  • One Last Look at Leadership

Well, Leadership is over and I survived my 2am wakeup call to get me to the airport for my cross-country 6am flight.  (Eek! that was early!) But before I completely crash for the night, I wanted to share some of my favorite things from the event.

It starts with the little things – like getting plated lunches each day! Spoiled!

    IMG_1909

I didn’t know we got something other than a box lunch, so it was a fun surprise. Smile  And all the awesome free product and giveaways too!

But that doesn’t hold a candle to the sharing that went on over 2 days.  I’m not kidding when I say that my brain got FULL and I was glad for dinner breaks starting at around 4:30.

There were awesome presentations by Stampin’ Up! staff and other demonstrators ranging from class and stamping ideas to how to be better organized and how to use a business plan to become more profitable!

    IMAG1624

And of course, lots of swapping and A-MA-ZING presentations on the main stage!

    IMAG1634IMAG1599IMAG1647

PSST – this is a cute idea for using the new Best Of stamp set that is available for January!

I even found it was really cool to get some frank conversations and state of the company presentations from the executive team at Stampin’ Up!

    IMAG1653_BURST003

But I think the BEST thing of going to these events, is the friends I see (or meet in person for the first time after chatting online with them for ages) while I’m there.  People from across the continent that I would never get a chance to see if not for this event!

    IMAG1595IMAG1623

People like Gail from Canada (BasketballMom for those of you on SCS); and Ronda Wade!

So, if you haven’t been to a SU event before, all I have to say is… what are you waiting for? Smile  Check out the Regionals schedule for events near you (I have them posted on my FB page) or head out to Salt Lake City for Convention!  I’ll be there in July and would love to have you come share it with me!!

    IMAG1657_BURST001

(me & my mom – fun fact: I have been to 4 conventions, 3 regionals, and 1 leadership event; and my mom has joined me for each of those events!)

I have LOTS MORE PHOTOS up on my Facebook Page including display boards, so if you are interested in that you should come check it out!

  • It’s the Styling Stampin’ Squad January Blog Hop!

Alright, this is my second month with the crew of talented stampers and this month we are sharing project ideas using items from the new Spring catalog and Sale-a-Bration items.  Because who doesn’t like fun ideas with new stuff? Smile

Well, I have a couple quick projects for you and I hope they inspire some new ideas for you.  First up is a little card… I call it a calling card because it is actually significantly smaller than a standard card front.  I made these to send with some spring catalogs and SAB catalogs I was mailing out.  Something quick, cute, and let you see new stuff in action.

I highlighted two of my favorites from the catalog – the Honeycomb embossing folder and the Natural Trim ribbon.  I love how deeply the honeycomb embossing folder creases the paper and it actually looks good on both sides of the paper.

And don’t let the ribbon fool you.  It has that rough, almost burlap-like look when you see it in pictures but it is SO SOFT when you feel it in person.  I normally have a hard time using up all the ribbon on a spool but I have a feeling this is one I’ll actually be buying extra of before the catalog is over. Smile

Anyway, I thought that my honeycomb needed a bee, so I grabbed the new Collage Curious stamp set and found the bee was a perfect fit.  Cute, huh?

And if you haven’t seen that “Hello” sentiment before….check out your copy of the Sale-a-Bration flyer… it is the free Pretty Petites stamp set and the matching free Petite Curly Label punch.  LOVE!!

Alright, how about one more share for you?  You can’t say no, huh?

This card makes me so thankful for the Stampin’ Success magazine for demonstrators (an awesome perk when you join the Stampin’ Up! family!)  They have project ideas and samples for inspiration and CASE-ing and this color combo and initial layout idea came from a past issue.  It used a different stamp set and I had to tweak up the embellishments because I was so excited to use the new Sycamore St ribbon and button pack (also coming up free as part of Sale-a-Bration).  This is my second project with these buttons and ribbon (you can check out my scrapbook page from a few posts ago to see my first project).

So, I hope you enjoyed my projects this month and the blog hop we’ve put together for you!

I’m off to check in to the Leadership convention in Orlando today and hope to share even more inspiration with you over the next few days.  But until then, check out the rest of the blogs on the hop for more great ideas.

  • Did You See This Valentine’s Special?

Tonight is the night I catch a plane and head to Orlando for the Stampin’ Up! Leadership convention!  I’m super excited to go, especially since this is my first time going plus it is the 25th Anniversary year, so rumor has it there is some awesome stuff in store.

Also, thanks to my amazing customers and folks on my team of demos, I qualified to attend Manager’s Reception which means tomorrow night I’ll be taken by bus to hang out at Harry Potter World at Universal Studios!

So, if you are curious to see what I’m up to or hear about announcements or specials they share while I’m there, watch my Facebook page as I’ll be posting during the day as cool things come up.

In the meantime, I realized that I may not have shared these Valentine’s Day promotions and I wanted to make sure everyone saw them.

These bundles are only available until January 21st!

    image

Check out the flyer above for full details, but the short version is:

    1.  Get a really cute single Heart Stamp and a set of 25 – 1”x8” cello bags for only $5.95.  My bundle shows up today because for that price, why not make some fun treats for family, friends, and co-workers.  And yes, the heart matches the Large Heart punch!

    2.  Snag the My Little Valentine Stamp set and get the Sealed With Love Simply Sent kit Free.  It’s 4 clear mount stamps that coordinate with some of our punches and when you add them to the Simply Sent kit, you have Valentine’s ready in no time!  It’s $17.90 worth of goodies for $9.95… that’s like 45% off!

See one you love?  Check them out in the online store here.

Like I said before, these kits are only available from now until January 21st – that gives them time to be shipped to you for creating before Valentine’s day.

Alright, I’m off to finish packing and get ready to head to the airport.  So, have a wonderful day and I’ll have more to share with you tomorrow!

  • Masking with Framelits–A Super Pretty Effect!

So, since folks were pretty positive about my masked Summer Starfruit card in my last blog post, I thought I would share another fun card using masking.  I got this at convention last summer and thought it was just the prettiest!

    card created by Candee Smith

Label Framelits from Stampin' Up!I love how she used the fact that you get 6 different sizes of the framelits to create a perfect mask for her stamped image.  If I were to do this (and you know I will be doing it! Smile), here is what I would do:

    1. Pick your smaller (inner) size framelit and cut it out from a card front sized piece of scrap paper.  So, roughly 4.25” x 5.5”.
    2. Set aside the cut out piece…won’t need it for this project.
    3. Grab the piece of paper with the label hole cut out of it and lay it over a piece of paper for stamping on.  Tack it down some how, like with tape or a post-it note.
    4. Sponge all along the edges of the hole so you get the border on your stamping paper.
    5. Stamp your design if desired overlapping the edge of the scrap paper hole.
    6. Remove the scrap paper mask.  Cut out your stamped image using the next size bigger framelit.
    7. Woo hoo!  You are done!

Ok, now I’m totally inspired now.  And I still need to get some swaps done for Leadership this week, so I think I’m going to take this idea and go play today!  Hope you got some inspiration too!

  • It’s a Scrappy Blog Hop For the New Year!

Last month I was totally honored to be asked to participate in today’s Scrapbook Steals Blog Hop.  They were going to be featuring page design templates from Kiwi Lane Design Borders and, since I had never tried them out before, I thought it would be a blast to give it a go.  Especially since I knew I would have all my new Spring Catalog goodies to play with too!  The awesome thing is that these templates can be used with anything you have in your stash, so use them on old – new- thick – or thin!

Well, I have 3 projects for you today and hopefully you will get some new ideas for trying out border templates as well as catch a glimpse of some new Spring catalog (and Sale-a-Bration sneak peek!) items in my samples. Smile

    1.  The 12×12 Scrapbook Page

You may not think much of using a template for a 12×12 layout, but the neat (at least to me) part is that the templates I was given to use are the “Madison Avenue mini” templates, which means they are only 8” long!

What is a 12×12 purist to do??

Well, after careful investigation of my templates, I discovered that two of them fit together seamlessly to give me a 16” curve to do with as I pleased!

    extending kiwi lane templates

So I found an interesting curve line, used Post-it notes to tack down the templates, and traced away!  I decided to cut out the vintage-y flower pattern from the Twitterpated designer paper… and what you can’t tell at all because of how I ended up placing my pictures, is that the curve lines exactly match at the top and the bottom of my page.  I meant to do more with that but the matting for the photos got too big.  Oops!

I loved the line though, and so I decided to ruffle some ribbon, following the curve at the top of the page.  To achieve the look, I just ran some tape along the same path as the template that I used to trim my paper.
TIP – If you are going to do this, you really want to use Sticky Strip / red backed double sided tape.  I tried using my ATG for the adhesive thinking that was really strong but in less than a week, the ruffles were popping up and off the page.  So go for the tough stuff!!  Go redline/Sticky Strip!

(psst – this may be one of the free ribbons coming available during sale-a-bration. ;)).

And since I wanted to do some journalling but thought a straight edged rectangle would look wrong in my curvy layout… I grabbed one of the templates I used for the top of the page and used the curve to cut my journalling block.

    using kld templates for journaling

Psst – check out more SAB sneak peeks!  (Button, stamps, punch!)

    2.  An 8×8 Layout

Since my templates were the mini version and 8” long, I decided “what the hey!” and figured I’d put together an 8×8 page.  The curvy lines made me totally think of hills and so I thought it would be perfect for a park picture of my daughter Caitlin from this summer.

I couldn’t decide where to do my journalling so I, again, went with the whimsy and wrote it out following the curves of my hills.

And if you are curious, the background paper and the sun are all created out of the new Tea for Two designer series paper.  The circle that is the middle of the sun is an element on one of the patterns, so I just cut out two circles and chopped one up into wedges – pizza style – to make the sun’s rays.  I LOVE how it turned out!

    3.  A Card with Masking

Finally, I wanted to break out of the scrapbooking shell and use my templates in a totally different way.  Since sets contain “A” and “B” pieces that are just a rectangle with the patterned line cut through the middle, that means you can just slide your A and B sides a little apart and make a cool area for masking!

I did my masking on grid paper so I could slide the templates down the same amount each time so I could make my own background pattern.

    masking with KLD templates

And speaking of backgrounds, can I share that this card was totally inspired by my 2012 Stampin’ Up! convention bag sitting on the floor across from me?  Smile  Can you see the similarities?

    image

So, my projects are simple compared to some of the amazing scrapbooking layouts you will see with these templates, but I love how easy they make a touch of whimsy in my projects!  I will also admit that I get a lot of my scrapbooking ideas from Scrapbook Steal’s weekly MidWeek Mojo sketch challenges; but I didn’t realize how much mojo you can get from stacking and playing with these templates that give you lots of fun shapes and curves to work with!

Alright! So I’ve shared a lot with you today and I hope you enjoyed them!

Please, leave me a comment and let me know what you think of my projects and first foray into designing with border templates!  Plus, Scrapbook Steals will be giving away a $20 gift certificate to one lucky commenter from across all of the blog hop sites.

And now, check out some of the other awesome ideas shared by some SUPER TALENTED ladies!  Thanks again, Kerys, for the invitation and the chance to participate in the blog hop this month!

    Go hop and be inspired!

  • The Spring Catalog is Here & with Product Shares!

Are you ready for Spring yet?  I am still wishing for snow since we didn’t get any this year in my town… but at the same time, I am so ready to start looking at pretty new papers and the ideas of warmer days and new green growth!  So to fill that desire creatively, I’ve gotten to play with some super cute new items from the Spring Catalog!

I will admit, my surprising favorites so far are the honeycomb embossing folder, the two-tone ribbon (it isn’t really as two-toned as I expected, but I love the softness of the ribbon when you are using it!), and the AWESOME Tea for Two designer series paper.  But check it out for yourself!

  • Last Day for Stamps Like on this Snowflake Thank You

Day 2 of the new year, and with the new year means more new things!  So, to get ready for the NEW Spring Catalog, that means it is the LAST DAY for some of our favorites from the Holiday Catalog and more promotions!  So, I just wanted to give you a chance to check out and make sure you didn’t have something on your list that was going away tomorrow.

Don’t Miss These Items (last day to order 1/2/2012) –

    Single Stamps

Stampin’ Up! was trying out offering some extra single stamps as well as allowing you to pick and choose the stamps you wanted from a couple different sets.  They haven’t told us demonstrators how the trial went so I don’t know if they will continue to offer full sets broken up, but just in case not – here is what is available:

    imageimageimageimageimage

I love that some of them match the punches too… like this cool Bold Snowflake stamp.

    The Holiday Catalog

So, the Holiday Catalog ends today as well.  And though some of the items will still be available to purchase during the Spring Catalog period, there are some awesome things that are going away.  Here are my top 5 that are no longer going to be available:

    1.  Early Espresso and Cherry Cobbler Core’dinations Cardstock

    2.  Champagne Glimmer Paper

    3.  Frosty Friends snowman stamp

    4.  Mitten Builder Punch

    5.  Festival of Prints designer series paper stack

I really hope some of these come back in the next Annual catalog but there is no guarentee.  So, if you are like me and can’t get enough bling (sigh… champagne glimmer paper) or love those cutie patootie snowmen…. grab these while you can.

  • Thank You for an Awesome 2012 and now on to 2013!

We did it… we made it through 2012 and now can cheerfully welcome in 2013!  Its amazing to me how something so relatively simple (flipping a page on a calendar) can lead to such a re-energizing feeling!

But before I get to excited and enthusiastic to stride into the new year, I have to look back on 2012 and I realize how blessed I am to be surrounded by such amazing people.  So, I wanted to take a minute to say Thank You to all of you wonderful people who have made my life so much better for joining me on this adventure:

    1.  To the folks on my Stampin’ Up! team – you all are super awesome!  No seriously! Smile  I continue to be inspired, impressed, and amazed by the talent and enthusiasm they share with me regularly.  Even the folks who are totally new to stamping get me excited with their excitement and joy from trying this new adventure.

    2.  To my friends and customers – I know it is totally cheesy, but I love being able to help and support you.  I know that my life can get crazy and busy, but I appreciate that you have all continued to support me and allow me to serve you!

    3.  To everyone who visits my blog and my facebook page – seeing that people actually read my random posts is what keeps me going and motivated to continue to post here.  Not that I don’t like sharing and talking to myself, but it is way more fun to share and talk with someone else!  I hope I’ve been able to share some new and fun ideas and you’ll keep coming back for more in the new year!

And so with that, I thought I’d share a Thank You card… just for you!

So, I hope you have an amazing beginning to your 2013!

PS – don’t forget!  The holiday catalog ends TOMORROW!  So, if you have any favorites that aren’t carrying over, grab them now.  Then get ready for the Spring Catalog and Sale-a-Bration starting soon!

  • My Little Valentine with Greeting Card Kids

You may remember my somewhat recent watercoloring on glossy paper posting using this adorable Greeting Card Kids stamp set.  Well, I’m back at it again, this time with a Valentime’s Day theme.  I just loved this cute little girl and thought she needed to be colored up for the holiday.

It was the same idea, heat emboss the stamped image – this time in black – and grab my neglected aqua brush and get to work coloring and blending on glossy paper.  I tried my hand at shading with mixed results.

But then I preceeded to distract from… ahem, I mean highlight, the coloring with some brightly colored accents on the card. Smile  From the Real Red polka dot dsp from the Polka Dot Parade pack, to the wrapped Cherry Cobbler bakers twine… and just a touch of bling in the corner.  All adds up (I think) to a sweet little card that needs no sentiment at all.

And if you know me and how hard of a time I have leaving a card front sentiment-free, you know this is a big deal for me! ha ha!

So, grab your aqua pen and give it a whirl.  I promise it’s fun!

  • Finishing Up Christmas with Some Beautiful Cards

Its been such a whirlwind month around here with 2 birthdays down and Christmas behind us – only one more birthday in our family to go!  But I was fortunate enough to receive a few Christmas cards from my friends and I loved them so much that I just had to share!

First up, I love this vintage feel that Tanya created by her color choices of Very Vanilla naturals paper, Chocolate Chip, and Old Olive.  Plus the sponging around the edges to create a cool Christmas card.

    created by Tanya Cabral

I also received this cool Christmas card from Liz.  I loved the idea of using the Dazzling Details to make the glimmery dots around the Tulip Frame embossing folder.  I know the picture is a little dark, but it is so sparkly in person.

    created by Liz Mitchell

Plus she did her embossing on the Shimmer White paper.  I tried to catch it in the light…. can you see the shimmer? Smile

Well, I guess that wraps up Christmas projects for the year!  Now on to spring projects and new goodies from the Spring Catalog and Sale-a-Bration exclusive event!
