    Gratitude Month–Thank You Card using Kinda Eclectic and In Colors

    Happy November!  As I mentioned yesterday, I’m kicking off my Month of Gratitude with a free gift for you and a project tutorial.  Today I’m sharing a card I created as a different way to use your Kinda Eclectic stamp set and have a neat thank you card that you can use for guys, girls, and any time of the year.

    Project Tips:

    • Stick with a color family or In Color set (in this case the Stampin’ Up 2014-2016 In Colors) to make your background and for complimentary cardstock colors.  This gives you a variety of colors but you know the tones will work together no matter how wild you get with you stamping.
    • Use the starburst stamp from Kinda Eclectic to make a great background layer to your cards or projects.
    • Use the starburst framelits to cut out on of the stamped starbursts and do it off center.  This makes it more visually interesting, especially when you add an accent like the wooded elements.
    • When stamping on wooden pieces, use STAZON ink to prevent yucky bleeding and fuzzing of the ink.

  • Happy Halloween 2014

    Boo to you!

    It is Halloween today which means lots of fun little goblins, monsters… or Queen Elsa and Anna… will be out roaming the malls, neighborhoods, and stores today.  I have to admit, I love answering the door for trick or treaters and seeing all the super fun and adorable costumes.  Though, to be honest, I also love spending Halloween in Las Vegas when Halloween falls on a Friday or Saturday.  Let me tell you, you see the BEST costumes around the casinos in Vegas.  But, given that I have two little ones right now, I’ll save Vegas for a few years and enjoy the cutesy fun of the holiday.  I mean, how is this not so much fun??

    Nicholas is Wolverine this year (he loves superheros) and Caitlin is a cowgirl… or as she calls it Cowboy Girl.

    And speaking of cutesy fun!  Check out this cards, just for you for Halloween!

    This was another of my Fall Fest cards and when the girls over at Stylin Stampin’ Inkspiration were putting together a Halloween post full of fun Halloween card ideas, I just had to add this one to the mix.  It is fun and easy to do, but I found a few tips along the way when creating it.

    Project Tips & Tricks

    • The photopolymer stamps, for some reason, do not seem to take coloring by marker when they are brand new.  I tried with these pumpkins and it was yuck!  However, if you ink up the stamps with your ink pad and then clean them off, suddenly the marker holds a lot better!  I’m not sure why it works but it did for me.
    • Using markers will work on these stamps, but if you want a darker color, use a post-it note to cover the stems of the pumpkins while you ink them up with Tangelo Twist ink and then ink the stems with your Mossy Meadow ink.  The nice thing is that since the stamps are totally clear, you can set your ink pad down on the table and tap the stamp into the ink pad and still see what you are doing!  Yay!
    • Make a fun spooky background to your card by stamping just the jack-o-lantern faces on the white cardbase or a white piece of paper for a neat alternative to polka dots or other pattern.
    • Add a little sponging with a sponge dauber and Hello Honey ink to give your card a little glow.

    So, I know Halloween is tomorrow, but I had a few more not-so-spooky cards that I wanted to share to help get us in the mood.  (Because I know the stores are already switching over to Christmas mode, so we have to help each other keep the Halloween fun going until tomorrow night, right? Smile)

    This was the card I created for my Fun n’ Crafty stampers Stamp & Share event I ran earlier this fall.  The Stamp & Share is our event we hold a few times a year to come together and share ideas, new stamping techniques, business tips, and of course, stamp together!  So much fun!  Anyway, I wanted to use the Fall Fest stamp set and framelits for our make & takes and so I knew I wanted to do something with that adorable ghost.

    Tips for making this card:

    • Turns out, he looks AWESOME when you stamp the ghost with versamark onto Basic Black cardstock and then heat emboss with white embossing powder!  Then just die cut out your ghost and he is perfect! 
    • Added some of the same ghost stamped in Smoky Slate onto the Lost Lagoon cardstock for his fellow ghost buddies.
    • Use the Holiday Invitation stamp set for those cute bats and the Be Scary sentiment for a finishing touch
    • Save with bundles!  This card uses a lot of the new 2014 in Color cardstock – get a little bit of all the colors without breaking the bank in the Family Pack of cardstock – or get the In Color ink pads and get the cardstock free with the In Color bundle!  Plus save 15% on the Fall Fest stamp set and framelits when you buy them at the same time in their bundle too!

    Now, I thought I’d also share a card that was my first attempt at this general card idea.  I decided it didn’t quite work the way I wanted so I came up with the version above.  But I thought I’d share it in case it gives you some other inspiration.

    The main difference is that I stamped the ghost onto the Lost Lagoon cardstock and then cut him out and glued the die cut onto the other part of the Lost Lagoon cardstock.  Then in the hole that was cut out, I stamped the ghost directly onto the cardbase and glued the Lost Lagoon cardstock over the top.  Clear as mud?

  • Fun Fall Cards with the Rock n’ Roll Technique

    Sometimes you have to go back to those techniques have been been around forever… in this case, I created a card to share with my Stamp Club folks using the Rock n’ Roll technique.

    I combined a few of my favorite fall items – like the Autumn Wood Elements and the Fall Fest stamp and framelit bundle.  It was a way to use those fall stamps and accents for a card that isn’t necessarily fall specific.

    And of course there is the Rock n’ Roll technique which we used on the pumpkin here –

    How to do the Rock n’ Roll Technique:

    1. You want to start with a solid image – in this case, the pumpkin – and ink it up with your lighter ink color.  You want to start with your lighter color, both for the look of the end result stamped image, and because you don’t want to get dark ink all over you lovely light ink pad!
    2. Before you stamp the image, grab a darker complimentary color ink and “roll” the stamp with the lighter ink around on the ink pad.  Basically, tilt your stamped image so that it is at a 45 degree angle (think a car up on two wheels like it is driving on a curb) and then roll so you are only touching the outer edge of your stamp to the darker ink pad.
    3. The more flat you hold your stamp when you roll, the less of the light color you will see.
    4. NOW stamp your image on your paper!

    You should get a lighter color in the middle and the darker color around the edges.  Easy Peasy!

    Now, I’ll admit, this is the card we made in Stamp Club, but this is the card I originally made and had planned to use for the class (I just managed to lose the stamp set at the time and so couldn’t bring it to class!  Darn craft room, eating my supplies!)

    It is almost exactly the same, except that I used the For all Things stamp set instead.  I love how that leaf looks with this technique, don’t you?  I used the Hello Honey ink pad and edged with Cajun Craze for the pretty fall colors.

  • A Quick Card Using Project Life Cards Plus Weekly Deals and a GIVEAWAY!

    Did you realize that the Project Life cards aren’t just for scrapbooking or memory keeping?  Yup! It’s true!  Check out how I used two of the cards to create a fun card that you can send to anyone – no stamping required!

    I cut my card base out of Bermuda Bay cardstock and then had to trim down one of the 4”x6” cards (the blue and white striped card).  There was a spot on the card where there some extra spacing of white that made sense when you were using it as a 4”x6” card but not so much when you were mounting it on a card.  So I trimmed it down to 4” x 5.25” and then took the extra 3/4” strip and added it over the white wide band to cover that up and add some extra fun striping (see the black arrow in the picture below to where I glued it).

    Then I used some black cardstock to mount my 3”x4” HI card from the Everyday Adventure card kit and added a bit of ribbon and rhinestones and mounted it to the front of my card.  Done and Done!

  • Friday Favorites–Partridge and Pears, Good Greetings, and Blendabilities!

    So, this post is supposed to be highlighting my favorite thing (since this is for the Friday Favorites over at the Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration design team blog) but man if I don’t have a heck of a time picking a favorite!  It’s kind of like being asked to pick a favorite child.  But there are a few things I’m loving right now in this card and so I thought that I’d just expend into my favorite things – plural – Partridge & Pears stamp set, Good Greetings stamp set, and of course, blendabilities!

    This is one of the cards we made in Stamp Club this month and so we kept it simple for the coloring so that everyone could actually get all of their projects done before it was too late!  I’m sure I’ll do another with the tree completely colored, but for now, I’ll let the bird get all the attention. Smile

    Tips for this card:

    • Just because a line art image has lots of space to color, don’t feel like you have to do it all!  Pick a few elements and let them shine by only coloring them.
    • Extend your color palatte by using the Skin Tone Assortment of Blendabilities to color other things like this partridge’s wing and face.

    • Use the Good Greetings hostess set to add a sweet sentiment to your holiday cards.

    • Tuck a piece of the Silver Baker’s twine just under the edge of the tree image for a little hint of glitz on your card for some subtle sparkle.

    This stamp set just LOVES to be colored with the Blendabilities markers and it is so fun to do.

  • A Fall Colors Thanks with Seasonally Scattered

    Do you ever have one of those cards that seems like a great idea in your head… you start to put it together, and it just doesn’t exactly work out like you were picturing.  Then when you are done, you just don’t quite love the card – even though it looks totally fine to everyone else BUT you? 

    Well, this card is one of those for me.  I made it AGES ago but something never quite turned out the way I was hoping – not that I could tell you what that something was, I just knew something was bugging me.  So I set the card aside and moved on, and now, I can look at the card and start to like it again.

    See, not bad…. actually has some fun parts to it really. Smile 

    Tips for making this card:

  • Yes, I colored those flowers and leaves with markers. And yes, it took a while. But I found it to be very calming and relaxing which was nice.  I sat there with my 2014 In Color marker collection and patiently colored all the leaves, flowers, and lines.  It is worth it in the end!
  • Make your letters of your sentiment stand out more by outlining them with a marker – in this case with the Hello Honey marker.
  • Use the stamp again, only this time stamped with Crumb Cake ink to form a decorative border around the outside mat area!  Since the center will be covered up, you can have the word part be in the middle of your Crumb Cake cardstock and just cover over the “thanks” part with your White stamped cardstock.

    • Tear the edges of the Crumb Cake cardstock for a more rustic look to your card.
    • Wrap a piece of Blackberry Bliss ribbon around the front of the card and slightly under the bottom edge of your stamped sentiment.  Then tie your bow with a DIFFERENT piece of Blackberry Bliss ribbon and attach to the ribbon on the front of your card with glue dots.  Keeps it all nice and clean and smooth.

    You can mix and match this same design with different colors and stamps for lots of fun different looks for your card!  In fact, I actually rejected this card for my Convention Display Board submissions because I thought it was an almost identical design to this love card!  If you don’t look closely they don’t seem the same, but check out the layers and elements and you’ll see what I mean!

  • Quick and Easy Card with Blendabilities

    Today over on the Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration blog, we are sharing some quick and easy card ideas.  This is one that I loved from my last Blendabilities technique class because it looks so cool and yet is so super easy to make!

    I have no idea what to call this technique on the main sentiment – it always strikes me as a Neon Sign… should we call it the neon sign technique?  Or is it a variation on the Chalkboard technique?  Maybe I should call for a vote!  Smile  Either way it is so easy to do.

    Tips for making this card:

    • Keep your card clean and simple with basic black and white cardstock and paper.  This lets any colors you do add really POP off the page.
    • To get the Neon Sign look for your sentiment or image, stamp your image with Versamark ink on black cardstock and heat emboss with white embossing powder.  Color over your embossed areas with your favorite colors of blendabiliities markers.
    • You don’t have to worry about being precise, since you are coloring on black cardstock, the ink won’t show!
    • Coordinate your ribbon by coloring your ribbon with the same Blendabilities colors as well!  In this case, I used the medium Melon Mambo marker to color the center section of my white ribbon!

    Die cut out your images and adhere and you are good to go!  Or use this technique on your card base for a beautiful background.  The possibilities are endless. 

    And I do get the question, does the color rub off?  Nope!  Not if you let it dry before trying to rub and it doesn’t take very long to dry at all. Smile

  • How to Make Really Cute Star Boxes with the Many Merry Stars Kit (with VIDEO!)

    Have you heard me talking about this cute Many Merry Stars project kit yet?  I LOVE it! 20141020TH_HolidaySupplement_en-US It is part of the new Holiday Supplement that just launched today.

    And before you roll your eyes and say, “another catalog?” let me tell you that it is just a few more cute projects and coordinating elements that are a fun addition to what you’ve already seen in the holiday catalog.  The main items is a new stamp set that goes with the Stars framelits along with this awesome Many Merry Stars kit that I’ll be sharing with you today!  Plus, there are some new project life goodies that are perfect for documenting the holidays or for putting together a December Daily album!  (I’ll be talking more about December Daily in the near future).  And some new ways to see some great card kits.   But FYI – the new items in the Holiday Supplement are while supplies last, so don’t delay too long if you see something you love!

    Many Merry Stars Project Kit

    So stinkin’ cute, right?!  Here is everything you get in the kit… it was actually pretty hard for me to get a picture of all of it. Smile

    In the kit you get the supplies to make 26 3D Stars including:

    • Front and back of 26 different stars made out of Kraft cardstock & gold glimmer paper
    • the side pieces to hold the front and back together – WITH adhesive already on!
    • 2 sheets of die cut printed stars, banners, and bow pieces for embellishment
    • 2 sheets of white die cut banners and tags
    • 1 sheet of cherry cobbler stickers (words & stars)
    • Gold baker’s twine
    • Silver sequins
    • 20 wood snowflake elements
    • Gold Glimmer paper works and star decorations
    • Tips and instruction sheet

    So, for example, on the big star you can see I used some of the sticker words, some gold glimmer accents, the silver sequins, awesome wood snowflakes, and some of the gold baker’s twine.

    For most of the pieces, I used the Tombow liquid glue but in some cases I pulled out my glue dots (for the sequins) and my Stampin’ Dimensionals (for the ampersand).

    You can make big stars or smaller stars….

    And they are super easy to make too!
