Celebrate 10 Years of Stamping with Me!

10 years… say what?!  Oh my goodness!  I was starting to write a blog post for Tuesday – I’m joining my team in a small blog hop showcasing some fun swap cards! – and I looked at the calendar and realized that I was right around the date I first signed up as a Demonstrator.  I looked it up and 10 years ago on July 26th, I was so excited to put in that starter kit order and join Stampin’ Up. 😊

First card posted on my nwstamper.com blogThe first card I ever posted on a blog! Using supplies from my new starter kit in 2008!

So, I had to take some time to sit and reminisce…..

    • How I only went to my first “stamp camp” because my friend was starting something new and I wanted to support her, but I had no idea what a stamp camp even was!
    • I started hosting card nights and my friend kept trying to tell me I should sign up. My response? “Oh, I couldn’t do it.  I don’t know anyone who would want to shop and I’m not a salesperson.”
    • Eventually convincing my mom to sign up instead of me because I knew she was great at teaching other sewing and craft classes and she was looking for a way to earn a bit of money. I told her I could be one of her customers!
    • Seeing all the perks and discounts she was getting, I thought she was pretty lucky but by then I had moved to Oklahoma and literally only knew my husband’s co-workers and their spouse.
    • I went ahead and hosted a card class with my mom as the long distance demonstrator and realized how fun it was running the event and not nearly as hard as I thought!

Fun + Discounts + Sneak Peeks and Early Access to new releases = I was totally sold!

Stampin Up 2010 Convention Jennifer blomquist Shelli Gardner Kathy ThistedMe, my son, Shelli Gardner, and my mom at the 2010 Stampin’ Up convention!

What started as a way for great discounts, has turned into so much more.  I am so grateful for all the friends I’ve made over the last 10 years and the experiences I never would have been able to have if I hadn’t decided to take the plunge and become a demonstrator.

Here are some fun stats from my last 10 years.

Since I joined Stampin’ Up I’ve:

    • Had 2 kids (they are currently 8 & 6)
    • Lived in 4 states (Oklahoma, Oregon, California, and Washington)
    • Gone to 12 Stampin’ Up Conventions/OnStages!
    • Been a display stamper for OnStages 3 times
    • Earned Founders Circle
    • Earned 3 Stampin’ Up Incentive trips (San Diego, Mediterranean Cruise, Thailand!)
    • And had times where I’ve stepped back and taken more time for my family, and other times where I really pushed extra hard in my business.
    • Been blessed with more friendships and getting to meet amazing people than I could begin to count!

  • Birthday Celebration Fun Framed Art

I was going through my projects and pictures I’ve taken of inspirational ideas and I stumbled across this picture of an AWESOME framed stamped art that fellow demonstrator Karen Trelfa created.  She shared this with us at Founder’s Circle and I totally forgot about it.  But wouldn’t this be a cool thing to create?

The cool thing about it is that it uses different random bits that you have around home and in your stamping supplies to create a cool collage effect to help celebrate any holiday or event.

Some of the supplies found in this art:

    • The Alphabet Press embossing folder to make the textured background behind all the punched and decorated squares
    • Most of the squares use squares out of different patterns from the Birthday Basics designer paper
    • Stamped images from different sets including: Sketched Birthdays, Flower Shop, Sweets for the Sweet, A Fitting Occasion, and Label Love
    • The Cupcake Punch
    • Marina Mist 1/8” Taffeta Ribbon
    • Glimmer Brads
    • And misc cardstock and ink

But I just think the look of all the different layered elements just looks so cool!  What do you think?

Last Day of Giveaways for the Birthday Celebrations!

I have been having so much fun sharing ideas and sharing some of my scrappy stash with all of you over the last few days!  Thank you for joining the fun with me!  For my last day of

  • A Christmas Card from Shelli Gardner!

I can’t believe I almost totally forgot to post this card I received at Founder’s Circle from Shelli Gardner (Stampin’ Up! CEO and her daughter Sara Douglas).  When we were swapping she gave us this card and even signed it on the back with her “bad” hand since she had just been in her horse riding accident and had injured her shoulder.  But I wanted to share it with you now before the holidays completely pass by.

But first, don’t forget about the Birthday Weekend Celebrations!  My birthday was on Wednesday and I’m sharing the presents all week long!  If you haven’t checked out day 1 and day 2, you still have time to get your name in the drawing for each gift since I’ll be drawing names on Sunday morning.

So check out Shelli’s card and then leave a comment to be entered for today’s giveaway!

    So Sophisticated Christmas Card

Shelli is known for her vintage and sophisticated style.  It always makes me laugh to see her on stage and start putting together a card and tell us that it is just a “stamp here”, “spritz there”, add a little fussy cutting, glue this and that, “add a stitch” just so… and you are done!  She makes it look so easy!

Now, I guess the basic elements of this card are pretty straight forward.

    • Run the embossing folder across the middle of your card front for embossing on only part of your card front.
    • Heat emboss a single stamp (the O Holy Night set) in gold.
    • Cut out your stamped image with a framelit (from Apocathary Accents)
    • Add a Champange Glimmer paper punched star with the Merry Minis punch pack and placed a pearl in the middle (I would recommend using some extra adhesive to help hold it in place on the rough glimmer paper)
    • Spritz the card base with Vanilla Smooch Spritz to add some subtle shimmer to the card

But then you look closer at the top of the card and we start to get a little fancier!  : )

It looks like she took some of the Modern Medley designer paper and accordian folded a thin strip to allow them to shape it into a circle to go behind the star (I’m sure glued with hot glue!)

Then took some of the FABULOUS Cherry Cobbler seam binding ribbon and (I’m guessing with starch spray) crinkle and folded the ribbon to this interesting look.  Add two more paper banners on the right and you are done!

It looks like a really fun card to make…. but one I would make for only a few special people. : )

    Birthday Celebrations & Giveaway – Day 3!

Alright, I promised you gifts because birthdays are so much fun and I’m glad I can share mine with you.

  • Birthday Celebration–Day 2 with Simply Sketched on Vellum

Woo hoo! It’s day 2 of my celebration and I have another card to share with you today.  This is a card that I made for my Fun n’ Crafty demo team swap.  Each month, everyone in my downline is invited to participate in a card swap… sort of like a secret santa – only for cards.  You are given one or more names to send a card to.  You know you will get a card for each one you send, but you don’t know from whom or when in the month it will arrive.  It’s pretty fun!

Anyway, while I was working on samples for my Vellum class, I was inspired to try out heat embossing on the vellum and then coloring in between the embossed lines with some bold marker colors.  Check it out:

I reached for a bunch of supplies that I love but don’t use nearly enough (lets hear it for vellum, candy dots, and core’dinations cardstock!) and started mixing and matching using a simple card design.

I made a couple in this AWESOME Cherry Cobbler colors and then one in the Island Indigo color.

To make this card, it is simple to do.

    1. Stamp your image on Vellum cardstock using Versamark ink
    2. Cover with White embossing powder and heat
    3. Color in between the raised embossed lines using a marker
    4. Glue Vellum to the front of your card or designer paper mat using candy dots (if you paper starts curling, you may need to secure the corners with glue dots and then cover with the candy dots)

Oh, and that core’dintations cardstock?  It makes a great textured background and if you grab your handy dandy sanding block, it distresses beautifully and gives it a velvety feel.  (seriously, sand some of this paper and feel it!)

    Card Supplies Used

    Stamps – Simply Sketched
    Ink – Versamark, Chocolate Chip
Papers – Very Vanilla, Cherry Cobbler or Island Indigo core’dinations cardstock, Vellum cardstock, Soho Subway designer paper
Accessories – Cherry Cobbler or Island Indigo marker, Garden Green marker, White embossing powder, Embossing Buddy, Sanding Block, Neutrals Candy Dots

And we can’t forget!  It’s Day 2 of Birthday Celebrations!

So, today’s presents for the giveaway are a cool combo goodies to make a project like this yourself.  If you haven’t already checked out the CUTE punch art birthday penguins I posted yesterday and entered yesterday’s giveaway, you should!  Then come back and get in on today’s prizes.

  • What Do You Get When You Cross an Elephant & a Pinwheel?

What do you get when you cross an elephant and a pinwheel?  A seriously cute summery card, that is what!

    Card created by Margaret Hall

This is a card that I received as part of a swap at Leadership earlier this year but with the weather changing, I was feeling the need to celebrate the arrival of spring with a fun card and I thought of this one!

I love how Margaret used paper piecing to give the elephant such a cute look!  Plus the idea of the elephant from Henry Says blowing the pinwheel on a summer day is such a fun idea.  I love the whimsy this pinwheel die gives you but I’m still working on different ways to use it, so I love seeing examples like this.

    Blog Candy Winner!

It’s winner time!  I wanted to thank everyone who stopped by my blog last week and left me comments as part of my Sale-a-Bration send off.  It was fun coming up with all the projects and I hope you got some fun ideas as well.

So, after using Random.org, I drew a name and the winner of 50 sheets of 6×6 designer paper is:

Psst! Did you notice the ink spots on the lower right corner of the card?  Know where those are from?  It is one of the stamps in the My Paper Pumpkin welcome kit!  Just because those stamps are exclusive to that kit doesn’t mean you can’t use them on other projects, right? Smile

Here is the close up of the stamped images:

And this awesome birthday card I received as a swap from Lisa Althouse.

    Cute, right?

So, now I’ve highlighted Petite Pairs, Vintage Verses, Madison Avenue, and Bloomin’ Marvelous.  I know I skipped Feelin Sentimental, but I somehow managed to miss getting that set.  But if you want another idea, I loved this one from Lori Reid:

This stamp set has 5 different images to cover a variety of sentiment and card need

    image

I shared with you a cute way to use the elephant stamp set yesterday with my Baby Scrapbook Layout and so here are some quick card ideas using the other stamps in the set.

I also used the Sycamore Street designer series paper and the Sycamore Street ribbon as well as accents on many of these cards.  I was going for few supplies and a good variety of cards.

(Ok, so in reality, I wasn’t actually trying specifically to show cards with fewer supplies, but instead had to grab supplies out of my craft room quickly so that the baby could be put to bed in my craft room before I was finished with my cards!  So, I just grabbed a few items and then made a variety of cards using what I had managed to grab. Smile )

And if that wasn’t enough, let’s have more fun with some giveaways!

  • Anyone Want Some Free Cards?

Part of the fun of creating cards is playing with new stamps, paper, and embellishments… but its even more fun to share your creations with others!

Over the last 5 years, I’ve been creating, selling, and giving away cards; but through moves and some big card swap events, I’ve ended up with more cards that I can get through right now!  Check it out:

Many of the cards I have are ones I’ve held onto for a long time or are types I don’t use that many of (baby cards, halloween, easter, congratulations, etc), so they use retired papers and stamps.  Not that that makes them any less nice, I’m just swimming in extra cards! 🙂

So, I want to share these cards with you!

I decided that I wanted to take back my shelf space (because you all know I’ll be making more cards and filling them back up again!) so I’ve come up with a way to give these all away.

    Would you like some cards?

I’m starting out with a few different ways to give these away:

    1.  Leave me a comment here or on my Facebook page saying you would like a card and send me your address and I’ll send you one!

    2.  Post a picture of a card you’ve created using at least some Stampin’ Up! supplies on my Facebook page and send me your address and I’ll send you two cards!

    3.  Place any catalog order with me in November of $50 or more and I’ll send you 10 cards with your order!
Place your order online or contact me at jennifer@nwstamper.com.

Hopefully this will help me take back some shelves in my craft room and give you some new ideas to use as well!  Here are some examples of a few cards from the boxes:

So, thank you for helping me clean house and I hope you love the card(s) you receive!  I can’t guarentee what style/theme card you will get but when you send me your address you can let me know if you are looking for a specific sentiment and I’ll see if I can hook you up. 🙂  Questions?  Email me at jennifer@nwstamper.com.

Yesterday afternoon, I was putting the supplies away from my card class I ran on Thursday and had decided to sit down and make up some of the extra cards.  At one point, I looked up on my table and saw four markers sitting there and all I could think of was “Wow! That looks like it would make an awesome Spring card!”

I didn’t get a chance to make my card yet because Nicholas (my 1 yr old stamper-to-be) was insisting it was almost dinner time; but I thought this would be a great color challenge to share with you all!  And its been a while since I did some kind of giveaway on my blog, so I thought why not combine the two? Smile So, here is your challenge:

    Spring Color Challenge

Use the following colors in a project:

    • Marina Mist
    • Old Olive
    • Melon Mambo
    • Daffodil Delight

You could make a card, a scrapbook page, a 3D item, or anything you feel inspired to do!  My goal is for you to try out a fun new color combination that you might not have tried before.  Color Challenge

Don’t have one of the exact colors?  That’s ok!  Use something similar for a similar effect.

Now, on to the fun stuff – a giveaway!

Wanna win some goodies from me?

**Post your completed project on my Facebook page here – NWStamper Fan Page ; or send me a picture of your project to jennifer@nwstamper.com.  **

By sharing your awesome ideas, I’ll put your name in a random drawing to win.  What will you win, you ask?  How about a half sheet of Ice Cream Parlor Die Cut Stickers, some Ice Cream Parlor ribbon, and a card kit with supplies to make 4 of these cards from my recent card classes:

You can even pick the color of buttons for your kit. Smile So, between the coordinating stickers, ribbon, and the cardstock and papers, you will have lots of options for some fun bright and cheery cards.  I’ll post some of the challenge submissions here on my blog as well to help give you some extra ideas along the way too (obviously with full credit to the brilliant creator who made it!).

I will be drawing a winner at 10pm PST on 3/31, so make sure you get your entries posted by then!

So, until then I hope you enjoy this color challenge – I know I can’t wait to play along myself!
