  • Daydream Medallions Convention Make & Takes

Every year at the Stampin’ Up! convention, they give us a ton of projects as Make & Takes.  Some, I think are really cute while others are soooo not my style.  But I have to say, this set of cards using the Daydream Medallions stamp set, from the first day of Make & Takes were some of my favorites!

We were making four 3×3 cards and using a coordinating wheel to decorate our envelopes.  I thought these cards were a great way to show how you can mix and match the different medallion stamps to make totally different looks between your cards.  That is one of those design ideals that I love playing around with but can take a while to really break out of the box and create new ideas (and speaking of boxes, don’t miss the box we decorated for the cards at the end of this post).

These first two cards, I shared with folks who attended my Convention Roundup event.  Everyone seemed to have a good time making these cards to take home.  I don’t know why, but I particularly love the bling in the pink stamped medallion ring in the “always” card!

And here is a close up of the other two cards we made at convention.  These are super cute designs but they really go together best if you are using your Stamp-a-ma-jig.

Finally, we decorated one of the kraft boxes to be storage for our cards.  Now, here is the ingenious thing…. the Daydream Medallions stamp set includes the solid circle rubber cut outs from the middle of the bigger circles.  So, even though they aren’t “official” stamps listed on the box for the stamp set…. they are still stamps!  So we used them and stamped with Versamark on the sides of the box to create this:

    Cute, right?

Alright, well I just spent this last weekend visiting Portland and participating in a 36 hour road rally/scavenger hunt that went non-stop throughout the weekend.  So, I’m a bit beat!  It was an amazing event with beautiful Oregon sceneries.  Maybe I should create some scrapbook layouts with those pictures!  But first, sleep!  Hope you had a wonderful weekend as well and a scrappy, crafty Monday!

  • Have You Tried a Z-Fold Card Before?

Alright, so I thought I’d share the last card we made at my folds class.  This is a super simple card style but it packs some wow! factor.  So, here is the front of the card using my new You’re Amazing stamp set that I got at convention a couple weeks ago.

But to open it, pull on the left side of the card and it opens like this:

    Ta Da!!

Fun, right? Smile  I loved the great shape of the Labels Framelits to be used as the front sentiment and piece that hid our inside area to write your greeting.  But this design works well for any shape you want to cut for hanging over the front.

We added a bit of bling to our front sentiment after coloring in the stamped image for the front.  So, you can check it out in this next picture. And this is one of the things I like about using Stampin’ Up! designer paper, it tells me exactly which colors to use when picking the markers to color in my stamps!!

So, if you want to create this card yourself.  All you need to do is create your normal side fold card and then take your card front and fold it back on itself.  (So you have a score at 2 3/4” and 5 1/2” on your 4 1/4” x 11” piece of paper.)  Decorate the “inside” of your card and the part of the front flap that you folded back.  Clear as mud?

  • Simple is Pretty – Fancy Florets Card

You know how at holidays and birthdays, you agonize over what to give someone as a gift and you worry about if they will like it or not?  But then at the same time, you can be given just about anything and you are super excited about it?  That is what today’s card made me think of! 🙂

As I mentioned a few blog posts ago, I do a monthly card swap with the gals in my Fun n’ Crafty team.  And each time I’ve had to create a card, I wonder if it is interesting enough… does it look nice, etc.  And then I receive this card from my fabulous downline, Pam Wu.  It is so simple, yet very cute and vibrant in person!

Pam Wu Fancy Florets swap card

    card created by Pamela Wu

I love how she used the new in-colors (Raspberry Ripple, Summer Starfruit, Gumball Green) and the Fancy Florets stamp set to create her own designer paper and cute look.

I wanted to share this card with someone else and while I was getting it ready, I thought it would be fun to grab a piece of the matching Raspberry Ripple stitched satin ribbon and just simply tie it around the end of the card in a knot.  I thought it worked well too.  What do you think?

    So, thank you, Pam!

I love the card and the reminder that you don’t have to go over the top to create a great card!

  • Gate Fold Card with a Window

I thought I’d share another card that we created recently in my Fun Folds class.  I had first done this card style for the folks in my Cards to Go program in June but thought it would be a fun style to do in my class here this month.  So I switched up the colors and paper to make this card:

I often do the gate fold card when I am showing different folds option, but I liked how this card has the fun window in the middle to “peek a boo” to the inside of the card.  In this case, I just layered the two different sizes of Scallop Circle punches and the Button Buddies stamp set.

Oh, and in case you are wondering about the designer paper – it actually comes from the Twitterpated designer series paper pack!  I would never have thought to look for a pattern like this in that kit but I was flipping through and it just jumped out to me as perfect!

And if you are interested in getting project kits or instructions mailed to you each month for fun new cards

    – check out my Cards to Go program!  There is still time to sign up for the August card kit!

  • Double Slider Card and Last Day for Reason to Smile!

Alright, this post is going to be a quicky because I have an unplanned dentist appointment I have to head out to (don’t you just love those!)  But, I wanted to share a card we made recently at my Fun Folds class and remind everyone that if you haven’t ordered your Reason to Smile stamp set yet, TODAY is the LAST DAY it is available!

What’s that?  Pull the ribbon and you start to see the cute image appear….

  • Summer Afternoon with Watercolor Pencils

Each month the gals in my team of Fun n Crafty demos participate in a card swap where we each create a card for one of the other folks on the team.  It’s a lot of fun to see the different styles from everyone and to take time out to create a card for a specific person each month.

This was the card I made for Bethani recently.  This hostess stamp set – Summer Afternoon, made me think of her, and the image just begged me to color it in!  So, I grabbed my trusty watercolor pencils and got to work.

    Summer Afternoon colored swap card

I kept the colors more subtle and then added pops of color with my cardstock and ribbon.  I grabbed some Calypso Coral and Daffodil Delight cardstock for my bright colors and then matched the strip of Daffodil Delight cardstock with a piece of Daffodil Delight stitched grosgain ribbon to add some texture to the card.

Summer Afternoon colored swap card close up

I hope she enjoyed the card and I loved seeing her change it up and use this similar layout for a class she held recently.  (If you are in the Mountain View area of California and looking for card making classes, she has some great ones!)

And if you have been thinking about joining Stampin’ Up!, we’d love to have you join our group and our monthly card swap!  You can learn more about all the benefits and stay tuned for more details on a cute project kit that you can get FREE when you sign up in August!

  • Have You Tried the Stamp-a-ma-jig?

So, I’ve been missing making videos and so I wanted to get back into the groove and so I started thinking about what would be a fun topic…. and so I decided to show folks how to use the Stamp-a-ma-jig!

This is one of those tools that most people don’t get past the name.  They either don’t have any idea what it is, or they think it sounds complicated and get intimidated.  Well, I’m here to tell you that it is actually really easy; and it is a lifesaver sometimes for cards where precision matters!

So, I decided to CASE myself and make a little card based on the card I posted a couple days ago.  Here is the finished product:

I LOVE the Natural Composition paper and the Whisper White looks really pretty against the Very Vanilla in person. And don’t forget, this flower stamp set (Reason to Smile) is only available for a few more days!  The last day to get it for only $5 is July 31st!

Anyway, the topic was all about using the stamp-a-ma-jig.  So, if you don’t have any idea how to use it or are curious about 2-step stamping, take a look at the following video.  And if you still have questions, drop me a line at jennifer@nwstamper.com and I’d be so happy to answer them for you!

  • Sweet and Simple Reason to Smile Card

I know that a lot of the samples people post out there are the gorgeous, works of art cards – and they are beautiful and inspirational to look at.  But sometimes you just need something sweet and simple… so here is an idea for you using the $5 Reason to Smile stamp set:

    Cute, right?!

All this is, is coloring in the outline stamp set with your markers and stamping on the right side of the card base.  Do some tone-on-tone stamping on a piece of cardstock, and then before you adhere it down to your card front, add a white piece of the Dotted Scallop Ribbon punch for a little bit of fringe.  Make a bow out of bakers twine and add a sentiment and you are done!

And did I mention the stamp set these flowers are from is only $5?  If you haven’t gotten your set yet, remember you only have until July 31st to order it.  With any $50 purchase, you can get this stamp set for $5.

  • Convention 2012 Display Boards!

One of the big reasons to go to convention is to see all the tons of amazing samples and displays.  They have huge boards that are organized by common colors (so you get a rainbow effect as you walk along the boards), by artisan award finalists, and boards full of samples using the stamp sets we are given at convention.  That is a lot of samples!!

So, to help you get started with some new ideas here are some of the display boards to give you lots and LOTS of ideas!

Whew!  So are you feeling inspired yet?  I told you there are so many amazing ideas there.  I decided this year that I’m going to pick a few of my favorites and use them in my classes and for blog posts of the coming year.  So, thank you to everyone who contributed to these boards for sharing the amazing ideas!

So, I’d love to hear… leave a comment here or on my facebook page with with cards from the boards are your favorites!

  • Everything Eleanor Christmas Swap Card

Alright, I’m finally getting caught up which is nice!  Up next, getting ready to have a bunch of great ladies over on Wednesday night to check out all of my samples, swaps, and goodies that I brought back from Convention and then make a few projects to take home!  It should be a fun night
(if you are interested in coming check out the details and rsvp here!)

Anyway, this year, I took with me a ton of swap cards… normally I end up with 30-50 cards but this year I took 100!

I didn’t mean to make so many but I discovered that I could almost exactly use the scrap from my Snow Much Fun swap to make this Everything Eleanor swap card, that I just kept making cards until I was out of scraps!  But that just means I have a whole bunch of great cards to use as inspiration now.

So, want to see what I was swapping?

I thought the flourish-y, journal stamp would make a fun wreath and my original idea had the bird stamped red for a cardinal… but I wanted the bird to stand out.  It took a little more work than I expected but I thought it was a fun use of the set.

And before I sign off for the night, I thought I’d share all the fun goodies I got while I was at convention.  This is just the stuff I got for free as part of my registration, giveaways, and prizes.  Not too bad, huh? 🙂

    Stampin Up Convention Free Items

That is a bag, red glimmer paper, 2 packs of designer fabric, 8 stamp sets, a journal made in My Digital Studio, 2 spools of satin ribbon, 1 pack of rhinestones, a pack of In Color Dahlias, a Holiday Mini catalog, a main catalog, and a hand fan!

See, you know you totally want to come to convention next yere, huh??

  • Stampin’ Up! Convention 2012–The First Day!

Does anyone here watch “So You Think You Can Dance”?  If so, do you know how Mary Murphy has the Hot Tamale train… well imagine her screaming “Woo Hoo!!!” and that is what we were saying this morning. Smile

It was a fun day filled with general session, make & takes, classes, and lots and lots of stamping buddies!  I think that was actually one of my favorite parts – reconnecting with friends I haven’t seen in a while, meeting new folks while waiting in line or in classes or swapping, and its been so fun to meet folks who visit my blog and stop me to say hi!

As with yesterday, I have more photos on my facebook page – http://facebook.com/nwstamper, but here are some of my highlights from today.

The day started with general session and I had my littlest stamper with me to enjoy the show!  Ok, so she enjoyed the first half of session and then napped the second… but that is ok, she didn’t need to learn about how to connect with Gen Y!

    IMAG0152

The keynote speaker was the hilarious Jason Dorsey who works for a company that researches generations and their characteristics and trends. It was fascinating to hear what research shows is the difference between generations, for example – Baby Boomers prefer communication via phone whereas Gen Y strongly prefers text and email to phone calls when being reached out to. And the interesting thing was sitting next to my mom and watching us both nod our heads along to what he was saying!

But before he took the stage… and look at this cool stage… was a welcome by Shelli Gardner

    IMAG0002

She talked about the convention theme and Stampin’ Up!’s commitment to supporting demonstrators who want to build their demo-ship “my way” and growing our talent and businesses in ways that are right for us.

And of course, she had to show a super cute project!  (I’ll post a better picture tomorrow if I can!  And I’m totally going to CASE parts of it so I can show you some cool details in later posts!)

    IMAG0001 (3)

I worked on Make & Takes – more on that tomorrow! And though I shopped at Momento Mall again over lunch, check out how fun the lunch area was set up.

    IMAG0002_COVER (2)

I had classes in the afternoon… and if you are curious about the types of things you can learn at convention, today I took the following classes:

    • “I am a Leader” with Brian Pilling – I always love classes with Brian because he has such an interesting take on the topics.  In this case it was more about what are the characteristics/extremes of a bad leader and where is a middle ground that you can be more effective and helpful.  I’m always trying to figure out how to be better for my team and so I loved the insight!
    • “I am Open for Business” with Carrie Cutney – Carrie is one of the frequent speakers at SU events and this was a good class for hearing some basic ideas for how to find new customers and stamping friends, tips for responding when people find you, and ways to expand your business.

And tomorrow, its more sessions, more make & takes, more classes, and I’m going to get more pictures of the displays!

So, before I sign off for now so I can catch a few more Zzzs before the day really begins, I thought I would share two more things that always impress me about Stampin’ Up! and convention:

    1.  Stampin’ Up’s support for demonstrators with families!  Even at a corporate event, they allow and even encourage demos with infants to come participate by providing “mother’s lounges” on either side of the general session floor.  These rooms are walled off sections of the main stage floor with carpeting (so you can put your baby down), gliders, changing station, and a TV so you can see what is happening up on the stage!

    IMAG0007

    2. The friendship and sharing of other demonstrators!  Stampin’ Up! offers incentives and benefits for building an supporting a team, but certain incentives only take into account your first 5 levels of downline.  However, I am connected to a wonderful woman named Julie Gunhus who I am 8 or so levels below, but she has always been super inclusive of myself and my team at events and takes time to answer questions and even includes me in the cute gifts she gives her downline at convention.  Like this adorable bag tag!  I mean, seriously, isn’t it cute!?

    IMAG0159

Oh, and before I sign off, I should make sure to share the Stampin’ Up! news that was announced today at convention.

    Day 1 Announcements:

    • Watch for fun Stampin’ Up! ads in magazines such as Parents, Better Homes & Gardens, and Family Fun coming next month.
    • My Digital Studio 2 has a release date!  August 1st with additional features coming out as free updates following that.  Awesome new features include designing 2 page spreads at one time, being able to use different color “ink” for different parts of a stamp image, being able to recolor DSP, embellishments, and stamps, and much more!
    • Great upcoming incentive trips and managers reception locations including a weekend getaway trip to San Diego and manager’s reception (if you have the title of Manager with SU) will be in January at Harry Potter’s Wizardly World in FL!  Extra incentive for me to promote to manager in the next few months!

Alright time for a little more rest!  I’ll share more with you soon!
