  • Teacher Appreciation Card for Cute Card Thursday

It’s the last Thursday of the month, which means it is my final week as guest designer over at Cute Card Thursday.  This week is a fun challenge, the theme is

    Too Cool for School

Now, since I’ve been out of school long enough, all I could think of were 80’s movies (like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) or the fact that we are nearing the end of the school year and I know enough teachers and how hard they work that they deserve a little appreciation.

So to all the teachers out there…. THANK YOU for your hard work this year!

When I started flipping through my paper and supplies, I knew I wanted to use my Storytime designer paper for the card.  I mean, look at these patterns, don’t they just scream school house to you? Smile

    image

It is totally a Dick and Jane book!

Anyway, this is one of those paper packs that I pull out and think… awww its so cute!  And then I argue with myself about whether I need more of it because it is so cute or if I’m ok with using the last few scraps and getting excited about new paper designs coming out soon!  I guess I have a few more days before it retires on June 3rd as long as it doesn’t sell out before then!

So while I ponder my final list of “have to haves” from the retiring Spring Catalog and Annual Catalog, hop on over to Cute Card Thursday to check out the other cute school-themed cards and even submit your own for the challenge!

  • Scrapbooking Sunday: Butterflies & Tea for Two!

Ugh, I am terrible at titles for blog posts but I am so excited to share this scrapbook layout with you today!  I just LOVE how it turned out and hope you can use some of the ideas I had to dress up your own scrapbooking layouts and cards.  I used the Tea for Two designer paper and the Bloomin’ Marvelous stamp set as my inspiration for the theme of the page.

So, this is a layout that I had to create because each year I always go to the Stampin’ Up! convention and of course, the big celebrity is Shelli Gardner herself!  And so, I had to get Caitlin (and my) photo with her last year and document it.  Because if there aren’t pictures, it didn’t happen…. right?  Smile

So, let me show you some of my accents and details that went into this page so you can use them on your own projects later:

    Heat Embossed Title

Ok, so, if you’ve been in my craft room, you know I’m obsessed with alphabet stickers and alphabet dies so I can create custom titles for my pages.  Well, sometimes I have stamps that fit just right for my title and when that happens, I love to do some heat embossing.

In this case, I pulled the convention-exclusive stamp set they handed out last year and stamped the flourish frame in Versamark and embossed with Basic Black embossing powder.  Then I stamped the words from the same set in Versamark and embossed again with white embossing powder.

And did you see those butterflies?  My mom suggested earlier this week that you could layer the small butterfly punch on top of the Elegant butterfly punch.  Well, I decided to give it a try by stamping the butterfly from the Bloomin’ Marvelous Sale-a-Bration stamp set and punching it out with the Elegant Butterfly punch.  Add a little Dazzling Details glitter glue in the center of each butterfly and you get this:

I wanted to add some texture and so I first added the Stitched Grosgrain Whisper White ribbon along the middle of the strip of chevron designer paper from the Tea for Two designer paper pack.  It was a perfect subtle touch.  And then (of course after I glued down my pictures) I decided I wanted to add a doily too.  So, I hacked up one of the paper doilies and gently pulled up the edges of my photos to tuck it under.

And then finally, even after sponging the entire edge of the page with Calypso Coral ink, I decided that the upper left corner needed something.  So I grabbed some scraps of the different patterns from the Tea for Two designer paper pack and snipped the ends into banners and glued/stapled them to the top of the page.

I am really happy with how it turned out and hope you got some fun ideas too!  I’d love to hear what you think.

  • Last Day for Stamps Like on this Snowflake Thank You

Day 2 of the new year, and with the new year means more new things!  So, to get ready for the NEW Spring Catalog, that means it is the LAST DAY for some of our favorites from the Holiday Catalog and more promotions!  So, I just wanted to give you a chance to check out and make sure you didn’t have something on your list that was going away tomorrow.

Don’t Miss These Items (last day to order 1/2/2012) –

    Single Stamps

Stampin’ Up! was trying out offering some extra single stamps as well as allowing you to pick and choose the stamps you wanted from a couple different sets.  They haven’t told us demonstrators how the trial went so I don’t know if they will continue to offer full sets broken up, but just in case not – here is what is available:

    imageimageimageimageimage

I love that some of them match the punches too… like this cool Bold Snowflake stamp.

    The Holiday Catalog

So, the Holiday Catalog ends today as well.  And though some of the items will still be available to purchase during the Spring Catalog period, there are some awesome things that are going away.  Here are my top 5 that are no longer going to be available:

    1.  Early Espresso and Cherry Cobbler Core’dinations Cardstock

    2.  Champagne Glimmer Paper

    3.  Frosty Friends snowman stamp

    4.  Mitten Builder Punch

    5.  Festival of Prints designer series paper stack

I really hope some of these come back in the next Annual catalog but there is no guarentee.  So, if you are like me and can’t get enough bling (sigh… champagne glimmer paper) or love those cutie patootie snowmen…. grab these while you can.

check out the holiday catalog items in the online store here

    Holiday Packaging Bundles

These were great for the holidays but some – like the gussetted bags with tags would be cute at any time!  So, if you are looking for some easy gift packaging, these may be for you.

So check them out and don’t miss out!

I’ll be back tomorrow with all the deets on the new Spring Catalog and my first project share from the new catalog… and Spring Catalog Product Samplers!!
(I’ll have paper, ribbon, and embellishment samplers for you)

In the meantime, if you need anything that is going away today, let me know asap at jennifer@nwstamper.com or shop online now to grab them while they are still here.

    See you tomorrow!

  • Christmas Gift Tags from Scraps and No Peeking

Ok, so Christmas is only 2 days away!  Eep!  Are you ready and have all your presents wrapped?  I’ll admit, I have most of them wrapped but not all of them!

But wrapping presents got me thinking about gift tags and I was going crazy with the No Peeking set and had so much fun playing with my ribbon and paper scraps to make a variety of tags for this year.  Check out what I made:

It all started with me stamping a bunch of images on scrap paper and then picking up extra cardstock scraps from around my craft table and punching or cutting them into roughly tag shapes.

First I grabbed some Gumball Green and heat embossed the “No peeking” sentiment with white embossing powder.  Then I punched them out and added some ribbon and cut out stamped images

Next were some simple flap style tags.  I scored them so that the heat embossed sentiment (white for the “no peeking” and Early Espresso for the “Jolly Christmas”) would show when it was closed.  Then I decorated the flap with cut out stamped images and ribbon.

Next I was on to some more simple tags.  I just embossed or stamped the images of the penguin and reindeer and cut them out, then layered them onto the Real Red scallop and Gumball Green circle.  Stamp the “To: From:” sentiment on the back and you are good to go!

Finally, my last set were my random experiments.  I had an extra reindeer on a scallop circle and thought it would look cute on a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock (really like how this turned out) and I tried to leave enough space so you can actually write who it is to and from.  (I had thought this through in my head before seeing how much space there actually was!)

And finally, my ultimate in playing.  I had the scrap of Crumb Cake and Real Red and decided to do a twisted tag.  I stamped and then heat embossed the penguin in Basic Black (it looks awesome heat embossed by the way) and then colored in some of the spaces with my Real Red marker.  Then I stamped a little bird next to him also in Basic Black (you can see how much nicer it looks embossed this way).  Then I added some “snowballs” aka pearls along the side.

So there you have it!  Some quick last minute gift tags to add a touch of handmade to your projects.

  • Two Styles of Card, One Stamp Set–Lacy and Lovely

I love when you get a chance to see how versatile a stamp set can be, not only in the different types of occasions that you can use the set for, but also when you can see it being used for a “girly” card as well as a “guy” card.  Well, thanks to convention this year, I was able to get some cool ideas for a set I had totally overlooked – Lacy and Lovely!

See, I’m not normally a doily and lace stamp set kind of girl, so I skimmed past that section of the catalog, but after continually seeing swaps that made me go, “what stamp set is that??” and them all being from Lacy and Lovely, I have to reconsider my stance. 🙂

    Exhibit A:  the vintage card

    card designed by Sue McQuiston

Sadly, my photo doesn’t properly show off the sponging and ivory/brown distressing the card, but you get the idea!

    Exhibit B: the guy card

    card designed by Daleen Pinder

I love the clean and crisp style of this card and the colors are bold too.  I think this totally works for a guy even though I initially thought that stamp set was all lacy.

Plus, I love that this stamp set comes with sentiments as well as the element images.  I so love having a variety of sentiments to choose from.

Anyway, I thought this was a fun example of how colors and techniques can really make a big difference in how the same images come across.

  • Scallop Edged Reason to Smile

As I was working on cards for this month, I decided to grab my new Reason to Smile stamp set and start playing around again.  I was inspired by how the edgelits were used in the latest catalog and some ribbon I had on my shelf and found this new-to-me color combination:  Early Espresso, Calypso Coral, Whisper White, and River Rock.  LOVE!

I love how this card looks in real life and so I decided to use it, not only for my class on Friday, but this will be one of the cards in this month’s Cards to Go program

I’ll admit, this is my first time breaking out my scalloped edgelits.  However, I love the subtle lacy look they give the bottom of this card.  I also, started out without the extra layer of Whisper White (with the 3 flower images) and had a single flower image on the White cardstock below.  But it just needed something and after playing around with a scrap piece of paper, I thought the sponged edge gave the card an interesting look.

I wanted to leave you with one last tip about ordering your Reason to Smile stamp set (for only $5!).  If you are shopping online, you will need to look in the special offers box to add it to your order.  So, make sure you have selected $50 in product into your shopping cart and then you should see a link to select whether you want to add in the Reason to smile stamp set and in wood or clear mount.

  • Make a Cake & Patio Party Sneak Peek

Ever have one of those patterned papers that needs space to show off?  Well, when playing with my Patio Party designer paper that is coming out in the new catalog, I really liked this print but it just doesn’t show off very well in a small piece.  So when I found this sketch, I thought it would be perfect for this paper!

The lanterns reminded me of a party, so I grabbed my new Make a Cake stamp set to help finish it off (and every cake needs a little bling, don’t you think).  I also have my Whisper White stitched grosgrain ribbon as an accent.  I have to say, it doesn’t really show up in pictures, but the stitching is a nice touch to just make the ribbon a bit more interesting.

And yep! Both of these (the ribbon and the paper) are available in my New Catalog Product Share along with the Stitched Satin ribbon and In Color Dahlias!

  • Stampin’ Up! Catalog Sneak Peek

I feel almost selfish, I ordered some of the new sneak peek products earlier this month and while I’ve been getting to know them; I haven’t done much sharing (aside from the In Color sampler bookmarks I included with mailed catalogs).

Well, I thought I would change that and share a card I made to play with a bunch of new things… can you guess how many new items are in this card?

    So, what is your guess?

If you said 5 items, I’d say nice job!  If you said 6, then you are exactly right! Smile

First off is the super cute paper called Patio Party that features the new In Colors.  I thought the banners design was cool enough on its own that I wanted to let it shine by being the focal point of the card.  Next, I added some of the new stitched grosgrain ribbon (Daffodil Delight in this case) for a border trim and to help my sentiment pop!  Ok, #3 – the stamp set called Itty Bitty Banners.  Now, I like sentiments and banners but I wouldn’t be loving this set as much if it wasn’t for the fact that there are new framelits to exactly match the stamps!!! woo hoo!!!  So, that is number 4, the matching Bitty Banner framelits!  I love how easy it makes my job at cutting out the sentiments.

So, that leaves 2 more new things to spot.  Well, they are new In Colors… first is the pink paper matting my paper in the middle of the card – it is the new Primrose Petals and it is super pretty.  And finally, I stamped my sentiment in the new blue called Midnight Muse.  I know, it is hard to tell but it is a really nice blue color.  Not quite as dark as Night of Navy but deeper than Island Indigo or Not Quite Navy.

Well, all of these things are available starting June 1.  but… did you know you can get them earlier than that?

Want to get these items now?

Did you know, that if you order the Stampin’ Up demonstrator starter kit (your choice of $125 worth of products for only $99 plus free shipping!) now, you are able to fill your starter kit with sneak peek items.  This includes multiple stamp sets, accessories, paper, and even the new firm foam ink pads in all of the Stampin’ Up! colors!

Oh, and did I mention that the starter kit ships for free?  It is a great deal and a perfect way to start enjoying the benefits of being a demonstrator now!  In fact, if you sign up online, you will have access to the demonstrator website most likely within the hour.  How fun is that!

If you have questions or would like to learn more, shoot me a note at jennifer@nwstamper.com and I’d be more than happy to fill you in on all the details.  Or if you are ready to go, you can start building your kit by signing up online now.
