  • Sneak Peek! Rose Garden Thinlits & Glimmer Paper = Gorgeously Elegant Cards!

Woo hoo!  Don’t you just love sneak peeks?  I wanted to share a couple cards with you that I made playing with some new goodies coming on January 5th from the Occasions Catalog – the Rose Garden Thinlits, Rose Wonder stamp set, and beautiful Blushing Bride glimmer paper.  But more importantly, to remind you to pick up some Black Glimmer paper before it is gone on January 4th!!

Seriously, I love this paper and don’t know why they aren’t carrying it over.  If you missed it, that was probably because it was hidden with the Halloween products, but it is perfect for any time of year, including birthdays & weddings! Smile

My friend Heather, told me about this idea of using the Black Glimmer paper as an outline for an image… basically using any of the thin intricate dies.  And then cutting out the shape in a different color glimmer paper and filling in the holes with the different colors.  Like with this rose from the Rose Garden Thinlits die!  How stinkin’ pretty is that?

    Jennifer’s project tips:

    • Cut out two different colored flowers to mix & match – I cut out the medium flower from the Rose Garden thinlits set from both a piece of Black Glimmer paper and the new Blushing Bride glimmer paper.  Then I set aside the Blushing Bride glitter outline and the Black glitter pieces for other projects and used the Black glimmer outline and the pink insides.
    • Use the right glue for the job!  It is projects like these that I’m glad we have so many options for adhesive because it lets you use just the right glue for the job.  In this case, I use the Fine-Tip glue pen to adhere the outline – I wanted to make sure it was all stuck down firmly without extra glue seeping out.  And then I used my two-way glue pen to completely coat the back of the petal pieces so that they would firmly stick down but wouldn’t have liquid glue getting onto the black outline as I was putting the pieces in place.  And well, tape runner is just too big for those little bitty pieces. Smileimage
    • Put a bow on it – I wanted to keep the rest of the card simple so that the glimmer flower could shine without it all being too much.  So I stuck with a simple sentiment from the coordinating Rose Wonder stamp set (they will be available to get in a bundle!) and then used some Blushing Bride cotton ribbon from the annual catalog to add some color and to balance the image.  And yes, I ran the base ribbon first and then tied a bow and attached it with a glue dot over the base ribbon!
    • Don’t forget those extra pieces you left behind!  Remember how we set aside the Black glimmer petal pieces?  Don’t throw them away!  Put them to good use in another project!

For this card, I used the Two-way glue pen on the back of the Blushing Bride glimmer outline and let it sit, adhesive side up for a minute.  This makes the glue repositionable, so I could place the outline on my paper and know that it wouldn’t move until I was ready to pick it up… and then it WOULD move!  Then adhere the black glimmer pieces like in the first card, and then gently peel up the unwanted outline piece.  Doesn’t it look pretty?!

I added some stamped elements from the Rose Wonder stamp set – the leaf outlines in Tip Top Taupe and the sentiment in Memento Black.  Add a few of the White Perfect Accents for an elegant accent and you have a pretty wedding card all ready to go.

So, you can see now why I’m so sad that the Black Glimmer paper is retiring.  It is perfect for any occasion.  But hey, at least they have discounted it – so we can pick up some spare on sale before it’s gone. Smile

  • April Blog Hop – Silver Sparkle for Weddings or Anniversaries

Its blog hop time!  This time, the theme is Weddings & Anniversaries.  Now, all I could remember when I started working on my projects was the challenge to use silver in honor of Stampin’ Up’s 25th anniversary.  So, my mind was stuck on my silver glimmer paper when I got started.

However, I was lucky and got inspired and came up with not one but TWO cards using my glimmer paper that I’m pretty excited to share with you today.  So, hopefully you enjoy these cards too and they give you some fun new ideas to try out.

    Card 1:  Two Hearts Congratulations

This was my first “big idea”.  I am slightly obsessed right now with the technique of punching out a shape and then accenting it with a decorative paper below it.  So, in this case, I decided to do two hearts and pop it up on dimensionals over Silver glimmer paper.

I grabbed my Silver Dazzle pen and dashed out an outline around the holes to accent them and tie in to the silver theme.  Then I started with two small Razzleberry punched out hearts in the center of each larger heart, but I just really didn’t like how it looked.  But, put a flower from the Flower Trim ribbon on top of the Razzleberry hearts (so a little of the darker color shows through), and it looks great!

Then I just added the simple “congratulations” sentiment across the top.
(shhhh – want to know a secret?  I totally stamped a different sentiment directly on my base paper and it looked awful!  So, I had to go with plan B – the banner.  I think it works, don’t you?)

Card 2 – Interlocking Wedding Rings

So after finishing the first card, I had this idea that was itching in the back of my mind to do something that looked like two wedding rings.  I had no clue how I was going to do it, but I knew I just needed to try!

The rings were created by punching a 1 1/4” circle out of a piece of Silver Glimmer paper.  Then lining up a 1 3/8” circle over the hole to create a slim ring of silver.  Then I used my Tombow liquid glue to adhere it to my card.  I used the 1 1/4” circles as accents to the left and right of the rings.

And if you are curious about the base cardstock, I used Very Vanilla cardstock and spritzed with the Silver Smooches spritz.

If you have any questions about any of these cards, leave me a comment and I’ll make sure to fill you in!  (Or just leave me a comment and let me know what you think because it always makes my day to get a comment on a blog post. Smile )

And don’t miss more great wedding/anniversary inspiration at the other stops along the route –

  • Mix & Matched Embossing Folders Wedding Card

Ever have those weeks where the mojo just isn’t flowing?   Sometimes I’m jazzed to get crafty but then I sit down at my craft table and just stare at everything and have no idea what to make.  That would be this week for me!

Thank goodness for swap cards!  Today I thought I’d share a card by Carolyn Dobie that I found inspiring for two different reasons.

    1. Combining two different embossing folders!  I don’t know why I always think that I can only use one textured pattern on a card at a time…this definitely proves otherwise.
    2. Stamping with Vellum!!  I LOVE the look of vellum, so I don’t know why I never think to grab it.  I love how she stamped her image with Stazon ink and then colored them in with her Stampin’ Write markers.  So pretty and elegant.

All together, I think this makes a very simple and sweet wedding card but with a change of a sentiment could be used for just about anything.  I hope you enjoyed it too.  Now I’m off to my craft room to start playing around!

  • A Handmade Wedding Book and Card

I’m back!  I had such a blast in Vegas. This was my first vacation since having my son, and though I missed him, it was great to have adult time and he got some quality time with Grandma. We also lucked in to a crazy room upgrade – we got a room on the “50”th floor looking at the Bellagio fountains! Amazing!

    vegas hotel room view

We were there for our friends wedding and so I had made them a book to save the photos and memories of this trip.  I got the supplies and learned the binding technique at a store demonstration when visiting my mom.  Now that I get how it works, I’m going to see if I can replicate it with Stampin’ Up! supplies.

I had the book all ready to go, but still needed to make a card, so I took my supplies with me and planned to put it together in Vegas.  Well, I discovered when unpacking that I completely forgot my clear mounts!  So I had to get a little creative so I could mount my sentiment. Smile Turns out, if you are desperate, you can use the stamp case as a mount.  It doesn’t work as well as a clear block, but it will work!

But in the end, I was able to pull together a card that I love and was so happy to give to them while celebrating this awesome time for them.
