  • Snowman Card for this Weekend’s Stamp-a-Stack

When I was getting ready for Creating Keepsakes this year, I decided to highlight the Button Buddies stamp set and made a set of fun cards using each of the stamps in the set.  One of my favorite cards was using the snowman stamp… so much so that I decided to use it for my last Christmas Stamp-a-Stackthis coming Sunday.

I love cards like this that look detailed but are simple to create.  A couple punches ( 2 3/8” Scallop punch and the Scallop edge punch), an embossing folder (Perfect Polka Dots), and some stitched grosgrain ribbon.  And tada!

Oh, and it was hard to show in the picture but I outlined the Whisper White circle with Dazzling Details glitter glue to add a touch of sparkle to the card.

If you like this card…. did you know you can get Button Buddies for only $10.98?!  Check out some of the great deals that go great with this card and stamp set:

  • Fluttering Hearts Wedding Card with Framelits

I love it when I find a great idea for a card that I can tweak and make my own (with so much amazing talent and inspiration out there… its nice to have some brilliant ideas to start from!)

Well, today’s card came from a mass-produced card I saw probably 9 months back.  I wish I had saved the original photo so I could say where exactly it was from – but since I took way longer to make my version than I expected, I’m totally drawing a blank.  So, let me describe what I saw – it was a simple white card with butterfly wings partially cut out of the white cardfront and a solid color showing through under the wings.  The wings were still attached to the cardfront, they just were bent up for dimension.

I thought it was one of the prettiest cards I had seen in a while!

However, I couldn’t figure out how to make a card with partial cut-outs on my cardfront, so I went with the next best thing – Framelits!

Yep! I placed my Hearts framelits in the middle of the page and cut out my hearts.  Then I adhered a piece of Island Indigo cardstock behind my Whisper White card front.  Crease the hearts and adhere the creased line to the Island Indigo paper to make the heart line back up.

I bent up the edges and added some Dazzling Details to the centers of each heart to add a little sparkle.  So you get the peek-a-boo effect with the Island Indigo below the hearts.

Add some ruffled ribbon and a tag made with the Jewelry Tag punch and Tiny Tags stamp set, and you have a pretty card that would be perfect for a wedding or anniversary.

It also looks like a lot of work, but actually, aside from waiting for the Dazzling Details to dry, it is pretty easy!

Oh, and if anyone figures out doing this with butterflies, please let me know because I’d love to try it!

  • Sponged Holiday Ornament Card for the Stamp-a-Stack

Last night I was finished up the final design touches and prepping for my first Christmas Card stamp-a-stack this weekend.  I need to get the cards photographed so I can share some of the fun things we will be doing but I really wanted to get at least one up today so I hope you don’t mind the more “rough” photography I did for this one card.  🙂

I wanted to have a good mix of colors for the cards so they weren’t all red/green combos, so I started thinking blue and that got me thinking sponging for whatever reason.  So, this card started coming together.  We are going to be punching out an ornament shape from some cardstock (the backing from the designer series paper packs you get) to use as a mask for our Whisper White base.  Then we will sponge using Baja Breeze and Island Indigo to make the mottled ornament shapes.  Add a bit of Dazzling Details for their “strings” and they make a nice background.

The front ornament is stamped in Island Indigo and punched out with the Ornament punch but if it looks a little funny to you, that is because we are going to cover it with Shimmer Paint!  It gives it a really pretty shimmery sheen when you stamp.  Check it out:

To get this look, you ink up your stamp in your color of choice, and then take a sponge dauber and dab it in your Shimmer Paint.  Tap the sponge dauber all over the surface of your inked stamp to add the shimmer and then stamp like normal!  Very pretty effect!

Add a rhinestone to the middle and some Whisper White bakers twine for the string and you are done!  Its an easy card with a lot of pizzazz  I may have to do more of these for my own personal Christmas cards this year. 🙂

  • Snow Much Fun Convention Swaps & Checkin Day!

Woo hoo!  Convention is here and it was a busy day in Salt Lake City for me yesterday.  I spent the first night in town (Tuesday night) finishing up my swaps and getting settled in after arriving late in the evening.  I wanted to use Dazzling Details (Stampin’ Up!’s glitter glue) on my cards so I glittered them up and had them all out to dry around the room. Smile

The end result, I think, turned out pretty nice.  Unfortunately I had a heck of a time taking a picture in the light of the hotel room that shows the glitter, but I think you can tell here:

This was one of my two swaps and today I can’t wait to swap like crazy.  I’ve already seen some super cute cards and I know there will be tons more today!

But yesterday was filled with picking up our bags:

and visiting Momento Mall!  (If you want to see more Momento Mall photos, check out my facebook page where I posted a bunch of pictures from yesterday)IMAG0003

Then we got an early peak at display boards and product showcases including checking out the new trimmer!  Did you know that the new trimmer has a lock so that the plastic blade guide (where you slide the cutter up and down) so that it doesn’t flop open when you are putting it in your bag for crops?  And the numbers are under the laminate on the platform so they won’t rub off??  Oh, I hope they announce that it is releasing soon!

  • Scrapbooking Sunday: Mixed Bunch page

Since the end of last year, I’ve started to get on a scrapbooking kick.  I realized that I had a lot more fun and was much faster with scrapbook pages when I started from a sketch and so I started playing along with some sketch challenges.  This was a page I created based on a sketch by the very talented Kristy Lee.

Normally, I am one of those people who try to jam a million 4×6 pictures onto a 12×12 scrapbook page; so the idea of only having one picture is definitely outside of my comfort zone.  However, I loved this picture and it stood alone well for the story (Nicholas getting his first tooth) that I just went for it.

It also meant I had lots of space to fill with other elements on the page.  So I grabbed my new Mixed Bunch stamp set and matching Blossom punch from the Occasions mini and am pretty sure I used every stamp in the set!

I punched and popped up the flowers with varying heights to add some dimension to the page.  And then I added some extra accents for fun – a brad here, some dazzling details on the Tangerine Tango center of the white flower (hard to see in the picture), and some Crystal Effects on the green flower thing.

You can also kind of see in this picture how I had fun sponging the letters for my title.  I busted out my Big Shot to cut them out but thought white was too stark.  So, thanks to the awesome color matching-ness of Stampin’ Up papers and inks, I was able to pull in the colors of the papers by sponging the coordinating inks across the letters (well, I actually sponged the paper and then cut out the letters, but you get the idea).  This was a new idea for me; and I’m definitely going to have to do it again.
