  • Who Knew a Canning Jar Stamp Could Be So Cute?!

I was putting together this month’s Cards to Go kits and knew I wanted to break out a bunch of my new goodies from the Holiday catalog and so I started mixing and matching things from my shelves.  Now, sometimes this random grab and go process ends in something that looks like one of my cats ate a bunch of craft supplies and then spit it up on my table… but thankfully this was not one of those times!  Ha ha!

Well, I started with the Canning Jar stamp from the Perfectly Preserved stamp set.  Ever since I first saw this stamp set, I totally loved it – I just didn’t know what I would do with it.  Well, how about this:

I think it is sweet!  Oh, and I have some totally fun ideas that I’m going to be putting together later this week to share too.  But anyway, back to this card. 🙂

I had the 7/8” Cotton ribbon and I just had to experiment with stamping on it.  I would say SUCCESS!  (Plus, you can’t see the part of the ribbon that I played with before the ink dried and thus totally smeared the ink around the ribbon surface… but lets just say, lesson learned.)  Oh, and did you notice the Core’dinations cardstock too?

So, there you go… my first and definitily not my last, Perfectly Preserved card sample.  I knew there was a reason I loved it!

Coming up in tomorrow’s post:  I just had to share a scrapbook layout I created today along with what happens when your 2.5 yr old is unattended in your craft room and they discover the marker you used to journal in said scrapbook page!

    But until then….

  • Time For the New Summer Smooches Suite

For the first time in a long time, I didn’t preorder the sneak peek products – the Summer Smooches Suite.  I know, I know… if you get the perk as a demonstrator to get to see and order them early, why wouldn’t you?  I guess I was indecisive about what I wanted but I knew I loved the Fabric Brads (even though they will only be available in April) and the bright colors of the Summer Smooches designer paper have been calling to me since seeing them.  And finally, my shipment showed up yesterday and so this is one of the first cards I made:

I’ve been wanting to try out this idea of a “peek-a-boo” designer paper and after being inspired by a card on Stampin’ Connection (the online demonstrator community) I started creating and the card kept evolving.  For this style of card, you punch a shape out of your top layer of paper and then layer a different color or print behind the holes.  I love how the fabric brad matches the print of the designer paper and the neutral-ness of the Crumb Cake cardstock lets the Tangerine Tango color really stand out.

One fun thing I did was to punch the flower with the Fancy Flower punch and then I cut between the petals about halfway towards the center of the flower so I could curl up the petals.

Now since I was working on this card for my Cards to Go kit for April as well as a local class, I wanted to make sure I had the design figured out so that as soon as my package arrived with the Smooches stuff, I could cut the right sizes of paper and be ready to go.  So, I ran my first experiment using the Sweet Shop Specialty designer paper from the Occassions mini and the retired Sweet Stitches fabric brads.

I think I love fabric brads… I’m just bummed they are only here for April and won’t be returning when the new catalog arrives in June.  So if you love them too, make sure you order soon!

  • A Sponged Easter Egg Card

Happy Easter weekend everyone!  I hope you have sunshine and wonderful events planned with family and friends this holiday weekend.  Today we are getting ready to go out for egg hunts and coloring some eggs at home with family.  But before we head out, I wanted to share the first eggs I colored this year…. for a card. 🙂

I had this idea to use sponging to create eggs for my card and so I grabbed my handy dandy Extra-Large Oval Punch.  Then I punched out an oval on scrap paper and pulled a pile of ink pads and sponges and got to work masking my Easter Eggs.  Of course, I made the eggs on a piece of scrap white paper and then had to design the card around the colored eggs. 🙂  But I added some paper for grass and then threw on some Early Espresso baker’s twine and the adorable Twitterpated buttons.

So, consider this my Easter card to you. 🙂  Have a great weekend!

  • Mixed Bunch: From Scrapbook Sketch to a Card

Last weekend, I did a presentation at the Northwest Women’s Show that was based around the idea that you can take one of the many scrapbook sketches out there and use them even if you are not a scrapbooker.  I don’t know about you, but while I like designing cards, sometimes my brain just isn’t working and so it is so nice to have a sketch or design to borrow from.  Often I will use the Stampin’ Up! idea book and catalog and just tweak a card that they use as a sample, but sometimes a scrapbook sketch is perfect!  As in this case:

Mixed Bunch card from scrapbook sketch

I cased a scrapbook layout made by a friend and mixed it up using my Stampin’ Up! supplies (I posted about it recently) and so I took the same elements of the scrapbook page and just shrunk them down a lot to make them fit on a card.

One of my favorite elements of the original scrapbook page was the color blocked row along the bottom of the layout.  In my version of the scrapbook page, I had taken pieces of cardstock and ran them through my Big Shot with an embossing folder to give them texture; so I did the same thing with my card…only much smaller.

I also kept the Crumb Cake strip to separate the color blocking from the bottom of the card and the white background.  Then I added in the baker’s twine to keep going with my texture theme.  Now, with a card, I didn’t really have room for both a picture (or stamped image) and the flower, so I decided to keep the flower since I’m totally digging this Mixed Bunch stamp set right now.  And then I stamped my sentiment in the same color (Rich Razzleberry) as my title on my scrapbook page.

Overall, I love how this card turned out and that I didn’t have to think too hard since I was just copying another design of a scrapbook layout!

So, here is the challenge for you – take a scrapbook page that you found somewhere and turn it into a card!  Post a link here in the comments of my blog or on my facebook page.  I’d love to see what you come up with.

  • Scrapbooking Sunday: Mixed Bunch Color-blocked Page

So, this is my last weekend to prep before the big Northwest Women’s Show here in Seattle.  I’m grateful to have the opportunity to present a crafting demonstration on their Home Style stage on each of the 3 days; so I’ve been trying to square away exactly what I’m going to demo.  Well, this is one of the projects I’m planning on showing on Sunday (please forgive the awful photo):

I saw a layout by a crafty friend of mine named Brettaney Q, who is a super talented scrapbooker, and was inspired to scraplift from it for the show this coming weekend.  She was so nice to give me permission and I love how my version turned out thanks to her inspiration.

I changed things up because I was using all Stampin’ Up! supplies and it was fun to get to pull out and play with all my tools!

This layout ended up being all about texture as I cut my strips for the color-blocked bottom of the layout and ran them through my Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.  And on the top half of the layout I stamped with the Mixed Bunch stamp set with Versamark and embossed using clear embossing powder.  I added some Wisteria Wonder bakers twine along the middle which softens it all a bit.  And then I played with my Mixed Bunch stamp set and the matching Blossom punch to make the flower next to my photo.

Oh, and the last thing I did was add a simple title to my page.  I again reached for my Big Shot and grabbed my Timeless Type alphabet sizzlets, and cut it out of Rich Razzleberry cardstock.

I love how it turned out and I hope the visitors to the Women’s show enjoy it too!  I’ll be showing them this project on Sunday along with a matching card using the same layout for those of you who aren’t scrapbookers. 🙂
If you’d like to come visit me at the show – I’ll be presenting at the following times:

    • Friday 3/2 at 3:30pm on the Home Style Stage
    • Saturday 3/3 at 3:00pm on the Home Style Stage
    • Sunday 3/4 at 11:30am on the Home Style Stage

I’ll be demo’ing for about 30 minutes and have a display table next to the stage with more samples, information, and of course a show special!  I still have a lot to do but I think the show will be a lot of fun.  Hope you can come say hello if you are local!

  • Scrapbooking Sunday & A Superbowl Special!!

As I mentioned last week, I’ve been getting back into scrapbooking recently and so I’m hoping to be able to share with you some ideas for how to use your different Stampin’ Up! supplies to make some fun layouts.  So, today is week 2 of Scrapbooking Sunday and stick around to the bottom of the post for my Superbowl Special!

But first, can I share with you some photos of my littlest stamper? Smile

This layout was based on a sketch by my friend Charity Becker.  I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of collaging photos into one single block before, but I love the look.  And it was perfect for me to put together those multiple “sleeping baby” pictures from when we were still in the hospital after Caitlin was born.  Plus it was the perfect opportunity for me to pull out the Love Impressions specialty paper I scored from the Clearance Rack!

Since the sketch itself was pretty simple, I had fun pulling out some of my new toys and adding some fun touches.  First up…. Framelits labels!

Since you get 6 different sizes of the same shape, I could make 3 different sized but coordinating labels for the bubble border at the top of my pictures.  Plus, I LOVE the fact that you can see what exactly you are cutting out with your framelit and so I could center the grey “LOVE” where I wanted when I went to cut it out.  And just to keep it fun, I used my embossing folders on two of the labels.

And then to balance the bottom of my pictures, I ran a row of the Blushing Bride pleated ribbon.  I really don’t think I can get enough of this ribbon! Color in the XOXO from the designer paper with my waterbrush for a subtitle.  And then one of my favorite touches – I pierced holes at the corners of my photo frame and ran Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine to make a subtle outline of my centerpiece.  It was so easy and really made a bigger impact than I expected for such a small amount of material.

Do you love this stuff as much I do?  So much fun to use!  Ready for a special to help you add these to your stash for a deal?

  • Two Days Left of the Summer Mini and DSP Sale!

It seems like summer is just getting started but after looking at the calendar apparently September is almost here! Smile  So, while I guess that is cool because that means back to school, fun fall events are coming soon, and the new Holiday Mini is about to be released.  But…. That also means that there are only 2 more days to get your favorites from the summer mini or to take advantage of the buy 3 get 1 free promotion!

Click either picture below to get more details.

You can also check everything out in the online store here

I also thought I’d share a card I made using one of my favorite sets from the Summer Mini – Happy Greetings and the super fun bakers twine

You may remember that I had made this same card using the Strength and Hope stamp set back in July but I was wanted to use up some of the extra supplies I had from that card and so I changed it up to use the butterfly punch, some designer paper, and stamps.  I also adhered the butterflies using glue dots only in the center of the butterflies so that I could bend the wings out to make them look like they were flying off the page.

  • It’s All in The Details

Well, my adventures in California are coming to a close and I’m about to get back on the road to head back to Washington.  Its been a great chance to visit with friends, family, and my Stampin’ pals.  Thankfully, my nephew’s surgery went great and he seems to be recovering well (enough so that he was discharged on Monday after having a major 5 hr surgery on Thursday!)  So, its been a great trip.

Plus, while I was down here, I had a chance to participate in a class held by my downline, Bethani Semple  Let me tell you, her cards were great!  I’m so glad I had a chance to do them and try out some new stuff!  I’m still working on uploading the photos I took of the cards I made (I’ll share my faves on facebook when I’m done), but I wanted to share her swap from this years convention..

    card designed by Bethani Semple

I love all the details in her card – from the inking of the embossed image on the Night of Navy piece – to the sponging and collaged images and rhinestone in the center.  Just goes to show that you don’t have to go over the top but just the right little details make a huge impact!
