  • Scrapbooking Sunday: Sunburst w/ Sunshine & Sprinkles

Look, it’s back!  It’s Scrapbooking Sunday!

I love, love, love making cards.  But boy did I miss making scrapbook pages.  I have photos piled up in my craft room and that is only the ones I’ve printed in the last year thinking I was going to be getting way more scrapbooking done than I did!  So, I decided to play along with a sketch challenge at ScrapbookSteals and um… I think I jumped back in at a challenging time.

We had to make a sunburst on our scrapbook page! I had never done that before and it was a challenge for me.  But I just LOVE how it turned out!

I used the Sunshine and Sprinkles designer paper because I liked the bright and cheery colors and how they matched so well with the summery colors and feel of the photo (that is my daughter Caitlin last summer in our new inflatable swimming pool.  Also one of my favorite pictures of her!)

The sketch called for buttons in your sun rays but as I was playing with my buttons I realized that my “x” buttons from the Bitty Buttons set looked kind of like stitches and I was sold.  Smile

And as I tried to figure out what I would use for a title for this page, I remembered the Vintage Verses stamp set (on of the Free exclusive sets from Sale-a-Bration) and thought the “There’s Only One You” was a perfect fit.  Combine that with the cool background shape from Everything Eleanor, and BAM! Title done!

You can also see in that picture the Melon Mambo striped organdy ribbon (which I’m way more in love with than I thought because it is so soft and vibrant!) and the Delicate Details lace tape which I thought would be a great subtle accent for the page.

Finally, I have to show you the last touch that I’m kind of proud of… the Baker’s Twine flower!  I made it myself!

I started with a glue dot on the page and a piece of Island Indigo Baker’s Twine.  Then I formed loops and with each loop, I ran the twine back over the glue dot in the center  (I had to add a second glue dot over the first to help hold it all down but it all worked out).  Then to finish off the center I had a Wisteria Wonder printed brad that I covered in Crystal Effects and dipped in Dazzling Diamonds glitter.  Let it dry and then set in the middle of my flower for a cute finishing touch!

I love how this page turned out and hopefully you got some fun ideas for incorporating into your own scrapbook pages.

  • A Rainbow Card for You

I was trying to come up with a card idea for my Crystal Effects technique class recently and wanted an example where we used Crystal Effects as a clear glue for clear buttons or embellishments.  So, I started playing with my Bitty Buttons and came up with this card:

I was drawn to the bright and cheery colors and was originally going to have the Bitty Buttons backed by the matching cardstock (or straight onto the colored cardstock) but then decided that a pop of white would be nice.

I love using Crystal Effects for adhering paper to my Bitty Buttons because it creates a perfectly clear glue that doesn’t leave shadows or dimension (like glue dots do) and is easy to wrangle and holds like crazy! 🙂

  • Two by Two–A Sweet Baby Card

I just had to share this card today because everytime I look at my stack of card swaps, I smile when I see it.  I have loved this Noah’s Ark stamp – Two by Two – since it showed up in the catalog this year and have been trying to be good and wait to order it but we will see how long I end up holding out. 🙂

I mean, look how cute the animals are all colored in?

    card designed by Linda Cary

If you heat emboss your stamped image first, it makes it easier to color in and separate the different colors.  Then you can just grab your ink pads and a blender pen; or your markers, and start letting your inner artist come out as you color and sponge away!  (This next picture tries to show you the embossing… can you see the shiny stuff? :))

Plus there are lots of little details to this card like the Fanfare embossing folder for the embossed Baja Breeze cardstock on the top half of the page, the stitched satin ribbon in the middle, the Itty Bitty Banners stamp and framelits to make the sentiment banner, and the fun bitty buttons for just an added touch in the top corner.

I have to say though, I really like the layered banners for the sentiment myself.  What is your favorite detail?

  • A Blast From the Past (plus Free Stamps too)

Yay! It’s the weekend and this weekend is a fun one for our family as we have relatives from Kansas out to visit for the first time since Caitlin was born. 🙂

Today we are taking the kids (and everyone else) on a ferry ride and heading to Bainbridge Island for a while.  I think Nicholas will love being on the boat and hopefully it will be more checking out the boats and scenery outside and less running around like a crazy person inside the ferry… but I could be dreaming!

Anyway, I finally got all of my retired items updated on my Stamps+ For Sale page and thought I would put together a special BOGO style sale for this next week in the hopes of clearing out the shelf space and giving everyone a great deal in the process!

Check out my Retired Items page for how to get your favs FREE!

In the meantime, I thought I would pull up some fun “blast from the past” cards that use some if the items I have listed.  Hope you enjoy!

  • Summer Smooches and Button Flowers

I seriously need to figure out how to take better pictures because I had a heck of a time getting a photo that shows just how bright and cheery this card is!  When you see the Summer Smooches designer paper in person, it just makes you smile and feel like summertime.  So, here is what it would look like if you were sitting in the shade on a sunny day. 😉

I was sharing this card with my team on our facebook group yesterday, and Pam made the comment about how I had introduced her to the idea of using the Ornament punch as a flower pot (if you hadn’t realized that… I used the Ornament punch to punch out some designer paper and then trimmed off the bottom to make it into a vase.)

Her comment got me thinking and I realized that I use this punch way more often as a vase than I do as an ornament!  How funny is that?

Anyway, I used the new Daffodil Delight seam binding ribbon and then decided to mirror the flowers in the designer paper by using the Itty Bitty Punch pack and Bitty buttons to make cute modern flowers for my vase.

Tip:  Punch out your paper using the small circle punch and then adhere it to your button by making a light coating of crystal effects on the button.  This gives you a super solid hold and it is uniformly clear when looking at the button.

I’ve tried glue dots in the past and you tend to see the shadow where the glue dot ends but the button still continues to be bigger than the glue dot.

Finally, I thought I would show you the card I created for this design while waiting for my Summer Smooches items to come in the mail.  This uses the same stuff, just Sweet Shop specialty designer paper and Crumb Cake seam binding ribbon.

Psst… don’t tell the Summer Smooches, but I think I like the Sweet Shop card better. 😉

But that is ok.  Just wait until tomorrow when I share a card I LOVE using the Summer Smooches paper.  Until then…

  • Bitty Button Friendship Card

I recently wanted to make a card for a stamping friend so I could show her the new, fabulous seam binding ribbon (seriously, I can’t get enough of this stuff right now – I love how it is delicate and soft like silk yet more opaque than organza.)  So, I put together this sweet and simple card for her.

The bow is not tied and instead the loops are held together by a rhinestone brad, which is then punched through the Crumb Cake cardstock.  Had I been thinking before I added the bow, I would have loved to use my Color Spritzer and added some splattering of Soft Suede ink to the Crumb Cake cardstock first, but I guess I’ll have to save that for next time.  So, instead I added some Bitty Buttons covering the matching shapes punched out of the Botanical Gazette designer series paper.

Tip: When you are using matching paper shapes with clear buttons, I find I get the best results by adding a light layer of Crystal Effects to the back of the button and then using that as the adhesive to stick the button to the paper.  You don’t need a lot of Crystal Effects, but you want just enough lightly cover the entire side of the button.  This gives you a perfectly clear adhesive with out those weird shadows you can get with glue dots or tapes and other adhesives.

This card was centered around the pretty Rose Red Seam Binding ribbon.  But I bet it would be great with the other 6 colors of Seam Binding ribbon.  Which color is your favorite?

  • Glittery Filled with Love Card

Last night was another fun card night with the gals of my meetup group.  We made three cards and I thought I would share today one of the cards we did.  I knew I wanted to showcase the Filled with Love set and the Bitty Buttons you can get free with the bundle and so I started brainstorming ideas for a layout.  Then I saw a card created by Robin Merriman and thought it would be perfect to start from.  I changed it up a bit so that I could use the super fun new glimmer paper and add in the cute heart bitty button, plus simplify some of the layers to make it a bit faster for the class setting.

I’ve had this stamp set for a while but have been so caught up with Christmas that I’ve been slow to start using it.  However, it is another stamp set that I am crossing my fingers will make it into the main catalog next year.  I love how versatile and modern it is!

    Tips for this Card –

When stamping the big hearts on the left side of the card, start by stamping the heart in the middle.  Then you can more easily control how much is cut off on the top and bottom hearts as well as feel like you have reasonably centered layouts of your heart and layered love.

Glue down all your layers before adding your heart Bitty Button.  It just makes it easier to get adhesive on your Love layers.

Adhere your heart Bitty Button with Crystal Effects.  This clear lacquer also makes for excellent glue that actually dries super clear so you don’t get adhesive outlines or wiggly layers like you might with glue dots or double sided tape.  You don’t need very much, just a thin coating on the back of your button

Oh, and the glimmer paper punches like a dream with your standard punches.

So if you haven’t heard, this stamp set is only available until January 24th as part of a special bundle

    So, what is all included?

    • Filled With Love stamp set (only available until this promotion ends)
    • Love Patterns designer series paper pack – 12 sheets of 12×12 double sided paper.  6 of the sheets are patterns in Real Red and 6 of the sheets are Pretty in Pink

  • A Blog Candy Thank You with Canvas Cuts

A few weeks back, the Royal Blog Tour kicked off with a huge number of blogs sharing some fantastic projects.  While I was browsing, I entered my name into a few blog candy drawings and much to my excitement, I actually won one!

The lovely Peggy Outen had some fabulous projects and sent me the Chit Chat rubons from the Occasion Mini that retired at the end of April.  Now, little did she know how much I LOVE rub-ons.  They are like clear stamps without the smudging.  I love that I can place them anywhere on the page, see exactly what it will look like before commiting it to paper, and then armed only with a popsicle stick, can get a perfect image in seconds flat.

So, I just have to say to her:

Yes, Peggy, you are the very best ever.  Thanks for being so generous and sending me the rub-ons.  I also had to use some of my goodies from the clearance rack.  So, the curly label punch out is the Canvas Cuts with the matching Fashion District rub-ons.  Using the Canvas Cuts has been a lot of fun and so much easier than I expected.

I was in such a groove, I had to make one more using the Canvas Cuts and the Chit Chat rub-ons for the sentiment.  This card introduces another super fun product – Bitty Buttons and the matching Itty Bitty Shapes punches.  I thought the little flower buttons and punches went great with the DSP, and they look sooo cute in person.  I think this may be my favorite Summer Mini catalog item.

    Best Ever Card:
Paper – Very Vanilla CS, Real Red CS, Merry Moments DSP
Accessories – Birds and Blooms Sizzlit, Fire Crystal Brads, Kiwi Kiss satin ribbon, Canvas Cuts, Fashion District rub-ons, Chat Room rub-ons, Stampin’ Dimensionals
