NEW! First Frost Class by Mail

I created this class for my Northwest Crafty Escape Weekend this fall and loved the cards so much that I’ve been wanting to share it as a class by mail.  Well, time raced by and I realized that if I wanted to share it with you it had to be NOW otherwise we would miss the beautiful Frosted Floral designer paper as it retires at the end of this month!  This set makes beautiful cards for the holidays, new year, and really any time of the year.  I’d love to share these ideas with you and help you make them at home.

    First Frost Class by Mail

Ok, so how do my classes by mail work?  Well, I try to make it easy for you to have fun creating beautiful cards and try to give you a little extra so you can keep playing after you finish the kit cards.  I do any die cutting or embossing for you – with the exception of die cuts that need to be stamped first (so like in this case, there are a couple flowers you would need to stamp before die cutting.  In those cases, I give you the cardstock so you can stamp and cut yourself.

You also get all the precut paper and accessories needed to complete your kit.  All you need is your adhesive, stamps, and ink.

You can purchase the project kit, or I offer a discount if you add-on the coordinating stamps & dies.

  • Congratulations or Birthday Card – You Decide!

Congratulations or Birthday Card – You Decide!

I recently held my first Creative Cards class of the year with my local stampers. And, since it was right after the Stampin’ Up Occasions catalog launched, I HAD to play with all the new stuff I had gotten from that catalog! I am so glad I had this class on the books because I hadn’t taken much time to get my new stamps inky before then.

Let me give you a little back story – see, my family is FULL of December babies.  My birthday is in mid-December, both of my kiddos are in December (one at the beginning of the month, one at the end of the month) plus there is my Sister in Law’s birthday and Christmas, not to mention my Mother-in-Law and niece who both have birthdays around Thanksgiving.  So, you see… the end of the year is a busy time for me around here! 🙂   Add to that the fact that it looked like a tornado had thoroughly gone through most of the rooms in our house; well, lets just say that I spent most of the month cleaning up in preparation for parties or holiday get togethers, prepping for those events, and then cleaning up afterwards!

So, now things are getting back into a routine and I’m excited to start stamping more and sharing more here on my blog and over on my Facebook page. 🙂  Like this fun card using the Amazing You stamp set and Celebrate You thinlits from the Sale-a-Bration catalog!  I love that these can be Congrats or Birthday… which do you think this card would be good for?

Mix & Match for a fun Celebration card

This card started out as the idea of having the half sunburst behind the sentiment on a plain white cardbase.  But I got excited and stamped my images and then realized the idea that was in my head just was not working out in real life!  So, I started grabbing bits and pieces from around my craft table to add a little bit of color, a little bit of pop, and some extra sequins for balance; and I ended up loving how it turned out!

So don’t be afraid to grab unrelated embellishments and papers and experiment with popping them onto your project!

Need some pieces to play with?  Check out my 2018 Occasions Catalog product samplers to get a little bit of all the new papers, ribbons, and embellishments – so you can try them out and see which ones you like!

Amazing You Sale-a-bration card idea side view

    Tips for making this card:
    • Neutral pattern papers are great! Take advantage of the Petal Passion designer paper being all black and white designs. Use them add some weight to your card without having to worry about conflicting colors.  I added this 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ strip to the left side of my card to anchor all my different elements.
    • Coordinate the stamps and dies – Coordinate the sentiments from the Amazing You stamp set with the die cut sentiments from Celebrate You thinlits.  They are both free with a purchase during the Sale-a-Bration promotion (Jan-Mar 2018).  The stamp set is free with a $50 purchase, the dies are free with a $100 purchase.  *Or get them BOTH* with a $150 order, PLUS you’ll become the host of your own party and get an extra $15+ in free goodies to add on to your order.  And who doesn’t love free?
Create your own Amazing You Bundle
    • Pick your Pop of Color – If you stick to one or two light or neutral colors (in this card, I used Basic Black, Basic Grey, and Daffodil Delight), then add in one bright color to add a pop to brighten things up!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this Berry Burst metallic edge ribbon, and so used that behind my sentiment for that extra pop!
    • Customize your stamps!  I wanted to add the flower from the Amazing You stamp set but it turned out it was just too big for how the card was turning out.  So just cut off the leaves!  I colored in the flower using my Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends, trimmed out, and ready to pop on the card.

    • Sequins made easy! Finally I needed just one more touch – and it was the Tutti Frutti adhesive back sequins!  You get 5 pretty colors (Berry Burst, Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Pool Party, Pumpkin Pie).  And they already have glue on the back so they are a snap to add on to your projects and they don’t fall off later! 🙂

  • Congratulations Card for my Fun n’ Crafty Stampers!

Congratulations Card for my Fun n’ Crafty Stampers!

So, I’m off with my hubby on an amazing adventure to the Mediterranean – the Stampin’ Up grand vacation cruise!  The grandparents are staying at our house to watch over kitties and kiddos, and I’m so excited to be headed off on this adventure!

PS – I don’t expect to have much access to the internet so I probably won’t be on email much for the next week and a half.  But when I can, I’ll try to post pictures of our adventure over on my Facebook page – so I’d love to have you come join me over there!  Visit my Northwest Stamper Facebook page.

Ok, but back to where I was going with all this – aside from being really stinkin’ excited to get to see cities I’ve only read about AND get to stamp with some amazing folks ON A BOAT!  For reals!  Yep, they will have a hospitality room on the cruise ship and we’ll get to see project ideas and even stamp a little I’m hearing!  Ok, bring it back…. Smile

You see, I wouldn’t be on this trip if it wasn’t for my AMAZING Fun n’ Crafty Stamper team.  They are the coolest, most supportive group… and I’m so lucky that I get to share the fun demonstrator experience with them.  So, today’s card is one that I created for them!

You see, at the beginning of the year, I posed a challenge to them.  I had them set a resolution and goal for something they were going to do to improve their business or their enjoyment of this fun hobby.  They had to track it and report back how they were doing.  And they could earn prizes along the way.  So, this card was for all the folks that completed the challenge – because WOW they rocked it!

I used scraps to pull it together and some fun collage-y pieces from the Butterfly Basics stamp set to create the background elements.  I love how you can get lots of fun different layouts and look from these stamp pieces.

I wanted to experiment too with my Wink of Stella and getting cool glitter drops on my page.  I think they turned out really cool – and they are easy to do, the only thing you run into is that if they are extra big or juicy, you get a little bit of staining on the inside flap of the card where it soaks through a little.  But I didn’t mind, and hopefully they didn’t either. Smile

Making the Glitter Drops with Wink of Stella

    • Start by unscrewing the brush tip from your Wink of Stella brush.  This should expose a black flat circle with a small hole in the middle
    • Make sure you have shaken up you pen too before you start!
    • Hold the pen upside down over your paper (I held mine pretty much vertically) and then squeeze the barrel
    • You can tap the barrel (kind of like you might with a ketchup bottle) to get more of a splatter effect, or just squeeze to get different sized droplets.

I love finding ways to use up scraps and I especially love getting the chance to cheer and celebrate folks on my team.  Something I plan to do more of going forward!  Because really, they all deserve way more happy mail hand stamped cards coming their way, don’t you think?

Ever thought of getting the perks of being a Demonstrator?

There are so many great perks and fun reasons to be a demonstrator, from 20-25% off all your purchases to the amazing community and stamping friends you make – especially on our Fun n’ Crafty team facebook page.  Plus the opportunity to start earning money or even trips when you share your love of creating with others!

If you’ve been thinking about it, we’d love to have you join us on the Fun n’ Crafty Stampers team.  Smile  Check out some of the fun and perks here.

So you know… just sayin’ Winking smile  Only $99 to pick out your starter kit of $125 worth of products, PLUS right now you’ll even be able to pick out new catalog Sneak Peek items!  Yahoo.  Oh, and did I mention shipping is free too?  I can’t wait to welcome you to the fun side.

    Product List

  • Clean and Simple Congrats Card with Pleasant Poppies and Hey You

Remember how I told you that stamp sets on the retiring list were now while supplies last?  Well, on a whim as I was getting this blog post ready, I thought I would check out how the stamps were doing and discovered that the Pleasant Poppies stamp that I used for this focal point on this card is sold out.  *total sad face* Sad smile!

But if you do have it, awesome! And if you don’t, well you can still use this great idea with the flower stamps you do have, right?  Right!

    Featured Retiring Products:

Get them before they are gone by the end of the month!

Sometimes you don’t need a lot on a card to make an impact. Which is what we did with this card when we made it at Stamping Bingo earlier this month.  Have a bookmark sized piece as your focal point and then just punch out a sentiment like one of the many from the Hey You stamp set using the Wide Oval punch and then help it stand out by sponging the edges.

TIp –  I recommend sponging the edges of your paper with Sponge Daubers.  I have some people share how they sponge by running the paper across the surface of the ink pad (you get a really dark line only on the very edge of the paper) or they will use the yellow sponges (which gives you a very diffuse sponging area and it can be harder to control where you want the color).  I love Sponge Daubers because they give you finer control of where and how much ink you are coloring with and BONUS your fingers don’t get inky!  Yay!

Because you know you are going to get ink all over from something… might as well spare some ink where you can. Smile

To do the poppies, I cut a 2” strip of cardstock and stamped the flowers from my background stamp in Memento Black ink.  Color the flowers using your markers or Blender Pen until they are just right.  Then color the white space in between using those handy dandy sponge daubers!  I didn’t sponge over the flower heads but just went around them.  In this case it is Lost Lagoon on top and Hello Honey on the bottom.

Leave the rest of your card base plain white and your colored image will jump off the page!

Join me in celebrating the new catalog launch!

I’m getting excited for the release of the new catalog in only a few days.

Did you know?  The retiring catalog AND the Occasions catalog AND the new catalog will all overlap for ONE DAY!  Yup, it is true!  For ONE DAY ONLY you will be able to order out of all 3 catalogs and take advantage of the current hostess benefit levels.  So get those wishlists ready!

  • Congratulations Card in Blue

    Congratulations Card in Blue

Tis the season for graduations and transitions, so it is a great time to pull out your congratulation stamps and put together some fun congratulations cards.  Today’s card uses on of the new Photopolymer stamps from Stampin’ Up called Bravo – and if you are on my mailing list, you got the PDF tutorial for making this card in your latest newsletter.  If you aren’t getting my newsletters, you can sign up here and you’ll be all set for future tutorials and tips!

Congratulations Card with Bravo stamp set

Now you are totally going to laugh at me, but I saw the images from this stamp set long before I got the set (I earned it free as part of a promotion for demonstrators) and I thought,” Oh, this has some nice sentiments and fonts”.

I knew the set was called “Bravo”, I saw the images… but somehow it wasn’t until I got it in the mail and went to go use it that it suddenly hit me that all of the sentiments were some form of congratulations! Smile  Doh!   How did that totally escape my notice? I had a good laugh for my blockheadedness and got to work on my congratulations stamp.

Anyway, I did like the idea of using this set to create my own background image.  I started by laying out the stamps on my paper (image side down) until I had positioned everything to where I wanted it.  Then I grabbed my big clear block (block F) and placed it on top of my set of stamps so that when I picked up the block, I had everything exactly where I wanted them.

    2014-05-22 21.06.20

Then all I had to do was ink and then stamp and my background is done!  Exactly how I wanted it.

Add some glimmer stars using the new Itty Bitty Accents punch pack and some ribbon and you are done.  Switch up the colors and you can use this for any school colors or event.  Yay for flexibility!

    Stampin’ Up Supplies Used

You can do this idea with any of your clear mount stamps – arranging them on your paper first and them positioning the clear block to pick them up and keep them in just the right spot.  So, have fun and give it a try!

  • A Rainbow Card for You

I was trying to come up with a card idea for my Crystal Effects technique class recently and wanted an example where we used Crystal Effects as a clear glue for clear buttons or embellishments.  So, I started playing with my Bitty Buttons and came up with this card:

I was drawn to the bright and cheery colors and was originally going to have the Bitty Buttons backed by the matching cardstock (or straight onto the colored cardstock) but then decided that a pop of white would be nice.

I love using Crystal Effects for adhering paper to my Bitty Buttons because it creates a perfectly clear glue that doesn’t leave shadows or dimension (like glue dots do) and is easy to wrangle and holds like crazy! 🙂

  • Cheery Bright Blossoms

I have to admit, when I first saw the Bright Blossoms stamp set, I wasn’t sure that it was really my style or even that I liked it that much.  But I have to admit, the more I see it the more I like it!  Especially the stamp that I used on the card today.  There is something about this flower that I think is pretty cute and is perfect for clean and simple cards like this:

I know, the lighting isn’t the best in that picture so, here is another picture and you can see that how crisp the Tangerine Tango and the Whisper White look together.

Oh and did I mention how fun I think it is that the pattern in the stamp set matches the pattern in the Summer Smooches designer paper.  🙂  I know I can’t be the only one who loves coordination like this.

So, I’d love to hear, what do you think of this stamp set, thumbs up or thumbs down?

  • Elegant Congratulations Graduation Card

Last week I held my Dads and Grads class and as I was trying to plan my cards I realized that I had no idea what colors people would want or need for their graduation card.  So, it quickly turned into an elegant black and white card that could be used for any school out there.

The part I love is that you can take off the diploma and add some pretty flourish or flower and you have a lovely wedding card or congratulations for just about any occasion!  But if you wanted to make this card, the diploma is simply cutting a square of cardstock and rolling it tightly.

My trick is to roll it all the way up and then unroll it slightly so that you can use a glue dot to hold the roll in place. Then you will have no problem tying the ribbon around the paper for a finishing touch! Then adhere to your card with glue dots.  Easy peasy!

  • Congrats and Thinking of You Cards

This weekend was a lot of fun.  I hosted an Open Scrap day at my home on Saturday.  I had planned on sitting an working on my personal projects while the other ladies worked on their projects; but of course, I was way to social for that. 🙂 I was playing with my new BigShot, showing folks how to use it, and other fun techniques.  So, it wasn’t until 5 of the 6 ladies had headed home that I finally sat down with my kitty scrapbook and started working.  But it was fun to have 6 crafters over.  So, I still have all my stuff out in hopes that I will make more progress on my scrapbook, but I have a feeling tonight will be filled with getting ready for my technique night tomorrow.  Tomorrow we are playing with Crystal Effects and I’m really looking forward to it!

Here are the other two cards I made for my card kits for Saturday.  These last two came together very quickly and have helped me be an even bigger fan of the SAB sets.  Oh yeah, and the paper in the SAB catalog is so yummy!
