  • A Little Bit of This and That for a Fun Thank You Card

    I have a “matchy-matchy” mind I’m learning.  When I have product kits or coordinating suites, I tend to make projects that use all the stuff from that one collection.  So, that makes today’s share a bit more impressive for me since I pretty much used a little bit of this and that of things lying around my craft table to create this fun thank you card for a friend.

    I was playing with a few of my favorite new things (the Oh Hello stamp set and Tea for Two designer paper), but then I wanted to give the new Designer Brads a try.

    I used my Pink Pirouette cardstock to make the small pink circle in the middle of the brad (you use the circle from the Itty Bitty Punch pack to easily punch this out).  Then I loosely formed a bow with the new Two Tone ribbon and then wrapped my designer brad around the center of the bow to pinch it together and make a cute accent.  The wrapping the brad tines around the bow did use up most of the metal from the brad tines, and so I ended up adhering my bow to my card with glue dots.

    But all together, it was fun putting this card together and hopefully my friend liked it. Smile

  • My Little Valentine with Greeting Card Kids

    You may remember my somewhat recent watercoloring on glossy paper posting using this adorable Greeting Card Kids stamp set.  Well, I’m back at it again, this time with a Valentime’s Day theme.  I just loved this cute little girl and thought she needed to be colored up for the holiday.

    It was the same idea, heat emboss the stamped image – this time in black – and grab my neglected aqua brush and get to work coloring and blending on glossy paper.  I tried my hand at shading with mixed results.

    But then I preceeded to distract from… ahem, I mean highlight, the coloring with some brightly colored accents on the card. Smile  From the Real Red polka dot dsp from the Polka Dot Parade pack, to the wrapped Cherry Cobbler bakers twine… and just a touch of bling in the corner.  All adds up (I think) to a sweet little card that needs no sentiment at all.

    And if you know me and how hard of a time I have leaving a card front sentiment-free, you know this is a big deal for me! ha ha!

    So, grab your aqua pen and give it a whirl.  I promise it’s fun!

  • Watercoloring a Sweet Little Christmas Card

    I am so excited to finally be sharing some new projects with you again here on my blog.  I have had a number of projects that were waiting for photos to be taken and I’ve finally gotten all the photos taken and edited so I can get back into the swing of things of sharing them with you!  Poor Nicholas (my 2 yr old son) has been kind of sick this last week (mostly in the middle of the night which is no fun for any of us!) so we’ve all been a bit sleep deprived and so the amount of time to get stuff done has been shortened by quite a bit.

    But that makes me all the more thankful for my friend and downline, Tanya, who came over this weekend to craft and play!  I rarely get a concentrated chunk of time to just play with my stamps, but that is exactly what we did!  She even shared with me two-tone watercoloring on glossy paper.  Here is one of the cards I made as she was showing me:

    I was using Greeting Card Kids (thanks for the loan, Katy!) and experimenting with shading.  Given that I’m NOT an artist by any means, I had no idea what I was doing, so I have to admit I was pretty happy with how it turned out. Smile

    Here is a closer up view of my coloring job:

     

    All we did was heat emboss our stamped image on a piece of Glossy White cardstock.  Then we used an aqua painter to color in the image starting with one color (the lighter shade) and then highlighting and blending over it with a darker shade of the same color.  The cool thing was that it dries looking more watercolor-y… you just have to be careful you don’t have pools of water/ink anywhere because those dry as a dark blob. Smile  I’ll let you guess how I know that one….

    Then for the rest of the card I just used some scraps I had around my craft table to pull together a quick holiday card.  For some reason I’m really into torn edges right now so I just had to do that with my Festival of Prints dsp and then some Cherry Cobbler scallop dotted ribbon to accent my image.  Stick a gold brad in it and BAM! a faux bow!

    So, I hope you enjoyed this Christmas card idea.
