Last night I started playing with my word window punch some more and one of the ideas I had was to create a flower using punches. This quickly turned into a card challenge to myself to see if I could make an interesting card that was almost entirely based on punches instead of stamps. It was a fun experiment and helped me brainstorm a ton of new ways to use punches (though most of those uses didn’t look so good when all smooshed together on one card). In the end, I used two stamps though if I had thought to use rub-ons for the sentiment and designer paper for the background, I think I could have gotten away with none. 🙂
To make this card, I used 5 different punches. The card is actually very quick to put together because most of it is just punching and glueing paper.
Recipe
Stamps: Pretty Petals background stamp, Sock Monkey
Inks: Pink Pirouette, Pixie Pink, Garden Green
Paper: Pink Pirouette cardstock, Garden Green cardstock, Whisper White cardstock
Accessories: word window punch, small oval punch, five petal punch, trio flower punch, ticket punch, gold brad
How to make the Punch Flower card:
1. Punch out the stem using green paper (I used Garden Green) and the word window punch
2. Punch out the leaf using green paper and the small oval punch
3. Fold the oval in half and run through a crimper to add the lines.
4. Trim the end of the oval to make it look more leaf-like
5. Punch out the flower head using pink paper (I used Pink Pirouette) and the five petal punch. You’ll want two punches worth.
6. Punch out the small flower center in pink using the three flower punch
7. I used pink pirouette paper for my flower head, and then using a sponge or your inkpad directly, edge the 3 flower punch outs with Pink Pirouette ink
8. Punch a hole in the center of your 3 flower punches (I used a crop-a-dile but any hole puncher or piercer will work). Then place a gold brad through all 3 papers. Offset the five petal flowers to make your flower look more full.
9. I used whisper white paper with pink pirouette paper for matting, and punch all corners out with the ticket punch.
10. To add some color to the white paper, I dabbed a cotton ball on my Pink Pirouette ink pad and gently wiped it around on my white paper. I did the same technique using Garden Green ink along the bottom edge of the paper to look like grass.
11. Using the Pretty Petals background stamp, I stamped the background design on whisper white cardstock for my card base
12. Stamp your sentiment (I used the text from Sock Monkey) on Pink Pirouette paper using Pixie Pink ink. Then punch it out using the word window punch.
13. Using a sponge or the ink pad directly, edge the word window punch-out with Pink Pirouette.
14. Glue it all down and you have a card!
