easter!  I hope you have a wonderfully bright and peaceful day!  Today we’ll be hoping for sunny skies, family easter egg hunts, and spending time with our extended family in the area.

But while we are doing that, I wanted to share an idea with you to consider as you see the Easter supplies go on sale in the stores starting tomorrow (or maybe even today).  Consider grabbing those Easter Egg dying kits while they are on clearance, and here is why…

So, last night we pulled out our eggs and coloring kit to start dying some eggs.  I needed something to cover our counter…. turns out my used Stampin’ Up grid paper made a nice lining. Smile  (See there is a reason I don’t throw them away after classes!)

    2014-04-19 20.01.03

We made our eggs like normal… add 3 Tablespoons of Vinegar to a cup and drop the dye tablets in.  After they are done fizzing, add your 1/2 cup water to each cup.  Then dunk your eggs and let them soak and dye the shells.  I also couldn’t find the box the dye tablets came in, so I had to create my own egg holder!  I took a cereal box and kitchen scissors and cut 12 holes in the top of the box.  Then I could set each egg on top of a (poorly) cut hole to dry!

Now, this is the fun part!  Once you are done with your eggs, you still have lots of dye left over.  So I grabbed some of my ribbon from my craft room and started throwing them in the cups and letting them soak up the color!

In these cups, I have 4 pieces of the 7/8” Cotton Ribbon and 2 pieces of the White Organza Ribbon.

And this is how they turned out:

Pretty huh?  Now to create some fun projects with my custom colored ribbons! Smile

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend.  And a few quick reminders:

  • Beautiful Effects with Markers for an Easter Card

Beautiful Effects with Markers for an Easter Card

I had one more card to share with you this week from my Occasions Catalog swapl  This time it is a gorgeous card from Stacey Lane who never fails to stun me with her creations.  In this case, there are so many great touches but I was actually stuck admiring her awesome coloring of the tulips.

But first up, here is her card:

See, so much cute going on from the embossed cardstock to the hint of washi tape and just a few pearls for an elegant touch!

But like I mentioned before, check out the flowers!

I’ll admit, the reason I like stamping is because I’m not an artist that knows how to draw or paint.  But I can combine colored stamp images to make something cute.  However, I am going to have to give this two toned coloring a try!

I know once we get the Blendabilities alcohol markers, this will be piece of cake… but I realized that I can even do something like this with my markers or blender pens that I have now!

All you need to do is pick out 2 complimentary colors and start by coloring in the lighter color throughout the whole image.  Then use the darker color to highlight or shade parts of your image (in this case the bottoms of the tulips and some of the tips of the leaves).  Just a little goes a long way to an amazing effect.  Don’t you agree?

So, hopefully you’ve been enjoying the posts all week with some of the great inspiration from the Fun n’ Crafty gals!  I love seeing what they create and share each month and we would love to have you join us!  Don’t forget that during Sale-a-Bration, the Stampin’ Up! starter kit comes with a bonus of an EXTRA $25 in anything you want in the kit!  So, for only $99, you can pick out $150 in supplies to start creating with!  Whether you are looking for a great way to connect with others who love this hobby and get a discount on all your orders or would love to find a way to earn some extra money to support your habit or pay some bills, we’d love to have you join us!

  • A Sponged Easter Egg Card

Happy Easter weekend everyone!  I hope you have sunshine and wonderful events planned with family and friends this holiday weekend.  Today we are getting ready to go out for egg hunts and coloring some eggs at home with family.  But before we head out, I wanted to share the first eggs I colored this year…. for a card. 🙂

I had this idea to use sponging to create eggs for my card and so I grabbed my handy dandy Extra-Large Oval Punch.  Then I punched out an oval on scrap paper and pulled a pile of ink pads and sponges and got to work masking my Easter Eggs.  Of course, I made the eggs on a piece of scrap white paper and then had to design the card around the colored eggs. 🙂  But I added some paper for grass and then threw on some Early Espresso baker’s twine and the adorable Twitterpated buttons.

So, consider this my Easter card to you. 🙂  Have a great weekend!

  • Easter Bunny Punch Art Card

I finally participated in a sketch challenge, only to realize that I totally missed the deadline. :)  Oh, well.  I still LOVE my card I made.  I was so excited to be able to come up with a fun Easter card even though I had pretty much no Easter stamp sets.  What do you think?  Isn’t this bunny adorable?!

I made this card with my son in mind and had fun pulling papers, stamps, and punches to create an easy yet super fun Easter bunny card.  I had seen different cards out there using the Nursery Suite specialty designer paper for Easter because it has a couple patterns with bunnies on them. Let me tell you, that was one of those smacks to the forehead kind of moments! I was so fixated on this paper being “baby” paper that I didn’t even think about how it is so fabulous for so many other projects.  Just you watch, I’ll be pulling it out a lot more in the future.

Then I saw this punch art bunny on Jan Tink’s blog and knew I just HAD to make one myself!  So, I combined the paper, this bunny, and the Stamping 411 sketch from last week to make it.  So fun!

The bunny is made by punching 3 small ovals (one for the feet and two for the ears), one 1-1/4” circle for the body, one 1” circle for the head, and one small flower punch from the Punch Pack for the tail.

The ribbon is just a piece of Crumb Cake seam binding ribbon (have I told you how much the seam binding ribbon rocks?) that I folded in half and then knotted.

Make your own Easter bunny!  Get the supplies you need from the online store here, or grab the paper and punches you have and play around!  Have fun!

Don’t forget!  TODAY is the last day of my Tax-Free weekend!
