  • Enjoy the Little Things Card with Botanical Gardens

So, by now you’ve heard (and probably seen) the retiring list from Stampin’ Up of which things are going to be discontinued at the end of May.  If you can believe it, some of the items have already started selling out!  Just so you know – you SU fans like me – here is what has sold out as of this morning:

    RETIRED ITEMS SOLD OUT ALREADY:
    Washi Label punch
    Trimmer replacement mat
    Cottage Greetings Kit
    Stack & Store Caddy
    In Color 12×12 cardstock (2014-16)
    Smoky Slate marker

But there are still lots of great items available and some are even discounted up to 50% off!  Score!  So, today I thought I’d share a card I made recently using a few of the items that will be saying goodbye at the end of next month.  It is a fun card using the Botanical Garden suite products and the fabulous Enjoy the Little Things stamp set.

This was my variation on a card I saw online by Darlene Boardman.  I loved the idea of die cutting out the fern-y leaves from the Botanical Builders thinlits and then using that negative space for the fern image.  So, I cut a strip of Mossy Meadow cardstock just a little bit wider than the die and 5 1/2” tall and cut out the 4 ferns.  (Save them for another project now that you’ve gone through the work to cut them out!)  And then I started by adhering a piece of Whisper White cardstock beneath the cut outs so you could see them clearly!

Pick your favorite pattern papers… I liked this yellow linen pattern and the colorful florals from the Botanical Gardens designer paper… and layer them together – all are the full 5 1/2” tall.  Depending on which papers you use, you get a totally different look!

Then we stamped the sentiment from the Enjoy the Little Things stamp set in Mossy Meadow and punched out with the 2” circle punch and gave it a Mossy Meadow mat using the 2 1/2” circle punch (SOB!  I can’t believe they are retiring my 2 1/2” circle punch!!)

Add a little bit of linen thread looping out behind the sentiment and pop-up on dimensionals and you are good to go!  Like I said, fun card… but sadly full of goodies that will be going away.  Here is the run down of what I used that is now found on the retiring list.

    Retiring Products:

How about a few Display Board ideas using Botanical Builder dies?

Well, on the plus side, the Botanical Builder thinlits will be carrying over into the new catalog.  So, yay for that!  Up on the display boards were a few projects using them.  Here are a couple I found in my pictures that I could grab quickly.

This first is an AMAZING scrapbook layout that Stacey Lane from my Fun n’ Crafty stampers created.  She made a TON of flowers and used some of the new In Colors – Flirty Flamingo and Peekaboo Peach to create them.  The end result is just stunning!

Or you can keep it sweet and simple!  Here is another fun card that uses the Work of Art stamp set and the “stamping off” technique to create a cool paint chip strip look.  You stamp the darkest color and then just keep stamping without re-inking your stamp to get a slightly lighter image each time.  Then they added one of the simple flowers from the Botanical Builders dies in white as a cute accent next to each sentiment (psst… new stamp sneak peek!)

So, I hope this gave you some fun ideas with the Botanical Builders die and a few of the retiring products headed for hills soon!  You can check out all of the retiring items and see which are on sale and which you might want to grab while supplies last!  And if your wishlist is $100 or more, consider upgrading your purchase to the Demonstator Starter Kit!  You’ll get to pick out $125 in product, while only paying $100.  Plus your have access right away to check out the upcoming annual catalog, purchase from it in May, and even better – you’ll become a part of my Fun n’ Crafty Stampers group.  A fun community of stampers who love to stamp, learn, create, and share!

  • Botanical Blooms Thank You Card

    Botanical Blooms Thank You Card

One of the really fun things about going to OnStage (the new name for Stampin’ Up convention and regional demonstrator events) is that we get to try out the newest products that are coming up and make some samples to use when we get home.  One of the products we got to try in November was the Botanical Blooms stamp set and matching dies.  We learned that the stamp set is designed to perfectly match the patterned paper (see the details on the leaves and flowers in the patterned paper?  yep, I STAMPED THEM!  How cool is that??!?)  And this is what we made at the event:

    image

Now that was a fun and all sample to see how the products all worked, but I just wasn’t inspired to turn it into a card as is.  See, it was this odd 4 1/4” height (same as a normal card) but only 5” wide (narrower than a normal card).  So I decided I had to cut things up and experiment a bit.  And ended up really liking the end result… what do you think?

So, what I ended up doing was cutting down the designer patterned paper and then layering it onto some Mossy Meadow cardstock (I’m sooooo going to miss this color when it retires later this month!!) and then put it all onto a Hello Honey card base.

The design was so busy, I wanted to keep my sentiment simple so I reached for the wooden Expressions Elements for a simple thanks and to make it easier to read, I just adhered a thin strip of Mossy Meadow cardstock behind the letters to make it super clear.

You can see from my imperfect stamping, show the detailing on the leaves is stamped on.  And the centers to many of the flowers.  It was kind of fun finishing out the paper design!  Then I just added a few rhinestones here and there for a little sparkle and we were good to go!

A Quick Note about the Botanical Blooms Bundle – You Get Extra in It!

I’ve had a couple people confused about the Botanical Blooms bundle… because they know that when you get a bundle you get 15% off the dies and stamp set.  But what they didn’t notice, is that in THIS SPECIFIC BUNDLE, you ALSO get the pack of designer paper too!
