  • Pair Up Those Punches!

When they announced the Color Refresh and told us that 10 colors were going to be retiring, I looked at the list and was a little sad but overall thought that I didn’t use the colors that much and so I wasn’t going to miss them too much.

Well, then I decide to pull out the colors and make a card with them…. who knew they were so cute together!?!

Colors used:  Certainly Celery, Regal Rose, River Rock, Bashful Blue, Pretty In Pink

Colors used: Riding Hood Red, Baja Breeze, More Mustard, Bravo Burgundy, Not Quite Navy

These are my thank you cards for customers who ordered from me this month.  I decided to pull out my punches and using them to create layered embellishments.  And if you didn’t grab this Petite Curly Label Punch during Sale-a-bration, it is now available to order too!
Anyway, it turns out, that mixing and matching shapes and colors looks pretty cool. Smile Use a stamp to act as a background for your embellishments and they will pop just that much more!

    Just a Note:
If you love any of these colors, be sure to be checking your stash!  Some of the ink and papers are already selling out, so be sure to hop over to the online store and grab your favorites before they run out too!
Get the full details about the color refresh here!

  • When You Need A Bright And Cheery Card

how about this one? All you need is some scraps and a couple punches and you have a sunshiney card for someone.  I always seem to make 4.25” x 5.5” cards (since they fit so nicely in envelopes that the post office will mail with a standard stamp) but sometimes just a little card you can tuck into a gift bag, someone’s backpack, or just surprise someone with, is fun to play to with different sizes and shapes.

     Mixed Bunch Oh hello thanks

This 3×3 card comes together super fast too!  For this card I used:

    Stamps:  Oh Hello
Paper: Brights Collection Designer Paper Stack, Pumpkin Pie cs, Very Vanilla CS
    Ink:  Early Espresso
Accessories:  Blossom punch, 1 1/4” circle punch, 1” circle punch, Gumball Green stitched satin ribbon, Snail adhesive

So, try different colors or sentiments and you can have a rainbow of spring flowers brightening up your crafting space. Smile

  • Another Print Poetry Idea

Today is the LAST DAY to RSVP for our Print Poetry stamp camp or sign up for a kit in the mail.  So, I thought I’d share one of the cards we created as an idea for the event but ultimately didn’t make the cut for the class this time (though I know I’ll be using the design in the future!)

This uses the Lacy and Lovely stamp set plus the Print Poetry designer paper and notecards & envelope set.  It is super fast to make and cute to boot!

One tip for this card is that for the doily image, I stamped in Crumb Cake ink on a piece of scratch paper first and then stamped on my card.  This gives you a lighter image so that the sentiment can really stand out.

Want to make more cute cards like this?

Sign up for the Print Poetry stamp camp or kit in the mail!  You will be able to get the instructions after today, but this is the last day to RSVP for kitsRefer a friend and get a bonus in your box!

Get everything you need to create 6 cards and a box to store them in, plus instructions so you can make them again and again with different papers and stamps!

  • Have You Heard? Black Ink Updates & New Wood Mount Cases!

When I woke up this morning, I saw that Stampin’ Up! had put together a sneak peek video on one of the new improvements that will be coming out with the new annual catalog in June and I was so stinkin’ excited that I had to share!  Plus there have been some other product updates and announcements that have just come out (updates on the black ink and color refresh) so today is all about getting caught up!

Update on the Black Ink Issues

imageSo, after the introduction of the Firm Foam ink pads, some of the colors had to be reformulated including the Basic Black ink.  After the reformulation, some people noticed that their new black ink pads were not drying well and would smear a while after stamping.

Stampin’ Up! has been working all year with their manufacturer to find a way to adjust the ink formula to keep that from happening and they just announced that they have found a solution and have implemented the change!  (They adjusted the amount of dye in the ink refill liquid)

You should still see the rich black color but have it dry much faster now – more like the rest of the colors.  Yay!

So if you’ve been waiting, you can get the new ink here:  Ink pad  |  Ink Refill

Color Refresh Update – Items are Selling Out

I’ve mentioned before that with the change in the Color Families coming out in the new catalog, Stampin’ Up! has discontinued 10 current colors.  This means that the ink, cardstock, ink refills, and accessories for these colors are while supplies last.

I know that bunch of you have jumped on getting stocked up on your favorites, but if you haven’t yet, I wanted to update you on what is selling out.  So far the following is gone:

    • Baja Breeze – reinker
    • Bashful Blue – reinker
    • Certainly Celery – reinker, 8 1/2” x 11 cardstock
    • Not Quite Navy – reinker
    • Pretty in Pink – reinker
    • Regal Rose – reinker, 8 1/2” x 11 cardstock
    • River Rock – reinker

Want all the details about which colors are leaving and what 10 new colors are coming? I have pictures and info posted here!

New Wood Mount Cases Are Coming!

In the Stampin’ Success, a magazine for demonstrator, Stampin’ Up! has revealed some of the new products that are coming our way in a couple months (can I just say I cannot wait to see the new catalog!)

One of the things I am most excited about right now is a new style of wood mount cases!  Yay!  I like the clear clamshell cases they currently have but the problem is that when I try to store them, the tabs that make it easy to open and close the cases get caught on each other and with all the different size cases, it can be like a game of Tetris trying to make everything fit!

You know you play the game trying to figure out how to stack your cases so they fit on your shelf and don’t fall over as soon as you pull out one. Smile

So, they will be coming out with cases for the wood mount stamps that are very similar to the clear mount cases!

    • Standardized sizes!  It looks like one bigger size to match the clear mount cases and a smaller size that is half height so you can fit two in the same space as one tall one.
    • Stamp images on the spine!  So you can stack them up like books and know what all the stamps are in the box!
    • Get extra cases for your old sets!  Just like how you can get extra clear mount cases, you will be able to buy extra wood mount cases too.
    • A template for creating your own stamp labels!  So if you are like me and are going to move your old stamps into the new boxes, you can easily create a label for your box.  I’m soooo glad they are doing this, making it easy for us!

Want to see them?  Check out the video:

Lots of exciting stuff!  If you have any questions, let me know!

  • The Card That Made Me Love Baja Breeze + LAST DAY for Free Shipping

When they announced the color refresh and listed all the colors that were going to be discontinued, I was a little sad and had some nostalgia moments as I remembered projects that I loved using those colors.

Well, today I thought I would share one of the cards that came to mind first when I was reminiscing about color.  It’s the card that made me fall in love with Baja Breeze.

    Baja Breeze color blocked card

This card is actually from January 2009!  It was back when Baja Breeze was an In Color and I thought it was nice enough but didn’t love it.  Well, then I started creating different color combinations and when I found this one – I realized how much of a great accent color is was!

Colors used:  Baja Breeze, Whisper White, Chocolate Chip, Kiwi Kiss (though now I need to try Lucky Limeade instead of Kiwi and I bet it would be just as good)

Do you have a favorite color combination with Baja Breeze?  I’d love to hear what you use!

    Last Day for Free Shipping!

  • What To Do With Extra Easter Egg Dye

So, now that Easter is over, grab that extra Easter egg dye that is on sale in the stores because I have a fun project for you!  Making your own custom dyed ribbon!

I was making Easter eggs with the kids and I loved how vibrant the colors came out.  (I always us the formula where you use 3 Tbsp of vinegar to dissolve the dye pellets) and I thought it was a shame to dump all the extra when we were done.

So, I thought – why not try using it on other things.  So, I thought why not ribbon?  Turns out it works great!

Once you’ve colored your eggs, leave the dye in your bowls and grab some ribbon.  I particularly love the white Organza Ribbon for this technique.

Leave your ribbon in each of the bowls for a few minutes to let it soak up the dye completely.  You can pull it out to check on the color and if it isn’t as deep as you want, put it back in for a little bit longer.  Then when you take them out, lay them out on paper towels to catch drips and let the ribbon dry.

You’ll see your ribbon go from shiny white to something like this:

Once you have all the colors done, they will probably look like this:

I found the Twill tape ribbon and the Victoria Crochet ribbon didn’t turn out as vibrantly as the satin-y part of the Organza ribbon.  So, I would probably stick to that type of ribbon for best results.

Once you are done, use it like any other ribbon on your projects.  I thought that the yellow reminded me of Daffodil Delight, so I used it in a spring card with lots of bright colors:

See, here is a close up of the ribbon (and some Dazzling Details on the flower that is really hard to see in a picture Smile):

I hope you enjoyed this idea for your extra dyes… and don’t forget, FREE SHIPPING starts tomorrow morning!  So, it is a perfect time to grab some extra ribbon, clearance Easter egg dye in the store, and get creative!

  • April Blog Hop – Silver Sparkle for Weddings or Anniversaries

Its blog hop time!  This time, the theme is Weddings & Anniversaries.  Now, all I could remember when I started working on my projects was the challenge to use silver in honor of Stampin’ Up’s 25th anniversary.  So, my mind was stuck on my silver glimmer paper when I got started.

However, I was lucky and got inspired and came up with not one but TWO cards using my glimmer paper that I’m pretty excited to share with you today.  So, hopefully you enjoy these cards too and they give you some fun new ideas to try out.

    Card 1:  Two Hearts Congratulations

This was my first “big idea”.  I am slightly obsessed right now with the technique of punching out a shape and then accenting it with a decorative paper below it.  So, in this case, I decided to do two hearts and pop it up on dimensionals over Silver glimmer paper.

I grabbed my Silver Dazzle pen and dashed out an outline around the holes to accent them and tie in to the silver theme.  Then I started with two small Razzleberry punched out hearts in the center of each larger heart, but I just really didn’t like how it looked.  But, put a flower from the Flower Trim ribbon on top of the Razzleberry hearts (so a little of the darker color shows through), and it looks great!

Then I just added the simple “congratulations” sentiment across the top.
(shhhh – want to know a secret?  I totally stamped a different sentiment directly on my base paper and it looked awful!  So, I had to go with plan B – the banner.  I think it works, don’t you?)

Card 2 – Interlocking Wedding Rings

So after finishing the first card, I had this idea that was itching in the back of my mind to do something that looked like two wedding rings.  I had no clue how I was going to do it, but I knew I just needed to try!

The rings were created by punching a 1 1/4” circle out of a piece of Silver Glimmer paper.  Then lining up a 1 3/8” circle over the hole to create a slim ring of silver.  Then I used my Tombow liquid glue to adhere it to my card.  I used the 1 1/4” circles as accents to the left and right of the rings.

And if you are curious about the base cardstock, I used Very Vanilla cardstock and spritzed with the Silver Smooches spritz.

If you have any questions about any of these cards, leave me a comment and I’ll make sure to fill you in!  (Or just leave me a comment and let me know what you think because it always makes my day to get a comment on a blog post. Smile )

And don’t miss more great wedding/anniversary inspiration at the other stops along the route –

  • Blast From The Past Thanks to April’s Best of Butterflies

I love the idea of the “Best of” stamps… Stampin’ Up!’s way of celebrating their 25th anniversary by bringing back some of their best selling images from the past 25 years.  Now, that said, I wasn’t too in love with the first couple sets – they just weren’t my style. But now that they have announced April’s set, I love it!

    Best of Butterflies!

This was a card I made back in July of 2011 and I still really like it:

I had borrowed the stamp set from my mom to create the butterfly center piece and loved the unique shape of the butterfly.  But the stamp set (Strength and Hope) never carried over from the spring catalog and so I missed my chance to get it.

So, if you were like me and missed it when it was around the first time, you can get it and other butterfly images in this set.  Here are all the different styles:

    Best of butterflies

    Best of Butterflies Stamp Set

    Aren’t they pretty?!

I keep looking at the different butterflies and having more and more ideas for how I would use the different images… so guess I’ll be getting this set! Smile

  • What Do You Get When You Cross an Elephant & a Pinwheel?

What do you get when you cross an elephant and a pinwheel?  A seriously cute summery card, that is what!

    Card created by Margaret Hall

This is a card that I received as part of a swap at Leadership earlier this year but with the weather changing, I was feeling the need to celebrate the arrival of spring with a fun card and I thought of this one!

I love how Margaret used paper piecing to give the elephant such a cute look!  Plus the idea of the elephant from Henry Says blowing the pinwheel on a summer day is such a fun idea.  I love the whimsy this pinwheel die gives you but I’m still working on different ways to use it, so I love seeing examples like this.

    Blog Candy Winner!

It’s winner time!  I wanted to thank everyone who stopped by my blog last week and left me comments as part of my Sale-a-Bration send off.  It was fun coming up with all the projects and I hope you got some fun ideas as well.

So, after using Random.org, I drew a name and the winner of 50 sheets of 6×6 designer paper is:

Great cards. I wasn’t sure I wanted this set at first, but really like it now. My favorite is the chalkboard technique card.
