  • In Color Fun Flower Thank You Card

I needed a hostess thank you gift for a recent private class and while deciding what to do, I stumbled upon these cute 2011-2013 In Color Pizza Boxes by Kymberli (those are the Lucky Limeade, Pool Party, Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder, and Island Indigo colors for those of you – almost everyone – who doesn’t know the In Colors by their years…hee hee)

Anyway, I LOVED how the colors went together so awesomely using the Fun Flower Big Shot die.  So, I put together a box for my hostess – only I did a bigger box so it would fit the cards she was making at her event.  Of course I totally forgot to take a picture, oops!

But then I had some left over pieces and an amazing friend (Annie Lee) who was doing me a big favor and so I wanted to make her a card to say thank you.  And this is what came out:

It was quick to put together and a great way to use up some scraps.  I just ran a scrap of Pool Party cardstock through my Big Shot with the Chevron Embossing Folder to accent the sentiment (the Thanks from Oh Hello stamp set).

Then for a final touch, I added Crystal Effects to the center circle of my flower for a bit of shine and dimension for the flower.

Hmm, seeing this card again is making me want to make more.  Maybe this will have to be my next set of Thank You cards for my amazing friends and customers.  Ooooh… and change out the sentiment to the “Oh Hello” sentiment and send it out to people who need random sunshine in their day.

Ok, guess my Big Shot and I have a date with some In Color cardstock!  So, while I go off and do that I hope you have a bright and sunny rest of your day!

  • Size Doesn’t Always Matter!

It is easy for me to make my cards to the standard card base size; sometimes mixing it up with a square 4 1/4” x 4 1/4”.   But usually sticking with my basic because it is so efficient with cardstock.
(for me, a standard card base is 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” – if a visual helps, I have a post on cutting a standard card base here)

Well, sometimes, I have a vision of a card in my head and as I create it I discover that it totally does NOT fit the standard size.  But when I finish, I realize that it may be an odd size, but it works!

I started with the little elephant from the Cross My Heart stamp set and was drawn to the new Sycamore St designer paper from the Sale-a-Bration flyer.  So, I grabbed some punches and got to work.

I saw a card created by Amy Barnes that used the mini brads in the center of the Petite Curly Label punch and loved the look, so I knew I needed to incorporate that as well.  Then add some varying dimension with Stampin’ Dimensionals and glue dots and I had a row of patterns and shapes as my focal point.

But in the end, I needed the background strip to be narrower to make it look right.  And then the base needed to be narrower to balance it out.  So, the end result was something like 3 1/2” x 5 1/2”.  I finished it with a sentiment from my new favorite stamp set – Oh, Hello.  So, it may be an odd shape, but that is OK by me!

  • Oh, Hello… and Thanks So Much!

I was going to share this card today because it was a card that I created recently as some customer thank you notes and I just loved how it turned out.  It is so easy to try to overcomplicate a card and feel like you need to keep adding layers and embellishments… or maybe that is just me. Smile

But then I noticed this week that my Facebook page has hit 300 “likes” and I couldn’t help but do a little happy dance and feel a bit in awe that that many people could enjoy my ramblings and my project shares to want to connect up with me on Facebook!

So today’s card is not just a thank you to everyone who supports my hobby and business as a customer; but also to those of you who like me enough to connect up on Facebook… or to stop by my blog here and say hello!

Alright, everything I keep typing is getting a little mushy so just imagine a virtual {hug} (or a virtual high-5 if you aren’t the hugging type) and you’ll catch my drift!

So, have a wonderful weekend and I can’t wait to finish editing the photos of the projects I did this week and get them up on the blog!  So, I’ll be back soon with more creative ideas.

Oh, and if you are local –

I finally got my February classes posted!  I know, took me forever, right?

The next class is February 1st at 7pm.

It is Cute & Classic Cards and we’ll be meeting at the Panera Bread in Redmond.  I’d love for you to join me, so please let me know ASAP if you will be able to join us!
