  • Scrapbooking Sunday: Sparkly Christmas Layout

It all started with cleaning my craft table… I came across a 1/4” x 12” piece of designer series paper.  Being the paper hoarder I am, I thought, this is a great piece for a scrapbook page but I was afraid it would get crumpled if I stored it as a scrap.  So what did I do?  Why stopped everything and made a scrapbook layout of course! 🙂

    Sparkly Candlelight Christmas Scrapbook layout

See that thin striped designer paper at the bottom edge of the green?  That was what got this whole page started!  It was from the Candlelight Christmas specialty designer series paper pack, so I started there.  Some of the colors in that paper pack are Real Red, Early Espresso, and Lucky Limeade.  So, I went with a Real Red 12×12 base and added a 2 3/4″ strip of the Flocked flourish transparency to the left side of the page for some subtle color and texture.  Then I started building up the center panel.

I picked Lucky Limeade as my accent color and then added three panels from the Candlelight Christmas pack.  The dsp pieces are 6″ x 3 3/4″ and I figured I would use smaller 3×5 sized pictures or trimmed 4×6 pictures so that the pattern shows around the photo as matting.  I rounded the corners of the paper before glueing them down.

Then it was time to add some sparkle! I started with a strip of Champagne Glimmer paper along the top and my 1/4″ scrap of designer series paper along the bottom.  But then I thought it needed more, so I grabbed my Tags til Christmas stamp set.  First was the little oval accent that I stamped in Lucky Limeade and punched out with the small oval punch.  Then I added some Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details for the berries.  I popped them up on dimensionals so my photos could slide underneath if needed.

Then I added one more tag – the decorative label punch Dec 25th tag from the Tags til Christmas set.  I stamped it with Early Espresso and punched it out.  Then I grabbed that same Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details and outlined the oval portion.  Finally, I decided to add a tassel and took some Early Espresso baker’s twine and twisted it into a loop above the tag and then unraveled/frayed the ends to make my tassel.

Now to just get some good Christmas pictures to put in this layout!  But I’m sure I’ll have more pictures than I know what to do with. 🙂

And if you love this designer paper, just a reminder that there is only 1 month left of the Holiday catalog, and once we are into January, this paper will be gone as well.

  • Quick Holiday Gift Idea w/ the Candy Wrapper Die

When I first saw the candy wrapper die, all the projects I saw with it were halloween projects and ever since then I seemed to be stuck thinking about it as a halloween thing or even birthday treats…

See this is what you see when you look at it in the catalog or online:

    image           image

But then I saw this super cute idea and thought it was awesome to see other seasons with the die – in this case Christmas.

The nice thing about the die is that that it is super fast to put together because the die does all the cutting and scoring for you.  You just have to fold the sides together, slide in your treat, twists the ends, and EMBELLISH!

In this case, this sample was made with:

    • Designer Series Paper (a retired Christmas pattern from a couple years ago)
    • Cherry Cobbler seam binding
    • Tags Til Christmas stamp set
    • Scallop Square punch
    • Dazzling Details glitter glue

Plus, check out some of these fun touches!

I love how the outline of the scallop square is colored with a Cherry Cobbler marker.  I always use Sponge Daubers to edge my shapes, but I love how precise you can get with the marker on a bumpy image like the scallop punch.

Plus, the added bling you get with the Dazzling Details glitter glue on the dots is so small but it adds A LOT when you see it in person.

So, there you have it!  A quick idea for some little gifts for co-workers, friends, or stocking stuffers. 🙂

  • A Clean and Simple Holiday Card

When I was at the Stampin’ Up! regionals in Portland, I saw a demonstration that showed how cute a scalloped edge could be on a card.  I got inspired by the example and started playing with a card layout that has evolved into this design which I really like.

I have made this design in the past using Whisper White cardstock as the base with Cherry Cobbler accents but I had some scraps lying around and so went ahead and tried it with Soft Suede.  It looks really nice in person (better than I think it shows in the picture).  The other thing I vary with this card – in this example I used a strip of Soft Suede cardstock for the string the ornament is hanging on, but when I used a white base, I really like using Early Espresso narrow taffeta ribbon.

    Thanks for looking!

  • More Holiday Stamp-a-Stack Cards

As promised, I have the last two cards we created at our Holiday Stamp-a-Stack  (you can see the details on the first two in my post from yesterday).

    Seasons Greetings

Like I said yesterday, these cards were meant to be fairly easy to make though I guess the hand cutting on this card is a bit more time intensive than the other cards we did.  I really liked how the holly looked cut out and hanging over the matting, but I’ll share a couple variations folks made that may be a bit faster to do for those of you less inclined to cut intricate images. 🙂

This card uses the Peaceful Seasons hostess set from the Holiday Mini.  It’s a very simple and straightforward layout and so you could really use it for any stamps or holiday.  In this case, we popped the Garden Green and Very Vanilla cardstock up on Stampin’ Dimensionals in the center of the Cherry Cobbler cardbase, over some Very Vanilla 5/8” grosgrain ribbon.  We also used markers to color in the holly image using Garden Green, Chocolate Chip, and Cherry Cobbler on Very Vanilla cardstock. Then we cut out the holly and adhered it straight down onto the corner of the matted image.  In my sample, I only put Snail adhesive in the middle of the holly so that the edges could curl up and add some dimension without needing an actual dimensional.

During one of the sessions, a couple folks decided to get a bit creative to avoid cutting out the holly.  So these are some options they came up with:

Yes, the globe ornament is cut out, but I think it is easier to cut than the holly.  Well, and the fact that she was really into doves and “Peace on Earth”

    Jolly Holiday Seasons Greetings

I swear, I always end up with way more ideas that I want to do for my classes and workshops than is practical.  So, I decided that I really wanted to let everyone play with the new Tags til Christmas set and the matching Ornament punch.  This stamp set is aimed directly at me because I love punches probably too much and oh my goodness when I see stamp sets that every stamp in the set matches a punch.

Plus, the stamp and punch are one of the Handmade Holiday bundles for 20% off!  I know, I’m a sucker for sales. 🙂  Anyway, back to the card:

This card is so fast and is still super cute in person.  Plus add some of the adhesive rhinestones to the ornament or a little glitter for even more kick!  However, for this quick version, we stamped the ornament image from Tags til Christmas in Cherry Cobbler and punched it out using the Ornament punch.  We adhered three patterns of the Jolly Holiday DSP to the bottom of the Old Olive cardbase and then added a piece of Soft Suede Cardstock that was punched with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch.  Finally we stamped the sentiment from the Curly Cute stamp set in Cherry Cobbler and then adhered the ornament image using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
