  • Vellum Fun with Everything Eleanor

How about a clean and simple card for today?  🙂  This is one of those cards that started out SUPER simple but I kept thinking it needed just a touch more here and touch more there until I made myself stop with this:

This card all started because I was going to CASE a card that used vellum over the Pleasant Poppies stamp set (which I didn’t have at the time).  So I grabbed Everything Eleanor and the card just started going in a wildly different direction from there.

But the highlight here was to stamp the flower head and stem using the NEW Firm Foam ink pads on Very Vanilla cardstock.  The new ink pads give such a strong and saturated image, that I liked using the vellum to soften the look.  Then I stamped the sentiment directly onto the vellum using Early Espresso ink (stamping it onto the vellum so you could actually read it easily!)

Then, I used sticky strip and some Gumball Green stitched satin ribbon to cover up where I attached the vellum to the Very Vanilla cardstock.  Plus a gold brad in the center of the flower to help keep the top part of the vellum secure.

And then, it is really hard to tell in the picture, but I also rounded the corners of the cardbase itself, sponged the edges with Crumb Cake ink, and then – when the cardbase was still too plain – I spritzed the cardstock using my Color Spritzer and the Crumb Cake marker.  I love how that combo makes for a soft speckled look, kind of like the “natural” cardstock you used to see.

So, as you can tell, it was a little bit here and a little bit there… but it was all fun and easy stuff to do and I hope you got some ideas too!

  • Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a Special for You!

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Hopefully today finds you in your finest green attire; even if that just means green inky fingers! 🙂  It’s a day that I mostly get to celebrate these days by digging some green out of my closet and remembering to listen to some great Irish music…or at least Irish singers.  Has anyone heard of the Irish Rovers?  They are a group that my parents used to listen to when I was growing up and I’m definitely feeling the need to see if I can find their album and play it around the house today.

I’m also feeling like sharing some green with you today as well!  I put together a card for you as well as I’m having a special all day today.

Every order of $25 or more today will receive a Stampin’ Write marker in the green of your choice

Fun, huh? 🙂  And after deciding to offer this special, I realized just how many green options there are right now in the Stampin’ Up! color palate:  Old Olive, Certainly Celery, Wild Wasabi, Always Artichoke, Garden Green, Pear Pizzazz, and Lucky Limeade.  So many great options for your projects that need a little green in them.  For my card today, I decided to go with Pear Pizzazz and Always Artichoke:

I don’t normally have much of a need to make St. Patrick’s Day cards or scrapbook pages, so I don’t tend to have themed crafting supplies on hand.  Luckily, it is easy to pull something together with punches and paper I had lying around!

I started out with the Paisley Petals designer series paper as the background and the Pear Pizzazz ribbon.  From there, I decided I would finish out the card in a monochromatic fashion, so I stuck to the greens in the paper and ribbon.

I love making clovers out of punched hearts… so easy and isn’t it just cute?  And I decided to pull out my Stampin’ Write markers and my handy dandy Color Spritzer and get even the white paper in theme with the card.  I spritzed the paper with my Always Artichoke marker for a spackled effect in the center of my card.

And to finish it all off, I grabbed one of my go-to stamp sets, Teeny Tiny Wishes, because it has a stamp for all holidays including St. Patrick’s Day!  Ta da!

So, I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy all the green on display today!

  • Quick and Easy – Yet Cute! – Holiday Cards

Last Saturday was my latest holiday Stamp-a-Stack.  Since I had a few folks who had been to my first class, I decided to shake things up and play with some new products and designs.  Turns out, I love these cards and had so much fun sharing them with my ladies.  So I thought I would share a couple of the cards with you today.  I’ll be posting the other two cards we made here this week and would love for you to stop back by and let me know what you think!

    A Cute Christmas

If you follow me on Facebook, you’ve already seen this card since I posted it as a sneak peek on Saturday.  I originally created this card because I wanted to show off the cute glitter paper in the Candy Cane designer paper pack.  I thought that the stripes were a little much for me and since I didn’t know what I was going to do with the paper, I’d find a way to use it up for this class.  I also wanted a fast and easy card since I knew my designer fabric card was going to take some time.  Well, turns out I love how bright and cheery this card is and I love the stripes!  Guess I’ll be using this paper more than I thought. 🙂

Ink:  Night of Navy Classic ink, Real Red marker, Blushing Bride marker, Wild Wasabi marker, Baja Breee marker
Paper:  Whisper White CS, Real Red CS, Candy Cane designer paper

    Joyful Season Letterpress Card

This next card was an excuse to use the Letterpress plates.  One of my ladies had been curious about the Letterpress plates and so I thought I would give everyone a chance to try them out.

We used Craft Ink on textured Whisper White paper for the debossed image.  Then we spritzed the paper with Crumb Cake using the Color Spritzer tool.  If you haven’t used the Color Spritzer, it is a neat way to add splatters and spritzes of color on your paper.  I swear I feel like a wild and crazy artist when I stand over my paper and start squeezing this air gun all over the place. 🙂

joyful season card sm If you aren’t familiar with the letterpress dies, the way they work is that you ink up the raised image on the plastic plate using your ink pads (I personally love using the Craft Ink Spots).  Place your paper over the inked image, and run it all through your BigShot or other die cutting machine.  Your image is impressed into the paper and the ink is left behind in that impressed image.  Here is my attempt at taking a photo close up to show you what I mean.

joyful season close up sm Recipe:
    Ink:
Always Artichoke Craft ink, Bravo Burgundy Craft Ink, Crumb Cake marker
Paper:  Baroque Burgundy CS, Textured Whisper White CS
Accessories:  Joyful Season letterpress plate, BigShot, Corner Rounder punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Color Spritzer

  • Tons of Tools Card and Embellished Envelope

Sunday was this month’s Technique Night with my meetup group and by request, I did a night that was focused on going over many of the tools you might encounter on your crafting journey including:

    • The BigShot
    • Aqua and Blender pens for water coloring
    • Crimpers
    • Bone Folders
    • Paper Piercing tools
    • Heat and Dry Embossing
    • the Crop-a-Dile for eyelet setting and hole punching
    • the Stamp-a-ma-jig for exact stamp image placement
    • Color spritzers
    • And paper punches

So, we ended up using all of these tools on the following two projects.

First we used a Whisper White envelope (since it uses the same type of paper as Whisper White CS, these envelopes take ink and stamping really well!) Trim off 1 1/4” from one of the short sides of the envelope.  Then we used the scallop edge punch on the smaller piece.  For the larger piece, we stamped and used the color spritzer to scatter Soft Suede ink on both sides of the envelope.  Then we ran the big piece through the crimperWatercolor the stamped image using the covers of classic ink pads and a watercolor pen, add a punched out scallop square, and adhere and you are pretty much done.  We punched two holes through both the top and bottom pieces of the envelope so we could run ribbon through to tie the envelope closed.

    Next we made this card:

This card used the BigShot for making the dots on the white paper.  Then we used the brayer to lightly go over the dots to give them some color.  We did dry embossing on the Rich Razzleberry CS using some holes I punched out some Chipboard with the Simple Alphabet Dies for the BigShot.  We stamped the flower image from the Vintage Vogue stamp set, used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to place the text below the flower and then heat embossed using black embossing powder (don’t forget to use the embossing buddy to ensure you don’t get stray embossing powder flecks!).  Used the crop-a-dile to set the jumbo eyelet; and then finally used the super, awesome mat pack and paper piercer to punch the row of holes below the Rich Razzleberry CS.  Oh, and we used the bone folder and the groove in the paper cutter to score the card so we had a nice crisp fold.

Whew!  That’s a lot of tools, but it was lots of fun.

If you are interested in any of the tools used for these projects, you can get them now through my online store .  Plus –  if your total is $25 or more you will be entered into my drawing for a $50 gift certificate!

My favorite tools are the BigShot and the Mat Pack.  What are yours?
