  • Group Project Creations from our Team Iron Stamper Challenge!

Group Project Creations from our Team Iron Stamper Challenge!

*** Reminder – Tomorrow (June 1, 2014) is the LAST DAY to order from the Occasions Catalog!  So make sure you’ve gotten your favorites before their gone by shopping online now. ***

I have been so excited to watch my Fun n’ Crafty team grow and so I’ve been wanting to start doing more to try to provide opportunities for everyone to get together, learn from each other, and have fun stamping together.  So, I’ve started working on roughly quarterly group events I’m calling Stamp  & Shares.  This last time, I wanted to have some kind of game for everyone to play.  So, I came up with the idea of an “Iron Stamper” challenge for us to do early in the afternoon.  The idea was that everyone would be broken up into teams and we would have to work as a group to create projects using predefined supplies.  No one knew what the supplies would be ahead of time, so it was fun for everyone to brainstorm and create together on the fly!

The supplies they all had to work from were:

They couldn’t use any other supplies than what was provided in the box and the only had 40 minutes as a group to design and create 2 projects using what was in their box.  I have to say, I was so impressed with the creativity that came out in that short amount of time!

    Check out what they created:

Team 1 – Liz Mitchell, Kathy Thisted, and Rose Bryson

First they created a card.  And I love how they came up with using one of the petals from the Pansy punch to make a heart!  Way to work with what you have!  Plus I thought it was such a great idea to add Washi tape to the bottom of a piece of cardstock and THEN punch with the scallop punch.  Aren’t they clever?

At the last minute, they realized the instructions for the challenge was to create 2 projects, so they pulled together this box very quickly:

I loved how they stamped and punched the Flower Shop image and then punched out a piece of the Gold Foil vellum and used it as a punched overlay too.

Team 2 – Tanya Cabral, Annie Lee, Jennifer Blomquist

This group stuck more to cards but really got into the vellum paper.  And Tanya came up with the fun idea of stamping directly on the vellum for a central layer:

For the second card, I thought it was cool how Annie came up with the layers of scallop edge punched designer paper on the left side… like a little layer of ruffles!  Then the combination of stamping under the vellum and adhering stamped images over the vellum.

You can kind of see that the Petite Petals images and the Flower Shop punched flower are BELOW the vellum, and one of the punched out petite petal flowers is ON TOP of the Vellum.

It was a great afternoon and I’m working on our next group demo event!  It is looking like I may hold it off until July so I can run it right after convention and share all the projects and details I learned at convention with everyone!  If you would like to be on the email list for more details for when the event is announced and registration opens, let me know at jennifer@nwstamper.com and I’ll make sure you are kept in the know!

  • Sale-a-Bration countdown with Scallop Tag Punch Boxes

Ok, after spending almost an hour fighting with my computer on formatting of this blog post, I’m just giving up and I hope you don’t mind if it scrolls a little long! 🙂 I’m starting the Sale-a-Bration countdown today and so I’ll be spending the next 4 days sharing Sale-a-Bration projects, and I just know I will have a bunch to share, so I figured I’ll post a few each day to fill you up with ideas! scallop tag punch boxes Last weekend was my first ever Stamp & Share for my group of Fun n’ Crafty demonstrators.  I am so grateful for these ladies and I wanted to make sure I was helping created events and opportunities for everyone to get to know each other, stamp together, and share ideas.  So, I put together an afternoon of stamping fun and business tips.  It was a huge success and I can’t wait to start planning the next one as I’d love to hold these each quarter! This time, I had some great presenters who shared some tips and tricks for some of our tools – specifically the Scallop Tag punch and the Thinlit flip dies.  Kathy Thisted (below) shared on the Scallop Tag punch. She had a TON of good ideas and tips but I’ll share the one that was new and exciting to me!  The idea that you can punch paper that is larger than 2”! I know, that shouldn’t be as mind blowing to me as it is, but I thought you could only punch paper that was 2” or less; but she showed how you can make borders, cut box flaps, and more with larger paper.  The big trick though to making sure you have the scallop edge where you want is to mark the front of your punch with a piece of paper or post-it showing where the edges of the tag opening are.  That way, you can align your score lines or markings on your paper so that the scallop tag end is exactly where you want it! Then she shared a bunch of great boxes including this one – all using some great Sale-a-Bration items including the Sweet Sorbet paper, See Ya Later stamp set, Banner punch, Sweet Sorbet accessories, and the Heartfelt Banner kit :

It is a simple 2” strip of cardstock that has been folded in half to make your basic bag shape.  Then add small strips of cardstock to the sides (adhering to the inside of your tag) to make the walls to keep your goodies from falling out the sides!  (side note – aren’t those little banners stinkin’ cute sticking out from behind the label framelit cut out?) Next was another box she made, only this time she took two of the flaps and cut the ends using the scallop tag punch.  The opposite flaps were trimmed and decorated.  But the scallop top makes for a cute decorative touch and a great place for a ribbon to tie your box closed.

Oh!  I totally forgot to point out the coolest part!  See that canvas banner on the side of the box?  Guess where it is from?  And no, she did not hand cut it! Give up?  It is from the Heartfelt Banner kit!!  How clever to cut up the banner kit into cute pieces to use in other projects.  Love that multi-purpose functionality. I just LOVED this third box though.

Another tall box with the scallop tag punch… but my favorite touches?

    1. The belly band with the huge flower using the Blossom Punch
    2. Tying the Sweet Sorbet twine through the top and anchoring it with a Vintage Faceted button!  Those buttons are really pretty but I never know what to do with them.  Looks like this is a really good answer! Smile

So, hopefully you saw some fun ideas and inspiration here.  Have a question about one of the boxes?  Leave me a comment or shoot me an email at jennifer@nwstamper.com and I’ll see if I can get the details for you!

Don’t forget, everything you see here that is from Sale-a-Bration is going away after Monday March 31stSo take advantage of the last 4 days of Sale-a-Bration

  • Getting Ready for a Card Bonanza!

I stayed up last night to start sorting out my card kits for my upcoming Card Bonanza this weekend.  On Saturday, I’m hosting the event at my house and it is an All-You-Can-Stamp crafting event!

I was shocked to discover that I have over 130 card kits ready to go based on over 50 card designs!  See, this event is what I do to use up all my extra card kits left over from my technique nights, card classes, swaps, and events.  I deeply discount the kits and invite everyone over to make as many cards as they want.

    Here is the scoop:

    • Come and stamp for only $1.50/card
    • Come and stamp as many cards as you want for $10  (you just have to let me know when you get started)
    • Pick up a premade card with envelope from my big stash for only $2

    Can’t attend in person?

    • Get a set of 5 card kits for $11 mailed to you to make at home
(note – due to Stampin’ Up policy, kits will not include stamped images, but they will include all paper and accessories precut and portioned)

Either way, that is WAY LESS than Hallmark for some really fun and cute cards!

Here is a small sample of some of the cards available to make:

    Fun, right?!

So, check your calendar and if you are free this Saturday (2/22) between 1pm- 5pm, let me know and plan on coming over for this fun event!  RSVP here

Can’t attend in person but would love some kits?  Email me at jennifer@nwstamper.com or order here and I’ll get you hooked up with some cute card kits!

Card Kit Grab Bag – 5 card kits shipped w/in the US for ONLY $11!

Now I’m off to finish pulling all the supplies needed for all the different cards – that is going to take me a while! But it will be fun and I can’t wait to see everyone creating on Saturday.

  • You Did It! Winning Craft Wars: Paper Pumpkin Card

If you were reading my recap of Leadership, I mentioned a fun activity they ran over the course of the conference.  They called it “Craft Wars: Paper Pumpkin”!  Now, I’ll admit, I haven’t ever watched Craft Wars but I get the general idea (or at least have a guess).

You have a pile of miscellaneous crafting supplies.
You have a project goal to create.
    Make something cool.
    GO!

And that is pretty much how this worked.  They had all of the stamps from the My Paper Pumpkin kits since March in bags in the center of the tables.  You had access to:

      – Whisper White or Crumb Cake card bases
    – about 6 colors of ink and markers
    – designer paper from the Occasions Catalog (wanna see what we had to work with?)
    – gold or silver bakers twine (maybe white too)
    Essentials Wooden Elements
    – and um… a couple punches and dimensionals.

So there was a lot to work from, but you were limited to what was on hand… oh, and did I mention NO cardstock except the cardbases… so we started hacking up extra Whisper White cardbases to get extra cardstock for stamping and cutting.

I started by looking at the stamps to see what inspired me.  In this case, the “Wahoo” and “You Did It” stamps from September 2013 Kit (the sad part, I never actually put together my kit and wasn’t sure what I thought of the stamps at first.  Um, super fun it turns out!) along with the word bubble stamp from the December 2013 Kit.  Then I grabbed a few more stamps that seem like they could be interesting accents to the card and walked through the rows of paper and see if anything fits the style of the stamps and the completely fuzzy idea of what I should be making.  Turns out I was grabbed by the Bermuda Bay polka dot patterned paper from the Kaleidoscope designer paper.2014-01-10 12.42.15

Then I started stamping, cutting and layering the elements.  And really I still had no idea how exactly it was going to ultimately come together!2014-01-10 12.55.05

When I’m in a crunch, I’m a “glue-as-I-go” girl and so I started gluing things down which mostly works, until you decide you want to wrap baker’s twine around some paper that you already glued down.  ; )

But “thankfully” I had gotten an ink smudge on the front of my card after I had only glued a few pieces of paper down, so I could pull them up, wrap my twine, and then glue everything back down on a new card base.

In the end, this is what I came up with:

Paper Pumpkin Craft Wars wahoo card

This is a bit of a departure from my typical card style, but I LOVE IT!  I’ll be honest, this is completely inspired by a style of scrapbooking I love… so, see – scrapbooking can be a great crossover into card making.

Well, I took this picture kind of quick and didn’t try to hard to make it super nice because I figured I’d be picking up my card the next day and taking it home where I could photograph it all nice and pretty.

But to my happy surprise – IT WASN’T IN THE BOX!  Which turned out to mean, I was one of the 20 cards picked as winners of the Craft Wars competition.  Yay!  There were a ton of super great cards that I saw people creating so I’m glad someone on the judging panel liked my non-traditional layout.

You know, I’m thinking I may have to host my own Craft Wars: Paper Pumpkin edition!

    Who is in!?

    Yeah, I like that idea.

Ok, so start checking out your Paper Pumpkin kits and start brainstorming cute card ideas!

  • Quatrefancy Window Sheets for Scrapbooking

Stylin Stampin Inkspiratin DT badgeOk, so I know I promised to share some projects with the Christmas Star single stamp today… but that was before I remembered that today was the Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration’s scrapbook sketch for the month!  I love playing along with sketches and I don’t scrapbook nearly enough…. so design team duties came first today.  But, I do have my Christmas Star projects and post ready for you… it is just moved to Wednesday now.  I promise this time. Smile

But, I still have a fun project to share today!  The amazing Jennifer Campbell put together a great sketch this month and I love it because it was so easy to put together an interesting layout with it.  In fact, this page came together from looking at the sketch to done in less than an hour!!

    September Scrapbook Sketch Layout

September 2013 SSI scrapbook sketch layout

I have a stash of photos that I know I want to scrap that I got printed at Costco a couple months ago, and so I grabbed the pile and started flipping through until I found the perfect photos I wanted to scrap.

It was so special to me this year at convention that I had a group of downline who were able to attend with me and share the awesome experience.  And it was so fun to have some friends to cheer with, lounge with, or just share ideas we saw or heard around the convention center.  I really am lucky to be able to call these gals my friends!

Once I found the pictures and looked at the sketch, I knew I wanted to recreate the group bag tag for my main embellishment.  I used the Fun Flower die to create the same shape, added the Fancy Flower punch, and then a 1-1/4” circle punch out of designer paper.  Then, instead of our group name, I used the Banner Greetings hostess set to create my sentiment and as a throwback to the banner shape in the original sketch.

My other fun variation was to use the Quatrefancy window sheet that comes with the Quatrefancy Specialty designer series paper.  This is one of those papers that often you look at and think,” how in the heck am I going to use this?”  Well, I loved the subtle pattern effect it gave and thought it would be a great accent to pull out the pattern from the Convention backpack we received this year.  Since the pattern was the same, it was a great way to tie together the photos, designer series paper (from the same pack) and the background paper.

Using window sheet papers this way is great because it is EASY to figure out adhesive.  If nothing else, you have a HUGE piece of cardstock (from your photo mat) that will be covering up parts of the window sheet strip, and so you can happily put adhesive in that area.  And in this case, I decided to layer some Pear Pizzazz taffeta ribbon over the top, and so I could also run a strip of adhesive across the window sheet to glue it to the base cardstock and then just adhere the ribbon over the top of the window sheet to hide the glue.  Sneaky, huh?!

So, there you go.  A fun, easy sketch and some ideas to get you started.  If you want to play along and try it out yourself, you can use the sketch above and then hop on over to the Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration blog to add your finished photo to the Linky there.  Or just visit to see other great takes on the basic sketch.  Have fun!

  • One Last Look at Leadership

Well, Leadership is over and I survived my 2am wakeup call to get me to the airport for my cross-country 6am flight.  (Eek! that was early!) But before I completely crash for the night, I wanted to share some of my favorite things from the event.

It starts with the little things – like getting plated lunches each day! Spoiled!

    IMG_1909

I didn’t know we got something other than a box lunch, so it was a fun surprise. Smile  And all the awesome free product and giveaways too!

But that doesn’t hold a candle to the sharing that went on over 2 days.  I’m not kidding when I say that my brain got FULL and I was glad for dinner breaks starting at around 4:30.

There were awesome presentations by Stampin’ Up! staff and other demonstrators ranging from class and stamping ideas to how to be better organized and how to use a business plan to become more profitable!

    IMAG1624

And of course, lots of swapping and A-MA-ZING presentations on the main stage!

    IMAG1634IMAG1599IMAG1647

PSST – this is a cute idea for using the new Best Of stamp set that is available for January!

I even found it was really cool to get some frank conversations and state of the company presentations from the executive team at Stampin’ Up!

    IMAG1653_BURST003

But I think the BEST thing of going to these events, is the friends I see (or meet in person for the first time after chatting online with them for ages) while I’m there.  People from across the continent that I would never get a chance to see if not for this event!

    IMAG1595IMAG1623

People like Gail from Canada (BasketballMom for those of you on SCS); and Ronda Wade!

So, if you haven’t been to a SU event before, all I have to say is… what are you waiting for? Smile  Check out the Regionals schedule for events near you (I have them posted on my FB page) or head out to Salt Lake City for Convention!  I’ll be there in July and would love to have you come share it with me!!

    IMAG1657_BURST001

(me & my mom – fun fact: I have been to 4 conventions, 3 regionals, and 1 leadership event; and my mom has joined me for each of those events!)

I have LOTS MORE PHOTOS up on my Facebook Page including display boards, so if you are interested in that you should come check it out!
