Two Washi Tape Techniques, One Thank You Card

In the meantime, I have one more project sharing a few fun items on their way out today:
We made this in last week’s Washi Tape technique class and had fun with TWO washi tape techniques on this card… can you spot them?
We can start with the obvious one, using Washi Tape to create a background designer paper. I used the In Color washi tape bundle and wrapped all 5 patterns repeatedly across a 3×4 Project Life grid card. It just makes it bright and vibrant, and when using the grid cards, its easy because no cutting is involved!
Then we punched out the shape to create a window for our sentiment (the Thank you from the Tin of Cards stamp set) and layered it over another Project Life grid card. The fun thing is these cards have grid lines on one side and plain white on the other. So you can use the white side for layering your washi tape over and then the grid lines for a different texture behind. Pop the top card up on dimensionals over the bottom piece and stamp the sentiment in Blackberry Bliss ink.
We also added two of the Home for Christmas Enamel dots to just pull it all together.
Then under the cards, I did the second technique! We used the washi tape pieces to PICK UP INK from the ink pad. Just set the strip of tape down on your ink pad and gently run your finger across to get it to pick up ink. Then pull the washi tape up and place it on your cardbase. We used Lost Lagoon ink on Lost Lagoon cardstock. Gently rub the washi tape on your card front and then peel up… it will leave behind the cool ink stripes! I promise, I’ll do a video on this shortly.
Layer it all over the retiring Into the Woods cotton ribbon in Rich Razzleberry and your card is cute, pulled together, and really fun to make! So grab that washi tape (there is a TON on sale in the Year-End Clearance Sale) and start playing!

Lightly Sponged Woodland Thanks Card
As we are winding down our Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I’m trying to get back to my computer and back in the groove of getting all of these project photos off my camera and up on the blog to share. Because, making projects is fun… sharing them is even MORE fun!
Today, I have a card I put together using the Woodland embossing folder and some simple sponging! We were told the night before Thanksgiving that this embossing folder is close to selling out permanently, so if this was on your wishlist, I wouldn’t wait too long to get it! I’m waiting to see when Stampin’ Up opens tomorrow if we have an update on it, but for now you can still orders yours in the online store.
Tips for making this card:
- Keep the colors simple – You know me, I love clean and simple cards. The trick is to pick a couple neutral colors and one to two brighter colors to add the POP of color! In this case, I stuck with Very Vanilla, Soft Suede, Gold, and Rich Razzleberry for my pop!
- Try sponging your embossing folders – The woodland embossing folder is perfect for this technique! Run your paper through the embossing folder and then when it comes out, use a sponge dauber to lightly rub ink over the raised areas!
- Help the word die cuts pop out quick & easy – I waited to share the Precision Plate for the BigShot with folks in my class until I could really see why it made a difference. And using these thin word dies, I DO see a difference! I find the words are much easier to pop out when I use the precision plate, as well as especially when you are using easily dentable paper like the foil papers, you don’t get the “polka dot effect” of the paper pushing up into the holes in the die. So, now I ALWAYS use my precision plate when cutting out thin word dies.
- Extend your Metallic Doilies to the perfect size – I have been loving the Metallic Doilies (and love that they are 30% off through tomorrow in the Online Extravaganza sale!) and they often give me the right touch of shine on my card. But sometimes you need them to be just a little bit bigger than they are. So, grab those scissors and snip away! I cut one of the smaller doilies in half and stretched it out so some peeked out above and below my sentiment!
- Use the fine tip glue pen for glueing details diecuts a breeze – the thin lines of the words and the metallic doilies can sometimes be a challenge to glue. Thankfully, the Fine Tip glue pen makes it easy to get it all glued without the glue showing!
  Here is the trick: Use the glue from the fine tip glue pen sparingly! Don’t draw the lines of the paper with the glue, instead place dots of glue in areas with larger spots of paper and use the tip of the glue pen to spread the glue out along the finer lines! This keeps the glue from smooshing out the sides.

A Howl-o-Ween Trick or Treat Bag
My kids are so excited that Halloween is just a day away – and after some last minute Halloween candy shopping, I think we are all ready to go! Now if you are looking for something fun to do for your Halloween party or favorite trick or treaters, I thought I would share this little goodie bag I put together using the fun Howl-o-Ween bundle with my oh so favorite adorable owl!
A few runs through the Big Shot and this comes together really easily. Here are some Tips for making this bag:
- Make life easy on yourself and start with the Kraft Tag-a-Bag gift bags. They are packs of 10 ready-to-go bags that are food safe for only $3.50. Perfect for stamping or embellishing!
- Pick your highlighted element – the star of the bag if you will… for mine, it was the owl from the Howl-o-Ween Treat stamp set & bundle:
- I stamped the “treat” from the “trick or treat” sentiment onto a piece of scrap cardstock and then sponged it with Delightful Dijon ink. Rip the ends of the white strip for a more interesting “rough edge” look before sponging!
- Then stamp your owl and cut him out using the matching framelit. Gotta love things that make it easy to cut out! Now, the one thing you will notice once you do that is that when you layer your sentiment over your owl, his feet are covered up! Now that is no good! But it is an easy fix!Do a little surgery on your owl by cutting him in half along the top of his tummy stripes. Then glue him to the back of your sentiment so that his arms are holding the sign and his feet are sticking out the bottom!
- And do you see his eyes? How fun are those?! Just take the White Perfect Accents and place one on top of each of his eyes, then color in the centers with a black sharpie. Easy, almost-googlie eyes in seconds!
- My owl needed a fun hat too… so back to the Howl-o-ween stamp set I went, and stamped the hat in Rich Razzleberry and then added some fun accents by adding Black Glimmer paper stars over the white stars!How did I get those stars you ask? Just grab your Star confetti punch and a scrap of Black Glimmer paper and punch away! Pick up a few of the confetti pieces and glue down using the Fine Tip Glue pen or your favorite liquid glue.
- Finally layer everything down on your treat bag including some strips of your favorite patterned papers. I used the In Color Envelope Paper in Delightful Dijon to add some stripes, then a tiny strip of Black Glimmer Paper covered by a piece of the Into the Woods Razzleberry ribbon. Seriously people! This ribbon is so yummy to work with!!
- Stamp the rest of the “Trick or” above your striped paper, add some extra confetti stars, and of course the Jack-o-lantern from the Howl-o-Ween bundle for our owl to collect his treats in!
And if you don’t have this stamp set yet… it is still worth the add! I know I’ll be using it for scrapbook pages since all the images are a really good size for layouts. Plus, I’ve already seen some fun ideas that I’m going to start playing with for using the owl and hat die for Christmas and even Thanksgiving pilgrims! So stay tuned for that!
