Gorgeous Farewell to Four Feathers with a Maritime Thank You Card by Pamela Wu
Remember the other day when I said I really liked the Maritime designer paper? Here is another example of why you should too.

Tips for making this card:
- The Four Feathers stamp set is a carryover set that does not appear in the new catalog, so it looks like June 2nd will be your last chance to get it. Save 15% by getting the matching framelits and stamps in a bundle! Its only $20 for clearmount rubber stamps and dies!
- Add some pizzazz to your feathers by using the Rock n’ Roll technique. Ink up your stamp with Pool Party ink and then gently roll the stamp in a circle on a Night of Navy ink pad to just get the edges of your image inked up in the darker color.
  Doesn’t it look awesome here:
- With the A Happy Hooray stamp set, you get another feather design (though it doesn’t quite match the framelits) along with some sentiments that match your punches. In this case, the thanks matches the 1-3/8” circle punch! Layer it with the 1-3/4” circle punch for a great look.
- I LOVE how she added the mini brads to the lines in the thanks. Honestly, I think that is my favorite touch.

Scrapbook Sunday: Going Vintage Sweet for a Baby Girl Layout with Kinda Eclectic
I’m back with another Scrapbook Sunday project share for you. I put together this layout for the Stampin’ Up convention display boards last year and it was the project that I was most sad about not being able to get back! I think it is one of my favorite layouts in a long time –and I even came up with it all by myself!
Now, I normally scrapbook in 12×12 sizes but I decided to try something different and go for an 8-1/2” x 11” layout. Turns out it is a great size if you have a 4”x6” photo that you want to highlight. Plus the smaller size means you can add a few touches and fill up the space more quickly so you can move on to your next set of photos. I’m sure I’ll still do lots of 12×12 pages still, but I may have to mix in more of these smaller layouts too.
Embellishing Ideas for your Scrapbook Page:
- Grab a nice multipurpose stamp set – like in this case, the Kinda Eclectic stamp set – and use it to accessorize your page and POP your photo. I used the sunburst behind one corner and the vintage dots under the opposite corner.
- To add extra sparkle (or to cover up an imperfectly stamped circle ) Use the In Color sequins as dots in your stamped area.
- and yes, that title is stamped as well using the Skinny Mini alphabet stamps.
- In sticking with my vintage feel, I layered stamped images and accessories for a cluster (clustering is a great way to add some dimension and wow to your pages). I have Burlap ribbon, stamped and fussy cut leaves, a vintage button, stamped and punched butterfly, and a sequin with a mini-brad through the middle all layered together.
- You will notice the two-tone look to the leaves and butterfly… that is because I used the Rock n’ Roll technique to ink them. Ink the stamp with one color (usually the lighter color) and then roll the edges of the stamped image in a darker color ink BEFORE you stamp.
- I didn’t want to leave the upper corner blank, so I stamped with a very light color some extra butterflies so there was subtle balance. It’s kind of like making your own background paper!

Fun Fall Cards with the Rock n’ Roll Technique
Sometimes you have to go back to those techniques have been been around forever… in this case, I created a card to share with my Stamp Club folks using the Rock n’ Roll technique.
I combined a few of my favorite fall items – like the Autumn Wood Elements and the Fall Fest stamp and framelit bundle. It was a way to use those fall stamps and accents for a card that isn’t necessarily fall specific.
And of course there is the Rock n’ Roll technique which we used on the pumpkin here –
How to do the Rock n’ Roll Technique:
1. You want to start with a solid image – in this case, the pumpkin – and ink it up with your lighter ink color. You want to start with your lighter color, both for the look of the end result stamped image, and because you don’t want to get dark ink all over you lovely light ink pad!
2. Before you stamp the image, grab a darker complimentary color ink and “roll” the stamp with the lighter ink around on the ink pad. Basically, tilt your stamped image so that it is at a 45 degree angle (think a car up on two wheels like it is driving on a curb) and then roll so you are only touching the outer edge of your stamp to the darker ink pad.
3. The more flat you hold your stamp when you roll, the less of the light color you will see.
4. NOW stamp your image on your paper!
You should get a lighter color in the middle and the darker color around the edges. Easy Peasy!
Now, I’ll admit, this is the card we made in Stamp Club, but this is the card I originally made and had planned to use for the class (I just managed to lose the stamp set at the time and so couldn’t bring it to class! Darn craft room, eating my supplies!)
It is almost exactly the same, except that I used the For all Things stamp set instead. I love how that leaf looks with this technique, don’t you? I used the Hello Honey ink pad and edged with Cajun Craze for the pretty fall colors.

Rock and Roll Swap Card
So, if you’ve never been to a Stampin’ Up! event, let me fill you in on an addicting activity that usually happens called “swapping”. See, the first couple of times I went to a regional event or convention, I was told to bring some card fronts to trade with other demos…so I’d bring like 20…. or fewer. Then I would get there and see so many amazing cards that I so desperately wanted to take home and drool over and I quickly learned that 20 was definitely NOT enough!
So, this year I made around 80 swaps for convention – 40 of two different designs. Today I thought I’d share one of my swaps:
Ever since I saw the Love and Care hostess stamp set in the Summer Mini, I knew the big flower would be perfect for the “Rock and Roll” technique. So, I decided to play with that for my swap.
The center flower paper is all hand-stamped. To make the More Mustard/Bravo Burgundy flowers, I first inked up the flower with More Mustard. Then before I stamped, I took the stamp and rolled the edges around on the Bravo Burgundy ink pad. Then I stamped my image onto my paper. So, it took a bit of time, but it gives you a fun effect, don’t you think? Then just stamp the rest of your flowers like normal and you’re done!
