  • Masculine Card using Affection Collection?

    So I put a question mark at the end of my blog title because I’m trying to decide if this card counts as “masculine” or not.  It definitely isn’t flowery, or pink, or have lots of lace and bows.  So I think it counts.  But take a look and you can decide for yourself.

    Have I mentioned yet that I’m having a total love affair with Island Indigo right now?  Some of my favorite cards highlight Island Indigo and I’m already feeling like 8 months isn’t enough time to love this color before it’s term as an In Color ends.  So, hopefully you don’t mind it because you’ll be seeing a lot more I’m sure! Smile

    This was a quick card that I made to show a few of the new items in the Holiday catalog including:

    * the woodgrain embossing folder

    * the 7/8” Cotton ribbon

    * the Affection Collection stamp set

    I was in a rush and so I didn’t want to wait for the ink to dry if I stamped on the ribbon; so instead I stamped next to the ribbon.  I also grabbed the awesome Decorative Label punch and stamped and sponged the sentiment.  Then I took two more punchouts of the same shape and cut them to give me the matting I wanted for the sentiment.  (If you don’t already know how that works, let me know and I can put together a video to share it!)

    My favorite thing about this card is how the Early Espresso sponging around the Friends sentiment layered over the Cajun Craze matting somehow makes it look like the edges are rounded and dimensional!

  • Fun Pumpkin Halloween Card with Jack of All Trades

    Alright, I’m starting to get into the fall and Halloween spirit… if you follow my Facebook fan page, you’ll have seen that I have been debating whether to jump into the Halloween project bandwagon but everyone’s enthusiasm for these cute projects has convinced me.  So, don’t be surprised to see more Halloween treats posted here over the next few weeks! 🙂

    But in the meantime, I wanted to share this swap I got at convention that I just LOVE!  From the colors to the embossed and sanded Core’dinations cardstock to the fun jack-o-lantern, it just made me smile.

    card created by Pam Zimmerman

    This card uses the Jack of All Trades stamp set to create the pumpkins and even includes the witches hat!  (I had to double check because it was so perfect).  But I really like the added touch of the Woodgrain embossed Early Espresso core’dinations cardstock and then a sanded version of the core’dinations cardstock for the modern label punch out with the sentiment.

    So now that I’m in the mood for Halloween, I want to hear – what is your style for Halloween projects? Cutesy characters, Gothic designs, or something else?

    Guess its time for me to start creating!

  • Scentsational Gingerbread Man Christmas Card

    Last night was the monthly team meeting for my group of fabulous Fun n’ Crafty folks on my Stampin’ Up! team.  I love having the chance to chat and stamp with some amazing crafters from across the US!  If you have been thinking of joining Stampin’ Up!, I’d love to have you join our fun group!

    Well, I wanted to share some stamping tips and ideas and so I put together this card to share.  Its one of my first playings with the new Scentsational Season stamp set.

    Now this Gingerbread man begs to be used with the oh so yummy Sugar and Spice scented embossing powder.  Oh man, I love opening that jar of embossing powder. 🙂

    Anyway, the point of this card was to show how you can do embossing with a colored image without needing to stamp first in the color and then use the stamp-a-ma-jig to line up your image in versamark.  Yes, that way totally works, but I’m lazy sometimes.  So, I showed how you can do the following steps to some great embossing:

    1. Ink your stamp using Versamark ink
    2. Ink your stamp using your color of choice (notice that I didn’t say “stamp” in between step 1 and 2!)
    3. Stamp your image
    4. Sprinkle on your embossing powder
    5. Heat emboss and enjoy!

    Because the versamark is layered on first when you are inking up your stamp, that means it is exposed last when you stamp on your paper – so the versamark is the top layer of ink on your paper.  That makes the sticky Versamark available to grab and hold the embossing powder.

    I also thought I would show off some of the cool Core’dinations cardstock in Cherry Cobbler.  Its just a cute way to easily add some flair to your paper edges.

    Well, I hope you enjoyed this card and stamping idea!  If you have any questions about it or the benefits of becoming a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, just drop me a line and I’d love to chat!

  • Who Knew a Canning Jar Stamp Could Be So Cute?!

    I was putting together this month’s Cards to Go kits and knew I wanted to break out a bunch of my new goodies from the Holiday catalog and so I started mixing and matching things from my shelves.  Now, sometimes this random grab and go process ends in something that looks like one of my cats ate a bunch of craft supplies and then spit it up on my table… but thankfully this was not one of those times!  Ha ha!

    Well, I started with the Canning Jar stamp from the Perfectly Preserved stamp set.  Ever since I first saw this stamp set, I totally loved it – I just didn’t know what I would do with it.  Well, how about this:

    I think it is sweet!  Oh, and I have some totally fun ideas that I’m going to be putting together later this week to share too.  But anyway, back to this card. 🙂

    I had the 7/8” Cotton ribbon and I just had to experiment with stamping on it.  I would say SUCCESS!  (Plus, you can’t see the part of the ribbon that I played with before the ink dried and thus totally smeared the ink around the ribbon surface… but lets just say, lesson learned.)  Oh, and did you notice the Core’dinations cardstock too?

    So, there you go… my first and definitily not my last, Perfectly Preserved card sample.  I knew there was a reason I loved it!

    Coming up in tomorrow’s post:  I just had to share a scrapbook layout I created today along with what happens when your 2.5 yr old is unattended in your craft room and they discover the marker you used to journal in said scrapbook page!

    But until then….
