Stampin’ Up! Leadership 2015- Day 1 Recap

So, after going to bed Wednesday night/Thursday morning at 3:30am and then getting up at 7:30, I told myself I was going to go to bed by midnight tonight.  (I couldn’t really go to bed earlier than that because I had an event that didn’t get me home until 11pm)…. so, it is now 12:45am and I’m still wrapping up everything.  Seriously, someone teach me how to travel and actually GET sleep! Smile

Today was the first day of the Leadership Conference here in Orlando for Stampin’ Up and it was FULL of information, tummy cramping laughter, great friends, and amazing project ideas!  I hope you don’t mind indulging me as I relive the day a little.  (and you can see ALL my pictures from today over on my Facebook page – Leadership Day 1 photo album)

    ———————————————————

So after getting a late start we headed to the convention center to get our bag and say hello to new and old friends around the convention center!

    2015-01-29 08.30.21

I was a total slacker, but my sweet friend Karina Chin gave me this amazing bag tag and notebook!

    2015-01-29 08.48.35

I was so glad to have a few of my Fun n’ Crafty stampers and downline here with me, it made it so much fun to be able to share this with them!

    IMG_3814

Even though we spent literally all morning and early afternoon going over compensation plan changes for demonstrators that are coming up in October.  I don’t mind math… but being tired and trying to do math is way harder! Smile

    We got a nice lunch

    2015-01-29 12.11.55

Had an (unintentionally) hilarious stamping presentation by Shelli Gardner…

    2015-01-29 15.44.58

See, when she was showing how to make these feathers using the new Cotton Twine and Washi Tape… she didn’t tell us she was making a feather at first and with the white stringy tail it looked like something a little different that had us all dying of laughter including Shelli when she realized  (think feminine product with a string ha ha)

They even gave us ALL a stamp set she was using! Smile

    2015-01-29 16.12.12

I participated in a great card swap (so many cute samples to share later)

    2015-01-29 12.55.102015-01-29 12.33.11

and loved seeing some old friends!  Including the adorable Andrea Withers2015-01-29 09.29.16

and my Stampin’ twin (when I cut my hair again) Julie Davison

    2015-01-29 22.17.46

Then in the evening it was time to head to Manager’s Reception!  A fun night out for any demonstrator with the title Manager or above.  So Karina and I were ready to grab the bus and go!

    IMG_3953

This year they rented out part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios and though it was a bit chilly, we had a chance to mingle….IMG_7268

You know, me and my buddy Shelli Gardner Winking smile

We also had a private showing of Fantasmic

Photo ops with the Mickey Mouse and friends…

Yummy desserts! Isn’t that cake pop adorable???

    IMG_7302

And even a hot chocolate bar… care to guess how many scoops of marshmallows went into my cup? Don’t stop at just one! Smile

So all in all, a great first day! Next up, more great sharing of business ideas from demonstrator speakers, more stamping demonstrations, more samples, and more playing with the latest products!

Ok, now on to the card!

Have I mentioned how much I love doing emboss resist cards?  Today I thought I would quickly share another sample I made for my embossing class using the Petal Parade stamp set from the Sale-a-Bration catalog from this year.  See.. it is possible for me to do this technique with a stamp set other than Lovely & Lacy!  ha ha.

I love how it looks like citrus and lemonade to me with the pinks and the yellows.  That is actually Crisp Canteloupe and Summer Starfruit as the inks for this card; they actually go together really well don’t you think?

To make it, I recommend stamping your sentiment in the middle FIRST!

And then randomly stamp your images using versamark.

Heat emboss with clear embossing powder to give you your shapes.

Then take your yellow sponges and starting from the MIDDLE of each embossed shape, sponge in a spiral pattern to get the saturation of color that you want

Once you have all your colors added, uses a little extra of one of the colors to sponge the in-between spaces to fill in all the white gaps.  That is it!

Oh, the other thing I wanted to show you from this card… embossing ribbon!  That is right, you heard me…. embossing RIBBONSmile

    image

It’s a little hard to tell the texture from the photo, but this is piece of the Crumb Cake seam binding ribbon that I placed over a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock to give it a bit of stiffness.  Once it is glued down – and I recommend glue stick for adhering the ribbon – then you can run it through the Big Shot in an embossing folder.  It gives you the texture and fabric look of ribbon, customized to any embossing folder pattern you have!  It’s actually really cool.

And don’t forget to get in on the FREE SHIPPING that is ending TODAY.  So if you have been looking at some items and want to save a little bit of money. Visit my online store and take advantage of the free shipping – especially combined with clearance rack and weekly deals!

  • A Sweet Spring Scrapbooking Layout & Some Cards

A Sweet Spring Scrapbooking Layout & Some Cards

Ok, it is officially the next to last day for Sale-a-bration.  So, as promised, I’m sharing my last few projects using my Sale-a-bration freebies.  I realized that the Sale-a-bration flyer doesn’t do the best job giving you a feel for the different stamps and papers so hopefully seeing them in person gives you some ideas for what you like and how to use what you have!

First up, a sweet scrapbook page that took me about 20 minutes to complete!

Seriously – only about 20 minutes, if that!  And that includes the journalling. Smile

Sorry the photo isn’t the best… I’m still trying to figure out the best way to photograph 12×12 layouts (if you have any tips, PLEASE leave me a comment and let me know what you do!)

Ok, so here is the real reason why this came together so quickly – it is made up of entirely scraps!  Aside from the button, and cutting down the Calyspo Coral designer paper for one of the photomats (from a scrap).  Everything else on the page is used exactly as is from my scrap pile!

Alright, I did a little sponging… but NO CUTTING!

I guess sometimes saving those scraps and die cuts is a good thing.

This page is for Caitlin’s first (and so far, only) time getting her hair done in a salon.  She barely lets me brush her hair and so trying to attempt a braid is a little too ambitious.  Smile  So I wanted to capture the moment when I had the chance!

    Stampin’ Supplies used

And I have a few extra cards to share with you today as well.  Just some bonus inspiration!

I love the Vivid Vases stamp set and turns out it kind of works with that crazy pattern from the Sweet Sorbet designer paper (can you believe this pattern come from the same pack as the paper used in the scrapbook page above?)

And then there is this super sweet and simple card I was given by Holly Jones:

This uses the Petal Parade stamp set for the focal flowers and then a simple small circle punchout of Silver Glimmer paper for the centers!

So, hope these gave you some ideas and I’ll be back tomorrow with two more simple ideas to finish out your Sale-a-bration season!  Smile

  • Create a Flower with Petal Parade

Create a Flower with Petal Parade

Turns out I’m the queen of last minute!  I knew that I was on-deck for a card for the Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration design team this week and I really did keep meaning to create some fun flower for our “Create a Flower” theme today.  But next thing I know, it is 9:15 last night and I’m working away on a card for a workshop this weekend when I suddenly get the reminder to have my card posted.  Oops!

Well, the card I was working on had a stamped flower, but it wasn’t a particularly unique use of the stamp.  So, I quickly put my thinking cap on for what was some flower I could create that was different than just the typical stamped flowers that you punch out.  (Don’t ask me why I didn’t think of using my new spiral flower die!)  But a hare-brained idea to create a layered punch art flower with the Petal Parade stamp set came to me and this is what turned out:

    petal parade punch art flower

So, aside from the sentiment, all the stamping for this came from the Petal Parade stamp set!  Some mixing and matching of ink, stamps, and punches and it came together.

For reference, here is what the stamp set looks like:

    petal parade SAB 2014

First was the base layer of the flower – I stamped the half flower image from the stamp set onto white paper in a random pattern.  I actually tried to make a triangle out of the flower image and then fill in the gaps with random stamping to fill it out.

    Petal Parade flowers

Then for the subsequent layers it was straight forward stamping and then punching it out.

Top layer – The larger round flower in Strawberry Slush
Layer 2 –  The daisy like flower in Crushed Curry
Layer 3 –  The larger round flower in Calypso Coral
Base layer – Random stamping of the half flower in Strawberry Slush

    petal parade punch art flower

I to a white piece of paper and cut out of the middle a flower shape using the Floral Frames Framelit and sponged both the outside edge and the inner cut-out edge of the flower with some Crumb Cake ink.  Then I could just glue that to a Crushed Curry card base and glue down my flower punchouts to the middle of the flower.

I made a couple leaves out of the artsy chevrons from the stamp set and cut them out and adhered them to the sides of the flowers.

Then just add a few pearls, a sentiment, and some really bad random stamping (seriously, don’t look too close! 🙂 ) and you have yourself a card!

So what do you think?  Ok for a last minute idea for a punch art flower?  Hopefully it at least gave you some ideas to try at home!

  • A Burst of Sweet Sorbet & Petal Parade

A Burst of Sweet Sorbet & Petal Parade

I was going through the cards I had photographed recently and realized that I made this card a while back but had never shared it here on the blog.  So, why not share it today!

I’m usually such a hoarder with my designer series paper that I have a hard time using large pieces of patterns.  But I love how the paper from the Sale-a-Bration catalog has such pretty prints and they look great as backgrounds that when I saw this card on pinterest I knew I had to give it a try!

Fun side story – I had pinned this card and was going to work on it later in the day when my good friend Annie Lee came by and was showing me some of the cards she had made for her Card Buffet class.  Turns out she made this card and had an extra card kit with her she had brought for me to make!  We had both found and loved the same card design – she was just faster to get it made than me!  Guess it goes to show great card designs really do move through the crafting world thanks to Pinterest. Smile

But back to the card, because this is almost completely about the paper, it goes together really quickly!  Plus, because the patterns in the Sweet Sorbet paper match the stamps in the Petal Parade designer paper, you can add a few accent flowers to your card and have it all tie in!

Both this paper set and the stamps are only going to be around through March 31st, so don’t miss out!

    Fun Upcoming Events:

    • All-You-Can-Make Card Day is TODAY!  I can still accommodate a few more people, so if you are in the Seattle area and interested in some afternoon stamping, come on over to my home in Bellevue, WA to make some fun blast from the past cards. You pick which designs you want to make and how many cards to make.  It’s open house style, so come over anytime between 1pm and 5pm.  See the details here.
    • Fun n’ Crafty Stamp & Share – March 22nd
I’m hosting my first big group event next Saturday for my group of Fun n’ Crafty demonstrators and other Stampin’ Up demonstrators in the area.  We’ll be getting together for an afternoon of displays, stamping demonstrations, demonstrator tips, make & take projects, and doorprizes!
I have a few open spots for this inaugural event and so if you are a demo in the Seattle area or would be interested in learning more about joining my Fun n’ Crafty group, and you would like to come stamp and be inspired next weekend.. let me know and I’d love to have you join us!  email me at jennifer@nwstamper.com for more details!

  • A Pretty Idea for Petal Parade

A Pretty Idea for Petal Parade

I will admit, when I saw the catalog image for the Petal Parade stamp set that is available as part of Sale-a-Bration (you know, get it free with a $50 order!), I thought it looked kind of boring.  Some abstract flower images and that was it.  But then – like usual – I saw some samples and realized how pretty this set can be… especially for creating your own backgrounds like in a card that I found by Erna Logtenberg that I just had to CASE:

This card has a little bit of everything in it:  stamping, embossing, ribbons, punches…I guess I just needed to fit in a die cut in there and I’d have the whole package! Smile

But I loved this color combination and thought it worked so well with this stamp set.  I used:

    • Baked Brown Sugar
    • Crisp Canteloupe
    • Early Espresso
    • Whisper White

It’s a pretty and elegant combination don’t you think?

For the sentiment, I switched things up and pulled out my long neglected Round Array stamp set and instead of punching it out using the 7/8” scallop punch, I used a bigger circle punch instead (1-1/4”).  I thought the extra white space helped the sentiment not get lost.

Did you see that two of the colors of the stretch ruffle ribbon are on sale this week as part of the weekly deals?  The Coastal Cabana and Strawberry Slush colors.. and you could use this same layout and design and just switch up the colors to match what is on sale.  Like Strawberry Slush, Baked Brown Sugar, and Early Espresso… or Coastal Cabana, Smoky Slate, and Silver glitter paper!

In fact, now I’m off to try out the different color combinations because I think they are going to look awesome! Smile

  • A Spring Card with Petal Parade

Have you ever noticed how some stamp sets look completely BLAH in the catalog but then you see it stamped a few different ways and you realize it is actually a great set?  That happened to me last year with the Oh, Hello stamp set and now in the new Sale-a-Bration Catalog, the Petal Parade stamp set is very easy to look over, yet it makes really cute cards!

    See?

I love how bright and happy this card is.  All of the stamped images (except for the words) come from the Petal Parade stamp set. I just mixed in some Baked Brown Sugar cardstock, some Strawberry Slush ruffled ribbon, and the sentiment from the Happy Day stamp set.  Done!

Yes, all of the images you see are stamped.  Smile

I was flattered when my neighbor told me it looked like the paper came with those flower images printed on!

Also out today – new Weekly Deals!

Just a reminder that it is Tuesday which means we have new weekly deals available.  Here is what is up for 2/3 – 2/9:

  • Sale-a-Bration KickOff Cards–Sweet Sorbet, Banners, & More

You may have noticed that earlier this week, was the start of Stampin’ Up’s big spring promotion – Sale-a-Bration.  It is a really fun promotion that basically gets you free stuff no matter what you do!  You can

    So yeah, basically everyone wins!

Anyway, I always like to throw a party when a new catalog comes out and at the beginning of Sale-a-bration.  It is a great excuse to hang out with friends, share samples I go at recent events, let everyone see and try out a TON of new products from the Occasions and Sale-a-bration catalogs, and STAMP!  (what kind of party would it be if there was no stamping? Winking smile )

Wanna see what we made?  Here you go!

This was the first card we made and inspired loosely by a card I saw from a German demonstrator named Ines.

I’ll admit, when I saw Petal Parade in the Sale-a-bration catalog it looked a little boring to me, but let me just say I have been having a blast playing with it and think it may be my favorite stamp set from SAB!  Plus, got to add in that little detail with the cork and the twine from the Sweet Sorbet Accessories bundle.

    Stampin’ Up Supplies Used
Stamps – Petal Parade (SAB), Perfect Pennants
Ink – Summer Starfruit, Baked Brown Sugar, Pool Party, Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Canteloupe
Paper – Whisper White, Baked Brown Sugar, Pool Party
Accessories – Sweet Sorbet Accessories – Crisp Canteloupe twine & cork stickers (SAB)

I also really wanted to use the Banner Blast stamp set and Banner punch and so we made this card:

This card is a more direct CASE from my friend and look-alike, Julie Davison.  I made a few adjustments like changing up the sentiment, making it a standard size card, and using the Decorative Dots embossing folder for the starfruit trim.

    So cute, huh?!

    Stampin’ Supplies Used
Stamps – Banner Blast (SAB), Sweet Essentials
Ink – Pool Party, Basic Black, Summer Starfruit, Crisp Cantaloupe
Paper – Sweet Sorbet designer paper (SAB), Crisp Cantaloupe, Whisper White, Summer Starfruit
Accessories – Banner punch (SAB), Big Shot, Decorative Dots embossing folder (SAB), stampin’ dimensionals

The girls who made it to the party enjoyed them and hopefully they give you some ideas to try when you order and get your free Sale-a-Bration goodies too!
