If you are in the Portland area and want to come play…
Just thought I would invite you all to come to some of my upcoming classes if you are in or from the Portland,OR area.
Its a Card Party! – January 17th at 2pm
The hubby will be out of town, so it seems like a perfect time to host a get together. We will be making 3-4 cards and a container to hold them. Each card will be different and good general purpose cards to use throughout the year (birthday, thank you, etc). Since I have all day, you are welcome to stay later and use my punches, stamps, and ink for any of your personal projects. Cost $10

Technique Night- January 22nd at 7pm
With the holidays and everyone traveling, we didn’t have a technique night early in January, so I’m holding a make-up session late this month. Plus, the new Spring and Summer Idea book is coming out on January 19th, so you will get to see and play with some of the new items. We will be using Crystal Effects (a glossy lacquer) and making a couple small projects/embellishments to see some different ways to use it for both scrapbooking and card making. Cost $5

Open Scrap – February 7th at 1pm
I’m so behind on my scrapbooking projects that I’m going to have a day of just an open table to come, bring your project, and feel free to use my inks, stamps, and punches. Those of you interested in scrapbooking, I will have a 2 page layout project available. So, come and hang out for a laid back afternoon. 🙂

Finally able to post pictures
So, while away on my trip, I tried posting the pictures from last week. Unfortunately, my internet connection was apparently not good enough to make that happen, so I wanted to get out a quick post this morning.
Like I said last week, we had a great time getting ready for the holidays by making gift packaging. I posted most of the items we made, but I didn’t get a chance to post the final two items.
This bag was one I first saw my mom do and I thought it would be perfect for holding gift cards. It is super simple to do; so I thought it would be a good addition to the class. All you do to make it is cut a piece of 3×6.5″ cardstock, scoring at 5″. Use the scallop punch to edge of the flap of the main cardstock. Using sticky tape, adhere a 3×5″ cello bag to the 3×5 section of cardstock. Punch holes through the main cardstock and cello bag (one on each side) about halfway between the 5″ score line and the end of the flap – don’t punch through the flap itself. Run ribbon from the back of the holder, through the holes, and then use to tie the flap down.
Then, while waiting for the ladies to show, I decided I wanted to play with my new designer label punch and some hardware from the Hodgepodge Hardware kit. So, I created a box with a band that would hold a designer label hardware piece. Since it was based on the pizza box style boxes, it was super fast. I just wish I had stamped the main cardstock instead of just the band.

Rescheduled! Holiday Gift Bags, Boxes, and Tags class
So Sunday afternoon, we were planning on having a Holiday Gift boxes, bags, and tags workshop. However, due to some illnesses during the week we ended up doing some open craft time and rescheduling the actual class.
It looks like the new tentative class date is the evening of Tuesday, Dec 9th (same day as the retired stamp list is announced). So, if you were interested in coming but couldn’t make it on Sunday, drop me a line and join us for the newly scheduled class! We’ll be making this cute little bag as one of our projects!

A DVD holiday gift box
Last night my DH was on the phone much of the evening so I had some free time to experiment with some more gift boxes. The first box I designed to be exactly the right size for a DVD or video game (its 8″x5.5″x1.5″). The sides reach all the way to the bottom of the box. Since I was playing with the dimensions, I grabbed a sheet of Ghostly Greetings designer paper thinking the green would be passable as a holiday print. The one thing I forgot – when someone pull off the lid, they get to see the underside of the designer paper, which in this case is black and white skulls!! Oops 🙂

Inks: Encore Gold
Paper: Ghostly Greetings DSP, Basic Grey CS (for the bottom)
Accessories: Alpine Ribbon, Silver elastic cord, Circle Scallop Punch

Making Holiday Boxes, Bags, and Tag
So, tomorrow afternoon I have a workshop for making holiday boxes, bags, and gift tags. (Email me if you would like to join us, we’d love to have you!)We’ll be making some of each and like usual, it should be a good time. I wanted to get at least one sample up online ahead of time and so I got pictures of one of the bags taken this evening to share. I may still tweak the design but at least you can get the idea. This is a quick and easy design, and since I use velcro to close the bag it is totally reusable! 🙂

Short pause in posts
Hi all, I just wanted to put up a quick post since I’m being a bit slow this week. Earlier this weekend I must have hurt a back muscle as I haven’t been very mobile the last couple days. I went to the dr this evening and was given prescriptions for some meds which may make me loopy for a couple days. End result – I’m going to try to get some posts together, but I might be a bit slow over the next couple days. I plan to be back this weekend though. I have to get my samples all ready for my next class this sunday!
And in case you are interested in joining us – I’m hosting a Gift Bags, Boxes, and Tags workshop on Sunday, Dec 7th at my home. We will be making a couple different style boxes and bags, and you will take home a stack of gift tags. It should be lots of fun and totally useful! If you are not in the area or can’t make it, I will be offering completed kits which I can ship to you. Email me if you are interested in attending or being sent a completed kit.

November’s Technique Tuesday is Heat Embossing!
Every first tuesday of the month I offer a technique class to give you a chance to try new things and learn more about some of the techniques you have seen in pictures or on samples. This month we will be trying out heat embossing.
With embossing, there are two methods – dry embossing and heat embossing.
- With dry embossing, you use some type of metal or plastic template with holes cut out. You place your paper over the template and then use a ball-tipped stylus to press your paper into the holes, creating a raised image in the shape of the template.
- With heat embossing, you stamp an image and then sprinkle the wet image with embossing powder. The embossing powder sticks to the wet ink and when you apply heat with a heat gun, melts into a raised image in the shape of the stamped image.
There are a few different ways you can use heat embossing, whether to create an elegant shape like what is commonly done for wedding invitations or to act as a color resist when adding more stamps or ink to your paper. Stamp-a-stack door prize!
So, tonight is part 2 of our holiday stamp-a-stack. It should be a laid back evening where folks can leisurely finish up their cards and have the chance to play with any of my supplies. Tonight is also when I hand out the door prize! The door prize for tonight is a box to hold all of the cards and envelopes we made! I was taking a guess on some of the measurements but after I had it complete it looks like it is exactly the right size! I made it more generic so it is useful not only for the holiday cards but to also store any cards made in the future. So, without further ado, here is the prize:

This box is 4.5″ wide x 6″ long x 3″ tall. It takes two 12×12 sheets of paper to make plus any accessories you want to make it look neat. In my case, I used ribbon, dazzling diamonds giltter, the enjoy every moment stamp set, and the BigShot with the TopNote die. If you are interested in the template to make this, leave me a note and I’ll get it posted. 🙂

Holiday Stamp-a-Stack Sneak Peak – Part 2
I told you I had more sketches than necessarily for the Holiday Stamp-a-Stack this Saturday but I decided to make them up anyway. Unfortunately I spent way to much time last night trying to figure out how to make one of my sketches work (it never did end up working) so I only got through four more cards. However, I think I’ve made up some cool designs so between yesterday’s cards and today’s cards I think I will have my 5 cards picked out.
Here is what I made last night:

Some notes about the cards. The snowman card has the front punch through to the inside where the snowman stamp is glued down. And the trees in the Seasons Greetings card are glittery (I thought it made a fun winter wonderland motif 🙂 )

Sneak Peek at the Holiday Stamp-a-Stack
So, Saturday is the holiday stamp-a-stack and I have been working on creating samples for some of my sketches. Last night, I was planning on getting them all done, but then I remembered I needed to finish glueing together the cardfronts for a card swap I’m in, so while I got all 11 of those cards done, I only got 3.5 cards done for the workshop on Saturday.
There is still room in the group on Saturday, let me know if you would like to join us. I will also make card kits available if you cannot attend in person but want the supplies to make them on your own. Cost for the kits is the same as the class – you get all envelopes, precut supplies, and instructions for creating all the cards plus free shipping!
I’m still finalizing the set of cards we will be making but here are 3 very likely candidates.
