  • Bye Bye Button Buddies–more class samples

I really need to do this more often… hold a class (or just challenge myself) to create a set of cards using each of the stamps in a stamp set.  When I did this for my All Occasions card class focusing on Button Buddies, I was stumped on one or two stamp sets but loved the challenge of trying to do something different with each of the images (especially with trying to not do a Halloween or Thanksgiving card using the pumpkin stamp!)

This was the card most people picked as their favorite from the class:

I had fun with the bright colors and I pulled out the Striped Organdy ribbon from the spring catalog to add a little extra in the middle.

And then there was the pumpkin card…  I was a bit stuck on fall and Thanksgiving and so I kept it in theme and made it a thank you card!

We colored in the pumpkin image with markers and then stamped 3 times without reinking.  So:

    1. Color your image and stamp the center pumpkin
    2. Immediately stamp the pumpkin to the left of your center pumpkin
    3. Immediately stamp the pumpkin to the right of your center pumpkin
    4. Clean the stamp

That gives you the stamped images but slightly faded for the main image.  Then add a matching button and you get that extra pop!

So if you decide to go for the stamp set…. don’t forget to grab the matching buttons too!  They are even 40% off!

  • Clean and Simple Any Occasion Card for the Button Buddies Class

Since tomorrow is the last day to get in on the Early Bird pricing for my All Occasions Stamp a Stack featuring Button Buddies, I thought I would share another card we will be making next Friday.

This may be my favorite card from the set, just because of the simplicity of the card but all the pops of color keep it from being boring.

The thing I really liked about this stamp set is that it literally is made to match the designer buttons.  So this card has flower images coming out of the vase, but they are the right shape and size to be perfectly covered up by the flower designer buttons (which, I might add, I am very sad to see retiring this year.  Sure the new buttons are cute, but I like my little flowers Smile)

  • Snowman Card for this Weekend’s Stamp-a-Stack

When I was getting ready for Creating Keepsakes this year, I decided to highlight the Button Buddies stamp set and made a set of fun cards using each of the stamps in the set.  One of my favorite cards was using the snowman stamp… so much so that I decided to use it for my last Christmas Stamp-a-Stackthis coming Sunday.

I love cards like this that look detailed but are simple to create.  A couple punches ( 2 3/8” Scallop punch and the Scallop edge punch), an embossing folder (Perfect Polka Dots), and some stitched grosgrain ribbon.  And tada!

Oh, and it was hard to show in the picture but I outlined the Whisper White circle with Dazzling Details glitter glue to add a touch of sparkle to the card.

  • Who Doesn’t Love A Pink Pig Birthday Card?

In getting ready for the Creating Keepsakes Convention last weekend, I wanted to put together some samples from different stamp sets including Button Buddies.  So, with the help of my friend Katy, we put together a set of card including this cute little guy:

Love that nose!  This was a super fast card to put together and it turns out it was one of the most popular cards from the set. 🙂  The pig and my Christmas snowman card (which we’ll be making in my next Christmas card stamp-a-stack at the end of November) were the two cards that seemed to get picked up the most.

What do you think?  Does the pig make you smile too?

    🙂

  • Button Buddies Flower Fun

I know we are in fall time and so a lot of the projects are rich colors and holiday themes, so I hope you don’t mind me going off in a completely different direction with this bright and cheery card!

This was one of my “scraps” cards.  As in, I have a terrible time throwing in my recycling bin any stamped scraps, embossed papers, or other rejects from working on one card that I just know could be used on another card later.  But then those half used papers pile up and I start to go a little bit crazy.   So, I’ve been trying to periodically make a card mostly or completely out of scraps I have left over.

So, first I had these flowers from when I was trying to pick a pink color for a different card.  Turns out they go great with a homemade glitter brad I created for a Crystal Effects class.  (That is a Cameo Coral In Color brad that has been covered in Crystal Effects and dipped in Dazzling Diamonds glitter!)

I had left over Wisteria Wonder cardstock that had been embossed with the stripes going the wrong way for a card I was prepping for a class one time and so it worked perfectly here.  And then I decided to break out my FAVORITE paper right now – Early Espresso Coordinations cardstock.  If this paper doesn’t stick around after the Holiday Catalog I will be (1) surprised and (2) so very very sad!

I ran a scrap through the Woodgrain embossing folder and my Big Shot and then punched out a Modern Label punch to use as a mat behind my sentiment punched out with the Word Window punch.

I really was happy with how the card turned out AND the fact that I used up a number of scraps!  It still doesn’t put too much of a dent into my scrap pile, but it’s a start!

  • Gate Fold Card with a Window

I thought I’d share another card that we created recently in my Fun Folds class.  I had first done this card style for the folks in my Cards to Go program in June but thought it would be a fun style to do in my class here this month.  So I switched up the colors and paper to make this card:

I often do the gate fold card when I am showing different folds option, but I liked how this card has the fun window in the middle to “peek a boo” to the inside of the card.  In this case, I just layered the two different sizes of Scallop Circle punches and the Button Buddies stamp set.

Oh, and in case you are wondering about the designer paper – it actually comes from the Twitterpated designer series paper pack!  I would never have thought to look for a pattern like this in that kit but I was flipping through and it just jumped out to me as perfect!

And if you are interested in getting project kits or instructions mailed to you each month for fun new cards

  • Scrapbooking Sunday: A Punch Art Bunny For Spring!

Happy Easter to you!  I hope you have a wonderful day full of fun and happy moments.

For my blog post today, I wanted to share a scrapbook page I created to hold some of our Easter moments this year (I knew what color outfits the kids would be wearing so I could pick the right colors – hee hee; but I don’t have the pictures printed yet).

If you saw my stamping basics video earlier this week, you saw that I used the Button Buddies stamp set to demonstrate the difference paper can have on your image.  Well, what you didn’t see is that I did that about 4 different times because I was trying to figure out how to get my video camera to point to the right place and work for my demonstration – or making sure it was on… that was frustrating when I did the full video only to realize I had pushed the record button off instead of on when I started!

Anyway, I had some extra flowers and an idea, so I created this:

The very first thing I knew I wanted to do was create this row of flowers.  I punched them out with my scallop circle punch and went about laying them down.  I alternated having one flower glued straight down to my paper and the next flower popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  And while this stamp set is made to work perfectly with a designer button in the center of the flower, I decided I wanted to do something a little more subtle and so I used Crystal Effects to add some shine and pop to my flowers.

And then there is the bunny…. I LOVE making this punch art bunny.  I’ve made one in the past but for this page I knew I wanted a smaller version and so I had to start from scratch.  So, I looked at my punches and started experimenting… but isn’t he cute?

I’ll admit I got the button tail idea from a few demos online (I saw it first from Pam Steckman on facebook) though their bunnies were much bigger.  Anyway, if you want to create this little bunny, I thought I’d show you how I put it together.  It is the Heart to Heart punch for the ears and feet, the 1” circle punch for the body, and the 3/4” circle punch for the head.  I sponged all the pieces with Blushing Bride ink just to give them a subtle definition from each other.

As it turns out, seeing the bunny shape from my example to show you how I made the bunny looks like another cute way to create a punch art bunny.  So, hopefully this gives you a couple new ideas to play with on your projects!

  • Simple Button Buddies Vase Card

I’m still working on getting over my paper and embellishment hoarding tendencies.  I LOVE my pattern papers and all my cute buttons and brads but I always worry about using them up (reality check – its not like there isn’t more out there huh? 🙂 ).  So this is a step on my road to recovery:

When I saw the Button Buddies stamp set when the new catalog came out, I thought it was a pretty cute set; but then I realized it was perfect for helping me use my “collection” of buttons in lots of fun and cute ways!  So, this is one of the first cards I made with it.

If you haven’t seen the stamp set, this is what the images look like:

image So, in each image, there is a circle or a flower that is *exactly* the right size to be covered by one of the Stampin’ Up! designer buttons.  So, you can have a cute pink pig’s nose or a button belly for your snowman.  I’m personally partial to the flower shaped buttons and thus my card.

If you want to play with this at home, I kept it really simple and just colored the vase with a Soft Suede marker and colored the flower heads and stems with the Old Olive marker – because you want to color the flower heads so you know where to put the buttons but it doesn’t matter what color they are since they will be covered up!  Also, my favorite adhesive to use when adhering buttons like this is glue dots, so one in the center of each button was perfect.  I’m loving this set; what do you think of it?
