  • A Watercolored Sympathy Card Sneak Peek

Like I mentioned last Thursday, I had the privilege of being tapped to be a guest designer for Cute Card Thursday!  They have some really fun themes and challenges each week, and I love that they are so open that you can really get inspired based on anything you have in your stash.

    This week the theme is:

    Something Blue

I mean, there are so many ways to interpret that and believe me, I went through a number of different ideas myself.  But in the end, I ended up coming back to this card.

I just got this new stamp set – Simply Sketched as part of my preorder from the new Stampin’ Up! catalog that comes out at the end of the month.  This is actually a hostess set, but I LOVE the sketched images in the set and the font of the sentiments, that I had to get it early.

Anyway, the flower from this set is what started it all!  I knew I wanted to watercolor it and make it blue and then I started grabbing other supplies from around my craft room that went with the blue theme.

So, my stamp is a sneaky peek… but the rest of the card is an homage to the retiring items.  I grabbed one of my last few scraps from my Comfort Café designer paper for the patterned papers in the card.  I used the retiring Certainly Celery paper for a mat and then added one more shade of blue with the retiring Marina Mist scallop dotted ribbon (the dots are on the backside Winking smile).  Oh, and retiring ink colors for my stamped image too!  Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, and Baja Breeze.

That is a LOT of blues!

The nice thing is that they all went together and, while thankfully I don’t have an occasion that calls for a sympathy card right now, I now have a card that I would feel good sending out to a friend or loved one who needs a personal note of support.

But if you have a different idea (or even something similar) that you have bouncing around in your mind for the challenge this week – Something Blue – hop on over to Cute Card Thursday and join in the challenge fun!

  • Birthday Celebration with a Sketched Birthdays Sneak Peek

Today is my hubby’s birthday!  So, first off:

    Happy Birthday, Scott!

After being together for 12 1/2 years, we’ve gone through a lot of changes and growing (though he will tell you that it was mostly me that had the growing to do! ha ha!)  But now he is the one getting old Smile  and so I guess the jokes on him!

So, today my mind is on birthdays so I thought I would share a birthday card I made recently.  This one was actually for my dad (his birthday was last week, so he’s seen this card already… don’t want to spoil the surprise for Scott’s card because he actually does see my blog when I least expect it!)

    Sketched Birthdays Birthday card

Psst – don’t recognize the stamp set?  That is because it is a NEW stamp set that is coming out May 31st!  This Sketched Birthdays stamp set has a number of images all related to birthdays in this same style of drawing.  I have to admit, I think it is cool because it is different from what I’ve had to play with for a while.

Plus it is great for masculine cards!

Sketched Birthdays Birthday card close up

It’s a bit hard to see, but all I did was sponge around the large circle punch out with Early Espresso to get the darker shading and then cut out the Happy Birthday with the Banner Framelits and popped those up on dimensionals.

So, put it on your wishlist and watch for it to come out May 31st!

  • Spring Surprise! A new Sneak Peek Stamp Set!

It may be grey and rainy here in the northwest… I’ve heard it is even snowy in some places still!  But doesn’t this card make you feel like spring is just about here?

This card was created by Carrie C from the Stampin’ Up! home office (see more details on it on the Stampin’ Up! blog) using the new A Round Array stamp set that is coming out in the new catalog on June 1st.

Fun for us, they are releasing the stamp set early, so you can get it starting today!  So, yep, you can get this stamp set – even at a discount if you bundle it with the matching 7/8” punch – AND get Sale-a-Bration freebies too.  Got to love that overlap of promotions. Smile

    Here are the details:

What do you think?  This set reminds me of the Mixed Medley hostess stamp set, which was cute to use.  So, I expect this will be a fun set to layer with your different circle and scallop circle punches.

Oh, and if you are looking for wood mount options, know that in this sneak peek period, this set is only available in clear mount but will be available in wood when the new catalog comes out in June!

  • Stampin’ Up! Catalog Sneak Peek

I feel almost selfish, I ordered some of the new sneak peek products earlier this month and while I’ve been getting to know them; I haven’t done much sharing (aside from the In Color sampler bookmarks I included with mailed catalogs).

Well, I thought I would change that and share a card I made to play with a bunch of new things… can you guess how many new items are in this card?

    So, what is your guess?

If you said 5 items, I’d say nice job!  If you said 6, then you are exactly right! Smile

First off is the super cute paper called Patio Party that features the new In Colors.  I thought the banners design was cool enough on its own that I wanted to let it shine by being the focal point of the card.  Next, I added some of the new stitched grosgrain ribbon (Daffodil Delight in this case) for a border trim and to help my sentiment pop!  Ok, #3 – the stamp set called Itty Bitty Banners.  Now, I like sentiments and banners but I wouldn’t be loving this set as much if it wasn’t for the fact that there are new framelits to exactly match the stamps!!! woo hoo!!!  So, that is number 4, the matching Bitty Banner framelits!  I love how easy it makes my job at cutting out the sentiments.

So, that leaves 2 more new things to spot.  Well, they are new In Colors… first is the pink paper matting my paper in the middle of the card – it is the new Primrose Petals and it is super pretty.  And finally, I stamped my sentiment in the new blue called Midnight Muse.  I know, it is hard to tell but it is a really nice blue color.  Not quite as dark as Night of Navy but deeper than Island Indigo or Not Quite Navy.

Well, all of these things are available starting June 1.  but… did you know you can get them earlier than that?

Want to get these items now?

Did you know, that if you order the Stampin’ Up demonstrator starter kit (your choice of $125 worth of products for only $99 plus free shipping!) now, you are able to fill your starter kit with sneak peek items.  This includes multiple stamp sets, accessories, paper, and even the new firm foam ink pads in all of the Stampin’ Up! colors!

Oh, and did I mention that the starter kit ships for free?  It is a great deal and a perfect way to start enjoying the benefits of being a demonstrator now!  In fact, if you sign up online, you will have access to the demonstrator website most likely within the hour.  How fun is that!

If you have questions or would like to learn more, shoot me a note at jennifer@nwstamper.com and I’d be more than happy to fill you in on all the details.  Or if you are ready to go, you can start building your kit by signing up online now.

  • Wanna Hear Some New Catalog Tidbits?

Early this morning, Stampin’ Up! released an online copy of the upcoming catalog to demonstrators in the US and Canada.  So, of course, while I was up at 2am for a middle of the night feeding for my littlest stamper (4 months old), I started flipping through to see what was in store.

Boy, was I not disappointed!!!  The baby fell back asleep and I kept sitting there going back over the beautiful pages of the new catalog.

So too wound up to sleep, I thought I’d write up a post to share some of my excitement with you!  Stampin’ Up!’s policy won’t let me share product pictures or exact details yet but I can describe what I’m loving!

-More Framelits!  Like lots more framelits!  You know how in the Occasions Mini there was the labels and hearts nesting framelits?  Well, watch for a super awesome flower (that has, I think, a matching stamp set) that nests as well as other great shapes.  Oh, and more new dies and edgelits too.

-A new mat pack!  If you’ve been in one of my classes before, you know I love my paper piercer and mat pack.  I couldn’t believe they were retiring my beloved mat pack, but now I know why.  Because they are making it better!  Can you say matching piercing outlines?  Guess, there is another thing on my wish list.

    – New punches!  Yes, another of my downfalls (have you seen my wall of punches?) and there are multiple new punches including a great replacement for the current butterfly punch.  Plus, in keeping with Stampin’ Up!’s tradition of coordination – they have matching stamp sets. 🙂

-Super Fantabulous looking scrapbooks!  Um, so I have a ton of scrapbooks on my shelf at home that are not completely full, but I’m seriously considering changing some of them out for the new ones.  They come with metal label holders on the end!! Plus, not only will we be getting your regular page protectors but now divided page protectors too!  Cannot wait to try out some new-to-me scrapping styles with these.

    – Improved Tools!  From bigger scrub pads to clean your stamps to a cool looking new paper trimmer, I have a feeling I’ll be upgrading a number of my tools.  And loving it, of course. 😉

And it wouldn’t be a new catalog without some great new stamp sets, some returning favorites from past mini catalogs (hi Mixed Bunch! hi Bordering on Romance! hi awesome holiday sets!); and of course, the new In Colors as well.

I just ordered my first couple boxes of catalogs, and can’t wait to hear your reaction when I send them out later this month.  If you’ve ordered with me recently, I’ll be making sure you are covered with your own free copy.  If you aren’t a current customer of mine but would like a catalog, go here to let me know you would like to be on my catalog list.

PS- if you just can’t wait that long, new recruits who sign up with the new $99 starter kit will be getting the new catalogs in their kit!  So, not only will you be able to view the catalog online with hours of signing up, but you’ll have your print copy and a chance to preorder soon after. 🙂

Alright, I’m off to bed again.  Hope you’ve enjoyed these little teases of what is to come in a few weeks!

  • Time For the New Summer Smooches Suite

For the first time in a long time, I didn’t preorder the sneak peek products – the Summer Smooches Suite.  I know, I know… if you get the perk as a demonstrator to get to see and order them early, why wouldn’t you?  I guess I was indecisive about what I wanted but I knew I loved the Fabric Brads (even though they will only be available in April) and the bright colors of the Summer Smooches designer paper have been calling to me since seeing them.  And finally, my shipment showed up yesterday and so this is one of the first cards I made:

I’ve been wanting to try out this idea of a “peek-a-boo” designer paper and after being inspired by a card on Stampin’ Connection (the online demonstrator community) I started creating and the card kept evolving.  For this style of card, you punch a shape out of your top layer of paper and then layer a different color or print behind the holes.  I love how the fabric brad matches the print of the designer paper and the neutral-ness of the Crumb Cake cardstock lets the Tangerine Tango color really stand out.

One fun thing I did was to punch the flower with the Fancy Flower punch and then I cut between the petals about halfway towards the center of the flower so I could curl up the petals.

Now since I was working on this card for my Cards to Go kit for April as well as a local class, I wanted to make sure I had the design figured out so that as soon as my package arrived with the Smooches stuff, I could cut the right sizes of paper and be ready to go.  So, I ran my first experiment using the Sweet Shop Specialty designer paper from the Occassions mini and the retired Sweet Stitches fabric brads.

I think I love fabric brads… I’m just bummed they are only here for April and won’t be returning when the new catalog arrives in June.  So if you love them too, make sure you order soon!
