  • Sale-a-Bration Fun by Bethani!

    It’s a new week and while I’m still trying to get photos together from the projects I demonstrated at the Northwest Women’s Show last weekend I thought I would share a fun card that my downline, Bethani Semple created recently.

    I find the Everyday Enchantment designer paper and Fresh Vintage stamp set often are used to make cute vintage but girly cards.  But, I love how Bethani used them in a more neutral way!  The Pacific Point cardstock base was an unexpected choice for me but I think it really brings out the designer paper patterns, don’t you?

    She used the scallop square Big Shot die as well as the new cute hearts framelits (have I told you how much I love framelits?!) for her base shapes.  Then she added the stamped image and some texture with the Everyday Enchantment organdy ribbon and matching brad.

    This is definitely one of those cards full of shapes and patterns I would never have thought to mix but turns out they look great together!  Thanks, Bethani, for the inspiration and for letting me share it on my blog!

  • Scrapbooking Sunday: Mixed Bunch Color-blocked Page

    So, this is my last weekend to prep before the big Northwest Women’s Show here in Seattle.  I’m grateful to have the opportunity to present a crafting demonstration on their Home Style stage on each of the 3 days; so I’ve been trying to square away exactly what I’m going to demo.  Well, this is one of the projects I’m planning on showing on Sunday (please forgive the awful photo):

    I saw a layout by a crafty friend of mine named Brettaney Q, who is a super talented scrapbooker, and was inspired to scraplift from it for the show this coming weekend.  She was so nice to give me permission and I love how my version turned out thanks to her inspiration.

    I changed things up because I was using all Stampin’ Up! supplies and it was fun to get to pull out and play with all my tools!

    This layout ended up being all about texture as I cut my strips for the color-blocked bottom of the layout and ran them through my Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.  And on the top half of the layout I stamped with the Mixed Bunch stamp set with Versamark and embossed using clear embossing powder.  I added some Wisteria Wonder bakers twine along the middle which softens it all a bit.  And then I played with my Mixed Bunch stamp set and the matching Blossom punch to make the flower next to my photo.

    Oh, and the last thing I did was add a simple title to my page.  I again reached for my Big Shot and grabbed my Timeless Type alphabet sizzlets, and cut it out of Rich Razzleberry cardstock.

    I love how it turned out and I hope the visitors to the Women’s show enjoy it too!  I’ll be showing them this project on Sunday along with a matching card using the same layout for those of you who aren’t scrapbookers. 🙂

  • Altered Clipboard Countdown Ticker

    Have you ever looked at your stash of supplies, whether scrapbooking paper or office supplies, and realized you had more than you thought? That was me after organizing my craft room at the end of last year.  So I joined a group of girl friends in declaring a 100-project challenge!

     

    For this challenge, you are supposed to create 100 projects using the supplies you have before you buy more stuff.  You are allowed to declare exceptions – like I said I could get more adhesive, supplies for my Stampin’ Up! classes, and page protectors for scrapbook albums.  However, soon after starting the challenge, I realized I was having a hard time remembering what number I was on, and so I decided to make myself a little countdown ticker.

     

    I found a smaller clipboard at a local craft store for $1 and so I snagged it and brought it home to decorate – hey it counts as one of my projects that way!

    I dug into my retired designer paper and found that I had tons of this Junior Varsity pattern and so grabbed a pack and got to work.  I covered the front and the back of the clipboard with designer paper and then used the Big Shot to cut out a title using the Go Go Boots alphabet dies I got on the Clearance Rack.

    Then for the numbers, I used my Simple Numbers Bigz die to cut out two sets of 0-9 numbers.  Then I created cardstock tags that could be clipped up and traded out as I worked my way through my projects.

    After I finished, I thought I should have made the title or decoration on the clipboard more generic so I could use it for all kinds of other countdowns – but I guess that means I can make more and they’ll count as another project! 😉

  • An Everyday Enchantment Valentine

    Hopefully you had a chance to enjoy the blog tour earlier this week.  I loved playing with the new Sale-a-Bration items for my projects and so I reached for them again when I was working on a card for a long-distance workshop I have coming up.

    I was working within the constraints of what stamps, ink, and tools my hostess had; but since I was providing the paper and embellishments – I knew I really wanted to work in the Everyday Enchantment designer paper and Calypso Coral Organdy ribbon.

    I also was excited to use the Fun Flowers Bigz L die for the Big Shot. I don’t use mine nearly enough but I started playing with a Very Vanilla flower and thought it really went with the vintage look when I sponged the edges. Then I was told that the scallop circle punch from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack fit perfectly in the scallop circle from the Fun Flowers die, and that gave it just the right amount of Pop!

    This is one of those cards that looks complicated but is actually really easy to pull together.  So hopefully the girls getting together for the workshop will have a lot of fun making their own copies!

  • A Slightly More Masculine Thank You

    Today I wanted to share the last of the cards we made at a recent class of mine.  The other cards all were flowery or included pink so I figured I ought to try to come up with something for the more manly folks in your life.  (Plus I really wanted to use my Stripes embossing folder for the Big Shot!)

    So this is meant to be a quick and easy card you could make when you need a thank you card and everything you have in you drawer is too girly.  This was also one of my first times pulling out the First Edition specialty designer paper.  It’s a lighter-weight paper, so its kind of fun to play with – even when you are just doing something as simple as tearing an edge.

    Oh, and did I mention that the Stripes embossing folder is one of the items you can get FREE during Sale-a-Bration?  Smile
    (It’s easy to miss in the SAB catalog, but it’s there!)

    So, while I’m still trying to figure out just what defines a “masculine” card; I think this will work for now!

  • A Happy Halloween Owl!

    Halloween is almost here and since I’m so behind on posting, I wanted to hurry up and share a card I made this month using the holiday hostess set called Warmest of Wishes.  I normally don’t get halloween stamps but since this adorable trick or treating owl was a part of the set, I knew this year I had to make at least one Halloween card!

    I actually got the card layout idea from the October issue of Stampin’ Success (the free monthly magazine sent to all SU demos – see another fun perk of being a demo!)  But I had to play with it and add my own touches.  The trick or treat bag held by the owl is actually stamped in black on Pumpkin Pie cardstock and cut out to add some extra dimension and color.  And with the Rich Razzleberry designer button, I tied linen thread around the Pumpkin Pie ribbon and through the button holes to help gather the PP ribbon.  Then I just used glue dots to hold it in place. 

    This card was fun to make; I may just have to try it for other holidays too!

  • Playing with the Petal Cone Big Shot Die

    Every catalog since Stampin’ Up! started offering the Big Shot, they have offered new dies in all kinds of shapes and sizes.  This time around, the Occasion Mini catalog offered the Petal Cone Bigz die.  My mom ended up getting it and so I had to play with it myself.   

    The die itself actually punches out two sides of the cone (with attached half circle flaps), one half-scallop circle, and a banner like strip.  So, I decided to experiment.  I created the cone out of your basic Melon Mambo cardstock and then decided to use the Love Letter designer series paper for the half-scallop circles, which I attached underneath the flaps. 

    Tip – if you are going to use the scallop circles under the flaps, you will want to trim the last scallop or two off each side.  Otherwise your flaps will not lie flat as the scallops get in each others way.

    I wrapped some Very Vanilla taffeta ribbon around the rim of the cone and then added some pearls for an extra fun touch.  Finally, I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do with the banner, so I took two of them and glued them together to make the strap for the cone!  Since I didn’t want a seam to show, I cut out a couple flowers and added them to the strap for a pretty way to finish it off.

    So, this was a start but I’ve seen a lot of other cute projects with this die including baskets (made by folding in the pointed ends of the cone before you glue them together) and carrots for holding Easter candy!

  • Dress Card using Designer Fabrics

    I saw a project someone made at convention last year that created the dress part of this card using cardstock and a paper napkin.  Then, when I was looking for ideas for using the Stampin’ Up! designer fabrics, I ran across some cards that used the dress and put it onto a standard card base.  Cute, right? 

    I originally found instructions from Lorraine Castellon-Rowe’s blog and then started playing with the fabrics and papers I had around.  Because I wanted to use the swirly pattern from the Deck The Halls fabric set, I decided to use my swirly pattern Texturz Plates for my BigShot to emboss the background piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. 

    To make the dress bodice, I used a series of punches:

    Dress Card Punch Art Step 11.  Punch a circle using the 2 1/2” Circle Punch for the base of the bodice
    Dress Card Punch Art Step 2 2. Punch out the waistline of your dress using the 1 3/4” Circle Punch.  If you want to be very precise, you can take the cut out from the first side and trace that curve on the opposite side.  Then use the pencil line as your guide when lining up the punch.

    Then embellish as you like.  I used the adhesive pearls and added some ribbon to the waistline but you could get creative with gems, buttons, embossing, or whatever sounds fun to you.  The skirt was just run through the BigShot using the Scallop Square die though I think for future cards like this, I would probably use the new Scallop Square Duo die.  And then adhere to the back of your bodice.

    It’s a fun card and one you could make in so many variations to be a perfect match for the recipient of the card. I hope you enjoy this project!

  • Playing with Designer Fabrics the “No Sew” Way

    When my downline, Pam, suggested having a class focused on using the designer fabrics; I thought it was a great idea.  She was looking for more ideas on how to use all the cute fabrics and I needed the kick in the pants to start cutting more into my fat quarters.  So, I organized a fun afternoon where I shared “no sew” ideas and Bethani, another of my downline, brought an awesome card for everyone to do as well.  Since two of the cards used Sale-a-Bration stamp sets, I thought I’d share them first.

    So Happy For You Butterflies

     

    For this card, we use the Sizzix Multi-Purpose adhesive sheets to put adhesive on the back of the blue and red polka dot fabric (we didn’t put any adhesive on the multi-colored polka dot fabric).  Then we ran both fabric pieces through the Big Shot using the butterfly Bigz die. 

    Tip:  Place the fabric on the adhesive sheet prior to running it through the BigShot.  It not only will make it easier for you to have an exact shape match without having to try to line anything up, but the BigShot will provide all the pressure you need to ensure a no-bubble seal between the fabric and adhesive!

    We adhered the cardstock and then ran a piece of cardstock vellum through a crimper for a fun little touch (ok – and really I somehow completely forgot the vellum at home and so the ladies used whisper white paper and it looked really good too).  I adhered the crimped paper in the center only.  Then used the big butterfly with the adhesive back as the main adhesive as I layered it over the crimped paper. 

    Then we used glue dots in the center of the little butterfly and the button to layer them on top.  By only using adhesive in the middle of the small butterfly and the vellum, it gave the card a little extra dimension and/or movement.  Finish it off with my favorite sentiment set right now – So Happy For You from the Sale-a-Bration catalog

     

    Sweet Summer Flowers

    This is the card that was designed and taught by my downline, Bethani Semple.  Isn’t it so fun looking!  I think she did an awesome job and though I changed my version up a little by wrapping the ribbon around the Old Olive cardstock, I now think her original version that wrapped the Night of Navy taffeta ribbon around the cardbase was better. Smile

    Anyway, for this card, we took a strip of the Sweet Stitches Fabric and twisted it (kind of like how you twisted a towel when you were a kid and were going to “snap” someone in the kitchen).  So, once you had the twisted strip of fabric, we curled that around a small stick – in this case a paper piercer – to form the flower head.  When you were finished coiling, you tucked the end of the ribbon up through the center of your flower.  Then, add some hot glue to a punched out circle of cardstock and squish in your flower head.  Ta da!  Your very own custom accent.  Totally fun, huh? 

    In this case we used the ribbon flower as a head for one of our Sweet Summer flowers, this set is also from the Sale-a-Bration catalog.

  • Happy Valentine’s Day To You!

    I’m a little late in posting today, but I wanted to be sure I wished all of you a very happy Valentine’s day!  I created this card specifically for sharing today.  Stampin’ Up! and the crafting I’ve done since I was introduced to Stampin’ Up! has introduced me to my second family of amazingly creative and supportive crafters. 

    So, thank you for visiting my blog and for all the wonderful comments and support you share with me.  I hope you have a great day with friends and family!  Sending hugs your way!

    Fun Fact about this card:  This card started as an “oopsie” card from one of my past workshops.  Someone tried stamping on the pink base and it looks like they later accidentally dropped an ink pad on the card as well.  Oops!  But I thought the Chocolate Chip strip and embossed dots layer could be used for another card and when I saw this Ice Cream Parlor DSP, I thought they just worked. 
    And see, if I hadn’t have told you, you never would have known. Smile

  • Love You Much Valentine

    I’m so excited to be doing a Valentine’s themed workshop next week and so I’ve been busy getting the cards designed and ready to go.  I knew when we started talking Valentine’s Day, that I wanted to use this stamp set, Love You Much.  So, this is one of the first cards I created for the event.

    Because there is one stamp that stamps the three different hearts at the same time and the Heart to Heart punch will punch all three out at the same time, this card can come together pretty quickly.

    I stamped the Love You Much image in Cherry Cobbler and then went over the stem in Old Olive using a marker and then filled in the word Love with Pink Pirouette.  To add a little extra fun texture, I also cut an extra piece of Pink Pirouette CS and ran it through the BigShot using the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.  Then I just glued it straight onto the card base.  Kind of fun, no?

  • Day of Gratitude Scrapbook Page

    I made this scrapbook page before the craziness of the December Holidays and wanted to share it with you as my farewell to the Holiday Mini.  The Day of Gratitude stamp set was one that didn’t catch my eye when I first looked at the mini but after making a few samples at the Portland Regional in the fall I completely fell in love with this set.  I’m so sad to see it go but I’m sure will keep playing with it for a while.

    So this layout was the first scrapbook page I had made in many many months since I had been so busy with a new baby I had been focused more on cards (quick, easy, and functional!).  However, I did a workshop focused on scrapbooking and when I saw a layout on the Rubber Redneck blog, I just had to CASE it.

    In the workshop we did the 6×6 layout using Old Olive, Very Vanilla and Chocolate Chip cardstock.  We stamped using the Day of Gratitude stamp set and left room to add a 3”x4.75” photo.  Oh, and I had to through in an adhesive backed basic pearl to add a little fun to the saying.

    I think turn it into an 8 1/2”x11 layout by adding the More Mustard  cardstock as a base with accent stamping using More Mustard classic ink and Autumn Spice designer paper.  Throw in some Antique Brads and the chipboard word “fall” cut out using the BigShot (for those of you who have attended a SU convention or regional before, I always save the cardboard/chipboard that is used as a backing for the make and take packets.  I used one of those pieces to make my “fall”).

    Finally, to turn it into a 12×12, I used a base of Autumn Spice dsp, added some textured Chocolate Chip cardstock, some stamped elements and another Antique Brad, with some Old Olive satin ribbon for a final touch of color.

    Makes me almost wish fall wasn’t over yet. Smile This is a pretty easy layout with lots of fun accents.  I loved making it and hope you enjoyed the ideas.
