Geometric Inspiration with January’s Paper Pumpkin Kit

Just a reminder – if you’ve been thinking about signing up for My Paper Pumpkin (Stampin’ Up’s project kit of the month program) tomorrow is the LAST day to get FREE MARKERS with your first kit!  And you know it is no obligation, right?  You can pause a month, hold your subscription, or even cancel at any time.

So think about it, read more for a bit of Paper Pumpkin scoop, and then sign up and get the bonus!

    January’s Geometric Card Kit

So, I’ll admit some months I’ve loved the project kit and others I’ve not loved the default design but I’ve had a lot of fun mixing it up and making my own variations.  Now, I’m not sure if it is because I decided to start working on my cards after midnight or if its just that geometric isn’t my style, but I had a bit of a challenge with this kit.

So, here is what the cards were (mostly) supposed to look like based on the included instructions:

january paper pumpkin kit demo cards

I say “mostly” because I had to add that grey and white arrow pennant on the right hand card because it just felt too empty to me without something to balance it out a little.  I guess looking at them now, they are pretty cute but I just wasn’t feeling it when I was creating them, so I thought I would try something else.

    Here was attempt #1 –

January paper pumpkin doily xoxo card

I ended up using the same orientation at the original card (even though for a little bit I had this card turned on it’s side).  I just picked different stickers and added more of the doily to my card.  Definitely less geometric but still the fun layered look.

    This was attempt #2 –

jsnuary paper pumpkin variation 2 love card

So, this one, you get a little bit more of the geometric them still coming through because of the triangles and the hexagons, but with a few changes I ended up softening it a bit.

You may be wondering how I got the different card front – the blue and white stripes – but you see, this is actually the INSIDE of the card!  I just decided to flip the way the card was folded so instead of a solid blue paper peering out through the triangles, I have the Crumb Cake (kraft) color peeking through instead.

I also got a little wild and started trimming stickers and stamping straight onto the cardbase even though I had already started gluing pieces down!

In the end, I still had a ton of stickers and almost 2 doilies left over from my kit to play with later.

But here is the best part – the kits are getting BIGGER and BETTER starting this month!

I know it is a little silly, but I’m really excited to get the next couple month’s kits!  I got a sneak peek at leadership and thanks to a video on the demonstrator website, I was reminded how much is in each kit.  I was excited about February’s kit when I thought it included enough to make 1 or 2 of the project, but it actually includes enough to make 5 of the project!

In March, I can’t wait to play with the accessories and you get to make 8 of the projects!

The kits will start frequently coming with photopolymer stamps (completely clear stamps) designed by Stampin’ Up and it sounds like will have some fun and unique touches.

Curious and want to give it a try?
The kits are only $19.95 which includes shipping to you!  And if you sign up by tomorrow night, you’ll not only get the Welcome kit which comes with supplies to make 4 cards and a clear block, but you’ll ALSO get a set of 5 markers free!

  • Make 20 Cards in a Snap with the Everyday Occasions Kit

Have you been wishing you had a fast way to create a pile of handmade cards to have on hand that you’d be proud to send out?  And do it without breaking the bank too!  If so, you should check out this new Everyday Occasions kit

When we were at Founder’s Circle last week, they told us that these kits were finally going to be releasing this week.  They are meant to be a great introduction to someone who has never stamped before; but I have to say after looking at the cards, that it looks like fun to me!  Like this love card, how fun is it?!

Since this is meant for the new stamper, all the elements are precut and pre-punched so it makes it quick and easy to assemble.  The kit comes with a 7 piece stamp set that enables you to make a ton of different types of cards including:

    • Happy Birthday
    • Thank You
    • Congratulations
    • For You
    • Love
    • Thinking of You

Wanna see them?  Check it out!

I know, cute…. right?  And I love that they can be used for girls or guys!

The best part? Its only $29.95… so that is less than $2 a card!  Plus you have ink and a stamp set you can use later.  Way better than getting a card in the store!

Want to see what you get for that?  Here is the scoop –

  • Some Ideas For Your My Paper Pumpkin Welcome Kit

This last week, I have been performing my civic duty by heading to the district courthouse each morning to report for jury duty.  Most people are not excited by being called for jury duty, but with two overly energetic toddlers in the house and a mom who offered to come help watch the kids, I was actually looking forward to the relative quiet and time away.

But I knew that there was likely going to be times when I was sitting around waiting and so I wanted to take something with me to keep me entertained.  And then it hit me the night before I was due to report and I was trying to figure out what I could grab to make my own crafting kit to go — why not just take my “Welcome Kit” box from My Paper Pumpkin?  All I needed to do was throw in some adhesive and my bone folder and I was ready to go!

My Paper Pumpkin at Jury Duty

So that is exactly what I did!  Smile  This is me sitting in our waiting area bench getting ready to start.  I found that the box, when closed, makes a fine table for assembling.

Now, I like that I can make 4 of the same card with this kit… but what if you don’t want 4 of the same card?  I decided to try to create a variety of designs using only what I got in the kit when making my cards. And this is what I came up with:

The card on the right is the design that is shown on the instruction sheet with the welcome kit supplies.  The card on the left is a bit of a variation.  (and psst – I couldn’t take scissors with me to court, so I made my left card look like the designer paper was skinnier by wrapping it around the left side of the card and adhering it to the back of the card base as well.  Tricky, huh?!)

And here are two more designs I came up with while playing around.  I ended up using all of the contents of my card with the exception of part of one of the green scallop stickers.  But I love that each of the cards is just a bit different from the other.

If you had other stamps at home, change up the sentiments or start adding even more embellishments for even more options.

Have you signed up for My Paper Pumpkin yet? Did you get your bonus?

Remember, you need to be signed up by Sunday, March 10th to make sure you get your Welcome Kit in mid-March and receive the new project kit in April!  If you sign up after the 10th, you will get your welcome kit mailed out in mid-April and then start receiving your regular monthly project kits in May.

  • Birthday Card Kit and Organizer

Can I share with you this project that we are making in my Birthday Card Kit and Organizer class this weekend?  Isn’t it such a fun and cheery birthday collection?

I had so much fun when I made this sample and I loved all the fun but simple ideas that we use on the different cards.  What you are seeing above is a fun desktop organizer with two storage compartments.  The front compartment is perfect for holding gift tags and 3×3 cards.  The top compartment is exactly right for holding standard sized cards and envelopes.  There is even a special spot for storing a coordinating pen!

All of the pieces of this project use the fun Create a Cupcake stamp set and the Build a Cupcake punch.  In the class we’ll be making the box, the matching pen, 2 full sized cards (with envelopes), 4 3×3 cards (with envelopes), and 4 gift tags using this punch set, some of the chunky glitter, ribbon, and some extra punches.  I’m so looking forward to it because even though I know it is a lot, I know folks will enjoy and love having so many items ready for last minute birthday gifts and parties.

If you are in the Bay Area and would like to come join us on Sunday afternoon for this class, let me know and I’d love to add you to the rsvp list!  Email me at jennifer@nwstamper.com.

But, I know many of you are from all over the country and even around the world and I thought you might like to make one of these projects yourself.  So, I’m creating kits for you as well! These class kits include:

    • All the cardstock and designer paper precut and scored for the cards, pen, and box
    • Punched out pieces to complete all of the projects
    • Ribbon and fibers required for the projects
    • 2 standard sized envelopes and 4 small square envelopes
    • A pen ready for customizing
    • Instruction sheets for all included projects (so you can make them over and over and over again)
    • Shipping is included
    • All for only $25 shipped!  And let me tell you, you will be getting lots of pieces for these fun projects

You just need some adhesive, glitter, and stamps as desired.  Due to Stampin’ Up! policy, I can’t prestamp any images for you but to help you out with that, if you get the kit and contact me to order any of the items not included in the kit, I will give you 10% off those items!  So, for example, you could get the stamp set and/or the chunky glitter at a discount!  I loved working on this project and I hope you do too!

  • More Holiday Stamp-a-Stack Cards

As promised, I have the last two cards we created at our Holiday Stamp-a-Stack  (you can see the details on the first two in my post from yesterday).

    Seasons Greetings

Like I said yesterday, these cards were meant to be fairly easy to make though I guess the hand cutting on this card is a bit more time intensive than the other cards we did.  I really liked how the holly looked cut out and hanging over the matting, but I’ll share a couple variations folks made that may be a bit faster to do for those of you less inclined to cut intricate images. 🙂

This card uses the Peaceful Seasons hostess set from the Holiday Mini.  It’s a very simple and straightforward layout and so you could really use it for any stamps or holiday.  In this case, we popped the Garden Green and Very Vanilla cardstock up on Stampin’ Dimensionals in the center of the Cherry Cobbler cardbase, over some Very Vanilla 5/8” grosgrain ribbon.  We also used markers to color in the holly image using Garden Green, Chocolate Chip, and Cherry Cobbler on Very Vanilla cardstock. Then we cut out the holly and adhered it straight down onto the corner of the matted image.  In my sample, I only put Snail adhesive in the middle of the holly so that the edges could curl up and add some dimension without needing an actual dimensional.

During one of the sessions, a couple folks decided to get a bit creative to avoid cutting out the holly.  So these are some options they came up with:

Yes, the globe ornament is cut out, but I think it is easier to cut than the holly.  Well, and the fact that she was really into doves and “Peace on Earth”

    Jolly Holiday Seasons Greetings

I swear, I always end up with way more ideas that I want to do for my classes and workshops than is practical.  So, I decided that I really wanted to let everyone play with the new Tags til Christmas set and the matching Ornament punch.  This stamp set is aimed directly at me because I love punches probably too much and oh my goodness when I see stamp sets that every stamp in the set matches a punch.

Plus, the stamp and punch are one of the Handmade Holiday bundles for 20% off!  I know, I’m a sucker for sales. 🙂  Anyway, back to the card:

This card is so fast and is still super cute in person.  Plus add some of the adhesive rhinestones to the ornament or a little glitter for even more kick!  However, for this quick version, we stamped the ornament image from Tags til Christmas in Cherry Cobbler and punched it out using the Ornament punch.  We adhered three patterns of the Jolly Holiday DSP to the bottom of the Old Olive cardbase and then added a piece of Soft Suede Cardstock that was punched with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch.  Finally we stamped the sentiment from the Curly Cute stamp set in Cherry Cobbler and then adhered the ornament image using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Want to make these cards? Join me on November 20th when I do this class again; or if you can’t make it, you can order the supplies though my online store or for an even easier and faster method, get the kit!

  • A little blog candy of my own

So, my dear friend Kally has been making cards with me for a while and then posting her creative genius on her personal blog. Recently she came up with the idea to do some blog candy – because really, who doesn’t like a give away? So, she is giving away 5 handmade cards that she and I will be making. To enter her blog candy, she asked folks to visit my site, pick their favorite card and then leave a comment on her site with the answer. Isn’t that sweet of her? Well, one of her great friends left me a comment and has inspired me to add on an additional blog candy!

The 5 card drawing will still be based off of her blog, but leave me a comment here with what your favorite type of creative project to make is and you’ll be entered in the bonus blog candy as well! Do you like cards? scrapbooking? 3D projects? something else?

So, what treat do I have in store for you? A small card kit! Thats right, I’ll send you the supplies and instructions to make a couple cards in the comfort of your own home. 🙂 I’ll randomly draw a winner monday,11/17 at 9am. Yes, you can win both so visit her site too!  Look forward to hearing from you!

  • Do it yourself card kit – Holiday edition

Ok, so in my last couple posts, I’ve shown a bunch of different designs 5 of which be the set we do at the Holiday Stamp-a-Stack this saturday (space still available, email me to join!).  I’ve also mentioned offering a card kit for those folks who can’t attend the workshop this weekend since I know lots of folks are busy or live further away.

After reviewing the cards we are doing at the workshop, I realized that one of the cards (the Seasons Greetings glittery trees) is a bit hard to do in a kit unless you have some specific supplies at home already.  So, I’m changing up a little the designs for the kit.  The following are the default cards for the DIY kit.  However, if you have a favorite card that isn’t in the set, just let me know and we can look at swapping it in.

Kit includes: precut paper, envelopes, accessories, and instructions.  Cost – $20 plus free shipping.
