  • Botanical Blooms Birthday Card with Fun Front Edge

Botanical Blooms Birthday Card with Fun Front Edge

When I saw the Botanical Builders thinlits, I knew that while the flower dies were cute, the edgelits were awesome!  That is the vine looking die that is long and skinny, because what it does is make cool edges for your cards!  Just like this card here:

Now, I can’t take credit for this card design.  See, I can also admit that while some dies and stamps inspire me with lots of my own ideas (Like the Sunburst die, which is why I put together that Online Class!) but these Botanical Builders dies are harder for me. I love pretty much everything I see with them, but I needed a kick in the pants to get my mojo going.  So I turned to a crafter’s best friend – Google Image Search and Pinterest!  I looked up cards to CASE to get started and just loved this one.

I had to guess a bit at how it went together, but I think it came out fine.  In mine, I used the vine edgelit to cut off the bottom of the card front and then adhered the patterned paper to the inside of the card base (so that when you flip open the card, the paper stays put.  It just gives cool shadows and dimension I thought.  Or I could just be overthinking and I’ll go with it is just easier to have a big, solid, flat place to glue the paper that I don’t have to worry it can get pulled off. Smile

Of course we had to get the flower in there and so we stamped with the Botanical Blooms stamp set and added the die cut flower.  I even added some of the Gold Wink of Stella to the middle of the flower because, well, you know, everything is better with sparkle!

The thing that takes the most amount of time on this card is the flower, but otherwise it all comes together super quick.  So, mix and match the edgelit with other designs and punches and you could have a card together in no time flat!

  • Quick Congrats Notecard with Balloon Celebrations and Gold Wink of Stella

Sometimes you need a quick card for some event and you want it to be cute but not take a lot of prep of supplies.  Well, check out this card that I have for you today that is PERFECT for using up some scraps and can easily be turned into a congrats, thank you, OR birthday card!

This uses one of my favorite stamp sets right now, the Balloon Celebrations set.  And the better bonus is that between the speckled fill stamp from the set and the technique of stamping off, you can get a variety of shading looks with ONE ink pad!

    1. Stamp the small balloon in Crushed Curry onto the card front
    2. Stamp the speckled shading image in Crushed Curry on top of the stamped balloon
    3. Ink up the solid balloon stamp again in Crushed Curry and then stamp first onto a piece of scrap paper, then before inking again, stamp onto the card front.  PS – it looks really cool if you slightly overlap the balloons, but I apparently forgot that in this version of the card. Smile
    4. Stamp the speckled shading image in Crushed Curry over the lighter stamped balloon.

You could have stamped off the shaded image first before stamping to get a more subtle shading but I liked it being a little darker to match the other balloon.

I did the same thing with the outline of the balloons.  I stamped the outline on the darker balloon in full strength Tip Top Taupe, but on the lighter balloon, I stamped off on to scrap paper first before stamping on my card.

Playing with Gold Wink of Stella

I also used this card as a fun way to try out a few different options for the Gold Wink of Stella.  We all love our Wink of Stella, but sometimes the gold is a bit harder to figure out where to use.

So, first I used it to color my sentiment – the Expressions natural elements.  I wanted a subtle shimmer and it made it a bit more yellow to go with my Crushed Curry balloons.  You can see from the product picture how light the wood is normally:

Plus aren’t these words great?  You can use them to turn this card into one for just about any occasion by changing out the word you add to the front!

Pro tip – when adhering your words, lightly dot the back with the adhesive from the Fine-Tip glue pen!  It holds great and by dotting it, the glue won’t squish out the sides!

The other way I used my Gold Wink of Stella was to add some fun shading to the balloons from the It’s My Party designer paper stack.  It is subtle but really makes a fun difference in the final effect of the card.

So, hopefully that gives you some fun ideas for using some of the supplies in your stash!  And if you don’t have the Wooden words, I would grab some now before they sell out!  They and a few other items on this card are on the retiring list and so grab them while you can… including:

  • Fun with Balloons Birthday Card using Balloon Celebrations

One of the things I love to do with my team is participate in a card swap each time a new catalog comes out.  With this awesome Occasions catalog that Stampin’ Up released in January, I was especially excited to see what everyone would create.  For my card, I was inspired to use the Balloon Celebrations bundle – the Balloon Celebrations stamp with the matching Balloon Bouquet punch.  Not only can you get them for 15% off when you buy them together… but they are the 1-2 punch that makes cute cards super easy!  Here is what I came up with:

With a few basic layers, you can create an easy peasy base for your card:

    • 5 1/2” x 8 1/2” card base (SU – Bermuda Bay CS)
    • 3 3/4” x 5” mat (SU – Soft Sky CS)
    • 3 1/2” x 4 3/4” center piece (SU – Whisper White)

Just stamp the Whisper White cardstock with some clouds from the Balloon Celebrations stamp set using Soft Sky ink and you have a pretty sky for your balloons to float by in!

I didn’t want to cover up the clouds, so I mounted the balloons to a piece of 2” wide vellum… it is 2” wide because I knew I wanted to punch the top with the scalloped tag topped punch!  It just makes for more pretty ruffles like the clouds!

Each balloon was stamped with the solid base color, then a speckly overlay, and then the outline.  The nice thing is – the stamps are photopolymer so they are totally clear which makes lining them up super easy!  Then I punch them out with the matching punch and started layering them with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The final touch though, was for the sentiment, I used the long string word “let us celebrate” which I think was actually meant to be a balloon string, and turned it sideways and heat embossed it in black!  So it stood out as a delicate sentiment for my card.  Add a bow from the stitched Bermuda Bay ribbon and attach with a glue dot and you are done!

If you want to see what is all in the bundle… including how they make the speckled balloons so easy for you… check it out:

Don’t forget, you can save 15% when you get them in a bundle!

  • Project Ideas for Stampin’Up 2016 OnStage Display Board Stamper Submission

Project Ideas for Stampin’Up 2016 OnStage Display Board Stamper Submission

I’m so excited to be headed to Salt Lake City in April for the first OnStage Live event in North America!  This is the new live event (think Convention) that Stampin’ Up holds to kick off the new catalogs, share new ideas, and get everyone inspired.  I’ll be headed there with a portion of my Fun n’ Crafty stampers team and know it will be great.

This year, they are bringing back Display Stampers… so they have invited folks to submit some of their favorite/best projects that they think represent their style for a chance to be selected to create projects for the display boards at OnStage.  I thought it would be fun to throw my hat in the ring since I love creating; but my goodness it was hard to narrow down my favorites.  Here are a few that I think give a few ideas.  So, either way, I hope it gives YOU some inspiration!

    3 Card Ideas

    Card 1 – Balloon Celebrations

For my first card, I thought I’d share one I made for our team swap using the Balloon Celebrations and vellum.

I haven’t gotten the blog post written quite yet, but here is a close up of some of the details that are always so hard to see in the full card pictures:

The strings and words are heat embossed on the vellum scalloped topped tag and then the balloons are stamped and punched out on top.  Then add a little bow with the Bermuda Bay stitched ribbon for a final touch.

Blog post is up!  See more details for this card here

Card 2 – Fun with Washi Tape

This was a card I put together to show a couple different ways to use washi tape… as a background and with the masking tape technique to create the background Lost Lagoon stripes.

It is a little hard to see, but the “thank you” is stamped on a Project Life grid card on the bottom and shows through a hole to the Project Life grid card that is covered in Washi Tape on top!

Card 3 – Bear Hugs & Party Pants Collar Fold Card

I finally decide to add this card in because I thought it was a fun and different way to use the bear from the Bear Hugs stamp using a fold that hasn’t been used lately for your paper (the folded back Collar Fold).

So, Display Stamper Reviewers… those flowers are for you. 😉

Also, it is hard to see, but I added Crystal Effects to the balloons on the patterned paper, which makes this paper EXTRA AWESOME!  Really, you should try it with your paper at home!

Whew, that was hard and there is so much more I want to show you now, but I guess I’ll have to wait for future blog posts. 🙂

    Scrapbook Page

Next up, I needed to put together a scrapbook page.  I’m proud to say this came entirely from my brain and I am really happy with how it turned out.

Legoland Pirate scrapbook page with Botanical Blooms paper 2

I mixed the Botanical Gardens designer paper and the Corrugated Cardstock for my background with the Going Global stamp set to add color and boyish fun with the page.

    3D Projects

Finally I had to put together two 3D projects… always the hardest for me!  But I still had fun playing with ideas for the recent holidays.

Easter Gift Bag with Honeycomb Happiness and the Sunburst Thinlit

I had so much fun playing with all my new stuff and the Gift Bag Punch Board to pull together this Easter treat bag –

Doesn’t the Sunburst thinlit make such a great sun for behind our adorable chick?!

Envelope Punch Board Valentine Owl Treat Bag

I guess I’ve had a thing for punch boards lately.  This time I used the Envelope Punch board to create a little treat bag for Valentines.  Then I pulled out my trusty owl punch to make a cute little mascot for our project.

    Bonus Card

I LOVE this card but wasn’t sure if it would count because it isn’t the standard size – it is a 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″.  So putting here for bonus option just because I think you might like it too.

So thank you for stopping by and thank you to the Display Stamper Reviewers for checking this out and your consideration!  I can’t wait for OnStage!
