  • Founder’s Circle Day 2: horses, swapping, & treats!

Alright, I’m really supposed to be sleeping right now given that I need to be up in 5 hours to eat and hop on a bus to the manufacturing plant in Kanab… but I just had to share with you some of the cool things I did and saw (including new product samples!!)  So, I’m going to try to make this quick, since you’ll soon learn that I cannot pare down photos to save my life. Winking smile

Oh, and if you want more realtime updates, make sure you visit my Facebook page where I post periodically throughout the day!

Ok, so the great thing about Thursday is that we didn’t have anything scheduled for most of the day.  No schedule = SLEEP IN!!  Some gals got up and went canyoneering at 6:30am and while I love rock climbing, I don’t think I could have gotten my butt up in time for that.  Instead, I had plans to go horseback riding in the afternoon – a much more civilized time.

So the morning was spent trying to meet more people and chat and socialize.  I also had to check out the Horseshoe Lounge (our hospitality suite) and it had grown overnight!

There were now tons of couches, more treats, new project samples, make & take tables!

And they had special treats for us… a build-your-own-trail mix bar!  When I put together my crafting retreat, I’m totally stealing this idea!

You can kind of see the little mason jars below the table, that is what we were given to fill up.  Here is my yummy jar I’ve been munching on all day… I missed lunch so I was really grateful I had it!

Finally, each day we get to toss a horseshoe for prizes.  Depending on where your horseshoe lands in the pit, you get 1 of 3 prizes (today I won Eastern Elegance designer paper; yesterday I won Silver Taffeta ribbon); but if you get a ringer, you get all 3 prizes of the day!!  Here is hoping tomorrow I will finally have the technique down and get a ringer!

I retreated to my room to catch up on emails since I was woefully behind (if you have emailed me and still not gotten a response, please try again as you should have heard from my today otherwise!)  So, I got caught up and then it was time to head off for our trail ride.

I got the horse Jazzy to ride for the afternoon and he sure did have spunk!  But that made it fun.

I did the trail ride with the fabulous Lyssa Zwolanek, Christi Beck, and Karen Trelfa.  We went through trees and meadows and ended up an hour later overlooking an AMAZING canyon!

Jennifer Blomquist and Lyssa at Snow Canyon

The ride was great, but we ended up getting back to the hotel with 15 minutes to eat, change, grab our swaps, and get to the PJ party!  I managed the fastest shower in my life (just under 4 minutes) because I wanted to wash the dust off and made it just in time to listen to some great presentations by other demos.

I think the most powerful part for me was hearing these other very successful demonstrators talk about some of the same problems I was struggling with (life balance, pushing hard towards goals while still making sure family is a priority, trying to make sure their business was being run with the right intent behind it,etc.)  Tissue was flowing around the room as many of the women saw the same reflection in their lives.

But it ended on a lighter note as we headed into the halls to line up to swap.  With almost 120 of us, we literally stretched halfway across the hotel!

Then we finished the evening with some handmade ice cream sandwiches.  I tried the Snickerdoodle/Strawberry Cheesecake.  Yum!

Then more gabbing until we realized we had to get up pretty darn early to head to Kanab to visit the manufacturing plant and eat lunch with it’s employees.  (I CAN’T WAIT!!)

And back in our room was another pillow gift!  This time a cute wooden tube (that took me FOREVER to figure out how to open) and inside was a lovely infinity scarf.

You know, those scarves that have both ends sewn together to form a circle.  I have no idea how to wear one of those, but it looks comfy and cute.  So, hopefully I will get a lesson on using it or if you know how, leave me a comment and let me know! Smile

And finally, I just had to lay out all my swaps on my bed to see what all I got.  Um… I got a lot!!  This is almost 120 swap cards, and you should click on the picture to see it bigger so you can see the amazing cards and projects!

Alright, was that enough photos for you? Smile  I even cut down some.  But now it is time for me to crash.  My wakeup call comes in 4 hours and so time to grab as much sleep as I can.

I’ll be back with more soon!

  • Have You Heard? Black Ink Updates & New Wood Mount Cases!

When I woke up this morning, I saw that Stampin’ Up! had put together a sneak peek video on one of the new improvements that will be coming out with the new annual catalog in June and I was so stinkin’ excited that I had to share!  Plus there have been some other product updates and announcements that have just come out (updates on the black ink and color refresh) so today is all about getting caught up!

Update on the Black Ink Issues

imageSo, after the introduction of the Firm Foam ink pads, some of the colors had to be reformulated including the Basic Black ink.  After the reformulation, some people noticed that their new black ink pads were not drying well and would smear a while after stamping.

Stampin’ Up! has been working all year with their manufacturer to find a way to adjust the ink formula to keep that from happening and they just announced that they have found a solution and have implemented the change!  (They adjusted the amount of dye in the ink refill liquid)

You should still see the rich black color but have it dry much faster now – more like the rest of the colors.  Yay!

So if you’ve been waiting, you can get the new ink here:  Ink pad  |  Ink Refill

Color Refresh Update – Items are Selling Out

I’ve mentioned before that with the change in the Color Families coming out in the new catalog, Stampin’ Up! has discontinued 10 current colors.  This means that the ink, cardstock, ink refills, and accessories for these colors are while supplies last.

I know that bunch of you have jumped on getting stocked up on your favorites, but if you haven’t yet, I wanted to update you on what is selling out.  So far the following is gone:

    • Baja Breeze – reinker
    • Bashful Blue – reinker
    • Certainly Celery – reinker, 8 1/2” x 11 cardstock
    • Not Quite Navy – reinker
    • Pretty in Pink – reinker
    • Regal Rose – reinker, 8 1/2” x 11 cardstock
    • River Rock – reinker

Want all the details about which colors are leaving and what 10 new colors are coming? I have pictures and info posted here!

New Wood Mount Cases Are Coming!

In the Stampin’ Success, a magazine for demonstrator, Stampin’ Up! has revealed some of the new products that are coming our way in a couple months (can I just say I cannot wait to see the new catalog!)

One of the things I am most excited about right now is a new style of wood mount cases!  Yay!  I like the clear clamshell cases they currently have but the problem is that when I try to store them, the tabs that make it easy to open and close the cases get caught on each other and with all the different size cases, it can be like a game of Tetris trying to make everything fit!

You know you play the game trying to figure out how to stack your cases so they fit on your shelf and don’t fall over as soon as you pull out one. Smile

So, they will be coming out with cases for the wood mount stamps that are very similar to the clear mount cases!

    • Standardized sizes!  It looks like one bigger size to match the clear mount cases and a smaller size that is half height so you can fit two in the same space as one tall one.
    • Stamp images on the spine!  So you can stack them up like books and know what all the stamps are in the box!
    • Get extra cases for your old sets!  Just like how you can get extra clear mount cases, you will be able to buy extra wood mount cases too.
    • A template for creating your own stamp labels!  So if you are like me and are going to move your old stamps into the new boxes, you can easily create a label for your box.  I’m soooo glad they are doing this, making it easy for us!

Want to see them?  Check out the video:

“Dude, You’re Welcome” Guy stamp kit

Stampin’ Up! had guys on the mind and decided to try out creating a stamp kit for guys designed by guys in the Home Office.  It’s a set of 4 stamps (double mounted), 12 postcards, 12 envelopes, and an ink pad.  Like so:

    image

Just a few things to note that they did based on their research while designing the kit:

    • The stamp blocks don’t have a groove along the edges
    • Stamps come pre-mounted
    • The cards are postcards… no folds here.  And are in 4 neutral colors
    • The envelopes are all the same light grey color

I love the tag line – Real Men Build Cards  Smile

  • Here comes the Big Shot

I think one of the biggest announcements at this years convention was the partnering of Stampin’ Up! with Sizzix for not only the offering of the Big Shot die-cut system but also exclusive Stampin’ Up! dies.

Yes, everything here is made with the Big Shot!

If you haven’t used a die-cutting machine before, let me tell you how easy and how useful they are to use.  All it takes is putting the metal die with the image you want on the platform, place your paper over the die, turn the crank, and you now have a perfectly cut out flower/envelope/letter/etc.  They are perfect for scrapbooking, projects (like the templates for envelopes and paper baskets), gifts, and adding a little more flair to your cards.

Check out all of the designs here

Fun fact: Not only can the Big Shot cut through paper, but it can also cut through fabric, light wood, and even thin metal!
