  • Sale-a-Bration Send Off: Vintage Verses

Ack!  Can you believe TOMORROW is the LAST DAY for Sale-a-Bration?!  I swear I always find my groove and my love of a stamp or scrapping product right before they are discontinued or become hard to get!  Turns out this is one of those sets.

Yup, I’m talking about Vintage Verses

    Vintage Verses stamp set

You see, I had grand ideas for this stamp set…. oh the projects I was going to make with it.  The cool techniques that would be perfect to use with these stamps.

And then life got in the way.

So that brings us to now when I pulled out the stamp set again for one last hurrah before the stamp set goes away for good and turns out it is awesome!

My favorite sentiment is the “There’s Only One You” which I LOVE for scrapbooking.  If you saw my Sunburst Scrapbook Layout then you may have noticed I used this sentiment as the title for that page.  But here are some other ideas you can try with this set:

I just had to try out the Chalkboard Technique with this stamp… anyone interested in a video on this technique?

I received this Butterfly Thanks card from my awesome friend and downline, Pam Wu, which in turn inspired my trying out coloring in the letters of the Thanks in my cards I’m sending out for orders placed this month:

This last card using the Spec-tacular Single Stamp that I thought was the coolest stamp.  I was going to do a whole blog post on it and this card but I wanted to share how cool it goes with the Vintage Verses sentiment so I’ll just have to do another card with this stamp later.  (And just a heads up – the glasses single stamp is only available through 3/31)  So, if you love it, grab it now!

I seriously can’t pick a favorite from these cards and sentiments…. too much fun!  If you had to pick which is your favorite?  Leave me a comment and let me know and you’ll be entered into the drawing for this weeks blog candy.

And stop back by tomorrow for my last Sale-a-Bration Send Off!  I’ll be focusing on Pretty Petites for our let set of shares.  Smile

  • Scrapbooking Sunday: Using Stamps as Accents on a Baby Page!

I know it is St. Patrick’s Day and so I should be posting something green, but I finished this scrapbook page for my daughter and just had to share it with everyone for this week’s Scrapbooking Sunday!  So, you can virtually pinch me but I hope you enjoy the ideas for this weeks layout.

I’ve been trying to get through some of the recent backlog of photos I printed opportunistically and then never got scrapped.  Smile  This is one of the photos from right before we left the hospital after she was born.  I may not look my best, but it is one of the few pictures of I have of her and me and so I’ll love it no matter how I look.

This whole layout actually started with me wanting to use the elephant from the Patterned Occasions stamp set exclusively available during Sale-a-Bration but to use it for a baby scrapbook page.  So I grabbed my Pink Pirouette marker and started coloring the elephant and making an elephant parade.

One thing I noticed is that the markers are so juicy and the pattern of the elephant is so intricate that extra ink gets caught in the spaces so it wasn’t as crisp of an image.  But I didn’t care and couldn’t be bothered to try again using a post-it note to mask the stamp itself.

But then I tried again using a mix of colors for one more fun elephant accent.  This time I left the flower in the image and cut it all out.  I accented it with a 1 1/4” scallop circle punched out of Pink Pirouette cardstock.

Finally, I needed a little more something at the top of my page and my Hearts a Flutter stamp set and framelits was exactly what I needed.  I just adhered my baker’s twine across the top of the page and tucked my banners under the twine where I wanted them.

I even like the Summer Starfruit designer paper from the Sale-a-Bration flyer (Sycamore Street designer paper) as my background even though initially I was not a fan at all of this pattern. Smile

Don’t Miss the Start of Sale-a-Bration Send Off Week! Giveaways and more!

  • Feels Good Masculine Card with Sycamore Street

Who is with me that it is easy to make a “girly” card but hard to come up with a “guy” card?

I know I’m not the only one and so for a recent card class I decided to show how you could use some of the items from the Spring catalog and Sale-a-Bration flyer to make a masculine card.  And YES you CAN use ribbon for a guy!  See:

I used the Sycamore Street designer paper to make simple blocks for my base design.

Tip: Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop up your designer paper blocks for extra impact.

Then for the sentiment I grabbed my new Feels Good stamp set and then roughed up the edges of the stamped image and the Baja Breeze mat.  Because rough edges are manly, right?  Smile

Then it still needed something so I grabbed a button and some ribbon for a little bit of flair.  No bows, so I was still doing ok!

Now I’ll admit, the first version of this card actually used the Silver Designer Buttons and the Natural Trim ribbon from the Spring catalog and I kind of like them better.

    What do you think?

And of course, finish it up with a matching envelope by adding a little strip of coordinating designer paper to the bottom of the front of your envelope.  And ta da, you are done!

So what do you think?  Does this count as a masculine card or just not a girly card?  Smile

Hop on over to my facebook page and let me know what you consider traits of a masculine card.  I’ll take the ideas as a challenge to come up with more fun masculine cards to share in the next few weeks!

  • Fun with Texture Thank You Card

As I was playing with ideas for thank you cards for February, I decided to get inspired by the Sycamore Street designer paper from the Sale-a-Bration flyer for my colors and then start adding texture as I went along.

The most obvious bit of texture was my chevron embossing folder that I used on the top half of the card.  Then I added some ribbon to get something different from paper in the lower half of the card.  And then my favorite – heat embossing!

I inked up my Thanks sentiment from the Vintage Verses stamp set with Versamark, and then before stamping I inked it up again with Rich Razzleberry ink.  Then, stamp, cover in clear embossing powder right away, and apply heat with your heat gun.  Ta da!  Embossed ink in whatever color you want!

  • Bloomin’ Marvelous Embossed Treat Box

When I accidentally ordered 3 packs of the Kraft Treat Boxes because I thought you were getting one for the $2.95 not 4 boxes for the $2.95, I was initially bummed to have so many boxes; but now I’m almost out and have been loving experimenting with them!  This was my first time trying out embossing and die cutting the boxes but I just LOVE how it turned out.  What do you think?

I started out by grabbing my Window Frames framelits and cutting a hole in the top flap.  I will admit, it took some playing with which tabs to use and how to fold the box so that it would fit through the Big Shot.  In the end, I think I flipped over the first tab so only one tab on the white Multi-purpose Platform was being used.

Once I got it cut out, then I went back with my polka dot embossing folder and embossed just the top flap.  Again, it look a little manipulation and I think an extra tab on the platform being flipped out, but it eventually worked!

Then I just glued a piece of the Sycamore Street designer paper that I got free as part of the Sale-a-Bration promotion behind the hole for a pop of color.  I punched out the sentiment from the Bloomin’ Marvelous Sale-a-Bration stamp set and then added some flowers I created using the Boho Blossom punch.

Finally I finished it off with a band of the Sycamore Street designer paper (in one of the other patterns) to tie in the colors from the top to the side of the box.

Now it is the perfect gift to fill with treats and give to the next person who hosts a private class with me! Smile

I still have a couple dates left for the Sale-a-Bration promotion period, so contact me at jennifer@nwstamper.com if you want to have a fun night out crafting with some of your friends.  I bring the projects, you all just show up and have a great time!

  • Sycamore St Scrapbook Layout: Great Grandparents

Some incredibly talented girls I know started a paper crafting challenge blog a year ago called The Paper Girls Challenge Blog.  They post challenges twice a month for fun and (sometimes) prizes.

Well, I was so honored to be asked by them to be one of two guest designers this month – so I totally know what cool challenge is coming up later this month… and no, I’m not going to tell you.  hee hee!

Anyway, today is their first challenge for February and it was:
    Use Twine in Your Project!

    Ta da!

Now, their challenge doesn’t have to be for a scrapbook layout – I could have done a card.  But I do cards all the time and I figured I needed the extra challenge. Smile

So, I decided to show some quick and easy ways to use twine.  I grabbed my Island Indigo Baker’s Twine and wrapped some around all four sides of an 8.5” x 8.5” piece of River Rock cardstock.  Then I tucked some pictures under the twine – I was going for the “memo board” look.  So parts of the pictures are over the twine and some are under.

Thanks to my amazing foresight, I made sure to dress my daughter in a brightly striped shirt so that it would match great with the new Sycamore St designer paper that you can get free from the Sale-a-Bration catalog.  Ok, so this picture was from May 2012 and I totally lucked out, but I’ll take it!

I also wrapped some twine around the “G” in “Great” at the top of the page, but of course realized late last night that the top of the picture is a bit blurry.  Oops!  So, trust me, it is wrapped around the “G” and looks cute.

TIP:  If you have alphabet letters that you think are starting to blend into the background of your page like mine were.  Grab a marker (in this case, my Island Indigo Stampin’ Write marker) and with the fine tip, trace around the letter on your page.  It gives the letters a subtle border that really helps it pop!

Think you have a cool idea for using twine or just want to try to use the twine you have sitting at home?  Visit The Paper Girls Challenge Blog to see more inspiring ideas and then create your own project and add it to the challenge list.  I’d love to see what different ideas you create!

  • Size Doesn’t Always Matter!

It is easy for me to make my cards to the standard card base size; sometimes mixing it up with a square 4 1/4” x 4 1/4”.   But usually sticking with my basic because it is so efficient with cardstock.
(for me, a standard card base is 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” – if a visual helps, I have a post on cutting a standard card base here)

Well, sometimes, I have a vision of a card in my head and as I create it I discover that it totally does NOT fit the standard size.  But when I finish, I realize that it may be an odd size, but it works!

I started with the little elephant from the Cross My Heart stamp set and was drawn to the new Sycamore St designer paper from the Sale-a-Bration flyer.  So, I grabbed some punches and got to work.

I saw a card created by Amy Barnes that used the mini brads in the center of the Petite Curly Label punch and loved the look, so I knew I needed to incorporate that as well.  Then add some varying dimension with Stampin’ Dimensionals and glue dots and I had a row of patterns and shapes as my focal point.

But in the end, I needed the background strip to be narrower to make it look right.  And then the base needed to be narrower to balance it out.  So, the end result was something like 3 1/2” x 5 1/2”.  I finished it with a sentiment from my new favorite stamp set – Oh, Hello.  So, it may be an odd shape, but that is OK by me!
