  • Double Slider Card and Last Day for Reason to Smile!

Alright, this post is going to be a quicky because I have an unplanned dentist appointment I have to head out to (don’t you just love those!)  But, I wanted to share a card we made recently at my Fun Folds class and remind everyone that if you haven’t ordered your Reason to Smile stamp set yet, TODAY is the LAST DAY it is available!

But here is the card we made:

I know, it doesn’t look like much… simple and basic card layout.  But wait!  There is more!

What’s that?  Pull the ribbon and you start to see the cute image appear….

Ta Da!!  A cute message appears!  This card is actually really easy to make once you have the dimensions for scoring and folding your base card.  I used a slightly different dimension set than what is in this article but this shows you how to make your own!

And don’t forget!  Today is the last day to get your Reason to Smile stamp set… plus it is only $5!  Check out all the details and let me know if you want to get your set today. 🙂

  • Have You Tried the Stamp-a-ma-jig?

So, I’ve been missing making videos and so I wanted to get back into the groove and so I started thinking about what would be a fun topic…. and so I decided to show folks how to use the Stamp-a-ma-jig!

This is one of those tools that most people don’t get past the name.  They either don’t have any idea what it is, or they think it sounds complicated and get intimidated.  Well, I’m here to tell you that it is actually really easy; and it is a lifesaver sometimes for cards where precision matters!

So, I decided to CASE myself and make a little card based on the card I posted a couple days ago.  Here is the finished product:

I LOVE the Natural Composition paper and the Whisper White looks really pretty against the Very Vanilla in person. And don’t forget, this flower stamp set (Reason to Smile) is only available for a few more days!  The last day to get it for only $5 is July 31st!

Anyway, the topic was all about using the stamp-a-ma-jig.  So, if you don’t have any idea how to use it or are curious about 2-step stamping, take a look at the following video.  And if you still have questions, drop me a line at jennifer@nwstamper.com and I’d be so happy to answer them for you!

  • Sweet and Simple Reason to Smile Card

I know that a lot of the samples people post out there are the gorgeous, works of art cards – and they are beautiful and inspirational to look at.  But sometimes you just need something sweet and simple… so here is an idea for you using the $5 Reason to Smile stamp set:

    Cute, right?!

All this is, is coloring in the outline stamp set with your markers and stamping on the right side of the card base.  Do some tone-on-tone stamping on a piece of cardstock, and then before you adhere it down to your card front, add a white piece of the Dotted Scallop Ribbon punch for a little bit of fringe.  Make a bow out of bakers twine and add a sentiment and you are done!

And did I mention the stamp set these flowers are from is only $5?  If you haven’t gotten your set yet, remember you only have until July 31st to order it.  With any $50 purchase, you can get this stamp set for $5.

  • Scallop Edged Reason to Smile

As I was working on cards for this month, I decided to grab my new Reason to Smile stamp set and start playing around again.  I was inspired by how the edgelits were used in the latest catalog and some ribbon I had on my shelf and found this new-to-me color combination:  Early Espresso, Calypso Coral, Whisper White, and River Rock.  LOVE!

I love how this card looks in real life and so I decided to use it, not only for my class on Friday, but this will be one of the cards in this month’s Cards to Go program

I’ll admit, this is my first time breaking out my scalloped edgelits.  However, I love the subtle lacy look they give the bottom of this card.  I also, started out without the extra layer of Whisper White (with the 3 flower images) and had a single flower image on the White cardstock below.  But it just needed something and after playing around with a scrap piece of paper, I thought the sponged edge gave the card an interesting look.

I wanted to leave you with one last tip about ordering your Reason to Smile stamp set (for only $5!).  If you are shopping online, you will need to look in the special offers box to add it to your order.  So, make sure you have selected $50 in product into your shopping cart and then you should see a link to select whether you want to add in the Reason to smile stamp set and in wood or clear mount.

  • Reason To Smile for only $5!

It’s a new month and for July, Stampin’ Up! has a new promotion starting up.  For July only, you can get the Reason to Smile stamp set for only $5 with a $50 purchase.  This set is only available this month and with 3 different flower images to do 2-step stamping with, there are lots of project options.  For example, this is a card I made with it last night:

I switched it up from using it in the traditional 2-step stamping style (stamping the outline and then laying in the filled colored image) and used the “background” images for the daisies on the left and then used the outlines for the images on the right.  And because I wanted to get a super bright coloring for the stemmed flowers, I ended up using my blender pens and ink pads to color them in.  For some reason, my markers on the “background” image for that flower were stamping darker than I wanted.  But, that is why we have multiple options for coloring stamped images, right?!

So, just the details on this stamp set:

    –  It is only going to be available in July.  It won’t be in the catalog or available later.

    –  You can pick clear mount OR wood mount for $5 with your $50 order

    –  Only one stamp per order

Check out all the images in this set in this flyer

If you are ready to get it, shop the online store or let me know and I’ll get you hooked up!

  • Getting Back to Watercolor Crayons

When I was asked recently to put together a card using Watercolor Crayons, I wasn’t sure how it was going to go; but I decided I was up for the challenge.  The person really liked a card by Meg Loven using the Simply Soft set and so I looked around my craft room and spied the new Reason to Smile stamp set (its coming out in July as part of a special promotion where you can get it for only $5 with any $50 order!).  It is a new 2-step stamping set and I thought it would be fun to try with the crayons.

Reason to Smile watercolored stamp set

I used the Watercolor Crayons two different ways:  coloring directly onto the stamp (for the petals and stem) and picking up color from the crayon using a waterbrush and coloring on the paper.  I have to say, making this card has renewed my love affair with Watercolor Crayons!

Thanks to this tip from Meg, I had MUCH BETTER success coloring on my stamp.  I grabbed my aqua pen for the first time in ages – I normally am loyal to my blender pen – and moistened the surface of the rubber before I colored with the crayon.  Boy does that help the crayon color nicely on the surface!  Then you can stamp and it is super pretty.

I then brushed my aqua pen along the back of the crayon (the flat end) and then used that to paint color around my stamped image on the paper.  Doesn’t it give such a pretty look?

The only other tip I have for you today, is if you are going to color on your paper like I did with the blue, you really really  want to be using watercolor paper!  You will be using so much water doing this that regular cardstock will warp a lot.

So, there you go… now grab your watercolor crayons and give it a try!  Its probably way more fun than you remember it being. 🙂
