2016 OnStage Display Board Samples–Tip Top Taupe!
Welcome to Day 2 of my display stamper shares for the 2016 OnStage Display Boards in Salt Lake City! Yesterday I kicked things off by sharing the samples I made with Watermelon Wonder and today I’m back with a little Tip Top Taupe for you.
As I mentioned yesterday, the way it worked is they asked me to create 20 samples, approximately 4 each focused on each of the returning In Colors. I did a mix of cards, 3D projects, and scrapbook pages – and I plan to have full blog posts for each project down the road, but I couldn’t wait to share them as a collection now… especially as we start getting excited for the new Annual catalog coming out on June 1st!
Let’s kick things off with one of my more simple but such a pretty color combination card –
I don’t know why it took me so long to discover Tip Top Taupe, Elegant Eggplant, and Whisper White as an amazing color combination! Seriously, you have to give it a try!
Or step away from the delicate and elegant style to a more contemporary, all occasion look. See, the You’re So Sweet stamp set isn’t just for going on the Mini treat bag (even though it has been in a great discounted bundle together… they go together fabulously but don’t hesitate to separate them. I promise, they can handle it! )
I made a fun little box. This guy is 2”x2” and was simply made by scoring cardstock and using the Scalloped Tag Topper…. did you spot that Affectionately Yours designer paper again?
And then, another case where I had photos begging to be scrapbooked! This was from a trip with my guy on Valentine’s Day weekend to San Francisco. I thought the boat from the Swirly Bird stamp set was a perfect touch to go with the photos. I also love making my titles using the Epic Alphabet! Yes, I stamped each letter, but it is easy and goes by quick because they are the clear photopolymer. Sadly, I didn’t realize it was being discontinued at the end of May… you better believe this one is staying in my collection too.

Easy Watercoloring with Birthday Blooms
So, just last week I had my Terrific Techniques class focused on heat embossing. I always forget how fun and how many options you get with heat embossing and when I remembered this card I made recently, I figured it was another great way to share one of the awesome things you can do with heat embossing – make watercoloring gorgeous and really easy! Check out this idea with the Birthday Blooms stamp set –
White Embossing Powder + Aqua Painters = Gorgeous Watercoloring!
I love how this flower seems to be this fragile, delicate image on the card. It is all thanks to the white embossing powder I started with! Heat emboss your image by stamping in Versamark Ink and then coating in White embossing powder.
TIP – Don’t forget to wipe the area first with your Embossing Buddy! This is REALLY important for images with fine lines and details! The embossing buddy de-statics your paper and makes sure stray embossing powder doesn’t stick to parts of your card that you don’t want it at.
Once you’ve heat set the embossing powder, it then acts like a guide for your watercoloring. I told the folks in class, it is like bowling with the bumpers down in the gutters! Use your Aqua Painters to pick up color from the lid of your ink pad and color over your image. You don’t have to worry about the ink sticking to the embossed areas, so just color straight over the top of them.
Since the embossed areas resist the ink, you end up with an amazing delicate result!
Don’t forget the finishing touches!
I pierced the edge of the my embossed cardstock … an no it isn’t hard to do! Grab the Essentials Piercing Pack and place the template with the rows of dots along the edge of your cardstock and start poking to your hearts content!
And yes, I realize there are dies out there now the do the poking for you, which is awesome… unless you have a piece of cardstock that you want to be a different size, or you want your dots to be closer or further from the edge. Just saying, it is nice to have options!
And then I had to punch out the sentiment from this same Birthday Blooms stamp set because I wanted to sponge the edge in Wisteria Wonder to match the flower and the card base. And then I just balanced out the flower by layering my sentiment over one of the small gold Metallic Doilies from the annual catalog. Seriously, why aren’t you all using these more… they rock!

Oh, and don’t forget to add the White Perfect Accents to the upper corner for the finishing touch. They come with adhesive on their back, so it is easy to just grab and go.

It’s a Love Thing! Inspire Create Share Blog Hop
Holy mackerel! Valentine’s Day has snuck up on me and I can’t believe we are less than a couple weeks away! Good thing is… there is still time to make your Valentine’s Day treats and cards. And yes, there is still time to order those last minute supplies and get them in time to play before the holiday! So, to get you all fired up and inspired for all the love-filled creations, I’m joining up with the Inspire, Create, & Share crew on a Blog Hop all about Love!
I’m one of 14 stops on the hop, so if you are joining me from Darla’s blog, welcome! I have a fun project to share today… a Valentine’s Treat Pouch I made as a bonus project for my Stamp Club. It is fun to make and quicker than you might think!
Jennifer’s Project Tips:
- It all starts with an adorable owl – The very first thing I designed for this project was the Owl. If you haven’t used the Owl Builder punch before, you are missing out on so many cute projects! From owls, to penguins, to reindeer, it is a super versatile punch!
  But even when you are making a simple owl, don’t hesitate to dress her up! I used the small flower flourish from the Bloomin’ Love stamp set and stamped it onto a scrap of Pink Pirouette cardstock before punching out the tummy for my owl. It is like she is wearing a pretty dress! Then punch out two of the hearts from the same punch and glue them together over her ear for instant bow. BAM! Cute or Super Cute??
- Create a custom treat holder with the Envelope Punch Board – I was trying to decide what to put my owl on, when it hit me! I could use the envelope punch board along with the cute Love Blossoms paper stack to quickly make the treat holders.
  – Start with a 6×6 piece of patterned paper (good thing this paper pack comes as a 6×6 pack!)
  – Use the envelope punch board to create an envelope. Start at the 2 5/8″ score line and score and punch as normal.on all sides (video tutorial for the punch board).
  – fold in 3 of the sides but do NOT fold and press the 4th side.
  – decorate to your heart’s content!
- Have fun with layers! I next created the sentiment – the banner stamp and the sentiment are both from the same Bloomin’ Love stamp set, but did you know? The banner has a matching framelit over in the Large Numbers framelit set! Or trim by hand. Either way works. I stamped my banner first and THEN added my sentiment. But then don’t stop there, add more layers! Try wrapping the treat bag with the Watermelon Wonder satin ribbon and then layering your sentiment and the owl.
  – Want extra credit? Keep it going! Add a gold metallic doily to the front of the bag and adhere a 2 1/2” Crumb Cake cardstock circle for a shiny backdrop.
- But what adhesive to use for what? I used a few different adhesives for this project so I thought you might like a quick guide for it:
  – Holding together your treat bag = Fast Fuse, you want something stronger than your average tape to make sure your treat doesn’t come apart!
  – Layering your Owl = 2-way glue pen, with all these small pieces you are trying to stick together, the glue pen is easy to handle and not messy with your little pieces
  – Attaching your Owl = I used one Stampin’ Dimensional to keep her in place
  – Everything else = viewers choice! Though my preference is for SNAIL or Fast Fuse, basically some kind of tape runner

Using up Some Scraps with Acorny Thank You
As I’m clearing off my desk and getting ready for the new year and the new Occasions Catalog, I am trying to use of scraps and bits and pieces from my desk. It really is a fun challenge to see what neat new designs you can come up with using up those bits left over from other projects. This this card using the Acorny Thank You left overs from a prior card plus some scraps from the Into the Woods designer paper.
Once again, I loved being able to use a paper for a different season then I had stuck in my mind. Its pretty and bright and I love pairing it with the Acorn punch.
Plus add in some Gold Metallic Thread and a Metallic doily and you really have some sunny shine to share with someone.
TIP – If you are trying to do the looping thread look behind an element – like this acorn – coat the back of the item with a bunch of Snail tape runner. Then start by pressing the end of the Gold Thread onto the back of the element, so that it is held by the tape runner. Then continue making loops, pressing into the tape on the back of the acorn each time you loop. Then, when you are done, help secure it in place by pressing a Stampin’ Dimensional over where most of the threads cross to give extra security, plus a way to pop-up your element off your card.
So, don’t let your fall and Christmas papers languish in the back of your paper shelf or drawer now that the seasons are past. Mix them up and use them for any season! I bet you can find some creative uses for them.

Lightly Sponged Woodland Thanks Card
As we are winding down our Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I’m trying to get back to my computer and back in the groove of getting all of these project photos off my camera and up on the blog to share. Because, making projects is fun… sharing them is even MORE fun!
Today, I have a card I put together using the Woodland embossing folder and some simple sponging! We were told the night before Thanksgiving that this embossing folder is close to selling out permanently, so if this was on your wishlist, I wouldn’t wait too long to get it! I’m waiting to see when Stampin’ Up opens tomorrow if we have an update on it, but for now you can still orders yours in the online store.
Tips for making this card:
- Keep the colors simple – You know me, I love clean and simple cards. The trick is to pick a couple neutral colors and one to two brighter colors to add the POP of color! In this case, I stuck with Very Vanilla, Soft Suede, Gold, and Rich Razzleberry for my pop!
- Try sponging your embossing folders – The woodland embossing folder is perfect for this technique! Run your paper through the embossing folder and then when it comes out, use a sponge dauber to lightly rub ink over the raised areas!
- Help the word die cuts pop out quick & easy – I waited to share the Precision Plate for the BigShot with folks in my class until I could really see why it made a difference. And using these thin word dies, I DO see a difference! I find the words are much easier to pop out when I use the precision plate, as well as especially when you are using easily dentable paper like the foil papers, you don’t get the “polka dot effect” of the paper pushing up into the holes in the die. So, now I ALWAYS use my precision plate when cutting out thin word dies.
- Extend your Metallic Doilies to the perfect size – I have been loving the Metallic Doilies (and love that they are 30% off through tomorrow in the Online Extravaganza sale!) and they often give me the right touch of shine on my card. But sometimes you need them to be just a little bit bigger than they are. So, grab those scissors and snip away! I cut one of the smaller doilies in half and stretched it out so some peeked out above and below my sentiment!
- Use the fine tip glue pen for glueing details diecuts a breeze – the thin lines of the words and the metallic doilies can sometimes be a challenge to glue. Thankfully, the Fine Tip glue pen makes it easy to get it all glued without the glue showing!
  Here is the trick: Use the glue from the fine tip glue pen sparingly! Don’t draw the lines of the paper with the glue, instead place dots of glue in areas with larger spots of paper and use the tip of the glue pen to spread the glue out along the finer lines! This keeps the glue from smooshing out the sides.
