When Life Gives You Lemons, Make a Card!

Today I had to share with you this fun card I received as a swap card at OnStage.  One of the things I love to do at Stampin’ Up events is swap.  You get such great ideas, especially with stamp sets and accessories you might not have yet.  I’m still trying to decide if I want to try to organize an official swap for the OnStage event in Orlando in November… but either way, you know I will be there ready to swap with everyone! 🙂  Will you be coming and joining me there?

This card was created by Theresa Argonza and I loved the colors she used to make this card.  The Night of Navy cardstock is the perfect backdrop to these fun and bright lemons.  Check it out:

lemon zest - if life gives you lemon night of navy card

This stamp set is great for a number of different types of cards, but this sentiment is good for thinking of you and sympathy cards.  You can decide if the right finisher is

    • Live it with zest!
    • Chuck them right back
    • Squeeze them for all they are worth

How fun are those sentiments?  I especially love the “chuck them right back”. 🙂

lemon zest layered die cuts when life gives you lemon card

The layering on this card was also brilliant too.  It really gives your cards a cool look when you layer embellishments in between matting layers of your main sentiment.  Like how there is a lemon peeking out between the vellum mat and the sentiment layer. So, definitely give it a try!

Make it at home!  Here are the supplies you’ll need:

Blended Season Bundle – Sweet Friend Card

We are on Day 4 of my anniversary celebration – hopefully you’ve stopped by days 1, 2, and 3 and left comments to enter to win on each day. 🙂  So, today I wanted to share a pretty card that uses the August exclusive Color Your Season Bundle.

color your season grapefruit and lime wreath friend card

This has the beautiful color combination – Grapefruit Grove, Lemon Lime Twist, Granny Apple Green!

Stamp with the Blended season stamp set and then color in the leaves (stamped in a circle to make them a wreath) using the new Watercolor Pencils assortment 2.  Color at the base of each leaf and blend the color out using a Blender Pen or an Aqua Painter.  It makes beautiful bright color.

The sentiment is stamped with StazOn onto Vellum and adhered over the stamped image to allow the image to peek through and soften the look of the card.

Add some die cuts from the matching Stitched Season dies to make a pretty accent in the corner.  Isn’t it pretty?!

  • Fun n’ Crafty Blog Hop–Let’s Use That Designer Paper!

Fun n’ Crafty Blog Hop–Let’s Use That Designer Paper!

Are blog hop imageyou ready for some inspiration for your designer paper?  Yes, all that beautiful patterned paper that you either have at home or have been eyeing up in the catalog.  Then hang on to your hats because today is the monthly Fun n’ Crafty blog hop and we are featuring projects that use designer paper! Many of the papers featured are included in the July Buy 3 get 1 free promotion, so if you find some favorites along the way, you don’t have to feel so bad because they are on sale! Winking smile

Idea #1 – Let Your Designer Paper be Your Focal Point

I’m going to be sharing two cards today, but this first one is the type that would have had me cringing a year ago… because I use “big” pieces of 2 sheets of paper!  Gasp! I know, right?  But the thing is, I realized that when I actually let myself use my papers, they make great borders and backgrounds. These patterns are from my new favorite paper collections from the Stampin’ Up catalog – Maritime Designer Paper. image I’m not normally a nautical person, but I love how many of the prints can be used for any type of card… but especially masculine cards!! I added some Silver Foil paper, some baker’s twine, a Cherry Cobbler button, and the sentiment from the Hip Notes stamp set. And if you noticed from the first picture, I had the Silver Foil paper curved so that it gave some dimension to the banner.  To help hold that curve in place, I stacked 2 Stampin’ Dimensionals on top of each other and then placed the stack under the raised curve part of the banner to keep it held up.  The other end is glued straight down to the card front.

Idea #2 – Try Some Paper Piecing

I’ve been meaning to try paper piecing with this stamp set (Vivid Vases) for ages, so now seemed like the perfect time to actually get it done! If you aren’t familiar with paper piecing, it is the idea of taking a stamp set with outline images that you would normally want to color in and instead of coloring in with markers, you stamp your image again on a piece of patterned paper and cut it out to glue on top of your stamped image. paper piecing example So, in this case, I used the new Flower Pot designer paper to give me a fun and funky floral background as well as for patterns for each of my pots.  Each paper used in this card are all from this one paper set. image Then when I was done, I was grateful for Stampin’ Up’s color cordination between products because I needed something and really wanted some ribbon to match without competing with all the colors and images I already had used.  Thankfully I was able to grab some Calypso Coral seam binding ribbon and Mossy Meadow stitched satin ribbon to complete the card. So hopefully you enjoyed these ideas for using up some of the paper in your stash! Lets keep the fun going and hop on over to Kathy’s blog for more ideas to try! Blog Hop Participants:

  • A Color Challenge with the Stylin Stampin Inkspiration Girls

So I was talking yesterday on Facebook about challenges and how they can be pretty handy when you need a little something to jump-start some craftiness.  I’m still looking for feedback on favorite challenge sites and what types of challenges you find most fun to do, but in the meantime, I have one to share with you!

    image

I’m a member of the Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration design team and each month we host a color challenge.  I checked out the colors we were set to work with this time and thought this was a neat color combo that mixes up colors and color families for a great spring combo.

Now, all that said, I loved the combo but stalled out initially with what I was going to do with it…. but I started with a flower stamp set, the new Naturals Chevron Ribbon, and the So Saffron core’dinations cardstock paper and began to go it.  Very quickly I ditched the flower stamps and soon this card emerged:

    Yay!  They totally work together!

All the stamping is from the new Perfect Pennants stamp set and yes – those hearts are cut out by hand… but I SWEAR it goes fast! Smile

I kept adding a little detail here and a little detail there and I think it all added up to just the right about of interesting going on… do you think?

Anyway, I think this sentiment is perfect for me to share right now because I’m getting all packed up and ready to head to Houston for the Leadership convention this week and one of the big things going on with me right now in my Stampin’ Business is figuring out how I can make my blogging and creative sharing more useful and meaningful to you.  So think of this as a little love note to you….wishing you all the best and hope I can help make it a little brighter and nicer along the way.

    Card Supplies Used

    • stamps – Perfect Pennants
