  • Bright and Cheery Thinking of You Card with Kind Koala

Eek the countdown is racing towards when I head out on the trip at the end of the week!  But I have so many projects to share with you that I’m working furiously to get them written up into blog posts so you will continue to have lots of fun ideas and inspiration (and sneak peeks!) while I’m away.

I do want to give you the heads up that it is looking like I’ll have infrequent to no internet access while I’m away, so if you need something from me or have questions, please try to get them to me in the next day or two.  Otherwise, I’ll catch up with you when I’m back in town.  I’ll post updates when I can over on my Facebook page, so if you are interested in the fun of a Stampin’ Up Grand Vacation, follow me over there and see what is happening. Smile

Fond Farewell to Kind Koala… and candy dots… and piercing templates…

This was another card I put together to get in a big hurrah with more of my retiring favorites.  How can you not smile when that cutie patootie Koala is giving you a flower?

When you mix the bright colors in the Have a Cuppa designer paper with Bermuda Bay cardstock and ribbon, you get such a fun cheery card that would brighten anyone’s day.  Plus it is so easy to put together that you can whip together a bunch for anytime you need to send a smile in the mail.  It does contain a number of items that will be discontinued at the end of the month though, including the stamp set!  So, if you love any of the following make sure to grab them now before they sell out.

    Retiring Products on this Card

I started by picking out a couple of my favorite patterns from the paper stack and cut a 5 1/4” x 2 3/4” piece in one color and a 5 1/4” x 1” piece in a contrasting pattern.  Then just glue them down to your card front so there is even spacing along all the outside edges.  See, that was easy enough!

Then stamp your Koala and color him in with complementary colors (I use the following markers – Crushed Curry, Pink Pirouette, and Cucumber Crush for the stem).  I sponged around the outside of the cardstock before adhering to the Bermuda bay cardstock mat.  Oh, and you can’t forget that candy dot that is the perfect center for your flower!

I used my retiring Updated Essentials piercing template to poke straight line holes around the stamped Koala to make a frame and then added just a touch of the Bermuda Bay ribbon.  Pop those up on Stampin’ Dimensionals and you have yourself a card!

So you can mix and match this idea with all kinds of great stamps and patterned papers, but I wanted to give some of my retiring products some love. Smile  You can see them and all the rest that are saying farewell here… including items that are up to 50% off!  Sweet!

  • Gratitude Month Week 2 FREE Tutorial – Patriotic Thank You Card

As promised, though a little late, I shared this tutorial with my newsletter mailing list earlier this week (if you aren’t on the list you can sign up here).  But I also wanted to make sure to post it on my blog as well!  This was my card for Veteran’s Day and so it is a thank you card with a patriotic touch.

November Gratitude Month – Week 2 PDF Tutorial – Patriotic Thank You Card

    Tips for this card:

    • Emboss the three main stars from Be the Star stamp set onto your favorite colored cardstock and heat set with white embossing powder for maximum punch.
    • Each star can be exactly die cut using the coordinating Stars framelits and did you notice how well they nestle together?
    • Take the banner shape from the For All Things stamp set and stamp in Crumb Cake ink and cut out.  Then cut it in half to create two banners for your card.  Staple together with the mini stapler from Stampin’ Up and you have a cute accent for the top of your card.
Personally, I like stapling twice for decoration. Smile

    • Add a button and some ribbon, but keep it neutral so your stars can take center stage.

And most importantly, make sure to give this card to someone who means so much to you!

  • Stamped Scrapbook Pages on a Kiwi Lane Designs Blog Hop

76834_10152085028263232_1279811947_nI have a fun blog hop for you today and it is something a little bit different!  My friends have gone a little fan girl over Kiwi Lane and their designer templates.  Basically they are plastic templates that you can use to help design your projects by layering them on your base paper to decide what you want it to look like before you actually cut into your paper!  So, when I was offered the chance to play with a set and participate in this blog hop, I jumped at the chance.

    Wanna see what I made?

Aren’t they cute?!  I swear these pictures make me smile every time I look at them. 🙂

So, what am I showing off her in this layout besides my cuties?  Three things that are really fun to play with:

    1. The 12” Borders Clara Lane templates from Kiwi Lane.

See all those waves – I totally traced them and, yes, cut them out.  But don’t they add some nice whimsy to the page? I actually started out this page by laying out a few of the templates on a piece of designer paper to get an idea for how I wanted to put it together:

Then I just had to pick my papers, trace, and cut.

    2. Perfect Pennants Stamps from Stampin’ Up

Have I mentioned how much I love the sentiments from this set?  Plus I had to use the border/pennant element stamps to add a little bit of something extra next to the photos.

And even the heart next to my favorite little guy!

(psst – I even used my rotary stamp to date the page!)

    3. Watercolor Wonder designer paper from Stampin’ Up!

This is one of those sets of paper that I kept thinking was really pretty, but never actually got to cutting into it…. well, fixed that problem!  I loved the colors and decided to go for it on this page.

And while you can’t see as much of them on the first page, I figured I decided I wanted to do something with the remaining “scraps” of paper that was left over after I cut out my waves for layout 1 and so I whipped together layout 2!

I just took my leftover designer paper and thought it would make a great edge to a scrapbook page.  I layered them together – Don’t Gasp! – I’ll admit, I cut off the bottom two layers so I could save a ton of the paper for future projects, but I liked the pattern on top for a background for my page.  Then I layered all the waves over another piece of patterned paper (Soft Sky pattern from the paper stacks) to complete the look.

Here are a few of my favorite touches I wanted to show you up close on this one:

    • Wood starburst accent from the Essentials Wooden Elements
    • Mix and match Washi Tape adding some pop behind my photo
    • Some Natural trim ribbon
    • And if you look REALLY CLOSE, you can see my faux stitching I did along the edge of the wave.  It is actually pretty subtle on the final page in person as well, but gives just a little extra something.

So, what do you think? Fun, right?

What I loved, I was able to pull these two layouts together in ONE naptime!  Yup, the first layout took me more of the time, but then the second one using the scraps just came together. I think I have the fun templates and the cute paper patterns to thank for that.

  • Getting back into the stamping groove

I am again on another (and last for awhile) trip, this time up to visit my parents.  My mom had an event last night and so I came up to help her get ready and be there for the event.   I have to tell you about a cool thing she did with one of the Stampin’ around wheels last night.

At her event, she had two long rectangular folding put together with a paper table cloth covering both of them.  Then, she took my snowflake wheel and, starting at one end of the tables, walked to the other end rolling a wavy pattern of snowflakes down the entire length of the tables.  It was fast and very cute, and I wouldn’t have thought about using the wheel to decorate a long banner or tablecloth!  So, just another way of using your scrapping tools.

So, now that event is done, I’m spending the week playing with some of my new stamp sets and agonizing over which inventory blowout items and retired accessories I need to get before they are gone. 🙂 Of course, I’ll be posting my samples here on my blog, so check them out and let me know what you think of the new products coming out.  In the meantime, I’ll also be keeping the retired accessory list up-to-date each day in the original post here.  Items are already starting to sell out so don’t wait to long to pick up your favorites!

So, on to my sample for today.  I decided to use another couple stamps from the Love You Much stamp set, and then had to use some of my Ridinghood Red/Very Vanilla striped grosgrain ribbon.  I just love this ribbon and hope it makes it into the new catalog!  The sentiment is from the retiring Warm Words stamp set.
