  • Quinceanera Treat Bag, Perfect For Any Princess

Well, I hope you had as great of a weekend as I did!  I had relatives from the midwest and California in town for the weekend and so we did a lot of visiting and traveling around the Seattle area.  This was the first time my hubby’s Grandma, Aunt, and Uncle had met our daughter Caitlin; so that was cool as well!  Anyway, that kept me away from my computer and blogging a bit more than I was thinking – so, here I am trying to get caught back up. 🙂

I thought I’d share this cute treat bag we made at the Hispanic Night event at Convention.  This is a free evening activity that is meant to help share some of the cultural differences that you sometimes see with Hispanic families and crafters here in the US.  Its always a very interesting night and there were some AMAZING stamping demonstrations!  And, then we got to stamp ourselves!

So, here is the project we made:

I loved the details like the paper pieced dress (we stamped the image a second time on Pool Party cardstock and then cut out the dress and glued it down onto the Whisper White image), the Silver glimmer paper behind the Apocathary Accents framelit piece, paper piercing the outline of the die cut shape using the matching Paper Piercing Pack, coloring with markers, and then the stamped and punched flowers on the bag!  Just a couple details, right? 🙂

When we got to our table for the event that evening, this is what everyone had (so you can see the whole stamp set too!).  It was the make and take kit, the stamp set, and a bingo sheet.

    IMG_0225

I have to admit I squealed out loud when I saw the stamp set because I had been eyeing this stamp set for a while because I loved the image of the girl and I thought that the Princess, the crown, and the flower stamps could be used by anyone – regardless of if they spoke Spanish or not.  I just didn’t know anyone who would need a Quinceanera card (for those of you who aren’t familiar with Quinceanera, it is like a cross between a sweet 16 party –only at 15, a coming out event, and at the scale like a wedding!  It’s a pretty big deal!).  Anyway, I was so thankful that Stampin’ Up! gave us this set.

And then, to top off the evening, I got a bingo and won some Glimmer Paper, a Christmas stamp set, and some Stitched Satin Ribbon!  How cool is that?!  And if you can see, check out more of the amazing samples they had on display next to me on the display board.

If you are going to convention next year, I totally recommend going to Hispanic Night.

  • You’re Amazing Ticket Banner Card from Convention

Alright, today is another share of the Stampin’ Up! convention make & takes.  I LOVED the variety and number of different projects we got to make and I thought that the projects we made with the You’re Amazing stamp set were especially unique.  And I’ll admit, this card is not at all hard to do, it does take a little bit of time to put together. 🙂

There are so many details to this card and after creating it, I think I might just hang it over my desk to remind myself that even when I’m feel low and my self-esteem has taken a hit, that I can have amazing moments too.  And I can remember how much I enjoyed creating this card.

Some tips if you are making a card like this:

    • When using the Essentials Paper Piercing pack to create a dotted outline for a die cut shape or stamped image, I recommend placing the piercing template on your card base first so you can line it up exactly where you want it to be; then do your piercing, and then add in your center piece.
    • If you want to make a string of little punched tickets (or any shape), I stamped my images first, pierced the hole for running the linen thread through, and then punched out the ticket shape.  You can punch them out and stack them up and pierce the hole, but I didn’t want to have to deal with trying to hold onto the little tiny pieces while piercing.
    • I actually tied the linen thread through the end of the die cut shape to help hold the banner up
    • Depending on your personality, you can opt to leave the ticket banner hanging loosely in the front of your card…. or you can be like me and use a glue dot behind each ticket to place it precisely where you want it to go! 🙂  The tickets may not necessarily hang evenly, but at least they will stay put.
    • The little hearts are actually a clever trick of punching out the 4-petal flower from the Itty Bitty Punch pack and then trimming off two of the petals to make a tiny heart.  This makes it even smaller than the single small heart punch.
      image

Like I said, there are a lot of details, but honestly, that is what made this card so fun for me.  If you check out my blog very often, you see that a lot of the projects I tend to make are the more quick and simple cards – cards that have one or two cool details but don’t take much time to put together.  So, when I get to sit down and focus on more details on the card every now and then it is actually pretty relaxing for me. 🙂  Am I the only person like this?

So, even if you don’t have time to do this whole project, hopefully you got some ideas for different elements to try in your projects in the future.  Though I’ll admit, I’m most addicted to my Essential Piercing Pack, what is your favorite piece to try?

Ok, now on to the pretty pictures, right?  🙂

This is one of the Affection Collection (found in the new Holiday Catalog) make and takes we did at Convention this year.  The thing I love about this card is that it is soooo easy and doesn’t take a ton of supplies – yet it looks really cool.

See, check out the image closer up:

All you are doing is layering different images from the stamp set to make a cool collage look on the front of your card.  Here is what all is included in the stamp set:

  • Daydream Medallions Convention Make & Takes

Every year at the Stampin’ Up! convention, they give us a ton of projects as Make & Takes.  Some, I think are really cute while others are soooo not my style.  But I have to say, this set of cards using the Daydream Medallions stamp set, from the first day of Make & Takes were some of my favorites!

We were making four 3×3 cards and using a coordinating wheel to decorate our envelopes.  I thought these cards were a great way to show how you can mix and match the different medallion stamps to make totally different looks between your cards.  That is one of those design ideals that I love playing around with but can take a while to really break out of the box and create new ideas (and speaking of boxes, don’t miss the box we decorated for the cards at the end of this post).

These first two cards, I shared with folks who attended my Convention Roundup event.  Everyone seemed to have a good time making these cards to take home.  I don’t know why, but I particularly love the bling in the pink stamped medallion ring in the “always” card!

And here is a close up of the other two cards we made at convention.  These are super cute designs but they really go together best if you are using your Stamp-a-ma-jig.

Finally, we decorated one of the kraft boxes to be storage for our cards.  Now, here is the ingenious thing…. the Daydream Medallions stamp set includes the solid circle rubber cut outs from the middle of the bigger circles.  So, even though they aren’t “official” stamps listed on the box for the stamp set…. they are still stamps!  So we used them and stamped with Versamark on the sides of the box to create this:

    Cute, right?

Alright, well I just spent this last weekend visiting Portland and participating in a 36 hour road rally/scavenger hunt that went non-stop throughout the weekend.  So, I’m a bit beat!  It was an amazing event with beautiful Oregon sceneries.  Maybe I should create some scrapbook layouts with those pictures!  But first, sleep!  Hope you had a wonderful weekend as well and a scrappy, crafty Monday!

  • Convention 2012 Display Boards!

One of the big reasons to go to convention is to see all the tons of amazing samples and displays.  They have huge boards that are organized by common colors (so you get a rainbow effect as you walk along the boards), by artisan award finalists, and boards full of samples using the stamp sets we are given at convention.  That is a lot of samples!!

So, to help you get started with some new ideas here are some of the display boards to give you lots and LOTS of ideas!

    IMAG0006IMAG0001 (4)IMAG0005 (2)IMAG0005IMAG0006IMAG0012IMG_0457IMG_1048IMG_0028IMG_0029IMG_0032IMG_0042IMG_0050IMG_0051IMG_0043IMG_0052IMG_0054IMG_0056

Whew!  So are you feeling inspired yet?  I told you there are so many amazing ideas there.  I decided this year that I’m going to pick a few of my favorites and use them in my classes and for blog posts of the coming year.  So, thank you to everyone who contributed to these boards for sharing the amazing ideas!

So, I’d love to hear… leave a comment here or on my facebook page with with cards from the boards are your favorites!

  • Everything Eleanor Christmas Swap Card

Alright, I’m finally getting caught up which is nice!  Up next, getting ready to have a bunch of great ladies over on Wednesday night to check out all of my samples, swaps, and goodies that I brought back from Convention and then make a few projects to take home!  It should be a fun night
(if you are interested in coming check out the details and rsvp here!)

Anyway, this year, I took with me a ton of swap cards… normally I end up with 30-50 cards but this year I took 100!

I didn’t mean to make so many but I discovered that I could almost exactly use the scrap from my Snow Much Fun swap to make this Everything Eleanor swap card, that I just kept making cards until I was out of scraps!  But that just means I have a whole bunch of great cards to use as inspiration now.

So, want to see what I was swapping?

I thought the flourish-y, journal stamp would make a fun wreath and my original idea had the bird stamped red for a cardinal… but I wanted the bird to stand out.  It took a little more work than I expected but I thought it was a fun use of the set.

And before I sign off for the night, I thought I’d share all the fun goodies I got while I was at convention.  This is just the stuff I got for free as part of my registration, giveaways, and prizes.  Not too bad, huh? 🙂

    Stampin Up Convention Free Items

That is a bag, red glimmer paper, 2 packs of designer fabric, 8 stamp sets, a journal made in My Digital Studio, 2 spools of satin ribbon, 1 pack of rhinestones, a pack of In Color Dahlias, a Holiday Mini catalog, a main catalog, and a hand fan!

See, you know you totally want to come to convention next yere, huh??

  • Stampin’ Up! Convention 2012–The Final Days

Jeepers!  Thanks to extremely flaky internet access at the hotel, I wasn’t able to get these blog posts written up and posted in the evenings of Convention.  But I wanted to post my summaries of the last two days at convention since I know a lot of you out there were interested in seeing what went on.  For those of you interested in the Display Boards – for the sake of space, I’ll be posting them tomorrow in a separate post.  But here is the final run down of a great convention:

    Inspiring Stamping Presentations:

There were so many great ideas this year.  I’m definitely going to use some in my classes over the next few months (scented embossing powder anyone?!) but here are a few highlights.

    New Momento Mall Items!!

I figure that you can never go to Momento Mall too often. Smile  There is always something cute to look at, a gift to buy, or your 2nd Day surprise!  (Stamping themed cookie press stamps, garden flags, and a My Digital Studio 2 sampler)IMAG0002 (4)

    Hispanic Night and Prizes!

Friday night they hold Hispanic Night, which is a great event to learn about the differences and desires of the Hispanic market.  Its actually super interesting to learn the cultural differences that I didn’t know about (like when someone would send out a card).  And we were given the Quinciera stamp set to use for our make and take!!!!  I LOVE this stamp set even though I don’t know anyone who is having a Quinciera anytime soon.  But so pretty!

    IMG_0225

And I won a prize during Bingo! Christmas stamp set, Raspberry Ripple stitched satin ribbon, and Real Red glimmer paper!

    Great Classes:

I went to lots of great classes.  This sample was from a class by Tami White and Ronda Wade.  They talked about what has helped them run successful businesses and it was great to hear different ideas and strategies from these great women.

And did I mention Free Stamps!!!

During lunch on the last day, we received our convention incentive stamp set (provided you attended you classes and got the “secret word”.  Then during closing session, we were given TWO more stamp sets!!  Not to bad, huh? Smile

    –  The grand vacation is a Western Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean

    –  The getaway vacation is to San Diego

    –  Stampin’ Up! will be donating $3 (instead of $1) from each sale of the stamp set “Moving Forward” to the Ronald McDonald stamp set

  • Stampin’ Up! Convention 2012–The First Day!

Does anyone here watch “So You Think You Can Dance”?  If so, do you know how Mary Murphy has the Hot Tamale train… well imagine her screaming “Woo Hoo!!!” and that is what we were saying this morning. Smile

It was a fun day filled with general session, make & takes, classes, and lots and lots of stamping buddies!  I think that was actually one of my favorite parts – reconnecting with friends I haven’t seen in a while, meeting new folks while waiting in line or in classes or swapping, and its been so fun to meet folks who visit my blog and stop me to say hi!

As with yesterday, I have more photos on my facebook page – http://facebook.com/nwstamper, but here are some of my highlights from today.

The day started with general session and I had my littlest stamper with me to enjoy the show!  Ok, so she enjoyed the first half of session and then napped the second… but that is ok, she didn’t need to learn about how to connect with Gen Y!

    IMAG0152

The keynote speaker was the hilarious Jason Dorsey who works for a company that researches generations and their characteristics and trends. It was fascinating to hear what research shows is the difference between generations, for example – Baby Boomers prefer communication via phone whereas Gen Y strongly prefers text and email to phone calls when being reached out to. And the interesting thing was sitting next to my mom and watching us both nod our heads along to what he was saying!

But before he took the stage… and look at this cool stage… was a welcome by Shelli Gardner

    IMAG0002

She talked about the convention theme and Stampin’ Up!’s commitment to supporting demonstrators who want to build their demo-ship “my way” and growing our talent and businesses in ways that are right for us.

And of course, she had to show a super cute project!  (I’ll post a better picture tomorrow if I can!  And I’m totally going to CASE parts of it so I can show you some cool details in later posts!)

    IMAG0001 (3)

I worked on Make & Takes – more on that tomorrow! And though I shopped at Momento Mall again over lunch, check out how fun the lunch area was set up.

    IMAG0002_COVER (2)

I had classes in the afternoon… and if you are curious about the types of things you can learn at convention, today I took the following classes:

    • “I am a Leader” with Brian Pilling – I always love classes with Brian because he has such an interesting take on the topics.  In this case it was more about what are the characteristics/extremes of a bad leader and where is a middle ground that you can be more effective and helpful.  I’m always trying to figure out how to be better for my team and so I loved the insight!
    • “I am Open for Business” with Carrie Cutney – Carrie is one of the frequent speakers at SU events and this was a good class for hearing some basic ideas for how to find new customers and stamping friends, tips for responding when people find you, and ways to expand your business.

And tomorrow, its more sessions, more make & takes, more classes, and I’m going to get more pictures of the displays!

So, before I sign off for now so I can catch a few more Zzzs before the day really begins, I thought I would share two more things that always impress me about Stampin’ Up! and convention:

    1.  Stampin’ Up’s support for demonstrators with families!  Even at a corporate event, they allow and even encourage demos with infants to come participate by providing “mother’s lounges” on either side of the general session floor.  These rooms are walled off sections of the main stage floor with carpeting (so you can put your baby down), gliders, changing station, and a TV so you can see what is happening up on the stage!

    IMAG0007

    2. The friendship and sharing of other demonstrators!  Stampin’ Up! offers incentives and benefits for building an supporting a team, but certain incentives only take into account your first 5 levels of downline.  However, I am connected to a wonderful woman named Julie Gunhus who I am 8 or so levels below, but she has always been super inclusive of myself and my team at events and takes time to answer questions and even includes me in the cute gifts she gives her downline at convention.  Like this adorable bag tag!  I mean, seriously, isn’t it cute!?

    IMAG0159

Oh, and before I sign off, I should make sure to share the Stampin’ Up! news that was announced today at convention.

    Day 1 Announcements:

    • Watch for fun Stampin’ Up! ads in magazines such as Parents, Better Homes & Gardens, and Family Fun coming next month.
    • My Digital Studio 2 has a release date!  August 1st with additional features coming out as free updates following that.  Awesome new features include designing 2 page spreads at one time, being able to use different color “ink” for different parts of a stamp image, being able to recolor DSP, embellishments, and stamps, and much more!
    • Great upcoming incentive trips and managers reception locations including a weekend getaway trip to San Diego and manager’s reception (if you have the title of Manager with SU) will be in January at Harry Potter’s Wizardly World in FL!  Extra incentive for me to promote to manager in the next few months!

Alright time for a little more rest!  I’ll share more with you soon!

  • Snow Much Fun Convention Swaps & Checkin Day!

Woo hoo!  Convention is here and it was a busy day in Salt Lake City for me yesterday.  I spent the first night in town (Tuesday night) finishing up my swaps and getting settled in after arriving late in the evening.  I wanted to use Dazzling Details (Stampin’ Up!’s glitter glue) on my cards so I glittered them up and had them all out to dry around the room. Smile

    swaps out 1swaps out 2

The end result, I think, turned out pretty nice.  Unfortunately I had a heck of a time taking a picture in the light of the hotel room that shows the glitter, but I think you can tell here:

Snow Much Fun Swap 2012Snow Much Fun Swap 2012 close up

This was one of my two swaps and today I can’t wait to swap like crazy.  I’ve already seen some super cute cards and I know there will be tons more today!

But yesterday was filled with picking up our bags:

    IMAG0120

and visiting Momento Mall!  (If you want to see more Momento Mall photos, check out my facebook page where I posted a bunch of pictures from yesterday)IMAG0003

Then we got an early peak at display boards and product showcases including checking out the new trimmer!  Did you know that the new trimmer has a lock so that the plastic blade guide (where you slide the cutter up and down) so that it doesn’t flop open when you are putting it in your bag for crops?  And the numbers are under the laminate on the platform so they won’t rub off??  Oh, I hope they announce that it is releasing soon!

    IMAG0002_COVER IMAG0136

Well, General Session starts at 8:30 and then it is off to make & takes and classes!  I’ll be posting some to my facebook page throughout the day and then I’ll try to post more pictures tonight of more convention goodies.

  • Convention 2012 Here I Come!

Alright, I’m going to warn you right now that today’s post is going to be a total photo bomb!  Some folks have asked where I get my ideas or have said I am so excited about what I do – so I wanted to share with you where some of that comes from and how you can get in on it too!

    The annual Stampin’ Up! convention!

I was so excited when registration for the Stampin’ Up! convention 2012 opened up earlier this week that I registered in the first 15 minutes!  This will be my 4th convention in a row and my 2nd where I’ll have a baby with me.  I get so many ideas, learn so much, and have a ton of fun that I can’t imagine not going each year.

If you can see yourself getting excited about a sneak peek announcement with 3,000 of your stamping friends…

If you LOVE seeing the most A-MAZING project ideas with things you probably have in your home already…
