Dear Heart for those Great Boy Cards

I don’t know if you remember the Sweetie Pie photopolymer stamp set that came out a few months ago.  It was filled with these cute sketch art girl faces and a couple frames and accessory stamp images.  Turns out it was popular and sold out pretty fast.  Well, today, Stampin’ Up put out another stamp set like that only this time its all about the boys!  It’s called Dear Heart and look at some of the cute stuff they are making with it:

    dear-heart-1

Both of these cards were designed by the concept artists as Stampin’ Up, and I think they are so fun!

    dear-heart-2

You can see all the options and different images in the set – can I just say that alligator/dinosaur guy just makes me smile. Smile

And as a reminder, today is Tuesday which means new weekly deals!  I especially love that Washi Tape!  If you would like any, let me know and I can try to organize a group order.

  • Congratulations Card in Blue

    Congratulations Card in Blue

Tis the season for graduations and transitions, so it is a great time to pull out your congratulation stamps and put together some fun congratulations cards.  Today’s card uses on of the new Photopolymer stamps from Stampin’ Up called Bravo – and if you are on my mailing list, you got the PDF tutorial for making this card in your latest newsletter.  If you aren’t getting my newsletters, you can sign up here and you’ll be all set for future tutorials and tips!

Congratulations Card with Bravo stamp set

Now you are totally going to laugh at me, but I saw the images from this stamp set long before I got the set (I earned it free as part of a promotion for demonstrators) and I thought,” Oh, this has some nice sentiments and fonts”.

I knew the set was called “Bravo”, I saw the images… but somehow it wasn’t until I got it in the mail and went to go use it that it suddenly hit me that all of the sentiments were some form of congratulations! Smile  Doh!   How did that totally escape my notice? I had a good laugh for my blockheadedness and got to work on my congratulations stamp.

Anyway, I did like the idea of using this set to create my own background image.  I started by laying out the stamps on my paper (image side down) until I had positioned everything to where I wanted it.  Then I grabbed my big clear block (block F) and placed it on top of my set of stamps so that when I picked up the block, I had everything exactly where I wanted them.

    2014-05-22 21.06.20

Then all I had to do was ink and then stamp and my background is done!  Exactly how I wanted it.

Add some glimmer stars using the new Itty Bitty Accents punch pack and some ribbon and you are done.  Switch up the colors and you can use this for any school colors or event.  Yay for flexibility!

    Stampin’ Up Supplies Used

You can do this idea with any of your clear mount stamps – arranging them on your paper first and them positioning the clear block to pick them up and keep them in just the right spot.  So, have fun and give it a try!

  • A Totally Different Style with the New Sweetie Pie Stamps

A Totally Different Style with the New Sweetie Pie Stamps

So, each month Stampin’ Up releases a new photopolymer stamp set and this month was a fun change of pace!  This was actually designed by a writer/editor at Stampin’ Up who decided to draw some designs and submit them.  I’ll admit I wasn’t sure about the style at first but I think it is a fun and fresh variation on what we see in a lot of stamps today!  Here are a couple of the samples using the new Sweetie Pie stamp set.

The first stamp set is lots of fun different girls faces (or boys with long hair!)

    Sweetie Pies

    Sweetie Pie Photopolymer Stamp Set

But then they came out with a coordinating Sweetie Pie Frames stamp set that you can use with the faces or on its own for some interesting flourishes.

    Sweetie Pie Frames Stamp Set

I was still trying to figure out how I would use the set when I saw this sample created by Lydia Fielder at Understand BlueI LOVE it and thought it was a brilliant idea so I wanted to share it as inspiration as well. Smile

Also, I just have to say her use of markers makes me itch for the release of the Stampin’ Up! Blendabilities markers!!  Guess I just try to practice right now with my blender pens.

So what do you think?  Love the new set and style or not your thing?

    This week’s weekly deals

Also, I’m a bit delayed in getting this posted, but wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to check out the new weekly deals this week.  Lots of fun stuff for Big Shot/Cuttlebug lovers!

  • Stampin’ Up Leadership Convention 2014–Day 1

Oh. My. Word.  I just finished the first day of Stampin Up’s Leadership conference and there has been so much great stuff that has been happening that I’m going to have to be super brief so I can try to share it all with you!

That and the fact that it is almost 3am here in Houston and I really ought to go to bed soon before my 7:00am wakeup call.  ; )

If you are looking for lots more pictures – check out the albums on my Facebook page, these are my highlights reel and exciting news scoop!

    Leadership Day 1 Highlights

This year Leadership is smaller in terms of attendance than last year (no surprise because last year was an anniversary year) but that meant I had an easier time finding friends that I was excited to see and catch up with!  I may not be the best about staying in touch, but everyone is so amazing when you see them again at an event like this!

    2014-01-09 09.15.19

Hanging with the Seattle-based SBStamper crew!  And then quick pictures with two amazing gals I got to hang out with at Founder’s Circle this year – Tamra Davis and Julie Davison!

    IMG_0001IMG_0002

Then session was ready to start.  I had the new snazzy bag they gave us and we waited to hear what new exciting things SU had in store.

    2014-01-09 09.52.29

Let me say, they did NOT disappoint!  First up was Shelli Gardner, CEO of Stampin’ Up!  She was in a horse riding accident last August and was unable to walk due to fractures of her pelvis, clavicle, and wrist!  And check it out, not only is she walking now – but in HEELS!  What a strong and driven woman.

    IMG_0006

After a great message from Shelli, her daughter Sarah took the stage and started sharing some stamping projects with us.  IMG_0020Little did we know we were going to be BOMBARDED with new product announcements

My poor seat neighbors probably go some ringing in the ears from my excited screaming as we saw and heard about new goodies such as:

Blendabilities – Alcohol based blending markers

    IMG_0010

These markers will come in sets of 3 – with different shades (“light”, “dark”, etc) of the same color that will blend together to allow you to create gorgeously smooth colored images.  And it will only be $11.95 for the set which is a great deal for this type of marker!

The markers are currently in production right now so we didn’t get to play with them, but we saw them demo’d up close and I CAN’T WAIT to get my hands on some!

    IMG_0034

See all 12 colors that will be released in the first quarter of this year

    New Photopolymer Stamps & Update

Then she talked about photopolymer stamps – aka “completely clear stamps” – and share how they will be continuing to not only release a new photopolymer stamp set each month, but there will be photopolymer stamps in the June annual catalog!

Plus, they will start coming in CASES mid-year, yay!  And they will be picking designs for these stamps sets that are most benefited by the completely clear nature of the stamp (like alphas and outlines).

    IMG_0019

Even new photopolymer personalized name stamps!

    IMG_0025

After the initial sessions, we got lunch and a chance to check out the Gathering Place. It was full of great stuff including

    Children’s Hospital Service Project

We were working to put together 500 Birthday Celebration kits (notebooks, banners, stamp, marker, etc) to give to kids at the hospital.  We all chipped in on assembling the kits and boxing them up.

    2014-01-09 13.19.172014-01-09 13.19.24

there were lots of resources for business building tips and tool training, but I didn’t get a chance to hit most of the booths on day 1.  So more on the interesting parts another day.

But there were lots of samples and project displays!

Like I love this lollipop decorated with the new Spiral Flower die!

    IMG_0035

    And of course, display boards!

    IMG_0052 (2)IMG_0072 (2)
    IMG_0117IMG_0095 (2)

Then it was off to more classes for sharing all kinds of great ideas for projects, classes, ways of meeting new people, better using social media, etc.  Fun stuff!

We finally got a break, which I TOTALLY needed because my cell phone had died earlier in the afternoon.  But soon it was time to head back to the convention center to catch a bus to Manager’s Reception.

Stampin’ Up! sets up a special event every year for anyone who has grown their group enough to have earned the title of Manager or above.  They plan a fun activity and some snacks to eat while you are there.

So, our wild crew got ready and waited in line for our bus.  (Aren’t those sharks adorable?!?  They were our tickets to the event!)

    2014-01-09 18.56.03

We headed to the Houston downtown aquarium and boy was it more than I ever expected!  We got off the bus and were greeted by staff, stilt walkers, and not just fish but amusement rides!

      IMG_0228

Plus there was SO MUCH AMAZING FOOD!  I’m glad I didn’t eat dinner before I came!

    IMG_0125IMG_0112

We rode a huge ferris wheel

    IMG_0225

We had a chance to feed some stingrays.

(If you want to check out the hilarious faces we all made when the stingray took the fish from our fingers, click and be ready for a laugh!)

    IMG_0155IMG_0231

And generally wanderd, talked, and had a great time!  It was a full but super fun day and though I’m still up even though it is almost 4 in the morning, I can’t wait to get up and see what is in store for us tomorrow … err… later this morning.  : )

I’ll be back tomorrow with more details as I get them.

  • Playing with Photopolymer Stamps

The stamping world has had Photopolymer stamps for quite a while and I used to try to play with my “completely clear” stamps.  I love the idea that I could see totally through the stamp so that I knew precisely where I was stamping.  However, I discovered that not all clear stamps are created equal.  I have some that have turned yellow on me (even without me using them… gasp! I know, right? how can you have stamps that never get inky? Winking smile) and I have some that frustrated me because I couldn’t get a crisp image no matter what I tried.

Well, Stampin’ Up! held off while they tried to figure out a formula for making these stamps without some of these issues.  Then they started coming out with their own designs.  So, I decided to give them a shot and then thought I’d share what I did.

I grabbed the Designer Typeset stamp set, which was the first set they came out with.  See, this is what it looks like when you get it…. no box, just a ton of cute little clear stamps in a plastic sleeve.

    designer typeset photopolymer stamps

And out of the sleeve….Designer Typeset photopolymer stamps

Then I set to work and created this as one of my first cards:

designer typeset photopolymer thank you card

I know, it is totally simple, but it gave me a chance to experiment and learn a few things… like:

    • Don’t be afraid to bend your stamps!
If they can bend and stay on the block, then it is perfectly fine to stamp them that way.  If they won’t stay on the block, you’ve bent it too far. Smile
    • Be prepared and ok that your stamped lines aren’t going to be super thin
When you push on the stamp to transfer your ink to paper, the photopolymer compresses and stretches a little, so you get slightly fatter lines than you maybe expected.
    • If you have the letters, lay them out on your paper for placement – THEN push the block down on them to ink up.
So in this case, I stamped the banners first.  Then I laid out my letters in exactly the spot I wanted them to be on my banner.  How to line up letters with photopolymer stamps on a card
THEN I pressed my clear block down on top of the letters.   That way I could ink them up all at the same time and stamp knowing they would go exactly where I wanted them to go!

How to line up letters with photopolymer stamps

    • The juicier the ink pad the better!
Yes I know, it goes without saying… but still.  I did see slight differences when I used my old style ink pads with my new ink pads.

So, if you think it is something fun to try and play with, Stampin’ Up! just came out with their 5th photopolymer stamp set – Wanderlust.  But here is the complete list:

I still love my rubber stamps… but I definitely think completely clear stamps have a place in my stamp room too!

    Photopolymer (Completely Clear) Stamps

So, this is the big news of the month!  Stampin’ Up! is offering a trial run of a new Photopolymer stamps.  Designer Typeset Photopolymer Stamp Set - Stampin' Up!

When Stampin’ Up! came out with the clear mount stamps they were the rubber stamps with cling foam because many of the completely clear stamps were made with acrylic or silicone that do not stamp or age well at all.  If you have any old clear stamps that have turned yellow or gotten tacky or gummy, you know what I’m talking about.

But Stampin’ Up has found a method of using photopolymer material to create these clear stamps that they say will give you a great impression and allow you to see where you are stamping.

This is a trial run and so right now there is only one stamp set and it is the one you see in the picture above.  I am getting my set next week, and as soon as I do I’ll post more details and try to put together a video so you can see how they work. Smile

    Check out the flyer here

If you can’t wait to give them a try, the set is only $13.95
