    weekly deal 3-25-14

See all the details and shop the sale here

Love that core’dinations paper!  Its like cardstock, textured cardstock, and a cool sanding medium in one!  One of the color families that is on sale this week is the Subtles collection…wanna see it in action?  Check out this cute card by Breelin Renwick (she shared it with Annie Lee, who shared with me)!

Those pretty colors are:  Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder, and Calypso Coral.  And when you emboss the Pool Party core’dinations cardstock with the Decorative Dots embossing folder, you can sand the bumps to show the lighter blue core instead.

Also, love how she combined the Banner Blast stamp set (and Banner punch) with the Hearts a Flutter stamp set and framelits!  Don’t they layer so well together?

And if you are trying to remember what all your options were for free stuff this month… here is the full list again!

This week, I’ll be sharing lots of projects using my favorites from the Sale-a-Bration flyer!  So, come on back throughout the week to help get more ideas for how you can use your fabulous freebies!

    • Scrapbooking Sunday: This Paper is not just for Valentine’s Day!

When I first saw the More Amore Designer Paper and the Hearts a Flutter stamp set I had Valentine’s Day on the brain.  And in fact I originally got both for a Valentine’s Day treat class I was holding earlier this year.

But as I started going through pictures and wanting to scrap this picture from Leadership convention with my mom, I saw the quote printed on the paper and thought it would be just right.

      The quote is

A loving heart is the truest wisdom – Charles Dickens

Perfect for a picture of my mom who flew out to Orlando, FL with me from Seattle, WA to share the learning and excitement of Leadership and my first time being eligible to attend Manager’s Reception.

So with my base paper chosen, I started adding embellishments and it turned out the Hearts a Flutter stamp set and framelits fit my mood just right.

I grabbed some scrap fabric from the retired Springtime Vintage collection to add textured borders instead of my usual paper layering.  Then I tucked in some banners I cut out using the coordinating framelits.

For the journaling block, I just created an extended photo mat with Very Vanilla paper to give me space for my writing and then added some stamping and a little bit of ribbon to separate the journaling from the picture.

It turned out to be a fairly quick layout but one that I love for the great memories it captures!

    • Scrapbooking Sunday: Using Stamps as Accents on a Baby Page!

I know it is St. Patrick’s Day and so I should be posting something green, but I finished this scrapbook page for my daughter and just had to share it with everyone for this week’s Scrapbooking Sunday!  So, you can virtually pinch me but I hope you enjoy the ideas for this weeks layout.

I’ve been trying to get through some of the recent backlog of photos I printed opportunistically and then never got scrapped.  Smile  This is one of the photos from right before we left the hospital after she was born.  I may not look my best, but it is one of the few pictures of I have of her and me and so I’ll love it no matter how I look.

This whole layout actually started with me wanting to use the elephant from the Patterned Occasions stamp set exclusively available during Sale-a-Bration but to use it for a baby scrapbook page.  So I grabbed my Pink Pirouette marker and started coloring the elephant and making an elephant parade.

One thing I noticed is that the markers are so juicy and the pattern of the elephant is so intricate that extra ink gets caught in the spaces so it wasn’t as crisp of an image.  But I didn’t care and couldn’t be bothered to try again using a post-it note to mask the stamp itself.

But then I tried again using a mix of colors for one more fun elephant accent.  This time I left the flower in the image and cut it all out.  I accented it with a 1 1/4” scallop circle punched out of Pink Pirouette cardstock.

Finally, I needed a little more something at the top of my page and my Hearts a Flutter stamp set and framelits was exactly what I needed.  I just adhered my baker’s twine across the top of the page and tucked my banners under the twine where I wanted them.

I even like the Summer Starfruit designer paper from the Sale-a-Bration flyer (Sycamore Street designer paper) as my background even though initially I was not a fan at all of this pattern. Smile

    • Hearts a Flutter Skinny Bag Treat Toppers

Alright, one more day of this belated-Valentine treat ideas!  Today are some treat bags I put together as examples for a friend of what she could do with the Hearts a Flutter stamp set and framelits, and the 1”x8” skinny cello bags.

So, this is the first round of ideas I was playing with.  All are variations on the same theme, but all slightly different.  See —

And as I was making these toppers, I found myself thinking that the Pink Pirouette cardstock that was the base was just a bit too plain, so I had to do some extra stamping of course!

This was the project that made me discover how much I love the look of the tone-on-tone stamping of the “little hearts in a heart shape” stamp image and then randomly stamping the outline heart stamp on top in Early Espresso ink.  It may be subtle but I just LOVE IT!

      image

      TIPS:

      • When I am assembling these skinny cello bags, I put the opening to the bag at the bottom of the project (aka – opposite end as the treat topper).  That way, if someone wants to get at the treat but not eat/use all of it, they can have some and then seal it up and not destroy the topper!
      • For making my toppers, I cut rectangles and folded them over the end of the cello bag.  Then used sticky strip to seal them closed:

So, again, change out the colors and the sentiment and you could have some cute Easter basket treat ideas!

    • Hershey’s Nugget Treat Box with Hearts a Flutter

Ok, ok, I know Valentine’s Day was yesterday but I got behind on my blogging and still had some cute projects that I wanted to share.  So Pin these projects or save the pictures so you can remember them for next year – or change up the colors and stamps and make cute little goodies for Easter or Mother’s Day!

First up – a cute little box for holding Hershey’s nuggets and a matching card!

I grabbed some of the Love Impressions Specialty Paper – now found on the clearance rack for only $4.79 a pack! – and got to work decorating.

I used my Heart punch and the Hearts a Flutter stamp set and framelits to create the decoration on the front of the card.

Then I used more of the paper to wrap my nuggets so they look cute when you slide the box out of the sleeve.  The nugget wraps were 1” x 3.5” if you are going to do this at home.  So you can get a TON out of one sheet of pattern paper.

Then I made a matching 4” x 4” card to go with the box.  Here is a close up of the “fun” part of the card!

      TIPS:

      • Grab the hearts embossing folder from the Adorning Accents embossing folder set.  These are not at wide as your standard embossing folder, but are perfect for adding a fun trim to your cards.
      • Stamp your sentiment on a rectangle of whisper white cardstock and sponge the edge with Pink Pirouette ink for a subtle pop to your saying.
      • Get the cute scallop trim by cutting out 2 of the scallop tags from the Hearts a Flutter framelits and adhere them to the back of your rectangle!

      image

If you want to make your own nugget box, I found this great post on SplitcoastStampers where a wonderful stamper named Chris posted templates for pretty much every size and shape of nugget box.  I used the Nugget_Box_6_short template.

      So, make and enjoy!

    • Sweet Party Invitation & a Quick Idea for Using Fabric on Your Cards

If you want an idea for a fun handmade invitation – whether a shower invitation or birthday party invitation, check out today’s post as I play with cute colors and fabulous fabric as part of this month’s Stylin’ Stampin’ Squad blog hop.

You’ve seen the cute fabric patterns out there and love the idea of using fabric in your crafting projects… but if you are like me, that often means piles of fat quarters languishing in a drawer or on a shelf.  I’m serious, I have a tall stack of fabric in my drawer behind my craft table!

Well, I’m here to give you an idea for using your fabric in a way that is super quick and can add some pizzazz to your projects.  Check it out:

You may be thinking, “that is it?”  And I’ll tell you – Yep!  See, the cool thing is it took me just a few seconds to rip a strip of my fabric but that rip gave me an awesome fringe that adds just a bit of texture to the card, not to mention the fibers of the fabric.

Anyway, in real life I really liked the contrast of the Melon Mambo in the fabric with the Melon Mambo in the cardstock on the banner.  I also mixed and matched the height and colors of the banner pieces – all elements from the Hearts a Flutter stamp set and coordinating framelits.  Then a final touch with one of the flowers from the Flower Trim that has been sponged with a Sponge Dauber to have pink edges.

Finally, my last cool touch – the bows on the banner!

Why are these bows cool?  Because they totally match!  Did you notice?  They are made from the extra threads that came off when I ripped the fabric strip.  So, it was an easy way to effortlessly have matching “twine” to go with your project.

When I finished and needed a sentiment, I was just drawn to the “You’re Invited” stamp from the Oh Hello stamp set.  So, I’ve decided this is a great invitation whether for a birthday, wedding shower, or baby shower… or I guess whatever else you could imagine!  Does anyone else see “party” too?

Now, if you want even more ideas for how to use fabric in your crafting projects, hop on by to the next stop on tour and be ready for some FAB ideas!
