  • The Convention Swap that Made Me Need the Alphabet Rotary Stamp

~~ LAST DAY to Shop the Holiday Extravaganza ~~
~~ Join Stampin’ Up with me & pick out $125 in any catalog or sale items to receive for only $74.25!~~

With all the hub bub about the Online Extravaganza, I was looking through the list and seeing the things I loved and the items I totally wanted to grab.  For example, the Alphabet Rotary Stamp.  I had seen it in the past and didn’t think much of it, but now that it is 50% off Today ONLY, I thought I would share the card that got me super excited about it.

This was a convention display board card by Jeanna Bohanon that I received as a swap card this last summer.  I’ve totally been meaning to share it but thought now would be a great time.  Can’t we all use a little sunny rainbow in our day?  I also love how complicated it looks, but how simple it is to create!  My kind of card!

    Tips for making this card:

    • Heat emboss your image (in this case the LOVE from Seasonally Scattered) with white embossing powder.  Then do some quick coloring with your Stampin’ Write markers over the top of the embossing powder.  The dye-based ink will not stick to the embossed image, letting the white show through.
    • Add your own sentiment touch by using the Alphabet Rotary stamp!  It gives you 13 spaces for numbers, letters, or characters including these cute hearts.  You can add spaces too so you could make it be more than one word.  It is a perfect way to add your own touch to sentiments on your card.
    • Add some scraps from your craft table, like some Black Chevron Ribbon (or pick one of the colors that is on sale today for 50% off too!), some Brights buttons, twine, or even that cute 1/8” Silver Taffeta ribbon.

I can’t wait to play with my rotary stamp and have fun making lots of customized sentiments for my cards and scrapbooking!

  • Teacher Appreciation Card for Cute Card Thursday

It’s the last Thursday of the month, which means it is my final week as guest designer over at Cute Card Thursday.  This week is a fun challenge, the theme is

    Too Cool for School

Now, since I’ve been out of school long enough, all I could think of were 80’s movies (like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) or the fact that we are nearing the end of the school year and I know enough teachers and how hard they work that they deserve a little appreciation.

So to all the teachers out there…. THANK YOU for your hard work this year!

When I started flipping through my paper and supplies, I knew I wanted to use my Storytime designer paper for the card.  I mean, look at these patterns, don’t they just scream school house to you? Smile

    image

It is totally a Dick and Jane book!

Anyway, this is one of those paper packs that I pull out and think… awww its so cute!  And then I argue with myself about whether I need more of it because it is so cute or if I’m ok with using the last few scraps and getting excited about new paper designs coming out soon!  I guess I have a few more days before it retires on June 3rd as long as it doesn’t sell out before then!

So while I ponder my final list of “have to haves” from the retiring Spring Catalog and Annual Catalog, hop on over to Cute Card Thursday to check out the other cute school-themed cards and even submit your own for the challenge!

  • Bye Bye Button Buddies–more class samples

I really need to do this more often… hold a class (or just challenge myself) to create a set of cards using each of the stamps in a stamp set.  When I did this for my All Occasions card class focusing on Button Buddies, I was stumped on one or two stamp sets but loved the challenge of trying to do something different with each of the images (especially with trying to not do a Halloween or Thanksgiving card using the pumpkin stamp!)

This was the card most people picked as their favorite from the class:

I had fun with the bright colors and I pulled out the Striped Organdy ribbon from the spring catalog to add a little extra in the middle.

And then there was the pumpkin card…  I was a bit stuck on fall and Thanksgiving and so I kept it in theme and made it a thank you card!

We colored in the pumpkin image with markers and then stamped 3 times without reinking.  So:

    1. Color your image and stamp the center pumpkin
    2. Immediately stamp the pumpkin to the left of your center pumpkin
    3. Immediately stamp the pumpkin to the right of your center pumpkin
    4. Clean the stamp

That gives you the stamped images but slightly faded for the main image.  Then add a matching button and you get that extra pop!

So if you decide to go for the stamp set…. don’t forget to grab the matching buttons too!  They are even 40% off!

  • Button Buddies Send Off Event Samples

As I was looking through the new catalog sneak peek that demonstrators got yesterday, I was excited by the changes with the designer buttons and realized this meant that all of the current designer buttons that match the color families would be retiring.  What I didn’t realize at first was that meant that my beloved Button Buddies stamp set would be retiring too!

  • Gate Fold Card with a Window

I thought I’d share another card that we created recently in my Fun Folds class.  I had first done this card style for the folks in my Cards to Go program in June but thought it would be a fun style to do in my class here this month.  So I switched up the colors and paper to make this card:

I often do the gate fold card when I am showing different folds option, but I liked how this card has the fun window in the middle to “peek a boo” to the inside of the card.  In this case, I just layered the two different sizes of Scallop Circle punches and the Button Buddies stamp set.

Oh, and in case you are wondering about the designer paper – it actually comes from the Twitterpated designer series paper pack!  I would never have thought to look for a pattern like this in that kit but I was flipping through and it just jumped out to me as perfect!

And if you are interested in getting project kits or instructions mailed to you each month for fun new cards

  • Birthday Butterflies and a Get Well Card

Alright, so last time I shared with you the Love card we made at my card night.  So, today I wanted to share the other two cards we made that night.  Both are inspired by cards I found in an old Stampin’ Up! Idea Book & Catalog.  Of course they turned out pretty different, and I wish it wasn’t against Stampin’ Up! copyright rules or I would show you a picture of the originals next to the version below.  Oh well, you just get to enjoy the version I made then. Smile

First was a clean and simple get well card.  I love this stamp from the Wellness Wishes set.  It just makes me want to hug the puppy and say,” Awwwww”.  So, we used watercolor pencils to color him in (and I’ll admit the girls that night did a much more artistic and cool version of watercoloring than I did).  We wrapped around some Black satin ribbon and then added a Circle brad.  The So Saffron cardstock was popped up using dimensionals and its as simple as that!

Tip:  If you are going to use watercolor pencils on Whisper White paper, I recommend using a blender pen to moisten the pencil coloring.  You can use a water pen, but I find that it is too easy for there to be extra water, which causes your paper to wrinkle up a bit.

Finally, we did a birthday card.  Well, really it was a neutral card and I put out the entire Sincere Salutations set so some people did birthday, some did thank you, while others did Thinking of You.  Got to love a sentiment set that has it all in interchangeable sizes.  We used a background stamp (Pretty Petals) to add a pattern to the base Crumb Cake layer.  Then, stamped the butterflies from the Dreams Du Jour set and sentiment on a Very Vanilla piece.  Tear off a corner of your Vanilla paper and add a Designer Button and you are ready to go.

Tip:  Crumb Cake ink makes a great subtle color on your neutral papers like in this case.  You can get a great shadow effect by stamping your image on the paper in Crumb Cake and then stamping your image with a darker ink (in this case Concord Crush) on a piece of scrap paper and layering it over one of the Crumb Cake images.  Slightly offset your cutout and the base image will show enough to look like a shadow!

Interested in making cards like these?

If you like these cards and are in the San Francisco area, I’d love to have you join me at one of my upcoming events.  Check out my calendar or contact me to set up your own private event for free with you and your friends!  I’d love to show you how to make more fun cards and scrapbook layouts!

  • The Occasion Mini is here

Occasions11_USHave you had a chance to check out the Occasion Mini catalog yet?  This year I think they’ve done a great job of offering a wide range of stamps and accessories – from vintage to modern, masculine to sewing notions, plus NEW PUNCHES!!  I love punches, especially when they match stamp sets, so it was so fun to get to see a punch and matching stamp set for building a flower (it punches out the flower petals and leaves) and building a cupcake.  I still need to finish up the projects we started when my mom came to visit over the holidays but I can’t wait to share them with you as I do.

But until then, I wanted to share a card that was posted on my demonstrator website.  It was created by Stampin’ Up! but just love how fun it is!  It uses some new stamps, paper, buttons, and pom pom ribbon.  These are from the Sew Suite collection and I love seeing how you can use them in fun modern ways.

So check out the mini and I’d love to hear what you think.  My favorite item right now is the Botanical Gazette designer paper.  What is your favorite?
