  • Sending Best Fishes with the Jar of Love Stamp Set

I’m back and sharing another card that we made at last week’s card class.  This was another one where I had fun using some of my Holiday catalog purchases for a NON-Holiday card.  Can you spot a few of them?

It was also a chance for me to play more with the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  Have I mentioned how great they are?  I love that you get a variety pack so you get 4 sizes of squares, circles, and ovals all in ONE pack!  See, I know me and if they had come out with 3 different packs, I would have wanted them all, but my pocketbook wouldn’t have wanted them all.  And so I would have had to pick which shape I liked best, and this way I don’t have to!  Win!

Anyway, I decided to experiment with using the die to cut out a circle from Vellum.  I figured that the stitching aspect would be subtle on the vellum, but it was great!  It was just enough to give a definite border to my circle element without it fading into the background too much.  What do you think?

And just a reminder, in case you missed it before, these dies have been so stinkin’ popular that its been hard to keep them in stock!  Stampin’ Up has a bunch coming to the warehouse, but they expect to sell out of them before they can get more inventory.  So you can only order them through the early morning of 11/21 (right now they are on backorder and all orders will ship out around 11/28).  After that, they will be unavailable until Stampin’ Up can get their stock built back up in the warehouse.  So, don’t wait too long to get your set!

Ok, back to the fun card at hand!  I didn’t want my fish to be sitting in boring water, I wanted him to SHINE!  Don’t we all deserve to shine?  So, I grabbed my Wink of Stella clear brush and added some shimmer to the water.  It looks great on the final card but, as usual, is really hard to photograph!

Now, remember when I asked if you could figure out which Holiday catalog items I used?  If you said the Fancy Frost sequins and the Kraft Rope Trim, you were right!

I love the Kraft Rope Trim for the nautical theme, but if the trim is a little thick for you; you can easily untwist the strands and you get 3 thinner rope pieces to work with.  It is perfect for fall, masculine, and nautical projects.

I also loved the soft colors in the Fancy Frost sequins and found them to be a perfect way to add shine onto the back of my card to balance all the circles and jar on the card.  They are perfectly sized to stick down with glue dots and you know they won’t go anywhere.

Jeepers!  Thanks to extremely flaky internet access at the hotel, I wasn’t able to get these blog posts written up and posted in the evenings of Convention.  But I wanted to post my summaries of the last two days at convention since I know a lot of you out there were interested in seeing what went on.  For those of you interested in the Display Boards – for the sake of space, I’ll be posting them tomorrow in a separate post.  But here is the final run down of a great convention:

    Inspiring Stamping Presentations:

There were so many great ideas this year.  I’m definitely going to use some in my classes over the next few months (scented embossing powder anyone?!) but here are a few highlights.

Friday night they hold Hispanic Night, which is a great event to learn about the differences and desires of the Hispanic market.  Its actually super interesting to learn the cultural differences that I didn’t know about (like when someone would send out a card).  And we were given the Quinciera stamp set to use for our make and take!!!!  I LOVE this stamp set even though I don’t know anyone who is having a Quinciera anytime soon.  But so pretty!

    Great Classes:

I went to lots of great classes.  This sample was from a class by Tami White and Ronda Wade.  They talked about what has helped them run successful businesses and it was great to hear different ideas and strategies from these great women.

  • Fishy Best Wishes to You!

Thursday night I held my first event with my new Bellevue/Redmond Card Makers meetup group.  We had a small group but it was fun to meet some local gals and great to have the forced motivation to get my craft room unpacked!  I’ll admit it, I didn’t get the craft supply boxes opened until that morning. :)  Thankfully, I knew I had extra supplies from the card we did for my last get together in CA, so I didn’t have to do design work, just find and gather the supplies.

This was the fun fishy punch art card we made:

I found this card on Lyssa Zwolanek’s blog and loved it so much I had to share it with others. Isn’t he just the CUTEST?!  The fun part is that this card uses some punches in very non-traditional ways.

    1.  For the body, I used an ornament stamp from the Delightful Decorations stamp set and punched it out with the Ornament Punch.

    2.  Then I punched out a flower using the 5 petal flower and trimmed off the petals to use for fins.

    3.  Then I used the 1/2” circle punch and the 3/16” punch on my Crop-a-dile for the bubbles and eye.

Fun, huh?  Give it a try and you can have your own cutey fish too.  Need one of the punches or supplies?  You can get it now in the online store
