This was one of the samples we made in the vellum class 🙂

    Pedal Pushers

I made a quick notecard using the Pedal Pushers stamp set thanks to the quick and easy Notecards and Envelopes.  A little washi tape, some twine, and paper and you have a quick and cute card.

I stamped the bike with Memento ink and then colored in with my markers.  Don’t you just love that little bird in the basket?  Don’t forget to sponge the edges and round the bottom corner!

Then add some pizzazz with some of the It’s My Party designer paper on the left side and cover the seam with some Washi tape.  This is the Stacked with Love washi tape that is on the clearance rack!  You can totally score some great deals here like sets of 3 washi tape rolls for $2!  And Clearance Rack stuff counts for Sale-a-Bration totals too!

Add some twine and you are done and done!

Get your Sale-a-Bration orders in before your favorite Freebie is Sold Out!

With a few of the stamp sets and the metallic tape running out, I wanted to make sure to give you one more reminder to get your order in before the last day!  If you are local, I’m doing a group order today!

  • Wildflower Fields Joy Fold Card–5 Days Left of Sale-a-Bration!

Now, before I get to the card for today – a Joy Fold card using Wildflower Fields designer paper… let me just start by saying Happy Easter!  Today is a day of fun and festivities for my family.  If you celebrate Easter, I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating with your family as well.  Smile  If you remember that Curvy Keepsake Bunny I shared the tutorial for last week, I thought I’d share how I used them… I let the Easter Bunny fill them with jelly beans and they were peeking out of the Easter baskets this morning.

    2016-03-26 23.22.01

Aren’t they so adorable?  I think they ended up just perfect for this year and the kids were even very good with them and didn’t tear them apart to get to the candy!  So success all around!

Now, back to my NEW share for you today!  We are doing our Sale-a-Bration Countdown,  I’ve shared ideas using Perfectly Artistic designer paper and the Honeycomb Happiness stamp set the last two days.  And today I have another paper set for you – the Wildflower Fields designer paper.

    image

So, this is paper that you can ONLY get free with a $50 order… see everything that is available as a free choice here.

It is a really pretty paper pack.  I’m going to be making a bunch of envelopes to mail with mine.  But I also put together this Joy Fold (fancy fold) card to share in a class as well!  It was inspired by a swap I received at the beginning of the year and I made a few stamping tweaks to fit the supplies I had.

I discovered that while the images on the Wildflower Fields paper pack are designed to go GREAT with the Flowering Fields stamp set (also free during Sale-a-bration), but it goes great with the Flower Patch stamp set as well!  That along with the matching Flower Fair dies is what I used to create the flower in the corner and to stamp the Calypso Coral cardstock behind the sentiment.  Kind of cool, huh?

Now the neat thing about a Joy Fold card is that the layers sandwhich together so that when opened, reveal your note to the recipient in the middle of the card!  You can sort of see that in the picture below.

Dimensions for a Joy Fold Card

Here is what you need to cut to make a joy fold card:

    • 4 1/4” x 8 1/2” piece of cardstock (for your base), scored at 5 1/2” – I did Old Olive
    • 5 3/8” x 4 1/8” piece of cardstock (for mat for cardbase) – I did Basic Black
    • 5 1/4” x 4” piece of designer paper (for patterned piece on cardbase) – I used the green striped pattern
    • 2 7/8” x 4 1/8” piece of cardstock (for mat for front little flap) – I did Basic Black
    • 2 3/4” x 4” piece of designer paper (for patterned piece on little flap) – I used white with leaves pattern
    • 3” x 8” piece of cardstock (for your middle sentiment layer), scored at 4” – I did Basic Black
    • Two 2-3/4” x 4” pieces of cardstock (as layers for your 3”x8” piece of paper), I used a Whisper White piece for the inside and Calypso Coral for the outside

Adhere all the pattern pieces to your cardbased so that the score line is on the left.  Then glue the pieces for the 3”x8” piece of cardstock together and glue down to the middle of the cardbase so that its score line is on the RIGHT.

Decorate the front of the card to your preferred design!  I added a sentiment layer for the cute Lovely Amazing You stamp set and them made a flower using that Flower Patch bundle.

Yes, there is a bit of cutting up front, but the card comes together pretty easy and it is a cool WOW card for someone who deserves something a little bit different.  Smile

So, I hope this inspired you, and gave you a fun idea for your stamping!

  • Sale-a-Bration Countdown–6 days left!–a bit of Sweetness with Honeycomb Happiness

The countdown is on!  We only have 6 days left of Sale-a-Bration, and I’d hate for you to miss out. Smile  Today I’m sharing some ideas from one of my FAVORITE options from Sale-a-Bration, the Honeycomb Happiness stamp set.  The funny thing is, you actually get a few different images from the set, but I’ve pretty much only used the Chick from the set… as you’ll be able to see from my multiple samples below, ha ha!  So, just so you know everything that is in the set, here is what it looks like:

    image

NOTE – they are RUNNING LOW on the clearmount version of this stamp, so you might want to grab yours sooner rather than later! Since they are not making more at this point!

But let me share a new-to-the-blog card with another idea for this set.  This was a card from my new Terrific Techniques series.  Last month we did Heat Embossing and this was one of the cards everyone made practicing the basics!

heat embossed honeycomb happiness sweet card

The other thing about this card that is cool, is that it is an example of how AWESOME the Project Life Grid Cards are.  But this isn’t a Project Life album page you say… that is right!  The cool thing is that the grid cards are a really economical way to have precut 3”x4” layers for your cards.  One side has a light grid pattern and the other side is plain white.  It isn’t as glossy as Whisper White cardstock, but when you are doing things like simple stamping or in this case, heat embossing, it works great!  And you get 50 cards for only $3.50.  Which is a steal of a deal!

In this card, you ink the chick with VersaMark and stamp onto the grid card and then cover with Black embossing powder.  Heat with your heat gun to set and then you can color to your hearts content with your Aqua Painter!

    white embossing on dark cardstock

Then we showed how great heat embossing looks on dark colored cardstock.

    • Rub the paper lightly with an Embossing Buddy (if you press hard, the white powder will show up on the paper)
    • Ink your stamp with VersaMark ink and stamp on the dark paper (this was Blackberry Bliss, one of the retiring In Colors)
    • Generously coat with light colored embossing powder like this White embossing powder
    • Tap off the excess and then heat with your Heat Gun
    • Only heat until the powder becomes shiny.  If any part is not shiny, you haven’t melted the powder enough.
    • TIP – if you are using metallic embossing powders, make sure to stop heating as soon as it becomes shiny!  Overheating will cause the metallic finish to dull and it will look tarnished instead.

Sponge the edges and layer with some of the Pretty Petals designer paper.  Add some of the White Perfect Accents (currently on the Weekly Deals!) and you have an oh so cute card!

See why I love this chick?  He is just too dang cute!

  • Easter Bunny Box with the Curvy Keepsake Die (VIDEO TUTORIAL)

As I was getting ready for my Stamp Club for March, my hostess asked for some cute Easter box or place setting.  Well… when it comes to cute animals and boxes, I knew just where to turn – the Curvy Keepsake Box!  I had made a bunny before, but as I was hopping around the interwebs, I found a cute variation by Wendy Lee and so I had to make some tweaks to my bunny and out came this Easter Bunny Box cutie!!

Easter bunny box from the curvy keepsake die

The best part is that it only takes the Curvy Keepsake die and a few punches to pull together this super adorable guy.  And if you want to see how it all comes together, just check out below because I have a video tutorial all ready to go for you!

But what you will need to play along is:

    • The curvy keepsake thinlit die  (base)
    • Large Oval Punch  (insides of ears and feet)
    • Extra-Large Oval Punch  (ears and feet)
    • Owl Builder Punch  (cheeks, nose, eyes)
    • Fast Fuse adhesive
    • Stampin’ Dimensionals

Curvy Keepsake Easter Bunny close up

I also LOVED using the Perfectly Artistic designer paper (free for one more week with Sale-a-Bration, get it added to your order at no cost with any $50 order).  The watercolor wash side was super cute, but some folks in club used the marble side and it was awesome too!  Use that paper for the insides of the ears and feet… you are just layering your oval punches.

Then glue the ears to the inside of the box flap so that you can open and close the box without hurting anything and you don’t see where the ears are glued on.  You just tuck them into the top slit of the box before gluing.

Easter Bunny Curvy Keepsake Box Open

And I just had to add a little bow over the ears with the 1/4” cotton ribbon in Blushing Bride to make my bunny extra cute. Smile

  • Faux Shaving Cream Backgrounds with Perfectly Artistic Paper

Faux Shaving Cream Backgrounds with Perfectly Artistic Paper

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the shaving cream backgrounds technique before – if not – let me just say, it gives you this neat white and color swirly background designs.  And it is fun to do but can be fairly messy.  So, when I was working on some thank you cards this month, I was excited to see you can get a similar look without all the mess thanks to the Perfectly Artistic paper (only available FREE during Sale-a-bration through the end of this month)

Faux shaving cream background technique with perfectly artistic paper

Really, I just had a lot of fun playing around with my Sale-a-Bration goodies to make these cards.  🙂 Plus, I mixed and matched all the different colors from the Perfectly Artistic paper pack for all the different color combinations for the card set.

side view of honeycomb happiness thank you card

My favorite thing though was these little chicks.  If you can’t tell, I LOVE this stamp from the Honeycomb Happiness stamp set (also, only available FREE through the end of March with the Sale-a-Bration promotion).  I stamped the first little chick at the bottom and then cut out a mask (stamped the bird on a scrap paper and cut him out and placed him over my first stamped image) and then used that to cover up the first bird when I stamped the second.

    masked honeycomb happiness chicks

Then to color the birds, I wanted the easy route… and I FOUND IT!  All you have to do is grab a sponge dauber and ink it up with Crushed Curry ink and swirl it over the chick’s face and you get cool texture and it is done lickety split!  Then just color over the beak with a Pumpkin Pie marker and you are good to go!

perfectly artistic with honeycomb happiness thank you

Oh, actually I forgot to mention, I stamped the Thank You using the Watercolor Thank You first in the upper left corner and then stamped the chicks in the lower corner.

TIP – Use the Archival Basic Black ink for super rich black colors in your stamping!  I only use this ink when I’m stamping on my red rubber stamps.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!  It is my favorite black in by far.

Wondering which Black Ink to use when?

Check out this handy-dandy chart I put together to make it easy for you to remember!  Print it out or pin it to always have the reminder when you are crafting.

  • Make Your Own Rainbows and Pot’s Of Gold for Teacher’s Gifts

Have you ever gotten an idea for a project and you just HAVE TO make it… even if you don’t have much time or really know exactly how it is all going to come together?  Well, that was the project I am sharing with you today.  You see, for all that I do crafting and cards a lot… I’m not always good about making a project on-time for a specific event.  So, I’m chronically late or completely miss the event like teacher appreciation day or getting Christmas gifts to the teacher before winter break.  — I’m working on some systems to get better about this and will be sharing those as I get them up and running! –-

So, when I got the idea the day before St. Patrick’s day to make the gold Oreos I had seen on Pinterest lately, I just had to try them out for a fun gift for my kids teachers! So I ran to Michaels and picked up some of the Gold Color Mist by Wilton and a pack of Oreos from the grocery store.  I will say, you can probably use less Color Mist if you get the Golden Oreos to start with, but if I was going to have extra cookies around the house, I wanted them to be the yummy traditional Oreos!  Or the mint Oreos, those are totally the best, but I wasn’t sure if the teachers would like mint, so I went with the original style. Smilegold oreos for st patricks day

But once I had the cookies, they needed to be in something cute, so as I was lying in bed that night, I started thinking about making paper Pots of Gold.  I brainstormed all the ways I could do it, but in the end, I realized I had about 45 minutes in the morning to make 4 of these bags, so I had to go with what was quick and easy!

Caitlin got up and helped me in the morning and we decided to use the Gift Bag Punch Board to make our base containers.  I decided easy was better than most correct shape. ha ha… besides the cookies is what really mattered, right?!

caitlin making gift bag with punch board

I was in such a rush to finish them up, so I forgot to take a picture of what the bags… but they looked like this only without the holes in the top and in black:

    image

Stampin’ Up Gift Bag Punch Board

I raced through making the base bags and then with a small amount of decorating, they were ready for their cookies!  Each one fit a ziploc bag with 2 Oreos perfectly!

pot of gold st patricks day gift bag with rainbow

Project Tips for making these Gift Bags

These came together really quickly, but I wanted to share how I did a couple parts since I’ve been asked based on the pictures I’ve shared on my Facebook page – which you should totally join me on, by the way!

    • To make the little bags, I used 4” x 10” strips of Basic Black cardstock.  So you get two bags per 8 1/2” x 11” piece of paper.
    • Follow the instructions on the Gift Bag punch board for your scoring and then use the Fast Fuse adhesive to hold it together!  You need the strong adhesive to make sure it doesn’t come open as they are getting their goodies out!
    • To make the rainbows, I did it for all four teachers in one fell swoop!  Grab the Circle thinlits and start cutting out your colors.  I started with the largest circle for the red and then just used each smaller circle die for the next color in the rainbow.  My color choices were
        – Real Red
        – Pumpkin Pie
        – Daffodil Delight
        – Cucumber Crush
        – Tempting Turquoise
        – Perfect Plum
Adhere the circles to each other and cut into quarters to attach to each bag!

    rainbows with circle thinlits

    • On the front, I wanted to add a lucky Four Leaf Clover and so I used my Pansy Punch Shamrock Tutorial to create a super easy shamrock.

    • Then I just added a tag using the Notetag punch and the sentiment from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set.  On the back of the tag I wrote the note “We are so lucky to have YOU for a teacher!”  You do have to punch the hole for the twine in the bag and the tag – I was originally going to tie this onto the cookie bag, but this just ended up seeming easier to me. Smile

    st patricks day notetag punch

So, if you are looking for a quick gift or gift bag idea, I highly recommend the Gift Bag Punch Board!  It makes things super quick and easy.

Switch it up and make a bunny on the front for Easter, or a flower for Mother’s Day!  Or even put a photograph of someone special like kids to give to a parent for a birthday or Father’s Day!  The possibilities are endless.

One of the things I love to do with my team is participate in a card swap each time a new catalog comes out.  With this awesome Occasions catalog that Stampin’ Up released in January, I was especially excited to see what everyone would create.  For my card, I was inspired to use the Balloon Celebrations bundle – the Balloon Celebrations stamp with the matching Balloon Bouquet punch.  Not only can you get them for 15% off when you buy them together… but they are the 1-2 punch that makes cute cards super easy!  Here is what I came up with:

With a few basic layers, you can create an easy peasy base for your card:

    • 5 1/2” x 8 1/2” card base (SU – Bermuda Bay CS)
    • 3 3/4” x 5” mat (SU – Soft Sky CS)
    • 3 1/2” x 4 3/4” center piece (SU – Whisper White)

Just stamp the Whisper White cardstock with some clouds from the Balloon Celebrations stamp set using Soft Sky ink and you have a pretty sky for your balloons to float by in!

I didn’t want to cover up the clouds, so I mounted the balloons to a piece of 2” wide vellum… it is 2” wide because I knew I wanted to punch the top with the scalloped tag topped punch!  It just makes for more pretty ruffles like the clouds!

Each balloon was stamped with the solid base color, then a speckly overlay, and then the outline.  The nice thing is – the stamps are photopolymer so they are totally clear which makes lining them up super easy!  Then I punch them out with the matching punch and started layering them with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The final touch though, was for the sentiment, I used the long string word “let us celebrate” which I think was actually meant to be a balloon string, and turned it sideways and heat embossed it in black!  So it stood out as a delicate sentiment for my card.  Add a bow from the stitched Bermuda Bay ribbon and attach with a glue dot and you are done!

If you want to see what is all in the bundle… including how they make the speckled balloons so easy for you… check it out:

  • Bear Hugs Birthday Card with the Collar Fold Technique

I’ve recently seen this idea of the Collar Fold card and I just had to give the technique a try!  And what more fun way than to have a little bear popping in to say hello and Happy Birthday to you!

    A Few Fun Card Details

This card was a fun way to play around with a few different things… I grabbed a cheery paper from the It’s My Party designer paper stack and made my fold first, then I started building the card around it.

I started with the larger bear from the Bear Hugs stamp set.  I actually had the chick from the Honeycomb Happiness stamp set first, but I figured everyone had seen me use him a billion times, so I needed to break out of the rut and try something new.  And isn’t this bear just too stinkin’ cute?  I stamped him in the Archival Basic Black ink onto a piece of Whisper White paper and then colored using an Aqua Painter and Tip Top Taupe for the bear and my Stampin’ Write markers for the flowers.

I also pulled out another new set – the Party Pants stamp set.  This is one of the limited time release sets that just came out for Sale-a-Bration.  You can get it free with a $50 purchase and only until the end of the month!  I loved that all of the sentiments fit in the balloons and that the balloon fits the Balloon Bouquet punch from the Occasions catalog!  So, it was the perfect way to hold back my flaps.

Did you spot it?  The last touch?  I use Crystal Effects to create a raised gloss over a bunch of the Balloons on the patterned paper.  It makes a HUGE difference and is so EASY to do!  I really need to do that more often. Smile

How to make a collar fold card

Now if you want to make a card like this at home, here is how you do it:

    • Cut a piece of pattern paper to 5” x 3.75”.  I highly recommend a paper that has high contrast between the two sides.
    • Cut a slight halfway down on the patterned paper (so 2 1/2” down & 2” in)
    • Fold back the patterned paper.  If you want, you can use your trimmer to SCORE the paper for you, or just do what I did and fold it by hand.
    • Stamp your image on a piece of Whisper White paper the same dimensions as your patterned paper (5” x 3.75”).
TIP – to get your stamped image peeking out just the right amount.  After you fold your flaps back, set it onto your white paper and trace the cut opening using a pencil.  Then take away the patterned paper and use the pencil marks as a guide when stamping.  Erase the marks when you finish stamping.
    • Color your image and then glue the patterned paper over the Whisper White cardstock.
    • Mount to a piece of cardstock for your mat (5 1/4” x 4”)
    • Decorate your card as desired

The possibilities are endless and you can do all kinds of fun designs by mixing and matching your patterned paper and stamped images.
