  • Bling Up your Card with Glitter Ribbon–A Birthday & Thank You card (BLOG HOP)

I’m so excited to be able to join a fun blog hop today for the first time!  Welcome to the Grand Vacation Achievers Blog Hop for December. This is a monthly blog hop with many fabulous and talented Stampin’ Up demonstrators who work and play hard with their business. Smile  This month our theme is Bring on the Bling. You know I love me some sparkle and shine but I thought I’d be a bit different from my regular rhinestones (or even glimmer paper) and share some ideas using the fabulous – but retiring – Gold Glitter Ribbon!

Holiday Catalog Ribbon – Perfect for Any Occasion!

I wanted to share a couple ideas that used some of the Holiday Catalog items that are retiring in a few days that can give some bling and shine any time of year.  Like this Birthday Card featuring the Winter Wonderland Specialty designer paper & the Gold Glitter Ribbon.

    Tips for making this card:

    • Look for “anytime” patterns in your “Holiday” designer paper packs!  I had the Winter Wonderland designer paper in my stash and because it was in the Holiday Catalog in a Christmas section, all I could see in it at first were the snowflakes, acorns, and trees.  But when I started really trying to figure out how I could use the paper, I realized there were lots of neutral patterns that were good anytime.  Like this crackled glass pattern.  Plus, an extra bonus was that it had little shiny gold dots speckled throughout the paper so you got some subtle bling going on.  Who said gold is only for the holidays?
PS – this paper pack is retiring on Jan 4th but yay! it is on sale as part of the Year-end Sale!
    • Layer your ribbon for cool new looks – The next thing was that I liked the idea of the Jute ribbon… but it was too wide and plain as it was.  So why not spiff it up and layer your favorite ribbon over it.  Adds a whole new dimension don’t you think?  I thought it helped balance the bright and sparkly gold in the Gold Glitter ribbon.  You can use SNAIL tape runner to adhere the ribbon together, but I might suggest a stronger adhesive like the Tear Tape to make sure that your gold ribbon really gets a good grip on the slightly fuzzy Jute Ribbon below.
    • Perfectly cut out banners from the Amazing Birthday stamp set with the bundled Banner Framelits – Did you know that the Banner framelits are a perfect match for the Amazing Birthday stamp set I used?  The stamp images fit great inside the different banner shapes for easy cutting.  Plus, you can get them together in a bundle and even save 15% off both.  How sweet is that?

    image

So now moving on from Birthdays, another type of card that I need all the time is a Thank You card.  I was trying to use up some scraps on my desk and stumbled onto this design.  I loved the touch of gold at the bottom of the card.

    Tips for making this card:

    • Get fun effects by mixing your embossing folders and ink!  These cool polka dots are easy to do!  Just grab the Large Polka Dot embossing folder and the use a sponge dauber to sponge ink directly INSIDE the indented side of the embossing folder.  THEN put your paper in the folder and run it through your Big Shot.  As the paper is smashed into the impressions in the folder, they will also be pressed uniformly into the ink creating cool distressed looking dots of color on your paper!
    • Layered punches really help them stand out – I had fun with my cutting and punches here.  Start by stamping the leaves from the Kinda Eclectic stamp set and then cut those out (yes, it has to be by hand… sorry Smile) and then grab your punches!  I used my Petite Petals punch to punch out the Blackberry Bliss flower.  Then stamped onto white cardstock, the little flower from the Something to Say stamp set and punched it out using the Itty Bitty Accent punch pack.  They all layer together for a fun, unexpected flower!
    • Mix your metallics – Finally, just because I had used gold by adding the touch of the Gold Glitter ribobn at the bottom of the card… don’t you think it just grounds the card nicely?  I decided to add a hint of gold into the rest of the card by adding two gold sequins from the Gold Sequin trim next to my flower.  Just enough to balance the gold ribbon, but not too much that we are worried about getting gaudy or feeling like King Midas was having a field day with the card!  I stuck with gold but you can also get some fun looks by mixing gold and other metallic colors too.  So have fun and play around.

So I hope you’ve enjoyed these two ideas for adding some bling to your projects that you can not only use anytime of year… but you can also use the Gold Glitter Ribbon to add some bling to GUY cards too!  I’d love to hear what you think!

But keep the great ideas going by checking out the other ideas and inspiration you don’t want to miss. Remember that currently you are at my blog – JENNIFER BLOMQUIST, so check the blog hop line up list to see who is next in the list. Smile

  • Grateful for You Thank You Card with Touches of Burlap

This week has really been a real life lesson for me on gratitude.  I have been blessed by some amazing people who came out of the woodwork and helped me survive this week as I was starting to get super stressed out midway through!  I am one of those people who have a hard time asking for help and I was shown how amazing friends and community can be. Smile  So today’s card share is my virtual way of sharing my gratitude for them!

See, Thursday morning, I was helping decorate a table for a Ladies Christmas Dinner with my MOPS group and I was starting to freakout just a little.  Hubby was out of town, so I was single parenting and still needed to get ready for card class the next night, plus clean and finish planning my daughter’s birthday party on Sunday.  And lets just say my house was a disaster and I didn’t really know what I was doing for the party.  Oh, and I knew I would be out late that night because I would be at the Christmas dinner.  So I was just seeing a lot to do and not enough plan to know how I was going to do it!

But by the end of the night, I had one friend, Trisha, who was helping with the Christmas dinner offer to come over the next day to help me finish cutting for card class… then that afternoon, my friend Chrissy had me over to help me get my mind straight about the party and put together a plan – but even more, she sat there with her Cricuit and cut out a BUNCH of decorations for the party while we were talking!  So I went home not only with a plan but with many of the decorations done!  Then in the evening I was overwhelmed when another friend, Lisa, sent me a picture of a fondant Hello Kitty she had made me for on top of the birthday cake (Caitlin had asked for a “Hello Kitty” cake and while I can make anything with paper… designing with frosting is not quite my forte Smile)  And my evening timed out that I could clean my kitchen and by the time I went to bed, I was starting to feel like I could do this after all!  So to all of you – THANK YOU!

    Tips for making this card:

    • Frame it up with simple layers – I always love how clean everything looks when you use simple layering to mat your card elements.  I find that a 1/8” mat is the perfect size most of the time, and really easy to cut on your trimmer.  Just cut your matting cardstock 1/4” larger in both directions than your smaller piece.  So for example, in this card:
        –  Card base as a mat: 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”
        –  Crumb cake piece: 4” x 5 1/4”
        –  Soft Suede square mat: 3 1/2” x 3 1/2”
    •   –  Very Vanilla piece for stamping: 3 1/4” x 3 1/4”
    • Use those busy patterned papers for accents – I used one of the patterns from the Into the Woods designer paper for a pop of color and an accent.  The pattern is one I like but busier than I would normally use for a big piece, so use it for a smaller layer and tuck it under one of the elements for just the right accent piece.
    • Get creative with your Burlap Ribbon – I love my burlap ribbon… like use it all the time!  But I wanted to soften it up a bit when I was making this card, so we changed it up a bit.  First, trim off the stitching from one side of the ribbon.  Then pull out 3 threads from the top of the burlap ribbon before gluing it down to your card front.  (I recommend tape runner applied to the cardstock on the card for taping down the ribbon).  Then use the threads for other accents on your card!  I used two like twine across my Very Vanilla piece and then threaded the third through a Gold Button and tied a bow.
    • Make a Shadow for your images – No lining up required!  One fun way to play with your stamp images is to use two different colors to create a “shadow” image.  The nice thing is, since you want them to be slightly offset, you don’t have to worry about lining things up.  So, you can get a little messy and it looks great everytime!  In this case, I stamped the background rectangle from the For All Things stamp set in Crumb Cake in, and then stamped the leaves in Soft Suede ink over the top as my main image.  Then stamp the shadow in Cajun Craze ink by stamping close to my original spot but not exactly the same position.

I’m happy to say, thanks to the help earlier this week and then my mother-in-law coming over to help clean as I was baking for the party yesterday, I think we are all ready for our Princess Party!  Princess Caitlin is all ready to go!

    2015-12-06 08.06.24

So hugs to all of you and thank you to everyone who takes the time to share their talents and time to help make every day just a little bit more survivable and a little more magical!

  • Happy Scenes & the Leaflets Framelits make Fun Thank You Cards!

I know we are getting into Christmas time and lots of wintery projects, but I still have a few fall themed projects that I loved and so I wanted to share with you – including this thank you card I made for recent customer thank you cards.

I had seen the idea for using a cut out hole with the Leaflet framelits and thought it would be cute trying stamping on the leaves themselves!  So I tried that and it ended up being a fun project.

    Tips for making this card:

    • Stamp your scene first! With photopolymer stamps, you can often see what you are doing when it comes to stamping in a very specific spot on your paper (which is why I love them so, so much!) but in this case, I found it easier to stamp my scene first from the Happy Scenes stamp set and then position my framelit so that everything lined up the way I wanted it to and cut out.
    • Layer your die cuts – Make a cool shadow or accent effect by cutting out the same shape as your stamped focal point only in solid color cardstock and slightly offset behind the stamped image.  In this case, I stamped on Whisper White and then cut out a second leaf in Cajun Craze cardstock.
    • Have fun with your Aqua Painter  – After you cut out your shape, have fun letting your inner artist (or kindergartener as the case may be!) and play with coloring things in!  Use your aqua painter (a special brush-tip pen that the barrel is filled with water that you can use to paint on your ink) by picking up ink from the LID of your ink pad (squeeze the closed ink pad if you need to get more ink on the lid) and paint it onto your scene.  It doesn’t have to be perfect, so just have fun layering your colors and making your own personal sunset image.  Everyone will be different!
    • Wide ribbons don’t always have to be wide! – I wanted some ribbon and loved the texture of burlap, but didn’t need the weight it added of having the full width of the burlap ribbon.  So, don’t be afraid to pull out your scissors and cut the ribbon in half!
    • Mix and Match your stamped image for all seasons – I made this card with the fall theme, but use the snow scene or spring scene from the Happy Scenes stamp set and make it a whole new card!
    • Check the Holiday Retiring List before your favorite sells out – The Happy Scenes stamp set and Happy Haunting paper are both on the Holiday Catalog Retiring list and so are only available while supplies last.  There are more awesome items that are saying goodbye this month, and two items that have already sold out!  So make sure to check your list before December is over.

    *******************************************

A lot of times when I’m working on creating a card for classes or just for my own fun, I start out by getting the mojo going by searching on Google Images or hoping around Pinterest or some of my friends blogs.  Usually, I see a few cards that inspire me in different ways and I combine my favorite elements into a card that is something new.  Like, maybe I love how the first card uses an embossing folder in the background, and I love the color scheme from a second card, and in a third card, I love how a set of punches are layered together.  I’ll mix and match all of those elements into one card that makes me happy.

But then sometimes, I find a card that I love so much that I have to recreate it exactly how I see it.  And today’s card share is one of those cases… or should I say CASEs. Smile  (see what I did there?  some crafting humor Smile)  I was inspired by the very talented Ilina Crouse and her original card here, to create this card to give out as thank you cards… now if only I can figure out what I did with my completed cards I would be very happy!

I think my favorite part of the card is the hint of glitter along the edge of the white sentiment layer!  Here is what I did:

    • Adhere a strip of the Into the Woods designer paper along the left edge of the card base
    • Adhere a 1/4” strip of Gold Glimmer paper to the back of a 3 3/4”x5 1/2” piece of Whisper White cardstock so that only about 1/8” of the gold is showing.
    • Mount the white and gold paper to the front of the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals
    • Decorate the front of the white cardstock.

This gives just a touch of gold and adds some fun dimension that is subtle.  One tip though, I did this on a card that had the crease at the top (so a 4 1/4” x 11” piece of base paper folded in half) but when I gave people this card, because of the dimension on the front, they wanted to open the card from the side.  So I recommend using a standard card base with the crease on the left (so a 5 1/2” x 8 1/2” piece of paper folded in half)

For the front, I grabbed the super fun Acorny Thank You stamp set.  Here are a few tips for the front of my card:

    • Tangelo Twist and Early Espresso make a great fall color combination!  That is what I used on my acorn.
    • You can cut out your Thankful banner really easily using the Bitty Banners framelits!
    • Cover the back of your acorn with SNAIL or other tape runner, and then create loops from the Gold Metallic Thread and press them into the back of your acorn so that the tape covering the back holds them in place.
    • Add a few gold sequins from the Gold Sequin Trim for some extra glitz using glue dots

I just totally love this card and may have to make it in other colors and designs.  Don’t you love it?

    ******************************

Sometimes I want to craft but I don’t want to have to think…I want to just be able to create and know it will come together and look cute.  Last night was one of those nights. I’ve spent all weekend with out of town family, and don’t get me wrong, it’s been lots of fun… but it also means in addition to all the adults we have 5 children running around and attempting to play together from the ages of 18 months to 7 years.  So it gets a little crazy to say the least.  I got home and just wanted to relax and I realized I hadn’t finished my July Paper Pumpkin yet, so I decided to play!

This was the original design that was shown on the package… so you could make 8 cards that all looked like this:

But then I decided to start mixing things up a bit and changing up the layout just a little

Then I though, how would it look if I turned that patterned paper on it’s side and ran it across the card front.  Kinda cute, huh?

Now, one thing I ran into when I turned my paper on it’s side is that I didn’t have an orange paper or sticker that was long enough to go all the way across the card front.  So, I did a little hack!  Take one of the orange strips and cut it in half!  Line up each half to the outside edges of the card base.  There will be a little bit of a gap in the middle, so just cover it up with the notepad looking paper!  Easy way to hide the gap!

I also started experimenting with that happens when you take off the perforated tabs on the notepad paper.  I liked it off, but then thought it made an interesting texture when you glue it back down OVER the white cardstock.  just a little bit of subtle texture and something fun to look at.

Then I started to get a little crazier and start moving things to the edges and turning them on their sides…

Or even just turn the whole card on it’s side!

Those diagonal stripe strips in the corners are actually one of the grey and white diagonal stripe stickers that I cut in half longways.  Then I laid them across the corners diagonally to make it look a little like washi tape and trimmed the edge!

Then I had to do one more… this time a fancy fold card!

The basic layout on the front is pretty simple and the same as one of the first cards but this time, I folded back the front flap of the card base to make a Z Fold card!  See what I mean?

I would have gotten a little more crazy with it but I was just too dang tired.  And I thought this looked cute as is.

Finally, I put together the envelopes and don’t ask me why, but this was the hardest part for me!  It took me 3 tries to get the envelopes put together the “right” way!  Though I still think I like the side opening version. Smile

    Fun right?

  • Make Your Own Background Paper Using the Endless Thanks Stamp Set

After an amazing week last week at convention, then coming home and being a single mommy for the week while my hubby is off on a business trip, it’s been busy to say the least.  I have had grand plans to get lots and lots done in the evenings after the kids went to bed but turns out I’m still recovering from the lack of sleep at convention (turns out your mid-30s body doesn’t bounce back as fast as your mid-20’s body… who knew?! Smile) and so I’m still catching up.  But one thing that I learned at convention and really took home with me is balance – figuring out how to make sure you make time for the important people and things in your life (like family and sleep) and then doing the rest (like photographing my cards from swap).  They make the good point, if I’m rested and my family isn’t crabby they haven’t seen me in a while, everyone is going to be happier!

That said, I finally started photographing my pile of swaps from Convention… you see, I have a lot:

    2015-07-30 14.27.06

After over an hour of photographing cards, I almost have them all done!  I’ll be sharing some of my favorites here on the blog over the next week.  If you come to my classes and events, I’ll have many of them with me.  And if you are a member of my Fun n’ Crafty Stampers demonstrator group, I’ll upload all of the pictures this weekend!

But while I finish working on that, I thought I’d share a card I made with the cute Endless Thanks stamp set:

I was playing with this stamp set and trying to come up with something that only uses the new In Colors when I ended up with this design.  It shows a fun way you can use your stamps to make your own background paper.

    Tips for making this card:

    • Use the larger flower from the Endless Thanks stamp set to stamp randomly around the front of your card – I used Watermelon Wonder because I was using the new 2015-2017 In Colors, but use whichever color you love.
    • Make sure you go off the edge of your card front with some flowers, if you try to keep them all inside the edges it ends with a strange border around your card.
    • Use the little leaf stamp from the set and stamp 2 overlapping leaves on the side of each flower.  They don’t have to be on the same side, just keep them together.
    • Fill in the white spaces with the smaller flower from the set in a complementary color – like the Delightful Dijon I used here.
    • Break up the busy-ness of the card by creating a layer over the center.  I matted in Watermelon Wonder to tie in to the flowers, and then kept it simple with a few flowers and the sentiment in the center.
    • I still only used Watermelon Wonder for my ink for the flowers in the middle of the card, just stamp one in the middle and then WITHOUT reinking your stamp, stamp to the left and to the right of the first flower to get the lighter shades.
    • Wrap a piece of the new dotted lace trim around your matted cardstock and then use one more piece of the lace trim to tie a bow in the middle of your piece of lace.  Isn’t it so fun and fluffy??

You can try this idea of creating you own background with any stamps you own, so grab a stamp and give it a whirl!

And if you love any of the products I used in my card, you can find them in my online store by clicking any of the pictures below!  And look, you don’t need many supplies to make this fun card!

  • Endless Thanks Spring Thank You Card and More! 6 Card Ideas to get you Started with the Starter Kit!

Ever have one of those days where the mojo just couldn’t seem to get in gear?  That was me yesterday, I think it took me 4 cards before I started coming up with something I liked!  But this all stemmed from a fun challenge I came up with yesterday…

Pick out a Stampin’ Up starter kit and create class samples that a new demonstrator could use for their first event using just what they got in their starter kit!

I often get people asking me,”What should I get in my starter kit?” and I have a general list of what to get and where to get started, but I thought I’d try to put together one that uses the kit to it’s full potential.  Especially, when you have promotions like the Two FREE Stamp Sets with Starter Kits ordered by 6/30  (that’s TOMORROW!)  But this is what I came up with:

June 2015 Starter Kit value suggestion

    >> Order your Starter Kit here <<

See?? I told you it was an amazing deal… especially because it comes with no obligation and just lots and lots of opportunity!  So, on to the opportunity part, I told you I was having some Mojo struggles yesterday, but thankfully about 4 cards in I started putting together this card and I just LOVED IT!!  What do you think?

    Tips for making this card:

    • Grab the Endless Thanks stamp set and your favorite ink colors and you can use the curved vine to make your own custom wreath!

      image
    • Stamp the larger flower with Watermelon Wonder onto a scrap of Watermelon Wonder cardstock and then cut out by hand for a wreath focal point.  (Its only one little flower so it isn’t that bad for all you folks who don’t like fussy cutting! Winking smile)
    • Spice it up by adding one of the In Color Blossom Accents.  You’ll want to use a Glue Dot to adhere your Accent to the cut flower.

    • The sentiments come mix & match style in the stamp set, so have fun and mix & match your ink colors!  Here I have Memento Black and Delightful Dijon.
    • Use different colors for your wreaths to fit different times of year!  Add more leaves in orange, red, and yellow for the fall…navy, soft sky, and sahara sand for winter, etc.  This summery combo is just the 2015 – 2017 In Colors – Mint Macaron for the vine, then Cucumber Crush, Watermelon Wonder, and Delightful Dijon.

    • If you cut your cardbase to be 5.5” x 8.25” and fold in half, you can easily wrap some of the Cucumber Crush dotted lace trim around the front of the card and tie into a pretty knot to the left of your wreath.

This would make an easy card for a class or workshop.  If you want to make it slightly more economical for a large group, instead of using the Blossom Accent, cut out the large flower and then add a rhinestone in the middle.  Voila!  A pretty flower for your wreath!

Now, I told you, I was trying to come up a few cards you could make with this starter kit.  I mean, really, what is the point of getting a starter kit of lots of fun stuff if there is only one thing you can do with it? Smile  So, while I will not claim these are all my best samples ever, they are all ones you would be great for some classes or workshops.  Plus, with your starter kit, you would have supplies to make LOTS of all of these cards – So invite lots of people to join you for your kick off event! You could even do 2 or 3 at your first event and then do 2-3 more at your next event…how is that for planning?!

If you decide to join my Fun n’ Crafty Stampers group, I’d be happy to send you close up pictures of all of these cards and cutting dimensions for all of the paper pieces.  Smile   I also give everyone in our group copies of my class by mail project tutorials each month.  So you’ll continue to get more class and project ideas throughout the year too!  We can’t wait to welcome you to our group!  Get started by ordering your Starter Kit here

Coming to my Playing with Color – Meet the In Colors Class or getting it as a kit by mail?  I’ll be including the supplies for this as a bonus card for you!  I just loved it so much and you’ll have all the ink, so I figured why not add it in to the class!  RSVP here or order your kit by mail!

  • Simple Spotlight Card with Sheltering Tree

Sometimes I see a card online that I LOVE and totally inspire me.  Today was inspired by a card I saw by Michelle Long and I had to play around with the idea!  Because you know me and my deep love of clean and simple cards!

It is a fun take on the spotlight technique with the details of the tree framed in the middle of the card.

    Tips for making this card:

    • The Sheltering Tree stamp set lets you take this one design and make it perfect for any season!  Use Blushing Bride tree leaves to make a pretty cherry blossom tree, or grab your Crushed Curry or Delightful Dijon to make it a pretty autumn image!
    • Stamp you tree leaves on the upper right corner of your card base…I found I needed to stamp it 2x to get wide enough coverage of the leaves.  You can check it is enough coverage by periodically placing your center mat cardstock down to see how many leaves are showing.Dimensions for this card:
      – Card base = 4 1/4” x 11”
      – Brown mat = 2 5/8” x 2 5/8”
      – White center cardstock = 2 1/2” x 2 1/2”
    • When you keep the rest of the card muted with light Subtles colors, give it is a POP with a bright colored flower, like the one from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.  Add a rhinestone in the center and it is just cute, cute, cute!

  • Gorgeous Farewell to Four Feathers with a Maritime Thank You Card by Pamela Wu

Remember the other day when I said I really liked the Maritime designer paper?  Here is another example of why you should too. Smile

    Card created by Pamela Wu

    Featured Retiring Products:

Get them before they are gone by the end of the month!

I love all the details and added touches she did with the card!  It’s the little things that make all the difference!

    Tips for making this card:

    • The Four Feathers stamp set is a carryover set that does not appear in the new catalog, so it looks like June 2nd will be your last chance to get it.  Save 15%  by getting the matching framelits and stamps in a bundle!  Its only $20 for clearmount rubber stamps and dies!
    • Add some pizzazz to your feathers by using the Rock n’ Roll technique.  Ink up your stamp with Pool Party ink and then gently roll the stamp in a circle on a Night of Navy ink pad to just get the edges of your image inked up in the darker color.
      Doesn’t it look awesome here:
    • With the A Happy Hooray stamp set, you get another feather design (though it doesn’t quite match the framelits) along with some sentiments that match your punches.  In this case, the thanks matches the 1-3/8” circle punch!  Layer it with the 1-3/4” circle punch for a great look.
    • I LOVE how she added the mini brads to the lines in the thanks.  Honestly, I think that is my favorite touch. Smile

  • I Love Lace Meets Painted Petails for a Sweet Thank You Card

I had to share the Thank You cards I created for folks who ordered with me this month.  When I saw that I Love Lace the background stamp was on the retiring list, I was so sad and I had to have one last hurrah with it… and I just love how it turned out!  I think this will be another stamp that I will be hanging on to for a while to come. 🙂

NOTE – Retiring Stamps are now WHILE SUPPLIES LAST and some have sold out, so be sure not to delay!  Check out what is still available here.

    Featured Retiring Products:

Get them before they are gone by the end of the month!

I love how this background stamp makes it look like real lace overlaid on your card!  I stamped with Blackberry Bliss ink on top of Whisper White paper to get this look.  And if you miss a spot when stamping (like the bottom edge above missed a little) it just looks like the lace pulled up in one spot which is cool too!

I also had to get in one last hurrah with my Painted Petals stamp set.  The flowers are a two step, so you can stamp the leaves down first in green and then ink up your flower heads in more Blackberry Bliss and stamp knowing they will be perfectly aligned!

And yes, that pretty sentiment is from the Painted Petals set too.  Such a fun Thank You card!  Maybe I’ll have to make a few sets in different colors to give as gifts.

    Did you hear?  FREE Stamps!

There is a new promotion coming up on June 2nd where you can join my family of Fun n’ Crafty Stampers by purchasing a starter kit of $125 in your choice of your favorite products for only $99 PLUS you will get to pick 2 FREE stamp sets of ANY VALUE to add to your starter kit!!

Interested?  Let me know and we can get you all ready for when it goes live on the 2nd. 🙂

  • Water Drop Bokeh Technique Card with Everything Eleanor (VIDEO TUTORIAL)

Did you see? Did you see??  Today is another video this week! Smile  I’m planning on getting back into videos and tutorials again and aim to have a new video project for you each Wednesday.  Sweet, right?!

Today I wanted to share with you this cool technique I’m calling Water Drop Bokeh!  Check it out:

See that colored blobby area?  It is just masked and sponged area of the Whisper White cardbase!  So it is easy and perfectly customizable to any project you want!

    Tips for making this card:

    • Use your Grid Paper to help make sure you are masking off straight and even lines across your white card base (in this case they are at 1” from the top and 2 1/4” from the top)
    • Sponge Daubers will give you rich color which helps make the technique turn out better because concentration of ink on your paper is key!
    • Swirl on your favorite colors of dye-based ink (all Stampin’ Up Classic Ink pads are dye based) on Whisper White cardstock
    • Use an Aqua Painter to drop bits of water onto your sponged area – from just the tip of the Aqua Painter for small circles to squeezing out full drops for bigger circles
    • Let it start to air dry and then you can stamp over the top almost immediately to create cool, layered effects.
    • Mix and match your stamp sets, like in this case Everything Eleanor for the bird and swirl, and A Dozen Thoughts for the sentiments
    • Each card you make will be different, but that is what makes it fun!

Want to see how it is done?  Check out this Video Tutorial as I walk you through making the full card step by step.  Then, let me know what you think and if you like this style of video so I know what to do more of. Smile
